    Brisket Mac & Cheese Taco

Loved everything about it!! Food was great, service was awesome, outside seating but was a beautiful day so 10 out of 10 for me!! I'm looking forward to going back & trying some of the other menu items.

Nachos with pork! Def not shy with the meat! Huge plus. I'd prefer queso over nacho cheese though. Not shown it was on the side

We wanted Mexican and I saw this (new for us) truck was going to be in our hood tonight. We decided to "cheat" and order out and give it a try. I ordered online, and my husband went to pick it up. We tipped, always tip! This helps keep these places afloat!! Now to the food... the food was alright to us... the menu sounded amazing, but when I want Mexican, I want Mexican! It was more of BBQ truck instead with maybe a mex spin ?! The rice was like white rice with chewy texture, the beans were mixed and the tortilla was spinach, at that! What we had was pretty flavorful and some may love it. I just want what I want, when I want it lol! And this just didn't curb my burrito craving! This ran us about 40 bucks with tip, The portions were huge! And they were not shy with the pork on nachos :)

I received a free lunch compliments of Super-Sod for their grand opening. My wife had the pork nachos and loved them! I had the special parfait and it was ok. The rice at the bottom was a little undercooked and the overall potion was very small. Had I paid the $14 for it, I would've been pretty disappointed. I would like to try them again, but would order something more substantial.

Smokin Gringos was out at Firefly for a concert and I had my nephew and his friend with us so we all went and got some food. Luckily they had some kids meals like simple nachos and hot dogs too. We got the pulled pork nachos and they were decent. Lots of toppings and did the job at the concert. I was hoping to see their giant taco and some other menu items but because it's a festival they were slammed so I get it, but hopefully will get a better menu selection next time.

My wife ordered dinner from the truck off of Street Food Finder last night and I picked it up on the way home. I was very happy with the service at the truck, and was loving the smell and the music as I waited for the food to be packaged up. Note, especially to the people who are knocking them because the food isn't Mexican enough ... these are "Gringos" operating the truck ... it even says "Smokin Gringos" which implies smoked meat like pork and brisket. Honestly. If you come to this truck looking to get traditional Mexican food, you came here with the wrong expectations. Anyway, off my soap box. The food was amazing. I ordered the brisket tacos with a side of mac n cheese (and I was very happy with that menu option). The rest of my family got pork tacos, nachos, and more tacos. We didn't leave anything behind on the plates, and nobody left the table feeling hungry.

    Prime Rib Nachos - delicious!

Smokin Gringos was so kind to book at a block party for our neighborhood along with another local dessert truck. We had a great turnout and I hope it was worth their time and effort! For the actual food - I tried the prime rib nachos which were divine. They had this deliciously sweet bbq sauce along with a perfect toppings-to-chips ratio. Other toppings included beans, cheese, sour cream, banana peppers, jalapeños and a fruit salsa. The owner also took some time to walk around and speak to our group and he was a great time. The truck was covered in stickers showcasing all the awards the truck has won, so you know they're good!

This is the BEST Barbeque - hands down ! The Brisket is SO Tender & the Chicken just falls apart. And the Mango Barbeque Sauce is to DIE for. Don't forget the pickles - Something Special !

Smokin gringos came to Old rice retreat in cane bay tonight and I was excited to try it because last time I attempted to get something from this truck they sold out of food after I had been waiting in line for 20+ minutes. I'll start with the non food related part of my review. The truck is very colorful. I arrived to the event maybe 15 minutes after the event started. There was nobody in line at the truck. While walking to the truck, I noticed that pages grill food truck had a HUGE line. Well when I walked to the window and started ordering I couldn't help but notice the man taking my order seemed very annoyed I began to wonder if it was because there was nobody in line at his truck and so many at pages. Now one of the main reasons I love food trucks is I like supporting local businesses and I love how supportive all the trucks are of each other. After handing me my food, the man yelled out to the people waiting in line for pages and said "there's no line over here, I don't know what y'all are waiting for." After he yelled that at them, he turned to me and said "their food isn't that good." That was very disappointing to me. Now onto the food. I ordered the mega burrito and pork tacos with a side of Mac N Cheese. The tacos were very underwhelming. There was not much filling to them at all and they were very small. All that was in there was some pulled pork and a small amount of beans. The pork was juicy but there needed to be more. The tacos came with a side so I got Mac n cheese. I'm picky with my Mac n cheese so I was not impressed. It was very bland to me and the amount you got was very small. I do not feel I got $12 worth. Now onto the mega burrito. It was FANTASTIC but for $18 I wouldn't expect anything less. The tortilla was a spinach tortilla which I found interesting but it worked. In the burrito is salsa, sour cream, pulled pork, ground beef, refried beans, Gringo beans and queso! All of the flavors worked so well together. The creamy sour cream mixed with the juicy meats was amazing. There was a perfect amount of spice. There was also queso on top of the burrito which just added to the pleasurable flavor. Wasn't happy with my encounter but I would DEFINITELY order that burrito again.

Food is good but overpriced. The owner pockets all credit card tips from employees so if you tip do it in cash.

It's not my favorite type of Mexican restaurant, as it's a little more upscale than I *personally* prefer, but if upscale Mexican is your vibe, then this'll be the perfect restaurant for you! They had an alright selection of beers, to include a couple of IPAs, but my friends and I didn't really enjoy their cocktails. They were expensive, but lacking in much flavor or zest. Besides looking cool, the taste didn't really match the aesthetic. Furthermore, the food was solid, but not that much better than your basic Mexican restaurant. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough, but he always seemed to be in a hurry, and was walking away while we were still trying to give our order. All-in-all, I'm probably making Matador sound worse than it was, but it was merely a slightly above-average Mexican experience, not a transcendental dining experience that I'll never forget. I'll give it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it based on your personal preference.

Both made our day! I will say: Duncan makes the best Berry Coladas!! That drink is SO GOOD! it tastes like a coconut berry smoothie (we got the alcoholic version with rum, but there's a nonalcoholic version as well). Once our table was ready, we were moved to a booth. The overall decor is coastal and cute, with basket-lighting, wooden booths, and multiple ways to order! You can order via your server, QR code, or a paper ballot. We started off with the large sized chips & guac. I was skeptical at first because the guacamole doesn't have tomato, but it was VERY good! We devoured it! For tacos: we got: The baja fish taco: one of my favorites--the fish is perfectly crispy The crispy duck taco: good! Not super crispy, but definitely tasty The cauliflower taco: a surprise hit! I found the flavors very refreshing and well seasoned! The tuna taco on a bed of lettuce: this one can get messy. I ordered with my stomach instead of reading the fine print that it doesn't come in a traditional taco tortilla. The overall taco is good and the tuna has excellent flavor. The taco does come loaded with a sauce that tends to spill--so eat over the tray! My sister got the carne asada taco, and she felt that it could have been better. She felt the carne asada itself was bland and relied on the sauce for flavor. Because this is a chain, I will continue you to go to them because their food is reliably good. However, on busy days, expect a 30 minute+ wait to be seated here. The guacamole, the drinks, and the tacos are overall very good! I found that ordering 5 tacos was more than enough to fill me. My sister and I split our bill of berry coladas, large chips & guac, and tacos (5 per person) came out to $33.53 per person (with tax and tip).

We went back for our missing tacos, and they gave us an extra along with some chips for free. Overall, the food 10/10, but unfortunately the service could not live up to the same standard.

Mine had great mixture of well prepared meat, but without the added hot sauce, pretty bland. On singular tacos; they only captured it one shell. Had to eat them with a knife and fork; impossible to pick them up without disintegrating. Most place use two or more shell preventing this from happening. The Azul bowl was a mix of beans, rice, corn, steak, avocado and a drizzle of sour cream. Overall, it too, was very bland. The highlight was the refried beans, but almost cold when they arrived. The cost we thought were high compared to comparable places. This is kind of a run of the mill place, but you can find better, even here on James Island. I can't see returning.
