I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

This place is a whole vibe. What a treasure for this little community off Route 66 near…read moreVictorville. We came in mid-afternoon on a Friday, and the tables filled up shortly after. The ambiance here is going for rural quirky, and it delivers. We ordered a Moojave and the Heavy Haul potatoes to share. Heavy Haul Potatoes: came out first and were a delicious and substantial appetizer. Soft slices of potatoes, heavily coated in herbs and oil, broiled with mozzarella cheese and topped with scallions. I had envisioned eating these like nachos or fries, but they had more of a scallopped potato vibe and required a fork. Definitely tasty and filling. The Moojave: Oiled rather than sauced, topped with tons of garlic, mushrooms, sliced onions, and pepperoni, and finished with arugula. It was very garlicky, the texture was perfect, and the arugula gave it a really fresh bite. Chefs kiss on this one, it was bomb. If you're traveling through the area looking for something different than a drive-thru and have the time, I highly recommend checking this spot out! It is worth the wait.

Truckers Potatoes and a side salad. Wasn't sure of the size of salad, but boy was it loaded with color, flavor & freshness! Will get the small next time. Despite all being satisfying perfect. Did I mention the potatoes were steaming hot with a side of ranch. M'm M'm good! Extra bonus for us women. There's a separate men and women's restroom, yay! All other images can speak for themselves. Not a huge place but not small either (indoor & outdoor seating) and plenty of fun and personality. Figured I'd stop there since I'm looking for some land off the Route 66. And know without a doubt this will be a regular stop for me when I'm in town for good. Cannot WAIT! Until next time... please have some for me no joke cheers!

A perfect stop before hiking Joshua Tree for your breakfast, lunch or snack grab-and-go needs, with…read moremore than just the usual lame brands and items. Located next to the JT visitor center west entrance and about 5 miles from the park entrance. We arrived to this small local place just as they were opening at 7:30 am and they had breakfast sandwiches being made, mostly with bacon, egg and cheese but they'll make you sausage or other variation as well. They also have a good selection of other breakfast items like hard boiled eggs, cheese, fruits, yogurt parfait, salad and deli lunch sandwiches. Additionally they sell various hot and cold drinks, organic JT coffee beans that they'll grind for you, salty and sweet snacks, California dates and roadrunner t-shirts. Prices are not cheap but comparable to other similar places and Starbucks. We appreciated the friendly staff. The breakfast sandwich was delicious, though it did take a bit to make.

Every time, the folks behind the counter don't really say hello or greet (most) customers. With me they usually just kind of stare. I realize not everyone communicates in the same way. But no matter who is working, same thing. I'm usually the first one to say something - like anything. During a recent visit, the cashier didn't even finish my transaction before going back to what they were doing for the customer in front of me (who the cashier seemed to know). Again, no communication. Now, I don't need to have a full conversation with every person on staff. But the overall customer service isn't inviting or very present here. Not for everyone, anyway. So even though the sandwiches, salad, and cookies are tasty, I can't honestly recommend this place. There are other delicious grab and go options in Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, or 29 Palms that are much more friendly.
