Slight downgrade but no cause for alarm-- more of a caution…read more They've been one of my favorite restaurants from my first meal here, and they still are, but they've slipped a bit. The chicken is often spectacular but just as often only good, sometimes coming out dry, sloppy, or much saltier (as with some other dishes) than the time before. The service, which was once a hallmark, has tailed off as well. Slightly less experienced, slightly less friendly, and sometimes oblivious or rude. Nothing close to a dealbreaker, but noticeable. -- Wings: They now have four varieties, and I've tried all four. The newest concoction, Makham Glazed Wings (tamarind fish sauce caramel with fried garlic), has great crunch and dazzling, complex flavor. All four are worth trying, so I rotate with each visit. The sauces are top notch. -- Chicken Sandwich: At its best, absolutely elite, from the soft bun to the crunchy shell to the juicy meat to the spicy and velvety additions. But once a little undercooked and once a little dry-- still good; just not great on those occasions. A lunchtime must. -- Cabbage Salad: Still delicious, but hoo boy, salty. -- Crispy Mushroom Waterfall: My wife enjoys it but has noticed significant shrinkage. -- Brussels Sprouts: Lots of flavor here and good crunch. -- Moo Ping (pork skewers): Still delicious, but down from 4 skewers to 3, smaller, and less glaze and spice. Had I not had their off-the-charts-spectacular earlier servings, I might think the same now. Still good, just not as good. Crispy Gai comes through often enough and I'm still coming back. They're still sometimes spectacular. It's just that it's not dependably so and they might have already peaked.

I had to go to the host and ask her if she could bring us plates and get our waitress, but then I noticed the plates on the shelf and was able to self serve. The hostess was able to get us the sour cream. I'm not a monster so I still tipped 20% but I low key wish the tip went to the hostess instead.

Smoked Windham presents itself as a welcoming establishment with a focus on hearty smoked meats and a cozy atmosphere. Making it a potentially enjoyable place for a casual meal with friends or family. However, my experience at Smoked Windham was marred by several concerning issues, particularly regarding their claims of being gluten-free. Despite prominently advertising gluten-free options on their menu, it became evident that these claims were misleading. The staff assured us on multiple occasions that they had a dedicated gluten-free fryer, a claim dating back to when the restaurant was named Bingas and made sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, this turned out to be false. This time, a server did inform us about the cross-contamination risk, but we had never been told this before, despite always being very upfront about the gluten condition. This misrepresentation is not only deceptive but also dangerous for individuals with celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivities. The lack of transparency and adherence to proper gluten-free practices raises serious questions about their commitment to customer safety. It would be more accurate and responsible for Smoked Windham to label their options as "gluten sensitive" (GS) rather than "gluten free" (GF) to prevent potential health risks. It was apparent that the management pressures customers into leaving positive reviews. This behavior is both unethical and reflects poorly on the establishment's integrity. One particularly disturbing instance involved a management response to an honest review online, where the reviewer was belittled for pointing out inaccuracies and safety concerns. Such a response is unprofessional and unacceptable, further diminishing trust in the establishment. They even had the nerve to suggest she was 'cured' because she trusted them and assumed issues she was having wasn't from Smoked/Bingas. Overall, while Smoked Windham might attract diners with its appealing menu and ambiance, those requiring genuinely gluten-free meals should proceed with caution. The combination of false advertising, lack of proper food safety practices, and unprofessional customer interactions makes it difficult to recommend this restaurant. read more

We used to frequent this place due to its extensive gluten-free options and a separate fryer. However, during our recent visit, we were informed that they no longer maintain a separate fryer; instead, they prepare gluten-free dishes using gluten-free ingredients. It's important to note that once gluten-free items are fried in a non-dedicated fryer, they can no longer be considered gluten-free. I recommend updating the menu to reflect this change, indicating that the options are gluten-sensitive rather than gluten-free. This change is disappointing, as it limits the choices for individuals with gluten intolerance to primarily salads. * Edited - We had been informed on several occasions that there was a separate fryer, which is why we chose to dine here. This was the first time someone told us otherwise. While I understand that achieving 100% gluten-free is difficult, I trusted your establishment based on the previous information about the separate fryer. Allergies are not always obvious, but labeling something as gluten-free should mean it is truly gluten-free. The term "Gluten Sensitive" would have been more accurate. If this had been clarified in our earlier visits, I would have made different choices. Despite this, the Caesar salad, minus the croutons, was delicious. However, telling someone their allergy is cured due to misinformation is insulting and shows a lack of seriousness about their health concerns. I've been a regular for years, the death wrap with Chernobyl literally out of this world and delicious every time.Only place in town with sauces hot enough for my liking, and don't even get me started on the blanch! The Pollo Sinaloense - a thinly pounded and breaded chicken breast topped with chorizo and cheese - was unique and delicious, and nicely balanced with a little salad and Spanish rice. The restaurant itself is bigger than it looks from the outside and the booths are nice and comfy. Overall, this place exceeded our expectations. They seem to have a great happy hour and a huge menu, so we can't wait to return to try some more!
