    Cinnamon French Toast

We were staying in Kipling, and stopped here for breakfest. We were seated immediately since it was a late breakfast, the waitress was pleasant and patient. I liked the different photos and the different artwork around the room. The French toast was delicious and you could taste the cinnamon, so good! I picked off my brothers fries and gravy (mouth watering). They also had some huge home made cinnamon buns but I was stuffed.

Lunch was good but nothing to write home about. Met a couple work colleagues as it was centrally located for us. I had a grilled cheese and sweet potato waffle fries. Grilled cheese was ok...soggy on one side but the fries were great.

This was my kinda diner. We stopped in for lunch on our UP adventure and I'm glad we did. Delicious food, good service and a very quaint/cute diner set up restaurant. We started with some Mac n cheese bites that were very good. Then I had my beef chili which was delicious! Not super spicy but very flavorful. For my entree I got the chicken wrap with awesome curly fries. I love me some curly fries! The wrap had the right amount of seasoning and the chicken was cooked well too. I even stole a couple bites of my daughters grilled cheese which was very good. We even got one of their giant cookies for desert on the road. It was delicious as well Bottom line, stop in if you're ever in this neck of the woods.

    Deep fried Mac & Cheese

The staff was friendly. Our server shared what the special was & what cam with it. She also offered other things that were good choices. When the food came the portions were large. The soup was very good & the deep fried Mac & Cheese was exceptional. They also had homemade pies and breads. I definitely will go back when I'm in the area.

Delona's breakfast! Old school and delicious.

I won't be back. The last thing you do is mess with people when they are hungry. 35 minutes is a bit much to wait for an order of ham and eggs. Let me break it down for you... I have been going to Jack's for over 50 years as one of my favorite vacation spots to eat. The food has always been amazing, and the service was also great. But this last visit, was anything but great. As we sat down, someone came over and took an order for drinks. A few minutes later, a couple came in and they sat down in the center of the dining room. Shortly after that, our drinks finally came and a waitress took our order. We sat there for 30 minutes as people who came in after us were being served their food including the couple who came and sat in the middle of the room. When I inquired, the waitress told me that the cook I just put my eggs on the grill. I told her to tell him to have her or her up within the next three minutes, or we were leaving... I wasn't going to wait over a half hour for breakfast. I asked to see the owner... The waitress wouldn't get her. I told her that they shouldn't put a clock over the kitchen door if they were going to have such a miserable service. It's not the same old jacks... It's something else, some thing that I don't wanna be a part of. So my son and I left hungry and came down to Delona's in Gladstone. Tired and hungry. The first thing I noticed here, is that they are on top of their game, their food looks amazing, and they are cheaper than Jack's. It is a shame that the new owners of Jack's are destroying the good name and reputation that Jack's was built upon. But I am very happy that the Delona has picked up the slack that Jack has left in the market. It also explains why Jack's was dead during lunch rush hour, and Delona's is packed after lunch.

I recently had breakfast at the Dew Drop Restaurant in Gladstone. I ordered the country fried steak…read morewith eggs over easy, hash browns, sourdough toast, and a freshly brewed unsweetened iced tea. The food was about what I expected. It wasn't exceptional, but it wasn't disappointing either. Everything was prepared as ordered, and the meal itself was perfectly acceptable. One thing I genuinely appreciated was that they serve freshly brewed iced tea. Living much farther south, I've always preferred brewed tea over fountain tea, and it's something that's sometimes harder to find the farther north you travel. Every so often I visit Gladstone to see my mother-in-law, and I enjoy supporting locally owned restaurants whenever I can. I was looking forward to a quiet breakfast by myself with a glass of fresh brewed tea because it reminds me of sitting with my great-grandmother years ago. Unfortunately, the experience took an unexpected turn when I received my check. Before ordering, I had specifically asked the server whether the tea was freshly brewed rather than fountain tea. When she said it was, I ordered it without giving the menu another thought. After years of traveling throughout the United States and Canada for work and eating in restaurants almost daily, I simply assumed brewed iced tea refills were complimentary, as they almost always have been in my experience. It wasn't until I looked at my bill that I realized I had been charged for each refill. I had two glasses of unsweetened iced tea at $2.99 each. Seeing nearly $6 spent on tea alongside a $13 breakfast was genuine sticker shock. At that price, the beverage felt more like I was paying for a premium drink, such as a beer or a margarita, rather than iced tea. When I asked about it, I was told the restaurant has to make money and that brewed tea costs more than fountain soft drinks. That explanation didn't make sense to me because brewed coffee also receives complimentary refills. Looking at the typical costs of operating a small restaurant, brewed coffee, freshly brewed iced tea, and fountain soft drinks all appear to cost only a few dozen cents per serving once ingredients, equipment, utilities, maintenance, and labor are taken into account. While every restaurant's costs are different, the actual difference between these beverages appears to be relatively small, so I found the explanation difficult to understand. This wasn't really about the extra few dollars. It was about the surprise of discovering the charges only after the meal and the inconsistency of offering complimentary refills on brewed coffee and fountain soft drinks while charging for brewed iced tea. I appreciate that Dew Drop serves real brewed tea, and I enjoyed supporting a local restaurant. I simply hope they reconsider this policy or, at the very least, make it much more obvious to customers before they order. Had I known refills were charged at full price, I likely would have ordered something different. That small change in communication--or a change in the refill policy--would have made what was otherwise an average breakfast a much more enjoyable experience.
