When we travel down to North Carolina, this is a must stop for us. We had stopped here several years ago on the way back home to Pennsylvania and we absolutely loved it. My opinion is this has been in business for many years. It's a local institution. Our server was simply amazing, the best in southern hospitality, and we sincerely appreciate that . We arrive a little bit after 11 o'clock when I stopped serving breakfast, but she was kind enough to check with a cook and they made us a breakfast, which is absolutely outstanding . I order two of the hobo sandwiches one on a biscuit and one on toast and they are off the wall full of flavor in the biscuit is one of the best biscuits we had . You get an extremely nice serving of bacon, freshly prepared and the home fries are just like grandma used to make absolutely full of flavor . There are a lot of people coming and going for lunch. All of the food looks amazing. Everything is freshly prepared and served hot and don't forget about the sweet tea. Absolutely perfect. If we can get this place a 10 star review, we would in a heartbeat and we highly recommend if you're traveling on 95 north or south stop here and enjoy a breakfast or in early lunch and get back on the highway. You will not be disappointed whatsoever. The inside is very clean, plenty of table seating and the service is perfect . This restaurant is very affordable for one individual or a family of six and you cannot be home cooked southern food .

I would defintely eat here again. Here's the scoop... it's a diner. Super casual. No prices on the menu. The lunch was $10 for a sandwich, fries and drink. The burgers were legit real burger. Not huge but decent enough. Get two if you're really hungry. The chicken sandwich was a white meat chicken breast with a very good breading on it. The onion rings were great. Fries are basic crinkle cut. The sweet tea was really good! Our waiter was super friendly and on top of every refill. I forgot his name but he was great!! Fridays they have seafood. From what I could tell the fish was very good. They make a homemade soup that someone said was very delicious. It wasn't far from the thruway entrance. We would stop again on a trip off of route 95.

This is the second time that we stopped at Smith's restaurant on our way to Raeford, North Carolina. We absolutely love it here. The food is amazing, the service is always so friendly, our waitress was just the nicest person very accommodating. They had just ended breakfast, which we did not know, and she asked the owner if she could quickly get our breakfast order in and they went ahead and did that for us. So nice of them! I can't say enough about their biscuits, they are absolutely delicious and boy did I get a generous amount of bacon on my platter. My husband loved his hobo sandwiches. It is a very nice atmosphere, very relaxed. And again, everybody is just so nice and you just feel so comfortable. This is always a stop for us when we are headed to see family in Raeford, North Carolina.

If you come near Nash county you have to stop here. It's down home southern food (my favorite) the staff is always pleasant but be prepared to wait a few mins during lunch rush or for breakfast. Trust me....you want to wait. The HOBO biscuit for breakfast or the tenderloin and gravy with hoop cheese would be my recommendations if you stop for breakfast! And you can never go wrong with brightleaf hotdogs and fries for lunch Stop Nextdoor at the Smiths grocery store while you are there! They have a great variety of candies and jarred goods. Salsa, relish, pickled veggies......all of it.

Smith's Red & White Restaurant is a traditional country breakfast/lunch restaurant that opened in Rocky Mount, North Carolina in 2010. It was founded by father and son Bruce and Derrick Smith. The restaurant is actually an extension of Smith's Red & White: an independent grocery store that was founded by Bruce's father Sherwood Smith in 1954. The elder Smith began his grocery business in the corner of a fertilizer & feed store that was located inside the old Dortches School House. 10 years later, he moved the business to a new cinderblock building and expanded to include general merchandise, gas and pork processing. Smith's Red & White became a full-fledged grocery store by 1974 and had several more renovations and expansions over the following decades. The business became well-known for their quality meats. After another remodeling of the store in 2010, the restaurant was added on and opened next door. All of the items on the restaurant menu feature products from the grocery store which include Smith's BBQ, country ham, country link and patty cake sausages. My family and I recently visited Smith's Red & White Restaurant while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We had been driving since very early in the morning and were getting hungry for breakfast while we were passing through North Carolina. My wife heard about the restaurant, which was located right off of the highway. The place was packed with locals when we arrived and we could smell the delicious aroma of freshly cooked pork sausages. After looking over the menu, I ordered the American Omelet with Sausage, Grits and a Cheese Biscuit and my wife ordered the Garden Omelet with Cheesy Grits and a Cheese Biscuit. Everything was very fresh tasting; I loved the sausage! There's nothing particularly fancy about Smith's Red & White Restaurant. It's just good old-fashioned southern home cooking made with quality ingredients. Overall, we were very happy with our experience. The place has a lovely small town charm to it and the staff were very friendly. We give Smith's our seal of approval!

It is not fancy, but once you try something it is different. This is American Cooking but with a style that is special. See what awaits. When we went in I had worked up at the Rocky Point Markets for furniture both in the spring and the fall of each year. It was always filled with folks from everywhere to shop, and see and buy for the next season. There were plenty of places to have lunch. But when dinner came it was special. The local style of cooking was different. It might have the same meal as you would find in another region, but here it was different as it is based on the cook / chef. Tonight we stopped in and the person helping us was very special. She told us of what was available and what was not. She gave the details and let us order. First we had to have an Arnold Palmer. Naturally, it was different than the person down the block. This was not sweet as usually. It was an equal mike and perfect to have. It gave us something to think about. First up was the Mac & Cheese. But unlike normal Mac & Cheese, with this we ordered shrimp. Not what you expect, this was unique. The Mac & Cheese was a combination of fresh pasta and mixed with four different types of cheese. It was mixed together with a cream and butter. It was not a firm mix but a mix that was moist and tasty with each bit you took. That alone was a meal unto itself. Being mixed with shrimp was different. The shrimp where not small. They were a good size. And there was almost a dozen mixed in. They were not placed onto. Being mixed in they aded to the flavor and taste. There was no spices. Just fresh shrimp with pasta and a cheese mix. A dip of bread helped to take it all in. Next we did have Baby Back Ribs. These were very fresh and tasty. Cooked to the right point hthey literally fell off the bone itself with the touch of a fork. The taste was slightly mixed with honey. Sweet but spicy. Naturally had to have some home made coleslaw with this. Plus an order of sweet potato fries. And these were fresh. Alone with a drink these would have been a good snack to have together. I could have had another plate of these alone. The two dishes were perfect. Yet, we did need to have dessert when the couple at the next table ordered it and shared it. This was Bread Pudding, topped with vanilla ice cream and served with Bourbon sauce. This was heaven itself. You did not need more. There people could have shared this one item. Again, it was freshly made and warm. Ideal. The ice cream was made that morning. And, as for the bourbon, you could have had a glass of this. Spread over the bread pudding it was how we sometime drink an Irish Coffee. Had to have that taste with each bite. Overall, this was a special place to for a meal. It was truly unique for the region and for the chef. The team was a great help. The price was great. As for the people who were there, it was packed. Many came from the places where they are creating the new furniture and items that will be on display for the next market in Rocky Point for next spring. They knew where the place is and what to order. It is truly the right spot for a good meal. It is worth the visit next time I am in town.

There are places to sit, including a cool old school rocking chair, while you wait for your food to come out. All items are made to order here, so you will have to wait a bit but it is worth the wait. For breakfast my favorite is the wagon train sandwich. This is double bacon, fried egg, and pimento spread on a Kaiser roll. Killer flavor combo and be sure to get a side order of hash browns extra crispy to go along with it. The homemade biscuits here are similarly a must try. This place closes at 2 each day, so keep this in mind if you are after some lunch.
