The employee deserves 10 stars. My friends and I stopped by here yesterday. It's my first time and it's their 4th time coming here. The employee was so patient helpful and professional with me as far as choosing what flavor I wanted. I bought the Western BBQ and Mango Habanero to take home and to gift it to my neighbor whom watched my fur baby while I was out having fun. It's such a cute little shack and the smell of the coffee inside smells so good! The lady working there was so sweet, funny and friendly. Enjoyed having a little chat with her about the randomest things. All the beef jerky was absolutely delicious, I think we took home four different flavors. I also bought the coconut cream coffee beans and the butterscotch coffee beans. The roast is sooooo smooth and not acidic, the flavor is absolutely fantastic. After reading some older reviews mentioning concerns about racism, my partner and I both people of color were a bit unsure about stopping in. But I'm really glad we trusted our gut, because our experience couldn't have been more positive. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and treated with kindness and respect. The person working was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about all the products, and offered us samples of anything we were curious about. We felt genuinely welcomed and appreciated as customers. Now, the snacks absolutely incredible. The beef jerky was packed with flavor and so fresh, easily some of the best we've ever had. We also picked up corn nuts that were super flavorful and crunchy, chocolate-covered peanuts that were perfectly sweet, chamoy gummy worms with just the right balance of sweet and spicy, and butter toffee peanuts that were rich and addicting. Everything we tried was top-tier. We left happy, with bags full of treats and zero regrets. So my husband and I stopped into the physical location several years ago (which was a super positive experience) and when I asked my husband for a recommendation on what jerky company he would recommend he said Smokey's. I was secretly asking him to be able to order beef jerky for him for Christmas. I then called the store to get any of their recommendations as I would be ordering online this time and it had been a while since we had their jerky. The employee who answered the phone was super friendly and did not have any specific recommendations but said if I ordered, they would send it out promptly and he would have it before Christmas. I then went to their website and the more you ordered the bigger the savings so I ended up ordering a little bit of everything. I was even able to order Ahi tuna jerky for my mother-in-law who is pescatarian. They did ship it out quickly, and my husband was super excited to get so many options. Although he's only tried the boar jerky so far, he was very happy. The packaging is as expected for jerky and the meat seems to be high-quality. I'm looking forward to being able to sample some of his jerky's and would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area or order ordering online as it was a seamless process. read more

So I settled on some hot buffalo chicken jerky. It was pretty tasty but you get so little. Almost $16 for a small 3.75 ounce bag. Smokey's is the place to go if you want some jerky in Big Bear. Upon entering the store we were sweetly greeted and informed about the prices. We had our two toddlers in tow and the shop worker couldn't have been more adorable with them. There is a sign on the jerky counter that proudly displays the staff is autist and I must say she is adorable and sweet! We roamed the store and were offered samples that tasted fresh and yummy. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that the candy seemed a bit dated..:though if you're going to Smokey's you're going for the Beef Jerky anyway. They also have coffee that smelled quite good but we didn't try any. The prices are steep but I guess that's what Jerk costs these days. WOW when I say I've never had beef jerky like this, I'm not lying to you. I tried the teriyaki, sweet garlic, and sweet a spicy. Each of these jerkies were so moist and flavorful - I've never tasted anything like them. They had a great selection of candy, coffee and nuts as well. I bought three bags of the toffee peanuts which were remarkably priced to give them as gifts ($5/bag). I'll definitely be back here when I come back to Big Bear next year. read more

I'm not the biggest beef jerky fan but this was transcendent. I was struck with a craving for beef jerky and decided to pull off the road and check this place out. It's nice and clean inside with some candy, nuts, other snacks, and a big fridge full of different kinds of jerky. The nuts and sesame sticks were delicious, and the service was very friendly. But holy COW the beef jerky!! So good! Melt in your mouth with delicious flavors and you can sample before you buy. It's a little expensive ($15 for a 1/4 pound) but genuinely some of the best I've ever had. I LOVED the sweet garlic flavor, teriyaki and sweet and spicy were very good as well. She was friendly, informative, and super engaging with them--explaining how the altitude affects the cooking process, recommending flavors, and encouraging them to sample so they'd get what they liked. The shelves were half-empty, the jerky was $15 for a quarter pound, and the candy looked old and dusty--but I still gave the place a chance. The girls even offered to let us go ahead of them since they were still deciding. My partner politely declined, saying we could wait. That's when the worker's whole vibe shifted. The moment she heard our conversation, she cut in and said she'd be closing soon--immediately giving off the impression that she was rushing us out. When it was finally our turn, it was the weirdest and most uncomfortable interaction I've ever had. After a long awkward pause, she just stood there, staring at us. It felt so uncomfortable that I said "hi" to break the ice, expecting some semblance of the same cheerful service she gave the customers before us. But her tone changed. Her body language changed. Her entire demeanor dropped--like helping us was a burden. It became very clear that we were not going to get the same warmth and respect. My partner and I were the only people of color in the store, and we felt it. I want to be clear: I understand if someone is hard of hearing or having a rough day. I work in healthcare--I've served people from all walks of life. This wasn't that. This was different. This was a choice. And when you filter out the one-star reviews here, you'll notice a pattern. This isn't a one-off experience. Multiple reviews mention her attitude, and if the business continues to keep her as the face of their customer service, that's a huge reflection of their values. I can't say if the beef jerky was good or bad this is strictly about the TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE ! Happened around 4pm Wednesday 05/28/2025. I had one of the most uncomfortable experiences here, filled with microaggressions and subtle disrespect that ruined my entire mood. I walked in around 4pm--they close at 6pm. The woman behind the counter greeted me and asked if it was my first time. I said yes. Immediately, she snapped, "I need you to look up here," pointing at the price wall. No welcome, no friendliness--just an abrupt tone that instantly felt off. In front of me were two white girls sampling multiple flavors with ease. The employee was warm and patient with them, even saying, "I just want them to get something they like." They took their time, and I overheard them say they didn't know what they wanted yet. I told them politely, "No worries, it's my first time too--I'll probably take a while as well." Just being kind. Right after that, the employee looked straight at me and said, "Actually, we're going to be closing soon and I'm going to be bagging things up--it's going to get loud in here." Mind you: it was not even 5pm they close at 6pm. They had two hours before closing. The message was clear: hurry up, don't linger. When it was finally my turn, she said nothing--just stood there in silence. I waited awkwardly, then said, "I'll try the hickory." She stared at me and said, "I'mma need you to speak up--I'm deaf." This was in a quiet store with no music, and I was right at the counter speaking clearly. She had heard me perfectly fine earlier when I was farther away. It felt like an excuse to be dismissive. At that point, I was so uncomfortable I didn't even want to eat anymore. I didn't order. I just walked out. Then she suddenly called after me, "Sir, sir--what happened?" But I wasn't going to explain how awful the entire interaction felt. I just left. I walked in excited to try something new. I left feeling disrespected, unwelcome, and honestly, singled out. Whether intentional or not, the microaggressions were obvious--and the contrast in how I was treated compared to others was undeniable. I lost my appetite and my respect for this place. Never again. Also I tried my hardest to smile and not think ooo is it because I'm a black male I hope not. However, four different terrible interactions I finally said it's not worth it. read more

Good luck actually getting into this place, no idea how the jerky is because the last time we were here we showed up when store was supposed to be open and waited about 30 minutes before we gave up and was excited this trip because we saw people standing outside and figured it was finally open. I came to this little shop TWO YEARS AGO while on a trip through California AND I STILL THINK ABOUT THE BEEF JERKY FROM HERE. Ive never tasted ANYTHING like the beef jerky from here. Every. time. I buy beef jerky from the store I begrudgingly chew through it while thinking about the honey jerky i had from this store two years ago. It's seriously that good. Any time I can get fresh jerky, I am quickly there. So when I noticed Smokey's Jerky & Candy Company during my trip to Big Bear, I immediately made it a point to visit this place. When I walked in, I knew I was in homemade jerky land. The place is small but is legit. I ordered the turkey jerky (which they only had one type) and doggie jerky. They do have a variety of beef and venison jerky; however, I don't eat either one so it was sadly a major pass. The jerky I did get were devoured by both humans and doggies. They were deliciously fresh and flavorful!!! As for service, the woman who was helping me was super sweet. She answered my questions, and I was impressed by the amount of information she provided as it was her first week on the job...amazing!!! Overall, great experience!!
