When we moved to the Coachella Valley in 2022, we tried looking for good BBQ and were really disappointed by the local offerings. We tried about every place we could find. That search finally ended when we found Smokey Lips BBQ. Chef Adam makes the best BBQ this side of Kansas City - seriously. His food is always excellent and made with great care. Last year for Thanksgiving we ordered his smoked turkey, and we have vowed never to spend a Thanksgiving without one if we can. The only complaint I have about Smokey Lips BBQ is that I can't get it whenever we want it, which isn't really a complaint, but a compliment! But in this era, it's a nice reminder that good things take time, and some gems are meant to be savored whenever you have the chance. I recently hosted a dinner party to celebrate the milestone birthday of my friend, Barbara ... and by milestone, this birthday was 75 stone ... plus a few extra miles. So, Barbara says to me, she says, "I hear Smokey Lips Bar-B-Que is really good" and, of course, that meant "I want Smokey Lips for my birthday, and I want you to host a dinner party for 10 friends!". I knew exactly what she meant ... and who am I to deny a 75-plus-year-old friend a wish on her birthday? So, I called. I am SO happy I did! Owner | Chef Adam Morales provided excellent and QUICK communication! He truly had me excited even before I saw the menu to place my order. MAN was he patient! I must have asked Chef Morales 1,000 questions and he never became impatient; he always sounded like he was smiling on the phone. I work in guest services and have for over 40 years, so I can safely say that he "Had me at Hello"! Chef Morales arrived at my door early; it was so easy to match the friendly voice I heard on the phone with the friendliest face in the room, and he even had his friendly, clean, and very well-behaved pup riding shotgun in his delivery van, and this van was spotlessly clean! The packaging of his product alone was totally remarkable! I was so afraid that the food would need to be reheated, as I arranged delivery for half an hour prior to the arrival of my guests. Thanks to great, insulated packaging and hot boxes inside the delivery van, the selected meats and sides were steaming when opened! Smokey Lips' 100% Wood-fired and smoked meats were all completely divine! Handcrafted smoking, marinading, and grilling led to the most delicious and tender barbeques meats I have had served in the desert to this date - and I am WILD about bar-b-que and have tried every outlet around! Exceedingly tender prime brisket, dino beef ribs, pulled pork and pork ribs, sausages, and chicken - even the Chef-crafted bar-b-que sauce served on the side - were absolutely delicious! I love, love, love good BBQ and, in my opinion, there isn't really a good BBQ restaurant here in the Coachella Valley. Jackalope sucks and Babes is just so-so. @SmokeylipsBBQ is the real deal! No, there isn't a restaurant, but one can DM the owner thru Instagram and he gets back very quickly. Prices are reasonable and the food quality is superior. Ribs are tender yet firm. The rub is flavorful but not spicey, and his sauce (on the side) has just enough of sweetness and spice. Sides change weekly but this week I got mac and cheese, BBQ beans (with HUGE chunks of brisket in it!!), and potato salad. All were half orders but were the perfect size for my husband and I. With the full rack of ribs, we still have enough for another dinner. Order can with rolls and pickled jalapeños. I had ordered corn bread too and it was better than my own!! Honey sweet with a hint of vanilla. YUM. Don't forget to see what dessert is being offered too. This week there was Cookie Butter Bread Pudding made with Biscoff cookies!!! OMG!! So good. Went to bubbaz yesterday and the brisket was stiff and dry, that's my issue at a lot of bbq places actually. I've tried brisket that has been home made with the Costco smoker for 20 hours (camado joe?) and this is definitely the same quality. I ordered a lb of the prime brisket and it was the best bbq brisket I've ever purchased and was seasoned perfectly. Smokey Lips BBQ catered a birthday party I hosted in La Quinta on July 2021. Putting in the order with Adam was easy, they delivered on time, and most importantly, the food was delicious! I ordered two of their #2 trays and a rack of beef ribs and it was more than enough for my group of 20. The meats were cooked well and the sides were tasty.
