We've been craving BBQ for a while and were very excited to try Smoque! We ordered the Sampler for 2 with ribs, brisket and sausage. My personal favourite was the brisket - I got a very tender/juicy piece but I did notice that some were drier than the others. My partner, on the other hand, preferred the ribs. The sauce that came with the ribs was REALLY good. The sausage was flavourful but we both felt like it dried out pretty quickly. The sides were SO good. We had the Brussel sprouts, corn bread, and mac & cheese. Brussel sprouts were probably my favourite - loved the sauce they cooked it in. The butter that came with the corn bread was delicious and the mac & cheese was so creamy, It was a fun spot that I'd be happy to visit again with a larger group! The back ribs were tender and juicy, the chicken wings were a solid favorite, and the smoked sausage was soft and flavorful with just the right amount of smokiness. Finally got a chance to come and try the BBQ at SmoQue N'Bones on Queen Street. The service was excellent! Payas was friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. He checked on us regularly to ensure we were enjoying our dinner. There were three of us dining, and we shared a sampler platter for two along with two additional sides. The three of us agreed that the mac & cheese was one of the best we've ever had at a BBQ place. The pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, and the cheese sauce was creamy and perfectly. The first one we tried was so good that we ended up ordering a second, the truffle mac & cheese. For our sampler, we chose the ribs that were literally falling off the bone, the brisket that was very flavorful, and the BBQ sausage that tasted wonderfully natural. Along with the mac & cheese, we also had the brussels sprouts, sweet potato waffle fries, and the potato salad. Everything was really good. The lower level seating area is all high tops. Upstairs has more tables and chairs, along with a bar stocked with various scotches and whiskeys. The best bang for your Winterlicious buck! Holy smoques! (See what I did there?) My table ordered 3 Winterlicious meals, and there was easily enough food for a 4th person to come and join! The portions were incredibly generous, and between the three of us, we were able to try everything. While the barbecued ribs were excellent, the unexpected stand-out was the appetizer of chicken poppers. They were perfectly crispy, and they were super flavourful even without the sour cream dill sauce. Also, the appetizer serving size was easily enough to be a main! Was walking around the area and the want for BBQ struck us and this place was close so we figured we'd pop in and give it a try. We got lucky as seating is tight and they were able to seat us. They did tell us that there was a reservation in a little over an hour but it was more than enough time for us to enjoy our meal. The staff doesn't communicate well with each other because after we were seated someone else asked if we were supposed to be there as if we would come in and seat ourselves, it was odd to say the least. I cant say much about the bar because i was never served my drink but I will talk food. The food was well worth the awkwardness! We did a sampler plate that had three meats and three sides. Bbq meat is probably my favorite food. The ribs were absolutely amazing, the pulled pork and brisket decent but nothing extraordinary. The Mac and cheese and waffle sweet potato fries were also very good. All in all a solid spot for bbq meat. I ordered Buttermilk Fried Chicken and a side of Mac 'n Cheese.  Gord ordered Beef Brisket but then changed his mind to Pork Side Ribs. When Dean brought us our food, he brought both brisket and pork ribs.  It was a lot of food!  But rather than tell Dean a mistake was made, we shared beef brisket and pork ribs and took the chicken and mac 'n cheese home for lunch the next day. We, a group of 6, went to the Baldwin location on Saturday as part of Summerlicious. The server was edgy/funny until he was a little annoying as things went off a bit. It was busy, but didn't appear understaffed. We had 5 appetizers arrive promptly but the 6th arrived 5 minutes later after a second reminder. The appetizers were all very good. The beef tips and pulled pork taco were the highlights. The mains were OK. Just OK. The brisket was very over done. It was way too firm and that was very disappointing. The ribs were OK. The chicken drumsticks were good. Given that brisket should be a signature of a BBQ restaurant we were disappointed. Overall, OK, but with some many BBQ paces around I wouldn't go back. read more

First off...let me comment on the Seats & Server. The seats were like siting on a Porcupine! Super uncomfortable & ya can never NOT find a point sticking up! Dig into the back of my legs with no where to support your feet or back. Our server was excellent. She was polite, smilie & bubbly. And she did a great job. The bathrooms were old but were clean & well maintained. Now on to the BBQ....my appie was the Rib Tips...good but not great. Needed more BBQ sauce & not very meaty. My wife ordered the Beet Salad, it was good but again not great as we could have made a beet salad better at home & we have. The rest of the BBQ was very tasty. I had the Pulled Pork sandwich. Tasty but it was light on the meat & since the entire menu was a-la-carte it should of had more Pork. I've tried going vegetarian for a week and I failed miserably because everytime I walk by Smoque N' Bones I get a wiff of that smokey aroma coming from the vents on the side of the building and I get swept off my feet. Funny enough, given that I eat too much meat as it is, I kept putting off ordering from here for years. There have been so many times I picked up the phone or almost walked in on a whim... but I kept hearing my wife in my head scolding me for giving into my carnal culinary desires. So I was shocked when she agreed to split the Sampler for Two option. My mouth was watering as I looked at the menu online and trying to decide what to get for my choice of three meats and three sides. My mouth is watering right now as I type this! For our three meats we chose: 1/4 lb beef brisket 1/4 lb peppercorn beef 1/2 chicken and for our sides we chose: waffle cut sweet potato fries Mac n cheese corn bread One thing I was a liiiiiittle sad about was the amount of food you get for the price you pay. I know it says the amounts of the meat in the menu, but you cant really visualize it till its infront of you and by then its too late. This is a very LONG OVERDUE review. We held out engagement dinner here. We had about 20-24 people and we had a menu curated by the Chef. Now we did let them know we had a vegetarian joining us and a person with Gluten Allergies. Our main complaint with the dinner and meal was we felt bad for out vegetarian guest as the vegetarian sides did not come out until the mains did, and that took a while. The overall menu was: Starters: Pulled Pork Sliders Smoked Wings Popcorn Chicken Rib Tips BBQ Mains: Rack Pork Side Ribs Baby Back Ribs Smoked Chicken Brisket Sides: Brussels Sprouts Mac & Cheese Cornbread (not gluten free) Grilled Corn The overall food was good. The Service was slow, but I felt like they planned it to be drop the food and leave us a long kinda thing. I noticed. The portions were huge, and there was enough food amongst the starters to feed most of the group already. The mains came and we had some each before packing it all away. Highlights: Rib Tips, Wings, Corn, Brussels Sprouts. Overall the quality of food was pretty good. Again my key complaint is that we could have had some of the vegetarian sides come out with the starters, and it would have been nice for the servers to be aware of the gluten sensitivity and let us know what is or is not gluten free. We came here as a group for a birthday celebration, had a full menu. Food I would give 3 stars. Sides were pretty good, mains were pretty salty, except for the brisket. Stopped by for a romantic Valentine's dinner with my pal. The place is quite small, thus tables are close together which was a little bit uncomfortable. It also made it a bit difficult for us to take off our jackets as there was no place to put them. Despite this, i would describe the atmosphere as "cabin cozy." Decor was nice as well, we were seated in front of the bar which had over 30 types of whiskey on display. The food is here GOOD, it's DAMN GOOD. And because BBQ is quite heavy on the stomach, it makes for a super filling meal! We took home so many leftovers. The BBQ sauce they give you is OUTRAGEOUSLY flavorful, it was almost offensive. The only "flaw" i see with the food has to do with the prices. It's quite pricey but i mean...we're in Toronto, what did you expect? In terms of service, our server was quick and efficient, she frequently checked up on us! I would 12/10 recommend this spot! Their cocktail named "BOB DYLAN" is my fav item other than the Beef Ribs. I love their special sauce which they have on most of their BBQ dishes and also serve it on the side. BEEF RIBS - LOVE it. MY Fav bbq item on the menu. PEPPERCORN BEEF - Not sure about this one. This is more like a Corned Beef than a Brisket. I guess we should have ordered the briskets instead. CHICKEN - Juicy and delicious. BEANS - MUST order. UNIQUE and delicious. With pieces of meat inside. POTATO SALAD - Too heavy to be considered as a side for bbq. Not my taste. COLESLAW - Amazing and refreshing, loved the taste of the dill in it. Could improve : -Although I love their signature sauce, they should offer more hot sauces on the side. - The entrance door kept opening on a cold windy day. Definitely will NOT be coming back. Waste of time and a HUGE waste of MONEY. The food was fine but almost everything was burnt and incredibly salty. The service was awful. The waitress even told us that herself, the bartender, and some of the kitchen staff were new (you would think they would pair the new staff with some trained staff but I guess common sense is not that common). That being said, it still doesn't justify the service we received. It took ages to get our drinks, and even longer to get our food. They weren't busy as it was a Sunday evening so I can't defend them and say that it was overwhelmingly packed. Aside from our burnt food and awful waitress, the real cherry on top was when it was time to pay and we noticed an 18% tip added to our bill.... At no point during our meal were we told there was a mandatory tip, especially an 18% mandatory tip, and no where was it written about a compulsory service charge. This is a bbq joint not a steak house. 18% tip for a table of 6 is an absolute rip off (worked out to $50 for a garbage dining experience). HIGHLY recommend you take your business elsewhere. read more

More of like a 2.5 review. I was honestly quite surprised at my level of disappointment for Smoque N' Bones because I know how busy they can get especially during the summer. I made reservations an hour in advance and when we got there it was almost full. My boyfriend and I had the platter for 2 that comes with 3 meats and 3 sides. We had the 1/4 lbs of brisket, 1/2 rack of ribs and 1/4 lbs of pulled pork with Mac and cheese, sweet potato waffle fries and the baked beans with brisket for around $70. All the meats have a side of BBQ sauce with a brush which comes in handy for how saucy you want everything which is nice. The ribs had a slight char/woody flavour which was good (I prefer more) but what I think can be improved on is the texture. The ribs didn't fall off the bone and wasn't as tender as I would have hoped. Took quite some effort to get the meat off. The brisket was actually quite good. It was soft and had a little bit of fat which is nice. On its own though without the BBQ sauce is kind of lacking a bit in flavour. The pulled pork was alright, not my favourite. The bigger pieces were on the dry side. The smaller bits were better but I just didn't really gravitate towards it. The sweet potato waffle fries were actually my favourite from this whole meal. The chipotle aioli dip complemented the sweet potato well. Nothing to complain about there. The baked beans were alright. I've definitely had better. The only thing that bothered me was that they used smaller beans and it was more on the hard side so you didn't get the fluffiness of the inside of the bean. My lad and I went on a recent Friday for dinner and were so impressed with the staff and food. HUGE rack of ribs at a reasonable price. The temperature outside was 33 degrees... and inside the restaurant it felt like 45 degrees. Our party of 3 got seated on the main floor right next to the kitchen. Trapped between the heat coming from the kitchen and the smoke coming the grill next to it... my thought was to go somewhere else, but of course the birthday guest insisted on staying. I personally did not have much of an appetite due to the heat and decided on ordering a cobb salad. The other 2 guys ordered the sampler for 2, which included: 1/2 rack, beef brisket and peppercorn beef. For the sides, we ordered brussel sprouts, mac & cheese, sweet potato fries. And as an add-on side dish, the corn bread. Was the meal worth it? In my opinion, not at all. The food was nothing special. The portions were way too small. The experience....maybe if it didn't feel so hot like a hell pit that day which ruined my appetite, perhaps I would have enjoyed the food better? read more

My wife and I were on vacation in Toronto and I am a BBQ junkie and there are only a few in Toronto, so I had to try this place. It is very small, but the food was AMAZING! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of baked beans. The beans came out first and they were beautiful, a little sweet and almost al dente. A little more firm than American baked beans, but I actually liked them better than our version, which are really tender. The pork sandwich came out and it was fork ready, because it was too large to eat as a sandwich. It is kind of cool that the chef is cooking right in front of you (It is that small!) Our service was fantastic and they have multiple beers on tap. Loved this place! read more

It was purely by chance that I ended up here for lunch. I was attending an event nearby and happened to park very close by. I remember reading some good reviews so it seemed like a good opportunity to try it. At first impression, the place is very narrow and dark, even though the entire front of the restaurant was open and it was a bright sunny day. It wasn't so bad once my eyes got used to the low light. It appears they have a dining room upstairs but it wasn't busy enough to have it in use. I ordered the BBQ Rib Tips and the Shoestring Fries. The fries arrived first, thin and very crispy, with a dip (chipotle aioli, I'm guessing). They were good! The rib tips were served in a small metal pan, similar to the fries. Very rustic. Judging from the texture, I'm guessing the rib tips were lightly dusted, fried, and then tossed in BBQ sauce. The vinegar based sauce was good but a little bit too tangy for my taste. I prefer sweet sauces. Maybe I would have liked it even more if there was less sauce on it. If this place was closer to home, I would go back to try more of their menu, especially some of their bourbon offerings. I will, however, keep it in mind if I'm in the neighbourhood. read more

What can I say?! This place rocks!! Thanks to Chef Alex, Evelyn, and Yelp for organizing an awesome evening here last night. This is my favourite BBQ place in Toronto and a must visit for any meat lover, in my opinion. My fave items are the light as a feather buttermilk onion rings, creamy tangy coleslaw, juicy smoky pulled pork, and spicy sticky BBQ riblets (shhh it's a new item!). Be sure to try one of their handcrafted cocktails as well, I am partial to their spiked lemonade with mint and bourbon. Chef Alex is a very awesome dude and his staff is excellent as well. If you are lucky enough to sit in front of his carving station you may even get to try a bonus rib ;) Can't wait to bring my mom to check out brunch this weekend! read more

It was my first time at a restaurant like this where they cook BBQ meats. We had the platter for two and we chose the brisket, peppercorn rack and the pork side ribs. The sides were pretty interesting, we chose Mac n cheese, brussel sprouts and pickled vegetables in a jar. Must say the brussel sprouts were surprisingly tasty and we had another round of it. The brisket was the best and deliciois with a lot of flavour. We were overly impressed with the pork side ribs as they were kind of dry and not as juicy as expected. Service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has two floor while the bathroom is downstairs but we didn't go to either floor. The bad area are high top tables with elbow room from the next person you're sitting beside. Definitely a spot to remember but will be venturing out to somewhere else :) read more

The beef brisket for 1/4 cost $18 but it's 3 small slices, and very thinly sliced, and dry. The brisket tastes like its been out for days, and not kept in the right temperature. It's not good. The collard greens are tasteless. Needs more salt, and more fat. The beans were the best bit, but if anyone can screw up baked beans, they're in trouble.
