Truly a gem, which explains why it's so popular amongst the locals. It's located in downtown Omaha, and attracted lots of visitors on the weekend that my partner and I were in town. Most of the highlight was the various types of burgers and fries they had, so my partner and I got two kinds, and we both enjoyed our respective meals. I had the block burger, which was as good as I imagined it to be, with juicy patty cooked to medium and every ingredient needed to make a good burger. The poutine had a lot of beef gravy and cheese curds, which made the dish a comprehensive experience to consume, rather than just fries. The duck duck goose fries were amazing! The duck confit, cheese curds, mayo, gravy, and gooseberry gastrique combination worked super well on top of the fries, because they altogether basically made it a gourmet dish that I had to eat with a fork. Finally, the sloppy nick was seasoned very well, even if we got the vegan version, which used impossible meat instead of ground beef. It was still really great! Hope everyone who visits Omaha gets to try this spot! Their wall has quite a few articles that recognized them as a locally renowned burger joint, and I could see why. Having just got to town and hungry for lunch I walked a few blocks to Block 16. I came because I read amazing reviews about them and saw they won numerous awards. I also checked out their menu and noticed it was definitely a unique, interesting menu. Upon walking in, there was a line backed up to the door and I waited in it about 15 mins and it didn't move one person, but I used this time to check out the menu and decide what I wanted. After noticing the line not moving and the cashier in heavy discussion with the family that was there placing their order, I felt it might be best to use their online ordering for carryout pickup instead. While doing this, the line moved up once and I suppose that next party had questions too and of course, plenty of time was spent answering those questions. This might seem like good service, but when the line is that long, either have more people there taking orders or use a kiosk for those of us who don't need to ask questions, or remind guests that there are many others in line (probably after the first 5 mins of discussing the menu) and the line needs to move up. After I placed my order, it told me it was accepted and gave me a time range of when to expect my order. I sat down and waited until the end of that range, which was only a few mins, and then went back up to the pick up area to ask about my order. The lady working was very friendly when I explained what I did. She gave me a number and told me she'd bring my order out, she also gave me the drink I pre-ordered. A few mins later, she brought my food out. I looked around to notice that people who were waiting for food prior to me still hadn't gotten their food. I'm not sure if it's always this slow in there or if it was busy because there's a conference in town. Opening the clamshell that my food was in - I noticed a beautiful sandwich and fries. The fries were piping hot and crispy and tasted great. The sandwich looked really nice, but when I went to pick it up, I noticed the entire bottom was soaked in grease and their hot sauce that was on the chicken. So, I fork & knifed this meal. The flavors of all the parts of the sandwich together were nice, just wish I could have picked it up without being a mess. If I ever returned, I'd get something different. read more

Block16 is one of my favorite local spots, and I use any excuse to stop in for lunch. Parking has always been a challenge, and with all the current construction downtown, it is even harder. But do not let that detour you from trying this gem. I usually like to grab one of my go-to orders, like the poutine burrito or the Croque Garcon Burger, plus whatever the daily special is. Sometimes the specials do not hit for me, but that is not their fault. It is a seat yourself space, but I have never had any issues finding a spot, usually by the time you order, someone has left. Despite the space being crowded whenever I come by, they do a great job of keeping the tables cleared and clean. Service has always been top-notch for me. read more

I had the Sailor Dip ($16.95) and poutine fries ($7.95). The dip was served super hot and fresh. Very good sandwich and incredibly filling. But I had regret for not trying other more unique menu items. The poutine fries were also good but not served at the same lava hot temperature which would have made them better. Block 16 is always at the top of my recommendations for people coming into town. Their food is consistently amazing and their specials keep things interesting. Their poutine burrito can be a little heavy, but you'll want to eat all of it. Their loaded fries can be a meal on their own if you're committed to it - their duck duck goose fries might be my favorite so far. If you're going to eat in, know it can get a little busy but it's definitely worth it. If you're more in a pinch for time, ordering ahead is a great option. In a word, fantastic. In many words : Block 16 is a must visit in Omaha for American style food. Their ingredient quality, and mixtures of flavors are unmatched. Their focus on ingredients is clear in the freshness of your meal! No fear, anything you select to eat will have that special touch added to it. I got a dragon wrap with sietan and it was FANTASTIC. the texture of the sietan was pull apart soft, the seasoning was a mixture that was reminiscent of gyro flavors in my opinion. The arugula and chickpeas brought brightness, and the dragon sauce kept everything dense and hearty. It's quite large as well, I found it bigger than the burger ! My brother got a burger with a sunny side up egg and ham on it. He is somewhat of a burger connoisseur as it's his favorite thing to explore. After the first bite he couldn't stop saying how impressed he was! The toppings and the quality of the burger patty itself was top tier. We shared some crab Rangoon style fries ... LAWD. This place was amazing! So the wife and I decided to try this place on a recommendation from Siri, when I asked for a restaurant near me. We had heard good things about Block 16, but had never tried it, so we thought we would give it a chance, since it came highly recommended. From the outside it didn't look like much, typical downtown store front, but once inside you get a real earthy vibe and the smells start to fill your mind with good thoughts. It was an order at the front kind of place with self seating, and being that they were really and quite busy it was hard to find a seat, but we got lucky, grabbing the last table. My wife ordered the sailor dip and I got the poutine burrito with funky fungi fries, but it was a hard decision because everything on the murmured looked so good. Had to wait a bit, since it was cooked to order, but well worth the wait. Big portions and great flavors. Enough for us to take home and enjoy a second time around. A fun little spot. I knew everything looked crazy on the menu, but didn't expect to be completely perplexed on what to order. It's tight quarters and will fill up quickly at lunch. Multiple people looking for seats. The food comes quick though so they're churnin and burnin. They were very nice at the register and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Block 16 is still hitting it out of the park with their recipes and style! They also offer delivery sometimes/on certain things, so we had to try that out (and review the experience!) I don't think you can get the daily specials on the delivery menu, but they have all their standard menu items available. I got some old favorites, the poutine and the croque garçon burger. Both came perfectly packaged and piping hot. Almost nothing was lost in transport. My husband got the Salmon Salad, and it was HUGE. It came with two giant filets of salmon, that my husband said is some of the best he's had in Omaha. It also had an accompaniment of hummus with pita, and even the little side item was amazing! We also tried a newer item, the Omaha fries, which are topped with Doritos, sloppy joe meat, ranch, Dorothy Lynch, and cheese curds. All things we Omahans are known to love - LOL! But to be real, the mixture is fantastic and I definitely recommend these. It sounds weird but just trust me - they are bomb. This landed! We had just spent too hot days at the zoo, and exhausted a lot of spots in Old Market. We needed something new and not too busy on a weekend, and we were just early enough to make this one work out beautifully. The staff was very friendly here and helped us set up the kids with chicken tenders, which we hadn't seen on the menu. There were other kids there too so I'd say they're kid friendly on the whole. We sat outside as the inside was busy, but it was nice despite a few aggressive panhandlers coming by for a bit during dinner. The food was great. I had this gigantic spicy chicken sandwich and it was tasty -- not spicy like I prefer, but damn good. The fries were also incredible, putting the meal over the top. Tried Block 16 for the first time - I got the Block Burger and here's all you need to know - soft bun, thick juicy patty cooked well, correct amount of condiments on the patty, shredded lettuce that didn't feel wimpy, and it came out nice and warm. They have many different types of over-the-top fries, and we tried two of them! The crab Rangoon fries and the funky fungi fries! Both were delish! Cold water is free and self serve from two containers in the dining area. It's obvious it's there when you look inside. Wont post more than that cause the numerous positive reviews here covers it to me. I'll add that parking was metered street parking for us. Recommend downloading the ParkOmaha app (we have iOS) and paying that way. This is such a great spot if you're feeling something totally different. I love trying new things here. I've had the poutine burrito, crab rangoon fries, and fungi fries. All of those were sooo good. I would order any of those again. I did not like the tribute burger, I think it might have been the secret sauce but this burger did not do it for me. We went to Block 16 for lunch today on a Saturday afternoon and waited about 45-50min AFTER ordering until we got our order. My boyfriend got the sloppy nick which he loved. He's been here before and that's his favorite. It was my first time. I got the pulled pork roll. Very dry and not much flavor to be honest, sadly. I got the passion fruit blood orange margarita that was extremely good but wish it came bigger. $9 for not much of a drink. It is located in a small-ish building with not much seating. They need a bigger place for the amount of people who come here. I had very high expectations from hearing so many people say they love this place but I left underwhelmed. Maybe I got the wrong food selection for my first time? If I go back, I'll need to make sure I have at least 2hrs spare time and will def try something else. Absolutely delicious. They automatically get 5 stars because they created french fries that were not only odd and different, but blew us away with how delicious they were. Unfortunately, they were out of the funky fungi fries we wanted to try, however, the Dragon Fries are a must try and won us over. The Block 16 Burger was so juicy and delicious. I'd been wanting to try Block 16 for a while, and I am so glad I did! I was truly blown away by my first meal here. There were so many interesting options to choose from, but I got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich. My friends and I also split the Funky Fungi Fries. Both were incredible. There were so many flavors and textures happening that I wasn't sure how they would complement each other, but it all worked so well. On the sandwich, Nashville hot chicken was paired with a sweet candied tomato, rich chimichurri sauce, and crispy bacon for a perfect spicy/sweet/salty combination. The fries were also delicious and a unique blend of flavors. I thought the portions were very generous and definitely left satisfied. I'd only take off a star for messiness:) We were a little worried if there would be seating, as you order at a counter then wait for your meals at a table, but it worked out great! The line moved quickly and the service was very friendly. Now that I know how good the chicken bacon ranch and funky fungi fries are, it will be hard to not get the same thing again, but I am excited to come back and try more of their creative offerings!! Staying in downtown Omaha during the beginning of the CWS (total zoo and it's only the Thursday before the first game). Looked up "sandwiches to go" figuring they'd have a salad and they did! Block 16 is downright delicious. My husband and I got takeout from here recently and had planned on keeping leftovers for the next day's meal...and there were no leftovers. We licked the containers clean! I got a seitan dragon wrap, my husband got a vegetarian version of the poutine burrito, and we got a side of the funky fungi fries to share. The dragon wrap is SO good and the sauce that's on it makes it tangy and a little sweet. My introduction to seitan was when I got this wrap for the first time many years ago and it it still my favorite way to eat it. Everything about this wrap is a yes. I also got a taste of the poutine burrito - I'm not sure what protein or steak-replacement they use for the vegetarian version but it wasn't my favorite personally as a lifelong vegetarian. The burrito as a whole was super savory and the gravy and cheese curds were an instant win. The dragon wrap wins by a very slight margin, but this burrito can definitely hold its own! The fries were surprisingly tasty as someone who doesn't love mushrooms. They're fried and seasoned so well! The only other criticism I have are that the whole meal was fairly salty. It was tasty steak not as tender some pieces tough or rather large like stew meat, however, well seasoned with potato bits, onions and croutons. 9/10 Grilled cheese was a 8/10 too crunchy for my liking but cooked with real butter and great cheese next time I'll ask for sourdough or white bread.
