I wanted to like this place before I walked in. I heard some good things, so your experience may differ. For me, it was not as good an experience. I like my BBQ eastern style, as in chopped with a vinegar type sauce. This was more western NC style, as in pulled, with a tomato type sauce. Frankly, I wasn't thrilled with the food quality, the slaw was decent, but the hushpuppies weren't so great and my partners brisket wasn't good to me, and I lived in Texas and have had all types of brisket. Also, I didn't like the payment machine being set up for tips when you order from the counter, they bring you the food but they don't apparently have fountain drinks so you pay for bottled water the same price as bottled soda. They had tea but it seemed too pricey. And really, the interior was just like a roadside BBQ place, chairs, no booths,, so I guess most of their business is carry out or delivery. I just felt underwhelmed by my experience here, I will probably try it again sometime and if so I'll update this then. read more

Pretty good for small town bbq! Their pulled pork sandwich was reallly juicy and flavorful - got slaw on top and it was delicious. Their brisket sandwich was less good in my opinion - a bit tough and dry. For sides I shared sweet potato fries and fried okra - both were good but the fried okra dipped in ranch was tasty asf! They only offer one table side bbq sauce which was a sweet vinegar based sauce that I really enjoyed. Food came out quickly. Definitely recommend! Stopped in for dinner. We are from out of state and wanted some local southern BBQ. We got the ribs and a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on top. Both were tasty. The pulled pork was flavored nicely, tender, and enjoyable. I also liked their BBQ sauce. The side of Mac and cheese was sprinkled with seasoning. ORDERED: 1/2 rack of Saint Louis cut pork ribs. $13.49 Came with 1 side (baked beans) and a small corn bread. Ribs came out of a warmer and were dry and small. Also, NOT HOT but just warm. Beans were OK. Iced Tea (serve your self) $2.10 with refills. I wanted to try their brisket. Got 1/2lb to go $11.50 They said it was CHOPPED but it was cut into CUBES. BBQ is very average. Service is sub par. I've been to Embers about 5 times over the last year. The BBQ is okay, if you want a quick fix. The ribs are consistently dry, and the brisket is always served cubed with BBQ sauce mixed in. Not the traditional slices, so it's hard to tell the actually quality of the meat. Pulled pork is good. The establishment is very clean. I wanted to give it a 3 star because that would be fair, however, the service needs work. Regardless of who has been at the counter, it appears that they are being inconvenienced by taking your order. I've barely had so much as a thank you. A lot of restaurants downtown are hyped up because of their location. This is one of them. I truly hope they do better because there aren't many BBQ establishments close by. read more

I'm pretty pleased with this small BBQ outfit. They serve pulled chicken that's WAY better than Stamey's (it had FLAVOR!) and the sides are served with ample portions. A platter is a good value (one fat side plus a nice lil' corn muffin) for $11.49. My daughter enjoyed her cheeseburger and my wife was a fan of the brisket. There's a choice of one bbq sauce here, apparently, and that's fine, because sometimes I don't want to be overwhelmed by 10 choices of BBQ sauce. The food was incredible! We had pulled pork, cornbread, coleslaw, Mac and cheese, and a quesadilla. The service is super friendly and fast. There is inside seating and a nice covered patio. One of the best ribs I've ever had, just done to perfection! Pulled pork was awesome and the serving huge. The Mac & Cheese very creamy and super hot. Wife had a pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries, again it was all sooo very good. Very clean place, lots of seating inside and out, attentive staff. The cons are as follows: - order was done in 2 minutes (fresh?) - sweet potato fries were awful (soggy, old) - Mac & cheese was like glue - the pulled chicken was the worst; reminded me of middle school lunch slop - no identifiable chicken at all, no BBQ taste - price was high $33.49 for 2 people Hope it gets better! I've been wanting to check this place out since they opened. Tonight, I had the brisket sandwich with a side of baked beans. Very disappointed to say the least. The brisket was very dry, hope it wasn't left over since Tuesday? FYI, they only offer the brisket on Tuesday and Saturday. It had no smoke flavor and made me think it was cooked in an oven and not in a smoker? It came on a dry stale roll making it even more dry! They added coleslaw to the sandwich. Way to much and come on guys is it really that hard to make your own slaw? This slaw came right out of a tub from their food purveyor (Sysco or US Foods). The beans were straight from a can with nothing added to make them palatable. I expected better and I hope they take this review to heart and fix these issues. read more

It's hard to call this a BBQ place considering they only serve brisket on Tuesdays and Saturday and every other blue moon. They do not serve any sausage of any kind. The chicken wasn't specified that it would be pulled or heavy sauced. So, if you are hoping to get a quarter of chicken.... sorry. The ribs didn't have any evidence of any smoke and they were overly sauced and dry. Also, there is not a lot of options for any home sauce, BBQ sauce or any local sauces. To end this on a good note the hushpuppies were very good and its hard-to-find fried okra in BBQ joints. Finally got by to give it a try and I have to say did not disappoint. So ordered a barbecue platter a brisket patter and a rib platter so we could test several items. The barbecue is good smoke flavor it was shredded it was delicious, the brisket was awesome moist fell apart literally, it had a really good crust and was delicious. Ribs we very good had just a little rig to them right at fall off the bone couldn't of been happier with the entrees the were delish. Barbecue sauce is sweet which is ok I like a little tangy but just my taste my wife loved it.... I've only ever had the breakfast bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich from Embers and it was so good! They put what I think was fresh thyme in the sandwich which was a complete surprise and really yummy!
