This place has really improved over the last year since they remodeled and I'm thrilled. I love how clean this store always is. There is always someone stocking in the produce section and they are always really helpful and friendly. I love that. I like how fresh the produce is and I know if I need help it is readily available. The recent addition of fresh pre-made lunch option is a nice perk. I love being able to find sushi or sandwiches to have when I get home. I'm not big on cooking so this is fantastic for me. They have a huge cheese section now which I have definitely put to good use. They are getting more and more organic food options if that is your deal. The store is laid out well and that makes it easy to get in and out quickly. I can always find what I need here. I like that the cashiers are always nice and chatty while they try to get thru your items in a timely manner. I love that I get a discount for our using my reusable bags! The grocery store isn't one of my favorite errands but I'm glad to have this place as an easy stop to get what I need and get out quickly. read more

It's day 1 of my Reno trip, and so far I'm actually impressed. Smiths was a pretty comprehensive place, and best thing of all?!! Open 24 hours! Sweeet... Long story short they got it all here. Very unprofessional and ran like shit . The managers at this location are very disrespectful and will talk shit behind employees backs . They had Courtesy Clerks doing things that weren't even talked about in training and when brought up it wasn't taken serious . I had told Chris who is a manager there that there was an insect problem back in the break room, i was told to grab a bleach off the shelf and spray and mop up the insects... that does not solve the problem . Chris is very disrespectful to customers and profiles people who HE feels are uncomfortable to him . He has no self regard and he is very hostile and arrogant . The store itself is just a negative space. Store manager Jill doesn't care about other employees just her favorite ones and she's very rude and has no customer service skills at all . When conflicts come about higher ups will automatically take the persons side who they personally like more instead of viewing the problem as a whole . While this grocery store is conveniently located just down the street from my residence, I prefer to shop elsewhere. The pricing keeps me away more than anything else. I picked up some items from the Pharmacy area to help my daughter with her incessant coughing. I used the self check out, and had to show id for my purchase. The clerk greeted me with a kind smile and promptly checked my id. I bagged my items and headed out. I came into a fairly clean store...how clean can it stay with all the traffic coming through? I was able to find what I was looking for. I was able to checkout without incident and without wait. Mission accomplished. read more

Came here last week and they were all out of strawberries, the week before that they were all out of limes, a week before that they were all out of garlic. I mean come on! 3 basics. Grocery Store open 24 hours and right down the street? You start at 3 stars. Unfortunately, the positive stops there. The meat/seafood department is one of the worst in town, a huge bummer for this grill master. The produce section is their best feature, which is just OK. The "deli" totally sucks. The prices are perfectly acceptable. The store is always pretty clean. The staff is the most intriguing. Most of them do a great job making sure everything is running smooth and seem to be very knowledgable. I also get the impression that NO ONE wants to be there. I am at this store 2-3 times a week to pick up various items on the way home and I've been coming here for 2 years. Why don't I have more people recognizing me and saying hi? All very friendly people there, however, ran into my first unfriendly clerk in the self-check out isle today @2:25pm. I moved my bags around to make more room and got the usual "unexpected item" warning. After a couple of times, he brought out his handheld device and said I had not scanned four items, which I had, then proceeded to ask me, "Do you not hear it telling you that? If you need more room, you should use the bigger carousel that has six bag holders." Seriously? Will be happy when the Safeway is open by my house and shopping will be closer for me. read more

There are some great things about Smiths, they have a pretty good selection of better than average cheese, Try Beecher's Cheddar Cheese, its bomber for making mac and cheese. They carry Truckee Sourdough bread which I'm a fan of and they carry Tombstone Pizza for my once a year fix down memory lane. (I've been eating that pizza for a long time) They've started to carry some organic produce which is pretty cool and their selection is not bad. On the other hand, I've never received good service there and I would venture to say that most of the meat they carry is below average. To put my tastes in perspective though, I'm a food snob and honestly I was a happier eater when I wasn't lol, but I can't change it. I also shop at Whole Foods, so maybe the comparison is like oranges and apples, but I can't eat their meat. read more

It feels weird to review my local grocery store, but this location has done so much to improve its service to my community that I want to pay it props. The most recent remodel has given us a comprehensive produce department with a large array of organic as well as non organic fruit and veggie options, a full service deli with a wide selection of meats and cheeses, and a sushi bar. The store has wide aisles and is super clean; the staff is always quick to say hi and ask if you need help (except the grumpy older man who is often in the produce department), and checkout is always extremely quick and efficient. The pharmacy staff is friendly and I can usually get my prescriptions filled within just a couple of minutes. Signing up for a rewards card is free and earns you points on gasoline at the station in the supermarket parking lot. Shopping for my family usually earns me at least a 50 cent discount on gas per month-a nice perk when you are already having to get your shopping done anyway! Very glad and lucky this market happens to be in my 'hood!!! read more

I think I'm going to stop coming here after my last experience. I found myself in this area right before I had to go to a friend's house for dinner and decided to pick up the groceries here. I had to buy a lot of fruit and vegetables. That turned out to be a mistake. These must have been the worst fruit and vegetables I've seen in a supermarket in a long time. I picked through everything the best I could, grabbed some other items and then went through check out. They only had two cashiers and the lines were going everywhere. It took forever to get checked out. The grocery store selection in south Reno is just terrible. read more

I've never been a fan of the requirement of needing a "value" card in order to get a sale price. If you pay regular price it is normally without the card, you could nearly guarantee that you are paying the highest price for the region on that specific item. Smith's is the only chain in the area that still requires a card for you to get the sale price on their items. If you shop their sales you can find good deals. Just hope your mom or dad has already signed up for a card and you can punch in their phone # for the discount and save the headache of signing for your own! This location is always clean and staff have been helpful when we've asked. On our last few visits the parking lot was treacherous so be careful! There seem to be a lot of people in this area that drive carelessly. As a side note, they have added 2 more self checkouts so there are a total of 6. It can get pretty busy for the 1 staffer assigned to watch them and you may have to wait for a few mins if there are other people that need help, which we have had happen. They also offer some type of discount program for fuel, however, we normally don't spend much money in here when we do go so I don't have any info to provide regarding that, sorry. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this Smith's yet! Considering I never shopped at a Smith's before I went to Elko, I can't imagine not shopping at this Smith's. One bonus is that it's 2 seconds away from my house. However, Smith's has undergone a lot of changes since I shopped there over 20 years ago with my mother. In particular, this Smith's has a huge variety of produce (both organic and non-organic), a huge deli with a cheese section, fresh bread section, and other delicious items, and they have an organic aisle if you buy organically. I've never been able to not find something and they have great sales if you can catch them at the right time. I definitely recommend getting their rewards card as it helps with groceries AND gas. The only reason I knocked them down a star is that you can't always find specialty items. For instance I've been unable to find leeks and shallots (although, I did see those there today) and one time my husband needed a special kind of teryaki sauce. Again, it's not a big deal, but would be nice to see them go that way in the future. read more

This store is always on the ball with their customer service and I don't have any complaints about that. Their prices are fair and competitive and selection is enough for someone to pretty much make anything at home that they are looking to cook/make for themselves. My only gripe with this store is their selection of bananas. They are always yellow and borderline bruised/going bad. They never have a green banana out there. Green is the best to get because not everyone needs to all of the bananas that they buy within a day or two of buying them. If they would just improve their banana selection, I would give them a 5 star rating. read more

I shopped yesterday at this Smiths and was shocked to see the Sushi chef making food and not wearing a mask. Down the aisle the butcher was putting out meat not wearing gloves or mask. No checker was wearing masks. I called for the manager who came all decked out in a mask and gloves. This very strange, that no employees were required to use masks, yet the manager wore one. Seems that the customers did not warrant protection. Also, no hand sanitizing solution or wipes were at the entrance. Even lowly 99cent store had this for customer use upon entering and leaving. For me this is the best store in the Reno area. IT has all that I want and usually at a reasonable price. There are some things I do take a step back at when looking at the price, but not often. It is a well maintained store with friendly folks working. But I do hope Michael B. is ok as he was not his usual gregarious self today. He was not mean or anything, just very quiet with the look of something not good going on. Hope it was just an off day for him and he is back to normal tomorrow. The pharmacy technicians are the rudest women I have ever met. They are not interested in being the least bit helpful or aware of what it means to provide good customer service. They would be happy if you just went someplace else for your medication so they wouldn't have to actually work to help you. We live behind the South Meadows Smiths in Reno. Smith's is wonderful on the inside! Beautiful produce! Incredible service. We love shopping there for convenience. Lately, however, something has changed about the parking lot. It is no longer safe to walk through and get groceries. Several people live in the parking lot...towards the back. Some live in their cars...and take care of personal business right there in the parking lot. On a daily basis we see people who live in the back parking lot, urinate and publicly use the lot as a restroom. There is also a lot of pan handling, drug deals, and loitering. My neighbors and I no longer feel safe on our own, or with our children while exiting the store. If you shop at Smiths, please be safe! Park in front and make sure to lock your car doors! Smith's is my ultimate go-to grocery store. I used to live right next to it and coming here after work just became a habit. Not to mention, my work is also super close to this location as well. Now that we live further away, I still make an effort to visit Smith's for our daily grocery. I might have to say that this Smith's location is the best grocery store in Reno, in my opinion. Their organic selection has slowly grown over the years which makes me happy and also saves me a trip to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Over the last year or so, they have renovated parts of the store, particularly the produce section and it's a much cleaner, well organized change. The flow of the store is perfect, I can go from one aisle to the next effortlessly and check off the items on my list as if I designed this store. Cashiers are friendly and they make sure that your wait in line is as minimal as possible. They have added 2 more self-checkouts in the past year, making it 6 self-checkouts total. I tend to use the self-checkouts more since I get really picky when bagging my grocery that I'd rather do it myself. It's at a convenient location -- with Starbucks, POS and U-Swirl in the same shopping center. So if you need a afternoon meal, then you can easily head over to POS for a sandwich or an afternoon pick me up from Starbucks. I have shopped here numerous times and I will always choose this grocery store over any other in town. read more

Smith Corporate has their heads up their butt. These clowns decided to not take VISA Credit Cards because VISA "rates" went up. No notice as one enters the store! So one wastes their time shopping only to find that the credit card is no longer accepted at check out. Policy began April 1st. They accept debit card, however smart customers do not use debit cards because the banks use debit cards as an opportunity to charge ridiculous fees. Pricing is not any better than Raley's which has overall better quality of selections. I'll be shopping Raley's. read more

Beyond ridiculous service, customer walking through produce with a dog draped over his shoulders and staff would not address the concern. Seemed as though I was in the wrong to address the issue and was told that they were unable to say anything. I'm not sure if the health department will agree but I'll ask on Monday morning. This place is great. It's always clean, well stocked and the cashiers recognize you. I live right around the corner and its always very pleasent just being able to run over when you need some thing. My favorite Smiths in town the store are clean specially the deli and meat and sea food . But the only catch my eye is the people in the bakery. Most of them are not using a cloves while working. And one person I notice in the front is one old white blonde fat lady eating some bread no cloves and not washing her hand. After I see her do that. I never go near of any bakery products. Wow nasty.. I hope the Smiths management do something about the bakery employees. read more

There's not much to hate about this place....wait, I don't really buy anything pre-cooked her, have not had great experiences in that department, (For pre-cooked items, go to whole foods). Their prices for the most part are comparable to Winco and Walmart without the hoards of rude people and long lines. Plus, they bag your groceries here, no other grocery store in this price range does that. Gas is also very cheap here and they send you coupons in the mail that are customized for what you buy, not just random crap. Every coupon is useful. read more

I'll get thing that say the Kroger brand stuff is on sale, but it's never the same sale price mentioned in those ads. The parking lot is a disaster as well. In addition, the frozen isle sucks. Today (6/21/2019)when I went in on my lunch break an employee named sue was grabbing all of the spilled toppings with her bare hand and put them back into The salad bar. I have always loved Smiths. Even though there are a little on the expensive side on certain things, they more than make up for it in sales and the store brand Kroger. The store is always immaculate and the staff always friendly. I recently lost my insurance and in turn lost my 15 year pharmacy! I work near Smiths and thought well heck I try Smiths pharmacy. Well I was not disappointed at all. I immediately felt as though I had been going there for years. The pharmacist was so helpful in getting all my Rx transferred and filled and adding my insurance to their system. I greatly appreciate a good pharmacy, that's why I went to the same one forever but Im super happy to have found an amazing replacement! read more

My wife and I have been shopping at this Smith's location for over 13 years and I just don't understand what has happened to the Service folks at the cold cut section at the Deli. Normally I have received good service from the folks here but today was the worst ever. People were backed up, getting fed up with the incompetent folks behind the counter and walking away. I waited for a good 10 minutes and was not even waited on. So, I also walked away totally disappointed and disgusted. Needless to say we will no longer be shopping here again. read more

This store is too small for servicing this area. Reno is a big city and we are so limited on a big enough grocery store. So many times I go in and they are out of some produce. Their produce is section is too small and very limited. I feel they have cut back on baggers and the check out clerk is checking out the groceries and then bagging the groceries. I've been to several Kroger stores and I am not impressed with the layout of this store. read more

Overall staff is generally nice. When you walk into this Smith's it opens up to the produce section which is also a nice cool temperature. Ladies at the deli counter are really helpful and nice. Sushi is pretty good and the meat and seafood have plenty of options, even Ahi tuna poke mixed and ready to eat. read more

We needed something last minute at this store for Christmas Eve dinner, and called before we left the house to make sure they were open. They told us they were open until 7. We walked up to the store's front doors at 6:45, and they were turning people AWAY because they decided to close early. I tried to explain to the manager outside that we had called and were told the hours, and she was very nasty. Do yourself a favor, go across the street to Sprouts. Smiths has always been so over-rated...there was NO need for the manager to be SO NASTY to us. read more

Being new-ish to the area Smiths is a breath of fresh air compared to Walmart or Winco as the alternatives in South Reno. While Smiths is not a discount store and you pay a little bit more, I happily do so. The fresh produce is just that fresh and delicious. The deli and bakery staff are always helpful and put together a last minute birthday cake for me when the ball was dropped by another. I have never stood in line longer then a few minutes and the cashiers are helpful and friendly. read more

The store is always clean and they always have fresh produce and baked goods.
