First time stopping in and it was all because of The Dirty Laundry band. Sure word of mouth can spread about a place based on food and drinks, but events bring in people that wouldn't normally venture out to places 45 minutes away. What a fun vibe and atmosphere and the band truly rocked that place last night!!! We had a few drinks and some appetizers to just munch on while listening. So much improved since becoming Smitty's! The food is good again and the service is great. Reasonable drink prices and better food. I didn't give it full stars because the steak sandwich is beef processed sliced meat and not shaved steak. My steak and cheese was disappointing. The steak was rubbery sandwich slices. That's were the negative ends though. Drinks are stout, service is great. Crowd is great and so down home. We visited on a Tuesday night with is karaoke night! Starts at 7pm and until 10p when the place closes. Great hours for a weeknight. Comfy booths and tables. We live just a few miles south and happy to put Smitty's back into our dinner rotation. read more

Very nice place considering it's in Hell. The staff were very friendly and right there if you needed anything. The food was great! The waffle fries were the best I've ever had! There are lots of people in there that are non-bikers though they have a decent selection of beers on draft and the food was high-quality bar food. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich, which I really enjoyed, and I thought the fries are really good as well. Are you a motorcycle? Are you riding your motorcycle in Michigan? Then you have to go to hell! New owners the food is actually quite good. The service is very friendly. It's a great place to go as long as you're not on the weekend scared of a bunch of guys on motorcycles. Also, the gift shop next-door is more than happy to give you a postcard. Ohh, this is a cool tavern in Hell, MI. I didn't try any food but I had two very, very delicious cocktails and also tried my friends which were super tasty. The vibe in here is Hell-related but the vibes are positive and feel good. They have live music on weekends, sell items such as their Bloody Mary mix and pickled beets, and they have lots of cool merch. I look forward to coming back, this place is totally my jam. read more

Great stop for lunch or dinner and a beer or two when near Pinckney. The saloon is open on Mondays and has a great little menu including house made pasties. We stopped by after a hike in the area and enjoyed a delicious hot Italian sub and fresh delicious fries. Next visit I need to check out their pasties. read more

Went there the other night during the week. I ordered the Pizza with pepperoni and bacon. The crust was burnt on the edges and also on the bottom. The crust was not evenly spreed and it was not fully cooked in the center. It had way too much cheese on it. Needs big improvement. My husband ordered the Perch. It usually is very good to why we go there but that night it was like it was just breaded with flour with no flavor. We used to get a good amount of pieces, but not that night. The fries were not crisp. And finally, their coleslaw is absolutely terrible tasting. I cannot imagine I am the first person to think so. I told a waitress before that the coleslaw was awful but still not replaced with a normal tasing one. Was not worth the $40+ for the two meals. read more

First time I went to hell and back the wife and I stopped at Smitty's hell saloon. great prices great food, especially their Cuban sandwich was one of the better one I've had in a long time. You can tell a great kitchen by how well they make a Cuban sandwich. We will be coming back to get their stuffed walleye. The staff were friendly prompt, and their homemade potato chips are awesome. I can remember eating here some years back, though not much stands out about the meal. Over the years my wife and I have stopped in a few times for drinks and/or appetizers (quesadillas yes!) after hiking out this way, and last night we finally made it back out for dinner. When I passed by a few months ago I saw a sign out for "housemade pasties." We ordered the beef one's yesterday and they were good. Really nice crust, good amount meat, gravy a bit salty, but not enough to overwhelm the pasty. North Peak Brewing's holiday ale was a nice accompaniment. We had happened to come on musical bingo night. While waiting for our meal we were offered a card and thought "why not?" (or given our setting, "why the hell not?"). The first round featured county music, which I know next to nothing about, but I still managed to get the bingo, which meant the price of my beer was deducted from the bill. Could have gotten another one for free if I'd chose, but we were planning to head home soon. Classic rural Michigan bar...with a bit of horror movie inspired decor. Interesting bar in Hell. Don't you want to go to hell and back? You can! It's not far and makes for an interesting road trip. We grabbed a beer and my first chicken pastie. It was yummy and filling- NO, I didn't mind the rutabaga! Staff is friendly and not overly so which is nice. The decor is bone chilling as one might expect. This isn't going to be a place that you brag about the food or the service, but it's so unique and fun that it's worth it! The food is just average bar food, nothing impressive. The service was just okay - our waitress did fine with the basic server tasks, but lacked a smile or much of a friendly personality. The Bloody Mary mix is absolutely delicious - we bought some bottles to take home - but the area where you get your "add ons" for it could use some cleaning. The decor is what makes it though - plastic rats in the ceiling, poison bottles, devils - it's accessorized with anything that can help make it feel like hell. It's unique and quirky and worth a stop if you are going through hell. We drove 45 minutes just to check out this saloon and the other 1-2 building that make up Hell, and have no regrets. Been going to this place since the 1960s, seen a lot of ups and downs. Lately, the food has been decent. Met a friend yesterday for pizza & beer. The pizza was raw - semi-liquid, uncooked dough topped by too much cheese. Whoever cut the pizza knew it was raw but served it anyway. Very disappointed. Our waitress was nice about it. I went to Hell last Wednesday (10/5/22), and had a chicken pasty at the saloon. I greatly enjoyed it. The chicken was cubed made from tenderloins. It was also quite nice in the inside, and it serves alcohol. Hell (Michigan) used to be a place where whiskey was distilled in the 19th century. So, go to Hell and have a pasty. read more

Well, I did it! I went to Hell and back! Lol I always wanted to say that. In all honesty I live really close to Hell Michigan but had never been to Hell. It's a cute little area with a store and a saloon. Of course of did the touristy stuff and took a ton of photos but then I made a pit stop into the Hell Saloon. It was very clean and the bar tender was nice. The chef actually gave us a sample of something new he was trying out, which was completely unexpected and delicious! It was a great atmosphere, fun place and since I live so close...I should probably go back more often! read more

We just stopped in for a visit to Hell (we were in Dexter for a training seminar) to take some pictures and we decided to wander into Smitty's Hell Saloon. The customer service was great! The staff looked out for us as soon as we walked in. We happened to stumble in on a Tuesday night--which happens to be musical Bingo night! We got in on the action and played for a "we'll buy you another of what you're drinking". We lost (and all were drinking water) but still had fun regardless. The place is nice. It seems to be recently remodeled or renovated. They really put care in to their Hell theme and had applicable decorations everywhere! We all ordered different hamburgers and sandwiches. Hell Saloon food quality has gone down hill over the last couple of years. I had the steak quesadilla and it was like they used sliced roast beef and put A1 sauce on it along with cheese. I could only eat a couple of bites as this was neither Mexican in style or flavor. Nice atmosphere if you want to go drink, but not a food destination in my opinion. read more

I've never made a negative review before but this place is getting 1 star because last year (didn't know you could leave a review here) me, my wife, and my best friend was on our way to Canada because my wife and my friend had never been. When they asked what brought us here I told the waitress/bartender that we was taking my wife on a surprise trip to Canada. Apparently that was a good enough reason to secr call the police on us and accuse us of trafficking my wife. She had already ID'd us both bc we was at the bar. Under new ownership. Pizza was better before. Our pizza sat out on shelf until stone cold when they served it. We had two orders of Quesadillas chicken was tough and seemed like leftovers. Nachos were pretty greasy, we ate only half of the order. Lastly 3 groups of people arrive 15-20 minutes after us and all were served there food well before we received ours. We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday around noon. We walked in found a place to sit and sat down. We were kind of wondering who worked there when finally one of 3 women sitting at a table walked away and grabbed menus. She was a thin blonde lady and friendly enough but I had to go over to her to get my check as she was deeply engrossed in her conversation with coworkers and packing bar cheese into a cup. The food was eh. One of the other workers, a skunk haired girl, was complaining incessantly about having to close Saturday and then be back 8 hours later to work an 8 hour shift on Sunday. She deserves a Saturday off (her words). We had heard about this place for years and I'm not sure why. The Bloody Mary was good. First and last time here. Wendy's would be a better option. read more
