Smoked and smashed was super quick to serve us and the smash burger lived up to the hype. Yummy!!!!!!!!

We came here on a whim. We are from California and are visiting on vacation. We decided to take a break from Canada's Wonderland for lunch and stumbled upon this place. It was kind of hidden in a business district, and we weren't sure driving up. I didn't like that the drinks are bottles from a refrigerated display instead of fountain drinks, but all was forgiven the second I bit into my smash burger. Oh my goodness. I'm mourning that I live on the other side of the continent because my burger just melted in my mouth. It was, hands down, the BEST BURGER I have ever eaten. It has now surpassed my favorite lamb burger joint in CA. (And they have a lamb burger here too, btw). My husband ordered a smoked brisket poutine (trying to get a last poutine in before we fly home tomorrow), and he said it was good, but it wasn't as good as my burger. Wow the name of the restaurant really suits it. The Rib Sandwich had a strong smokey flavour and the meat was so tender! The smash burger was good too. We also had the Reuben and a Brisket poutine. The poutine and rib sandwich were our favourites. Was a little on the pricey side but quality was good. Lots of seating and cool vibes (love the Anthony Bourdain poster) with 90s hip hop music playing. First time giving Smoked & Smashed a try. The name is catchy and definitely fits the vibe. It's right in the neighborhood, though their hours are more limited than your usual spots. I really love the atmosphere they've created which has thoughtful seating, great decor, and a niche, cozy feel. For my first visit, I went with their Smash Burger ($9.95) and upgraded to a double for about $4 more. The pricing is pretty reasonable compared to other smash/gourmet burger places. The burger features dry-aged, house-ground Canadian beef chuck, smashed thin and crispy, topped with cheddar, S&S smash sauce, S&S pickles, caramelized onions, and shredded lettuce on a freshly baked potato roll. The bun isn't the most "pillowy" soft I've had, with a slightly brioche-like top, but still delicious and elevated. The seasoning on the edges was a bit salty for me, but once everything came together with the bun and condiments, it worked well. Simple, classic, and satisfying. Service was friendly, and there's ample parking. They offer online ordering, but I recommend going in person for the full experience and to pick up their stamp card (buy 10 burgers, get one free, and yes, you can redeem it for a double). I've wanted to try this place for the longest time and finally got to come last week. I wish they had longer opening hours, but it is what it is. So, I ordered a Reuben sandwich which I was craving for the longest time, a smoked meat poutine and some kind of bottled juice. The total bill came to over $52, a little on the high side of prices. I had the Reuben. The smoked meat was amazing with just the right amount of saltiness BUT it was seriously lacking sauerkraut and more cheese. But it is what it is. My partner had the drink ($4.99???) and the smoked meat poutine. It was a great meal as I was told All in all, it was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed it But I probably won't be back as it's pretty pricy and their hours are not conducive to me driving and fitting into my schedule. They open late at 11am and close early at 4pm. It's like I have to fit them into my calendar. No thanks. All in all they still get an average of 3 stars because of their food. read more

Unless I have time off from work and hanging out near my home area, Smoked and Smashed just isn't an option since their business hours pretty much is lunch time plus a bit of the afternoon, Monday to Saturday. After giving them a try, I realized it's not a big deal since it's just another smash burger place. To be honest, I actually enjoyed their fries more than their burger. First off the fries portion was huge, but they do charge $6-$7. It's fair. I like the fact they use potatoes from local farms, but maybe I got fries at the bottom of the heap, because I was left with a bag full of broken and tiny morsels of fries. Due to that, it was difficult and time consuming to eat. The smash burger was disappointing. While the bun was solid, the beef patty was way too salty and they overdid the browning of the corners as those parts were getting overly crunchy. The sauce is really what did the burger in. The sauce actually made things more salty. Instead the purpose it should have served was to add a bit of sweetness and acidity to it. I'm not even a pickle guy, but I thought the pickle was way too thinly sliced for it to do its job. On the contrary I'm a sautéed onion guy, but I don't think it did much for the burger. Maybe they just didn't add enough to matter. Anyhow, service was friendly, but it is a fast food style place, so expect to serve yourself. I was very tempted to order the brisket sandwich instead, but opted for the more economical choice. Maybe I'll give that a try next time, but considering the limited business hours and a so so first impression, I'm not sure when that would be. read more

I miss the McRib! I'm not a fan of poutine meaning I have not had one I absolutely wanted to have again. But dam, putting this smoked meat over poutine makes it the best ever! There is so much smokey, but not overpowering flavor, in the brisket I found myself eating this with the cold fries later in the day and it was still awesome. Eating cold fries is definitely not something I generally do or say but this smoked brisket was that great. Finally this portion was enough for a meal. Smoked and Smashed's rendition of the McRib sandwich is not spot on, it's better! Tender real pork rib meat, not processed molded, with the bones removed, thinly sliced pickles and fresh sliced onions layered on top with the most perfect tangy BBQ sauce. I wish I had brought back a few of these back with me to the states. These need to be available on GoldBelly! Get here as early as you can because the secret is definitely out and they are selling out before lunch service is done. I did overhear staff saying they are upping production, hopefully there is no degradation in quality. There is absolutely no room to sit inside but there are outdoor picnic tables nearby. read more

January 16, 2024: I found this place on instagram. These food bloggers are full of crap! This is a joke & is/was a 2* at best. They were completely disorganized. Food was scattered all over the place & I waited 25 minutes for my food, only to be disappointed. The food LOOKED good but it wasn't that good at all. The fries ($5.95) were tasteless & so was the coleslaw. I had the coleslaw off-sandwich because I like to taste the authentic food & not to be masked by dressings & such. The smoked beef brisket sandwich ($20.95) was small. So small that I ate it easily & was left wanting additional food. The BBQ'd beef used for the sandwich was sous vide & didn't appear BBQ'd at all. Meaning it was precooked & heated in a bag in hot water. That was disappointing. I'm not even sure if the BBQ sauce used on the sandwich was house made. There is ZERO ambiance and there's no seating or bathrooms, just an open raw kitchen. The person that looked after me couldn't get the debit machine working & there was no cash register to give change for my cash payment. She was very nice to speak with, however. At their present configuration, I would not recommend this spot. read more

I got wind of this place a few days ago and because I live in the area, I wanted to check it out. It's clear that it's still early days for this place. There are some gaps in service and they are still working out the kinks. These are all expected when starting out so I'm not too concerned about it. The staff were friendly and eager to meet the demand which there is clearly a lot by looking at the line during lunch. The food is clearly made with love and passion, once they are up and running smooth, it's clear this place will be unstoppable. I had the following: The Reuben, The Smash Burger and the Smoked Brisket Sandwich. Was it a lot, yes. But I couldn't say no to any of them to fully get a hold of what they are capable of. The meal was great. I found the seasoning on the saltier side at times, but that is more of a preference thing than anything. The fillings were spot on and the cook on the meats were perfect, as were the sauces and sides that they each came with. The restaurant does a wonderful job on branding and it's clear they came out with a well formed concept that is engaging for consumers. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. It's rare to find a place that holds passion and good food in the same place. I wish them all the success as they deserve it wholeheartedly. Try to order in advance online to beat the lunch rush! Coming in at noon could result in a bit of a wait. A worthwhile wait, but a wait none the less. Keep up the great work! read more

Omg the smoked beef brisket sandwich! Melt in your mouth tender and delicious, even after the drive from the restaurant home. Worth taking the time to go there on the few days they are open. I also got the house salad which was a huge portion with fresh crispy lettuce, and yummy dressing. read more

Their pulled pork sandwich and pulled pork poutine was my favourite. My sister said their brisket sandwich does not skimp on their meats and my husband said his smash burger was Pro tip: Order online the day of. I tried to order the night before. They apparently had a power outage/something went wrong with their ordering system and the owner canceled/refunded my order without my knowing. Luckily, when I arrived, there was not a long line and waited about 10 mins to get my order fresh. Ambiance: they are a takeout spot and quite smokey when they get barbecuing. Rating 3.5/5. The brisket sandwich is amazing. The rib sandwich is mid and the pulled pork is mid. Did not try the Ruben sandwich as it was sold out or the smash burger. The service was good and ambiance - it's pick up or sit down across the street on patio furniture... seating opens up quickly after 12:30pm. I would recommend coming here for the brisket-based items but overall i had higher expectations. read more

Amazing! The hype is real! Staff went out of their way to chat and make me and my family feel welcome. We tried their burger and chicken sandwich along with an order of fries. It was the first time all day my kids were quiet. When they finished eating, they said it was the best smash burger and chicken sandwich they had in a long time. This is saying a lot because we just came back from LA. Whatever you do, make sure to add fries to your order. They are unreal!! I'm totally shocked at any negative review for this place. It's a take out restaurant and the food is one step above top notch. The fries are awesome. Reuben is ridiculous. Pulled pork has such a good Smokey flavour. Double smash burgers are just the way anyone would imagine heaven would be like. Portions are plentiful! I've been there many times, to say the least and still working my way through the menu. But I just had write this after seeing anything but 5 stars from everyone who have consumed their creations. Been to this spot a few times and love to see a small business actually putting in the work to improve every aspect of how they operate. We were ordering from Smoke & Smashed when they were selling out of a home kitchen and can't imagine what it's like to open a new restaurant / takeout spot in today's climate. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE, MASSIVE and obviously made from passion and love. You can see from the owner Jason who's there day in and day out just how passionate he is about the food he's making (and sometimes on his spicy social media rants) if I know anything about the food service industry, it's that have to be a little bit crazy to do it work in it and be the best. If you're looking for a fancy glass of wine and a 1 bite tasting menu this place isn't for you but if you're looking for some of the best sandwiches in the world you've found the right place!!!! The first time I went there I got the burgers and fries. The place is basically a hole in the wall. No nonsense. So right away I knew it just had to be good. Or maybe I was just hopping because it it's only a 202 minute drive from my house. I told the guy making the food that I drove 20 minutes to get here. He seemed so surprised that I drove 20 minutes for a burger and fries. Hahahah later found out it was the owner. NICEST GUY THAT YOU'LL EVER MEET SLINGING BURGERS AND FRIES! I would drive an hour and a half for his burgers and fries. Next couple of days past by and I went back for the brisket truly outstanding. Then when he started making his smoked meat. As far as I'm concerned it was a drop the mike moment. Sooooo goood!! Oh and I just had to try his riff on the McRib. Really really enjoyed that. There is not one thing that I can fault him on.
