I'm not sure if this is a sister chain to Harris teeter but it gave me very similar vibes. Big produce selection, and some nice GF bread options which you don't find often. They had an area that had a big salad bar with so many olive options that reminded me of HT. The place was clean and easy to navigate. Always interesting to visit a different city's local grocery store.

Okay, so let's talk about my beef shank saga. I've been on this little mission to make some German comfort food, and beef shanks were the star of the show. Found them listed at $3.99/lb (a total unicorn price, btw), so I hit the trail, Carson in the morning? None. Carson at night? Still none. Dayton? Nope. Finally, I call the Smith's on South Meadows Parkway and they tell me yes, they've got them. I head over all excited... and guess what? Zip. Nada. No shanks. At this point, I could've given up, but I called again the next morning. The meat department gentleman was super nice and even asked what time I'd be coming in so they could hold some for me. I show up at 1 p.m. nothing on the shelf. But then I see this one employee stocking meat and ask if he can check. A few minutes later, out comes "Leon the Butcher" yes, that's what I'm calling him now he's hit rockstar status) carrying a huge tray of freshly cut beef shanks, smiling like he just saved the day because he totally did. Freshest meat ever. Best service I've had in a long time. Leon, you're a legend, my friend. This place is quickly becoming my favorite store, fresh olive bar, cleanest deli and meat case area, above and beyond customer service and now Mr. Leon. Thank you so much!

Okay, time for another update as it has been two years...? At minimum, to link all my photos, lol. Quality/Quantity - Still my favorite Reno supermarket. Best beer prices when on sale, as long as you use their digital coupons. I get my produce and meats here also. But recently, I have been giving their competitors a try for produce. Tried their sushi a few times; it is only good for emergencies in my opinion. Atmosphere - Have the following departments - Starbucks, pharmacy, floral, bakery, deli, etc. Open 7 days a week from 6am to midnight. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Self service, so great. Majority of the time, the team is great. Price - Very reasonable. Their advertised items are inexpensive. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1911. 1911 - L. Smith. 1932 - Smith's & Son's Market. 1952 - Smith's Super Market. 1997 - Bought by Fred Meyer. 1998 - Bought by Kroger, their current parent company. This Smith's is run well; please appreciate the manager and their team.

Hannah, the clerk at the self checkout station at Smith's was so helpful! She is proficient, professional and personable. I shop at Smiths because it has great deals, is clean and well stocked. The staff is great there and that makes it go over the top for my favorite food store.

Much of the produce is locally grown, or locally adjacent (AKA California) OK, Bananas do not grow in the Great Basin. The origin of the produce is identified. I love picking up a fresh salad (some with meat some purely vegan/vegetarian) , a yummy very generously filled wrap, house made cookies and other delectable treats. They have a large selection of locally produced meats. Lots of organic canned goods, dairy and non-dairy items . . . the list goes on. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Memberships are available (20$/year) with a once a month 10% off of your total purchase. You do NOT need a membership to shop here. It's small and a bit cramped but there is a lot of good stuff there. It's clean and friendly and completely locally owned.

Anna assists me almost every time I visit, and she is a absolute joy. She always has a genuine smile on her face and possesses the best attitude. Honestly, it's some of the best customer service I've ever experienced anywhere. She consistently turns a routine grocery trip into a great day. Unfortunately, my experience at the deli counter recently was the exact opposite. I went to order a sandwich and, as a first-timer, didn't realize there was a paper form I needed to fill out first. I stood waiting for assistance, and a staff member named Teri walked up, mumbled something, and immediately started to walk away. Because I couldn't hear her, I politely asked her to repeat herself. Teri responded with an incredibly dismissive attitude, acting as though asking for clarification was a major inconvenience. She then repeated, "You need to fill out the paper," speaking very condescendingly, as if I were unable to understand basic instructions. Even after I explained that I had never ordered a sandwich here before and simply didn't know the process, her attitude remained hostile. It was an incredibly uncomfortable and off-putting interaction. If it weren't for Anna completely turning my mood around at checkout per usual, I would have walked out incredibly frustrated. Management has a real gem in Anna, but they desperately need to address the customer service standards and basic courtesy at the deli counter.

Located directly off of S. Virginia St and adjacent to S. Meadows Pkwy in the southern part of Reno, this is one of three locations in the Reno metropolitan area (with the other two stores in north Reno and Sparks). The parking lot is actually quite spacious with ample room to get in and out to the main road. During my visit which was on Friday 7/3/2026 at around 1:30pm, it was fairly busy but the store itself had a great open layout. Those of you that don't know this about WinCo Foods is that they are a private employee-owned company. Prices are probably the best you will find anywhere other than Costco but here you won't get the massive crowds that Costco experiences on any given day. Keep in mind that WinCo only accepts cash, debit cards, and Apple Pay/Google Pay as they do not take credit cards of any kind. Also, you must bag your own groceries but this is their trademark to all of their locations in the western United States. I do want to add that since this is the state of Nevada, this WinCo actually has a small dedicated area (towards the front) where slot machines are available. This is great for those that want to avoid the hustle and bustle of going to an actual casino. In addition to that, they also have an area where alcohol is sold, a customer service area (where you can buy cigarettes, money orders, money transfers, payroll check cashing, and much more). Public restrooms are also available towards the front area of the supermarket. As for the store itself, much of the produce (fruit/veggies) was very fresh and well stocked. They also carry a huge assortment of bulk foods (nuts, rice, pasta, flour, candy, etc.). an amazing variety of meat & poultry, a dedicated bakery and deli section, and just about everything else you can think of. I find their selection to be much better than other big box grocery stores as this place always carries what I am looking for. Best of all, they are open 24 hours. When I made all my purchases, I went to the self check-out aisle (as they accept cash, debit, or tap-to-pay). The whole process was seamless and easy. All in all, the south Reno "WinCo Foods" gets a respectable four-star rating.

From specialty flours, grains, spices, and dried fruits to candies, nuts, baking ingredients, and snacks, the selection is impressive. Whether you're stocking a pantry, running a small bakery, or simply buying exactly the amount you need, the bulk department offers both variety and affordability that few competitors can match. The store itself was well stocked, clean, and easy to navigate, and the prices consistently remind you why so many shoppers make WinCo their first stop. The only downside? The checkout lines. All of this while providing full-time positions and livable wages with benefits too. Winco proves it! In the 20+ years that I've been a Winco customer, I've always been treated well which is a phenomenal track record that some jerk has ruined. Why Linda, why? She was covering the service desk and I came in to return a defective item. As I approached the desk, she was looking me up and down with a very strange expression. So because of this, I wasn't affable but I definitely wasn't rude. I cut to the chase of why I was there. She treated me VERY badly which I ignored for the most part, stating that in all of the years that I've shopped at Winco I've never been treated so poorly. She responded by saying that I was the problem and invited me to call the corporate office! Then she said aggressively, "I've had three horrible customers in one day!" repeating it a few times. I asked to speak to a manager and she quipped that he was busy and he couldn't get away so I asked someone else to page him for me and she interfered with that page, telling them to cancel it. This is a brand new store and everyone else is amazing which is what I'm used to. I wrote this shortly after the store first opened and haven't had an unpleasant experience since and I shop here weekly. I also have not seen Linda. It's a great store with great employees and low prices. I'll keep buying whatever they have that I need from Winco. This store is my first go to store.
