I've hit my limit with this store, it was great for awhile but now having bought the 5th package of rotten chicken in the span of a few months and dealing with Jim, the manager(?), who continues to make bizarre age-related comments about my wife when purchasing alcohol like "you sure don't look old enough" twice a week, she is, Her license is valid and legal, you've scanned it, either drop it or don't sell us alcohol. We aren't interested in your vaguely sexual fixation on her age. There's something wrong with their meat department packaging procedures or dates, chicken packaged yesterday should not be rotten, someone's getting the dates wrong or meats are sitting unrefrigerated, either way what I just purchased isn't edible. The younger kids working there are all great, zero issues, good conversations, but I'm keeping Jim at a distance from my wife and the bad meat situation is forcing my business elsewhere. read more

Small, local store which has so many different sections featuring local products, which makes it exciting to try so many local products in one location. The store feels like it has been here for awhile, but is a local treasure. Their bakery is huge and has some amazing looking cookies that I can't wait to try. This store is a great place to browse and discover some new Utah made treats. Their prices are pretty reasonable for those who may choose to do most of their shopping here. They did have a seafood case that had Maryland crab cakes for $2 a piece. Scary. read more

As I pulled into the parking lot today, I noticed they had their "wood fire" pizza oven open. I gave it a notice, and then went inside to shop. The Store is well stocked with tons of local products. The produce section was well stocked with "fresh" produce. You could smell/see the fresh orange juice being made right there in the fruit section. I love how they switch up their holiday displays, always a fun entry into the store, with an emphasis on holiday gnomes. I've been coming here specifically for their fresh "you make it" salad bar. So far it has been well stocked, clean and fresh. A tad bit expensive, but well worth the price. I picked up a couple of items (I can't afford to buy all my groceries here) and headed out to my car. That's when I noticed the pizza stand again. I thought why not. It's lunch time, and I'm hungry. You place your order, then you have to go back inside, and wait in line to pay. Come back outside, show proof of payment then they make your pizza. These are 12" individual pizzas, so I decided to eat at one of their outside tables instead of taking it home to eat. Red Flag was when they brought the pizza out within 5 minutes. I opened the lid of the box, and my first thought was why is the crust burnt, and the cheese isn't melted. Strange looking basil too. (The basil wasn't fresh, but dried, - invision chopped up parsley) But most of all I wasn't expecting the pizza to be COLD. I know some people don't mind eating leftover cold pizza, but this was supposed to have come right out of the oven. I ate two small pieces, and threw the rest in the garbage. It's like they cooked (burnt) the crust ahead of time, threw some sauce on it, then topped it off with some cheese (not even fresh mozzarella) and dried basil and called it a day. Where is the quality control and/or pride in your product? Do yourself a favor, save your money, and take a trip to Italy for a real tasty wood fire pizza that actually tastes good. I've been here a handful of times over the years, and loved what I saw. It wasn't until this trip where I was doing my full week's shopping here. That just made me like it more. They have a fantastic selection of prepared dishes too. That includes mashed potatoes and gravy. That gravy looks amazing. They had every specialty item I normally get at Harmons. They are smaller, but do a better job of having paired out the junk so I don't have to look at 20 types of everything when looking a 5 is good enough. We've decided that even though it's not near home, we'll get by here much more often and do shopping here. read more

"The Store" is seriously the cutest market ever! Sure, it's a bit on the small side (think of it as a mini Trader Joe's), but I still adore it. I went there yesterday (for the first time) to buy a few ingredients for my family's 4th of July BBQ, and I couldn't get over how much character it had. Some of their items were a bit pricey (although, their filet mignons were on sale:), but that's to be expected with locally made/sourced food and ingredients. What's not to LOVE about this place. They seem to have all of the absolutely best specialty grocery items (seriously, where else can you regularly get June Pies?!?), their signature brand chips and salsa are amazing, and the bakery borders on dangerous! But the purpose of this review is to let y'all in on a little secret . . . this is one of the BEST places to get a delicious to go lunch. They have a wide variety of piping hot smoked meats, casseroles, vegetables, and salad options galore. And every day the menu changes bit by bit, so there is always something new to try. My absolute favorite and go to menu item is the balsamic herb smoked chicken thighs--truly mouth watering and scrumptious. On this visit I also had a stuffed green pepper and a scoop of the twice baked/roasted baby red potatoes--and every bite was delicious. I paired my meal with a Vanilla-Orange Coke Zero and finished up with some fresh fudge thumbprint cookies from the bakery. And it was all less than $15! In a nutshell, The Store is a specialty/gourmet + local + gift shop + grocery store. Woah. In addition to supermarket staples and standard brands, they have a great variety of local products, including fresh baked June Pies, honey, boxed Rebecca and V Chocolates, and Lollipuff cotton candy. As far as specialty goods go, they smoke meat in-house, offer marinated meats and prepared meals, and carry Jacobsen Salt (THE BEST, seriously). They even have CBD chocolate (and a bunch of other yummy bars, too). You can make your own fresh squeezed orange juice! Lastly, I was delighted to spy some beautiful Voluspa candles. It is small, by grocery store standards, but it feels like they've made good use of the space while avoiding overcrowding. It was clean, employees were friendly, and though busy on the Saturday morning I visited, there was no line to check out. Prices are high, as is to be expected for local and specialty products. While I cannot see this being a staple store for weekly shopping, it was a pleasure to explore, and would be a fantastic spot to pick up some uncommon goods or gifts. What an adorable little store! This is the kind of place that grandma's drives to. You know--one of two place she ever goes in her 1983 Oldsmobile that now has 22,000 miles on it? Ya, that's what this place is. No, actually, I really mean it. Before my grandma moved from her nearby condo, this was her grocery store of choice. It took me years to figure out that when she said she had to go to the store, she meant "The Store." But thanks to them I had years of fruit roll-ups and that cheese with the cow on it. She drove here and also to the hospital where she volunteered for years and years. She put on less than 5,000 miles on her car per year, I'm pretty sure. Throughout the years they've taken a more natural, high-end, and variety approach to their inventory. Me likey. But if you're used to the basics and their accompanying prices... well.. you may be better served somewhere else. But if you'd rather go somewhere that takes a good, long look at the food it's stocking, takes pride in the produce, and is like a Wonka factory (on a small scale) of grocery shopping then you're going to want to go shopping at the store. I am not often compelled to reach out and write a review of a place to emphasize great customer service. I came into The Store with my three little kids looking to get something for dinner, I could tell it was near the end of the day for most employees as it was fairly late. We had just left Primary Children's Hospital and stopped at the store on the way home for an easy solution for dinner. The man with the tattoo on his forearm working in the butcher section yesterday evening was outstandingly helpful and represented that establishment better than anyone has at any store I've been to in Utah. The Store gained a lot of respect from me just off the thoughtful and kind attitude that guy has. read more

Some of their pies, chocolates, and cookies I noticed are a little bit pricey in my opinion, but they all look amazing so maybe its worth it? TRUST ME - you NEED to stop in to this store. You think Harmon's carries local? Compared to 'The Store', Harmons is just another big chain. This little grocery store somehow manages to carry everything you need: produce, meats, beer, snacks, pantry items, everything. So what makes it so special? They carry a ton of local stuff! Their donuts? They carry Banbury Cross and Dunford Bakery. No need to make a separate trip for some of Utah's best donuts. Their cookies? They make some in house, but also carry Cutler's Cookies. All I've tried have been delicious. Meats? They carry Meier's meats. You know... just some of the best meat that Utah has to offer. Then let's talk about selection. I love having a variety of protein bars, jerky, instant oatmeal, etc at my office in order to have quick and filling snacks. This place carries the best variety I've ever seen. I've found so many new favorites. I don't get how such a small store can have such a big variety. The best part? The prices here are pretty similar to anywhere else! This place is legit. **Disclaimer** every cashier I've had has been a tad bit grumpy... I could see that getting old week after week. Hopefully that's not always the case. read more

The Store makes me want to rejoice in expletives. If I could come here every time I need to go grocery shopping, I would, but then I'd have $2 to my name and be 300 pounds. I'm a huge fan of grocery stores that carry specialty items in tandem with classic, mainstream brands, because sometimes you just need the tried and true staples alongside something you've never heard of. And while I do selfishly wish their were more locations, I will admit that this would likely derail the operation. The Store is able to be specially curated because of its single location, and the attention to detail is immaculate because it's not spread thin. You know all the well intended campaigns urging you to shop local? This would be so much easier if more grocery stores actually carried a decent selection of local products. It appears that The Store has contracts with several vendors, so from the bakery to the butcher and back around to the produce, not a single area has been overlooked, and products have thus been sourced responsibly. To find a grocery store like this in a metro area of 1 million plus is seriously impressive. Aside from being an overall ace of a grocery store, The Store also offers all sorts of options for takeaway and lunch. Their frozen meals can be the unsung hero of nights where you don't want to cook. If you're looking for a home cooked meal, the hot bar is $7.99 per pound and nearly impossible to resist. I only wish there were more vegetarian items, but I'll be the first to admit the things they do here with meat are primo. To conclude a review that could go on singing praise for ages, I'll end by saying I cannot recommend The Store enough. If we were to ever lose her, it would be nothing short of a tragedy. read more

Before you think I'm insane let me just mention that my mom (who I was incredibly close to- and who was only in her 50s) died in April and just about anything that reminds me of her makes me burst into tears. Walking into The Store did just that. This is my mom's kind of place. Small, friendly, great produce selection and so very quaint. I kept thinking as I went down every aisle just how much she would have ADORED this store. I was so impressed by the general store vibe mixed with the quality and good selection of products. Pretty cool place. The food seems to be of high quality and the staff (when you can find them) are pretty nice. They have great produce and meat selection is prime. My only complaint(s)... is the staff appears to be made up of teenagers... there's no hussle or expertise... I have the feeling this is a mom/pop grocery store, so they are most likely grandchildren or family members of the owners. Also, a lot of elderly people shop here. Nothing against old/elderly people and I'll admit I can be very impatient, but on multiple times I've shopped here I've been behind and elderly person while checking out and they can be slow and write checks... I wish the staff would open up more checkout lines in order to get people in/out a little faster. read more

Great specialty store. I love coming here for things like Normal Ice Cream, Cutler's cookies, Cakes De Fleur, and most importantly now Filling and Emulsions baked good. Only complaint is Fillings and Emulsions doesn't drop off their stuff till a little later and I'm always there at like 7 am. Not the Store's fault though. Can get all your basic groceries here, but loads of unique things for gifts or just to treat yourself! read more

Along with The Other Place, The Store goes onto my list of "Places with names that are somewhat annoying in a conversational context, but are awesome nonetheless." That being said, it really is awesome. I don't know what it is, but the charm of this place is so endearing to me. Really, I only came here for one reason, and that was for the chicken salad. You must be thinking, what in the heck is she talking about? Like, the pre-packed chicken salad? And yes, I do mean that, their chicken salad has to be the best thing I've eaten in a really long time. And by best, I mean, most surprisingly good that I couldn't help but finish off an entire half sized container to myself within about four days. So basically every lunch/snack for a series of four days. It's strange because the chicken salad isn't anything out of the ordinary, but it's just done well, and the seasoning is just perfect. Everything about The Store just makes me smile on the inside. Not just their chicken salad, but the fact that they have great quality products, all packed within a really small space, as well as amazing customer service. I only wish I lived closer then when I say "I'm going to the store" it garners a bit more excitement than it usually does. read more

I grew up shopping with my mom, who is a bit of a health food nut, at The Store (sadly my family has moved to draper and the store is just too far). This place is a combo of a farmer's market and Trader Joe's with a cute mom & pop feel. They Come off as a bit of a specialty food store but with all the normal items one would find in a regular grocery store. They meats are glorious, although Snyder Bros is right next door. They usually have seasonal local specials, based on whats available. People there enjoy working there, which is nice because they are much more helpful and friendly. It's small, but surprisingly well-stocked--full of fresh produce, gourmet meats and cheeses, and hard to find items like my favorite North Carolina BBQ sauce (Bone Suckin' Sauce . . . surpassed in yumminess only by the same company's habanero-based Hiccupin' Hot Bone Suckin' hot sauce . . . Oh. My. God. Perfection in a bottle. But not [yet] available at The Store.). Anyhoo. You walk into The Store and are channeled directly into the produce section. Although much (most?) of it is organic, the prices are surprisingly reasonable; there's not a lot, but there's more than you would think for such a small space and what's there is top quality. On the way, by the way, you'll pass some cheeses to your left; there isn't a ton of variety, but--again--what's there is great. Try the asiago cheese dip, but be forewarned that you won't be able to stop eating it. It's transcendent. Leaving the produce section, you're channeled next into an aisle with--among other items--gourmet pastas and sauces, housemade pizzas, etc. That aisle leads you directly to the meat section, which is chock full of top quality cuts. Seriously, you can't go wrong, no matter whether you are buying the unadorned meats to flavor at home or the pre-seasoned, grill-ready meats that are in the next case over. From there, the space opens up into a more traditional grocery store layout. The rest of The Store is similarly, and surprisingly, awesome. I'm always happy to find in every section numerous items I've never seen before but would really like to try. And, although I'm not a sweets person, the bakery could tempt even me; my partner JJ can't get out of there without first driving me nuts by whinging like a five-year-old about how he "neeeeeds" a cookie/brownie/peanut butter bar/cupcake and keeping it up until I give in. (Last visit: pink frosted sugar cookie. I'll admit, it was delicious.) Overall, The Store is a great little grocery store with ample quality to balance against its admittedly limited quantity. It's weird, but amidst all the reviews (and updates) I've written, I sometimes will come across something like this, a gem that absolutely deserves accolades in a review, to find I have not done one for it at all. To that, we rectify. For the extraneous stuff, yes, the parking lot is funky and yes, the aisles are long and narrow and there is a feel of the well-worn to this store and no, there are no self-checker lanes to be found, but there are a ton of other purveyors slinging it, if you want that other stuff. Here, they clearly are angling to be a community store and develop a relationship and have actual human interaction, even with the checkers and sure, you may have to do-si-do to pass someone in the aisles, but as many, many other reviewers have noted, with this kind of stunning selection, well worth it. This reminds me a lot of Liberty Fresh, just on a much larger and grander scale, with a very eclectic and often exotic selection of delectables, including a respectably array of hot sauces. This is the kind of place where you will be well-rewarded if you take some time poking around (and yes, with the layout, you will be hard pressed not to take some time), but the job they do here is outstanding and very clearly, the focus is on quality, first and foremost.
