I met Mr. Roland maybe six years ago before I purchased a truck from a dealership near his shop. I wanted to have the truck checked out before I purchased it, and the auto dealer recommended Roland. I thought maybe that was a conflict of interest and wanted to take it to my own mechanic. My mechanic was backed up and couldn't get away, so I reluctantly took the truck to Mr. Roland, and I was beyond satisfied with his expertise, service, and kindness. He drove the truck and turned the steering wheel a few times while driving straight and explained why he did that. He turned down the radio to listen for any noises that may have been out of the ordinary. He did a few quick stop-and-go checks to check the brakes. He did a hands-on examination and told me that I would eventually need to have a tiny hole in the muffler repaired at some point, but it wasn't major and recommended a shop. He told me the tailgate latch was tricky to open, but showed me how to open it without problems. And he also guaranteed me that he could beat any price in town. With that being said, a year later, my GMC Terrain started stalling and shutting off whenever I would come to a complete stop, which was kind of scary. I took it to Firestone, and they placed it on a machine to diagnose it and quoted $700+ to fix the issue. I then remembered Mr. Roland and went to see him. He called one of his technicians out, and while the car was running, he asked the technician what he thought was wrong? The technician put his ear to my car to listen to it and told Mr. Roland the exact same thing that Firestone had said. That was very impressive considering they did not have to put my car on a machine to diagnose it. Mr. Roland, not knowing what Firestone had quoted me, said it would cost me about $300+ to repair it. They were kind of busy that morning, but he managed to squeeze me in. I went next door to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, made some business calls, played a few games on my phone, and did a little shopping to pass time. Within two hours, my car was ready. I've been back a few times to have my vehicles inspected and/ or repaired. In fact, it's been a while, and I need to have my GMC checked out again, so I'll be calling Mr. Roland. read more

I took my car into the shop they put the machine on it to tell them what was wrong with the codes going off . I made an appointment in June had to wait until August . I took my car and left it. I was called and told what was wrong and Given an explanation on what it would cost to fix the problem. I was okay with that. When I went to pick up my car it was more then I was told also the original problem wasn't even addressed or fixed. I paid the bill got my car and left. When I got home I looked over closely the bill. I was charged over 700.00 to change a rear oxygen sensor and 2.95 cent fuse. I then called the dealership and talked to the manager in the service department. I was told it would only take two hours max to change the oxygen sensor. Smokey Mountain Auto Service charged me for five hours of labor. I would not recommend this auto service to anyone they didn't even address what they originally told me was wrong with my car. I called them and told him that I felt he took took advantage of me . When I told him I definitely would post a review he didn't want me to do that and offered to give me back some of my money. My problem with that was if you know what you did was wrong why do it in the first place. If he can live with being dishonest I can live without the money. I made me a new friend for life on Jan 8th 2018 and his name is Roland. The power steering went out on my Ford Escape and the Ford Dealership told me it would cost around $2500 to have the steering column replaced. I'm like there is no way!! I took the vehicle to Roland to see what he thought. He took his time and looked it over and ended up the fuse was bad. So he replaced it and didn't charge me a dime and the steering was back to normal. This man saved me $2500. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this gentleman. read more

We were staying at the hotel next door to Smokey Mountain Auto Service. Our car had a flat tire and we asked them for help. Despite being really busy, they sent someone to change the tire; then diagnosed the problem as soon as we were able to bring in the car. They weren't able to fix it so they referred us to a tire shop down the road. And they charged us very little for the immediate service and attention. We are very grateful and highly recommend them for their attention and honesty. read more

Best place to take your car in Asheville, hands down! You never see local businesses last as long as Smokey Mtn Auto unless they are truly AWESOME at what they do. Smokey Mtn Auto always took care of my mom's cars when I was growing up and never overcharged or added extra fees or services. Now they take care of my cars, too. I am most thankful for their knowledge and honesty. Over the past few months I could feel my rotors were warped on my brakes. I took my car for new brakes and they told me the remaining life on my current pads and rotors then lmk that I could wait if I needed. I opted for a new set since I'm moving in a few weeks and dont want to worry about finding a new mechanic in a new city. Every time I pick my car up from them it's so happy it hums! This is an honest and efficient shop. It's the only place I have ever taken a car and been shocked at how little they charge you. They never try to add on extra parts or service that is unneccesary. My wife and i were traveling from Knoxville, TN to High Point, NC when our car broke down in Asheville, NC. The tow truck operator recommended Smokey MTN Auto Repair as being fair and honest. We decided to go with their recommendation and was towed to their shop. Unfortunately, our fuel pump was broken. The mechanic understanding the cost being prohibitive tried an alternative of hitting the pump with a mallet. It worked and the car started. He told us to bring the car straight home without stopping as I told him my son worked on cars. That's what we did and we made it safely home. We are so thankful that the mechanic/ owner understood our situation and wanted to help us. He spent time with us and charged us absolutely nothing. Thank you! I assure you if we ever break down again in Asheville, we'll be at your shop again!
