My food today from Kings Plate
    Ms. H.

Let me start by saying you never know who you are helping and blessing. I found this food truck on Yelp today and called to see where it was located. I went to the location in Tempe. Baby let me say this his food is delicious, fire, a must have and will be going back. I tipped this man $10 today and went and sampled some yams and potatoe salad while I was putting my food in the car. Let me tell you I went back and asked him for my $10 back he was thrown off but he gave it to me because I had to bless this man with a $20 tip. This is how banging his food is. He was shocked. He didn't not know that he blessed my family today with such a beautiful delicious meal. We have been eating out for 2 months waiting for my kitchen to get fixed due to a pipe bust. Man I wanted souls food so bad today and god blessed me to finding his truck on yelp and going I am so glad... EVERYONE MUST SUPPORT THIS MAN. You will not be disappointed. Thank you King... I'll be back soon.

Came to a community event and a couple Soul food vendors was out. Kings plate was the only that was open and ready for business. To top that off, the wings texture , the flavor, the crust was delicious. The hot links was hands down the best I had in Phoenix Arizona. One last thing, the macaroni and cheese, folk don't be knowing what they be doing. Kings plate!? They got the juice, the ticket, secret sauce. Will definitely visit again!

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS…read more Mrs. Whites Golden Rule Cafe 808 E Jefferson Phoenix, 85034 The epitome of soul food in Arizona! Home cooking that is so good you want to cry! I've eaten at Mrs. Whites for many years, and every time I want to go back to real southern cooking this is where I come to. Companion and I dropped in for lunch, and there was so much food that we skipped dinner. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken. 3 pan fried pieces that are juicy and golden brown. For sides I had mixed greens with hot sauce and mac and cheese. The collards were tender and delicious and the mac and cheese didn't even come close fo K..... Dinner. It was loaded with cheese and truly memorable. It also came with a large piece of homemade cornbread with lots of butter on top. Companion ordered the child's plate which is 2 pieces of chicken and and 2 sides. Ordered were cole slaw and mac and cheese. Because we are both diabetics, we both ordered unsweetened tea, but I really wanted a glass of the sweet tea which you get all through the south. We had planned on getting the wonderful peach cobbler for dessert, but we were so full that it would have been impossible to get down. Other items on the menu are smothered pork chops, fried catfish, and chicken fried steak as well as a host of other items. The restaurant recently underwent a complete renovation and it is really nice inside. Lest I forget to mention it, This is a small place that has been here for as long as I can remember. I came to Phoenix in 1965 and have eaten there since then. Highly recommended. 4 stars

Popped in before a Suns game, an easy walk past Chase Field. It was good to get away from the usual pregame options. The place was clean and inviting, and had a little bit of a "back in time" feel without being dated. Quickly and pleasantly welcomed and seated. Then came the hard part, making choices. We had fried chicken and fried catfish, with sides of Mac and Cheese, macaroni salad (yep, Mac two ways), greens and mashed potatoes with gravy. All were great, obviously home made from longstanding recipes. Especially into the greens, which were bursting with flavor. The catfish was delish, and my wife called the fried chicken the best she ever had. Saved room for peach cobbler, which was served smoking hot. The perfect sweet end to the savory meal. Next time I'm all in on pork chops, which looked amazing. And we will come on a Sunday, the only day dressing is available as a side option. If you're looking for a meal that feels like a friend had you over for supper, go here! Thanks Mrs. White's family!

I was shocked to find out that Missy's has been open since Jan! This is a hidden gem on the south side! Missy's is on the corner of 16th and southern in the smaller street side plaza - the location is a walk up window (I knew immediately I was in for a treat) The lady and gentlemen that greeted me at the window were extremely nice and welcoming and let me know all about the menu. Not sure if they were the owners or not, but I appreciated the friendly service. The menu is robust with a late night weekend special menu (which includes oxtails til 2am) but I had a 1 track mind: CATFISH! The 3 pieces I got were large and automatically came with hush puppies (yum) and a side. The food was done is about 15 minutes but it didn't seem that long - the catfish was piping HOT! I was trying to eat it and cool it off at the same time, I made it all the way home and the food was still hot which I really appreciated. The catfish was crunchy/crispy on the outside and super flaky on the inside- perfect! Both my husband and 13 month old daughter wouldn't keep their hands out my platter! My husband liked Missy's catfish over the food truck that we used to always go to. I already started telling people about Missy's and we will definitely be back!

The space has a classy, mid-upscale vibe definitely giving "bougie" in the best way while still feeling comfortable and inviting. We visited on a Saturday, and the live music was phenomenal. The musicians played a great mix of current songs, which created an amazing atmosphere throughout the restaurant. The staff greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home. I also loved the thoughtful touch of offering personal handheld fans to guests if they got warm. The bar was another standout. I really appreciated that the cocktails are crafted using African or Black-owned liquors, making the drink menu feel unique and intentional. If you don't drink alcohol, they also have a wonderful selection of mocktails and natural teas, so there are plenty of options for everyone. The food took a little longer than expected to come out, but nothing unreasonable. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair for the quality and amount of food you receive. We ordered the oxtails, jollof rice, broccoli, peri-peri chicken, and pineapple chicken. Everything was delicious, especially the oxtails and jollof rice. My only recommendation is to be prepared if you're not a fan of spicy food the piri piri chicken definitely has some heat. Since they don't offer ranch or similar cooling sauces, just keep that in mind when ordering. Overall, Latha offers more than just great food it's a full experience. Between the beautiful atmosphere, live music, welcoming hospitality, thoughtfully curated drinks, and flavorful African cuisine, it's a restaurant I would absolutely recommend. I can't wait to come back and try more from the menu!

I read the fried chicken is popular so I ordered the 4 piece version with sides of rice and gravy along with some maque choux and a biscuit for $21. The food arrived about 15 minutes later on a big plate. The chicken pieces had a dark brown crust and were quite good tasting. Not too crusty and with hot and flavorful meat on the bone. The rice and light brown gravy were good and the maque choux looked different from the South Louisiana variety but I still enjoyed it. It had corn, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers in it. I'll bet few locals have ever heard of it! The tablevservice was good too. This was a lot of food and I didn't finish it all but it was all good tasting and very close to real southern style cooking. I would be happy to return.

This what we ordered: Brisket Hot links Pork Belly Pork Ribs BBQ Beans Collard Greens BBQ Spaghetti Hot Water Cornbread Cedar Lane Lemonade Everything was flavored nicely. I thought the beans would have a bit more flavor, but I've never been a bean kind of gal. You will need to try it for yourself! The Hot water Cornbread was great. The texture was a little gritty, but still yummy. The shape is what caught me by surprise. It was round and flat almost like a pancake. The service was outstanding. Friendly and hardworking. The food came out in good time. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Has a warm but rustic vibe. I would most definitely revisit this spot whenever in the area.

It's an active neighborhood, what can you say? Neither here nor there, but the ephemera that adorns the walls is different than what you might find at a soul food place. It's decidedly more American as such. Speaking of the signage: one of them reminds you that bbq is not fast food and that a patient temperament is of the utmost. Yet, the smoker ain't going. The Cue been cooked. As for the sides, no one does greens and Mac n cheese a la minute. So if everything is prepared, why do I have to wait? I kid. I jest. The girl behind the counter was all by herself. Gave great recommendations. And even gifted me a bottle of water On this visit, brisket was sold out. Late afternoon: makes sense. They had pulled pork. Bites of the smokerd rendered fat therein had the effect of rocket fuel. Pork belly was even porkier than the aforementioned shredded butt. Ribs pretty good too. Mac: ultra cheesy. Pot liquor from the collard greens came in clutch for hydrating the more dry pieces of pork.
