We were kind of scared last week Wednesday when we 1st walked end wasn't for sure, but today the reception that we got and the quality of the food is on point. We're from the midwest, and Smoakie's Kitchen has found the way to bridge that gap. I guarantee you that this was some of the best barbecue we've had since been in Arizona over 6 years since living here. I got the "fatty brisket sandwich" and paid extra for sides so that I could get fatty slabs I saw in their pictures and what you would expect from a brisket sandwich and what I got was anything but. There isn't a lot of bbq restaurants around Laveen so I guess it was a matter of time until I tried this restaurant. The menu is mostly typical offerings like pulled pork, brisket, hot links and ribs but one protein stood out and I probably should have tried it. Lamb. Yep, the thoughts running through your head are probably the same ones I had as I drove away reading the menu. I like lamb but I have never seen it on a bbq menu so a return trip is definitely in order. The restaurant is pretty simple and I was greeted right away upon entering. Much to my surprise I was offered a lunch special on Sunday. Sandwich, side and drink for $11.99. So I ordered one with pulled pork, macaroni and cheese and an additional hot link. I could hear the chop, chop as my sandwich was being prepared and I was quickly presented with my lunch. A butter top bun with a nice pile of pork was on the plate, real Mac and cheese (you can see actual melted cheese, not the goo from the box) and my hot link. In addition to the food were sauces on the table, hot bbq, mild bbq and hot sauce. The pulled pork was great and had plenty of bark chopped in and wasn't wet or greasy and The sauces paired with it nicely. The hot link lived up to its name and was pretty spicy and delicious. One thing I noticed though was the color of the qhe sausage. It did not look like it had spent any time in the smoker and was quite light in color. Ordered a SIMPLE meal from Door Dash. Brisket sandwich with one side and a couple other items. Received my order. No brisket sandwich. Just a bunch of buns. I called the driver and he said he received one bag tied from the restaurant and delivered that. Called the store just now and, first of all, whoever answers a professional business phone with "helluh" like they can't be bothered to do their job, is already a red flag. Second, don't immediately tell me the driver stole my food that was tied so tightly I had to cut it open to get to it.
