Lindsay went above and beyond to help me pass smog this year. The first time, she told me that I would fail if I had a check engine light on. (Well, DUH, but I thought it was a minor thing). We went home and replaced some thermo sensor, and that took care of the check engine light, but now some other monitor wouldn't pass. Lindsay told me to take the vehicle for a drive -- to Redding or Corning, but not to exceed 55 mph. Third try was a charm. She comes across as a little tough, but she was exceedingly kind to this grey haired ol' lady on crutches, and they have my business for good! read more

I have tried to set up an appointmet several times and when I got there, they were not even open that day, plus there were other customers there waiting as well. They won't even call you back if you try to contact them about it. They do this all the time, so They will never get my service again. The best place to go is Antelope Automotive.After wasting my time sitting at a place with no service, I decided to drive down the street to Antalope Automotive and they took me right in and I was done and out the door in 15 minutes. Been coming to smogman for years. Needed my work van smogged and couldn't get registered until did I so. Made appointment on Monday for Wednesday at 2:00. Showed up doors are locked, and they won't answer phone. I am sitting in his parking lot writing this review hoping he shows up or at least calls me back. He has always been hard to get ahold of on phone.(understandable I think works alone.) I had to call 3 times to get ahold of somebody on Monday. Anyways i have been here now for 15 minutes called twice and left 1 message. Very disappointed. Very bad business. I pulled in to Smog Man shop, was met by the owner I assume, he proceeded to yell at me, "hey, don't park here, it's not working" not understanding what he was talking about, I first ask where would like me to park, he said "how about your own driveway" This guy was the rudes person I'd ever encountered, talked to 3 other shops and told them what happened, they each told me of other people's negative experiences with The Smog Man. Went in for smog check, this guy told me my O.B.D. would not communicate with his machine, and failed my car. I told him, my car has no problem, it only has 53,000 miles on it. He said He could fix the problem, but it would be expensive, or I would have to take it to a dealer to have the O B D repaired or changed before it will pass smog. I was out the money for a failed smog too. I made an appointment in Chico Nissan and Hyundai,, the closest Dealer for my car from Red Bluff. After going over my car, the Dealer said there is nothing wrong with the car, no issue with the O B D. My car's O B D did communicate well and no reason for it not to pass smog, so the dealer did the smog, and I was on my way home. Now I had spent money at 2 places to get a simple smog and had to drive to Chico as well, because Smog Man failed my car for no reason. I filed a complaint with BAR of the State of California. After BAR official did his investigation, Smog man, mailed a refund of the charges back to me. So when you feel someone did you wrong or you feel they tried to take advantage of you, you can fight back, and warn others as well. Anyone who thinks I'm full of Baloney, like the other person who stated that about another person's review should take the time to check the records of complaints with BAR. My husband stopped in to see if we needed an appointment to have our car smogged. He was standing in the doorway when the owner, who was standing more than 6 feet away, wearing no mask, and had another customer inside with him wearing no mask, asked him what he needed, my husband asked from where he was standing if we could get our car smogged that day. The owners reply was, no we needed an appointment, then said "and I'll need you to step out of my office because your not wearing a mask". Although, there was another man who was well inside the shop office not wearing a mask who seemed to be a friend of the owner and the owner not wearing one makes me rethink the hypocrisy going around these days. I am a business owner myself in the same town and totally understand and support each business owners right to ask their customers to either wear masks or not but I also believe you need to follow your own rules and should be the same for everyone across the board. We have decided to never give The Smog-man our business and will tell all of our friends and families the same. If I could give zero stars I would just because of the poor customer service! read more

Made an appointment for 1 pm and got there at 12:30 they told us to come back at one because they were going to take a lunch break. Called us at 12:45 saying he wasn't feeling good. Told them to reschedule and told us they don't know when they'll open again! Not the first time they have done this! Zero stars! This guy is a scam, my car passed smog and he said he "knew my catalytic converter was tampered with"! I went to another place and got my cert. I noticed almost everyone there was getting smogged for a 2nd time so this guy can make more money. STAY AWAY!! read more

Took my 2000 ford f250 in for a smog. Right off the bat the lady behind the counter had a bad attitude. Then the smog tech started questioning the CARB compliant banks power system that has been installed on my truck for years. Was rudely asked to get my truck out of the way when i tried to call banks so they could explain it is 100% compliant. Decided to go somewhere else so went to pay. My family lost everything in the north compex fires last year so i mentioned I hated seeing $50 wasted. Lady behind the counter told me to take my attitude out of her office. I mentioned that she had an attitude the second i walked in. She then threw my debit card at me and told me to get out of her office. I asked for my registration paperwork, and was told no, get out of her office or she would call the police on me. I did absolutely nothing to warrant being threatened with police. If it wasn't so hot, and i wasnt so tired from work, i wpuld have sat and let her call them. I broke no laws and simply wanted my registration. These guys are an obvious scam. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Will drive the extra hour to Oroville and use an honest smog, they are friendly, and professional. read more

A big fat ZERO.... Completely rude and takes advantage of people! I went to one smog place and they told me to drive around for a bit sense I just had my car worked on and the battery needed to reset. drove a lot and then went to smog man in red bluff sense I was in the area. He tested it, charged me, then said I need to drive it more!!!! What like why couldn't he tell me that in the first place like the other guy???? I called him after I left saying I felt I was taken advantage of and he just laughed! I hope they go out of business due to them taking advantage and rude people. read more

This guy is honest & works to save you money. He's tweaked my crappy old van into passing for years for & always charges me for test & cert only. Shocking reviews are fun to leave (Some people seem to leave a lot of them) but they can hurt a good business & steer ppl away from a good service. Dudes, and Dudets. This is not a place to get your smog done, unless like me you do not want to get a pass on smog, from a cig lighter fuse needing to get replaced. When I went to pay for my non pass, he told me it was just probably a fuse, I ask how I could figure out what one, he said go to school get an education or take it to smog station like him, I ask how much would he charge for that, he said $80.....now because ieven though I k ew I had a fuse out on my cig lighter, I'm thinking bigger, I mean why would my truck not pass just because of cig lighter, Right??? Went to DMV, told them story of what happened showed the paper work, all emmision passed, they were going to over ride his rescission, but he failed to put vehicle so code on paperwork or computer .... The one t say I went to Sys auto in Los molinos, where I live, ken one of the people who works there put my truck on card reader, sure enough card reader didn't register, when I explain to him what happened, and that the only fuse I knew I needed was cig lighter fuse, he put one in, and problem solved.....I called smog man, talked to Kevin, said problem solved can I come back to get certificate, he said it would cost me another $20 on top of certificate to get it....so smog over all cost me $107 because of cig lighter fuse. I did mention to Kevin that I'm on fixed I come, unhe said that had nothing to do with him, if I wanted my certificate had to pay him extra $20.... unless you want someone to say derogatory insults to you, and be treated with no respect as customer, all my emmision passed, my O.B.R. failed, it had nothing to do with smog, was told by D.M.V that if he would of included vehicle code on paper work, they would of passed me....had to take it back to him, didn't have money to get another smog station to pass me so paid the extra $20....today got my pass, got my tags, was told by DMV that it was crazy for him not to pass from obd.......fuses missing, had nothing to do with emmision, when I called automotive business bureau they agreed..... read more
