Prices of smog checks in general have definitely gone up since around 2012. A smog check back in those days only cost around forty dollars whereas now after coupons at most places cost around sixty. The price has surged even more so than restaurant food prices over the years, and I'm not sure what justifies this as labor has increased across the board in all industries. Nevertheless, came to Green Star as I had come here before a few years back and they had been fast and efficient. This is still the case. After the coupon, the test came out to be around sixty dollars. The technician was fast and was done in approximately 20 minutes. Prices here appear reasonable after the coupon. California law requires smog check centers to post their prices in a conspicuous manner for the public to view, but it's difficult reviewing prices and comparing between centers when most centers have no pictures of their prices on yelp. read more

On November 15th I got my same day smog appointment with the guys. Which I would say are more than friendly and helpful compared to my other auto mechanic and smog test technician interactions. So I am just posting this review, since I needed a reprint of my smog check result, so I can sell my car without smogging it a second time within the 60 day period one can reuse a smog test result. And they were right on the spot saying I could come any time tomorrow with my VIN and plate number to get a re-print of the smog result. 5* for responsiveness from me and being punctual. Got the yelp deal, $41 for a $78 smog check. I did still have to pay the $8.75 for the state certificate. But you get a full smog check and certificate for right under $50, which is a steal. This place used to be the AAAAA smog check, same guy works there though. I been here at least four other times, same guy every time. Can't really say too much more about this place. Instead of leaving a car and a place for four hours but I figure out your small check for you, you're usually out of there in about 10 minutes. don't expect a lot of service here, you're not gonna get any but they are really really fast. read more

There is seriously a draught of solid, honest, affordable businesses in this area. Particularly with smog checks, it's a godsend to find one that isn't trying to screw you over. After finding Green Star today, I won't be going anywhere else. Drove up, walked in, walked back out in under half an hour. They sent my Inspection Report to the DMV, and I was on my way. Executive summary: Quick, painless smog check...before the groceries spoil. Detail: So one of my vehicles got the registration renewal requiring smog check at any station. And my other car got one requiring a STAR check - make sure you read your DMV notice carefully, because this was a new distinction I wasn't aware of. I found Green Star on Yelp, and purchased the Yelp discount deal too ($41 for a $78 smog check). That seems pretty inexpensive to me, although admittedly I haven't priced them out for a long time. Drove it over to them later that day. They were fast, friendly, no-nonsense. I had actually bought a load of food and groceries from Costco and it was all in the back of my SUV when I pulled in. Green Star must have taken all of 15 minutes to get me back on the road, smog certified, and back home to put my groceries in the fridge. I used to have to wait a couple hours to get the car smogged - knowing these guys can do it in 15 minutes is a beautiful thing. The fact that they're also a STAR station just seals the deal for me. This is the best (and only) place that you should go to get your smog check! The service is amazing and the price is literally almost a third from one of the quotes I received from another place. You can just walk-in, no appointment necessary, and it's very fast-mine took about 20 minutes total. They are very friendly and best of all, want to save you money. I went there the first time and they said that there were some issues with my car and they didn't want me to fail the smog check, so I should check them out and return to them and they will hold my coupon. Well, guess what, I checked the (minor) issues and returned the next week and passed the smog check. I only paid about $8.95 for the smog certificate so with the Yelp coupon it came to be under $40-unbelievable! Won't go to another place for a smog check again and you shouldn't either! Went there for smog he told me $60 for my 2005 Corolla, then I mention coupon and he said it was coupon price. Then I gave him $100 for smog and gave me back $30 which would of made the smog $70, he told me in the beginning $60 for everything but still charged me $70. I've been patronizing this business for at least 20 years, even before the current name/owners, when it was called "AAAAA Smog Check." I always came here, preferring this place, because there was an exceptional employee who worked here all that time who did the smog checks. His customer service skills were excellent and he was consistently helpful and friendly, so much so that I always wanted to come back. I stopped by earlier this week and was surprised/saddened to see he's no longer employed. Unfortunately, it shows. Prices have always been reasonable here--my last visit with the same vehicle cost $80. The gentleman who helped me this time was polite, not rude in the least; however, he quoted me $150 to do a smog check on a 1997 vehicle. I was stunned at such a ridiculously expensive price, told him I'd been coming here since it was "AAAAA," then asked if there were any coupons or deals. He answered, "No," despite the fact that there is a $25 coupon online and a separate offer on the Yelp site that says if you do a Yelp check-in, they will give you $20 off. When pressed about the coupon, he told me it was only good for vehicles newer than 2014, although that condition does not appear on the coupon. Due to the excessive cost, I declined his quote, thanked him for his time, and told him that I would check prices elsewhere. I feel that a business should be more supportive of long-term customers who have been coming there for two decades. Instead of rewarding me for my loyalty, they did the opposite. I ended up getting the smog check done across town for a total cost of $88.20. I hesitated to leave this negative review, because I loved this place, but I feel that I should let people know that it's best to shop around before coming here. You may save money--I saved $61.80 by doing so. In the past, I would've consistently given them 5 stars, but they only get one now after my disappointing visit. These guys are a gem in the rough. I had taken my cars here multiple times for a smog and they had me in and out quickly. They had given me 1/2 hour quote to wait, but had my cars signed and ready for easy DMV clearing for the paperwork. They also gave me a small discount for being a repeat customer. Despite the spartan decor, and ample coupons, we collectively agreed that AAAAA was a good, semi-quick, and reliable place to smog our mini-fleet of automobiles... I called this place, based on the Yelp reviews, and I must say that I was NOT disappointed. First off, I told them I found them on Yelp, and was given the $31 yelp deal. I did have to pay an extra $10 because I drive an older vehicle. I went in on a Friday, and didn't have to wait long. Unfortunately, my car did not pass the smog check on Friday, but was told that I would get a free re-test, only having to pay for the certificate. Not a bad deal at all. After being turned away at D&H because they were on lunch, I hopped on Yelp and found the deal for Green Star. Even though D&H is closer to the DMV, Green Star is three minutes down the street and will treat you much better. I was "one of those people" who went to the DMV thinking that I didn't need a smog check and it turns out I did. If you are one of those people, this review is for you. I ended up at Green Star right around noon on a Thursday. The guy working was extremely polite and although he appeared to be the only one there, he helped the customer before me and myself within 30 minutes. He kept me informed of how long the wait would be. He was efficient and friendly, and valued my time. We were the only ones there and a nice man came out to greet us. We signed some paperwork and he promised to be done soon. 20 -25 minutes later he was done with BOTH of our cars. And then he actually apologized for running behind because he was the only one there. LOL. We told him that we didn't think he was taking too long at all. We bought the Yelp deal which saved us about $40 - awesome deal! The waiting area is nice and large with, to our surprise, a wide variety of magazines to choose from. I decided to have my truck smogged by Green Star Smog because of the combination of good reviews and their awesome Yelp deal. I was not disappointed! Not only did the Yelp deal make it the cheapest smog check I've ever received, it was also the fastest. I arrived at about 4:50 pm on a weekday hoping that I wasn't too late to get my truck tested that evening (many shops close at 5pm but this shop is open until 6pm). There was one vehicle being serviced before mine and I spent no more than 25 minutes at the shop. The gentleman at the counter was helpful and friendly. He let me know about how long I would have to wait and offered me a beverage. He also mentioned that they would honor the special deal anytime so you can mention it for a discount. I went in today without an appointment. There was no wait. Eugene, behind the desk was very helpful. I told him about the coupon there website, and then mentioned the yelp deal here. He went and talked to the manager and it was all set. I wandered off to go see a friend that works in the area. Came back, it did take a little longer than the stated ten minutes and there waiting room is a bare concrete room that consists of four benches and a koi pond/ fountain so it was a long wait, but I didn't care when the next thing happened. Smog checks are very mundane things. And every other time I have had it done the situation is as follows: the guy comes in from the garage, tells me the car passed, gives me a paper with a bunch of numbers that I can't understand, and then takes my money. Eugene, on the other hand, came in with the paper. Made it clear that I passed, but told me I might have a problem. He then went through all of the numbers with me and told me that it I was burning more of one thing than it should. Not enough to fail but more than average, and unless I took care of it, I probably would not pass again. It was that little extra that I found to go above and beyond. And that takes the place from the 3-4 star range to the 5 star range. One thing of note: it is only a test station (which is why he couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong) but it also means it is a little pricey. Look at their website, and check back here on yelp for some deals, and be sure to mention them. The guys are laid back and will work with you, if your nice. All around a great experience. read more

Came in to get smogged and off the bat was greeted by friendly staff members, 5 stars for service an price. Was skeptical at first bc of a shouting angry customer when i drove in but after hearing from the customer that he had after market parts, as so do i, come to find out his did not have carb legal stickers, asked staff if they could check to see if mine was legal an was assured they were. Staff here made me feel welcomed even through the situation took tge extra step to check my car for proper stickers n everything needed. Def. It was fast enough. open at 5pm on a Saturday, and my car passed smog (a real miracle, I tell ya!), so it does the trick. You can definitely find cheaper deals in the area, though, if you look on PennySaver, Valuepak, and other BS that gets sent to your mailbox. I had a extremely hectic month and was already a week late on mailing my registration, so I just needed to get it done, even if I was paying $25 or more than I should, even with them taking off $25 (or maybe $15) off for checking in on yelp. read more
