Apply online, someone will contact you shortly to follow up, schedule your pets appointment at one of the upcoming clinics, expect to drop your pet off early in the morning (promptly) and pick up by noon (promptly again). Nope. Never again. I took Koa, my male cat, to get "fixed" yesterday at SNAP in El Cajon. I wish I would have read these reviews beforehand. A friend recommended them to me and it's a routine procedure, so I figured it would be fine. After seeing his poor little kitty paws when we returned home that night, I now feel like a negligent parent. He had been surprisingly active for being post-surgery; I almost think whatever meds they gave him were actually a stimulant, as he was crazier than usual. Except - we noticed he wasn't able to use his claws to climb on top of things. Anyway, I took a look at his paws and noticed his nails had been cut - way WAY too short. Many of Koa's claws had been CUT ALL THE WAY to the pink part (what I have learned is called the "ungual process"). One nail was bleeding and had dried blood in the crevice of his claw (I'll post a photo). There's little nerves in there. I can only imagine how sensitive and painful it is to have nails cut to the nerve. You'd think people in the veterinary field would be cognizant of this. I also made the mistake of generalizing all people within veterinary occupations as being animal-lovers. It was evident this is false the way they were essentially tossing pet taxis out the door with little cats and dogs inside who had just endured surgical procedures. No care. No compassion. I don't even want to think about the manner in which they handled the pets inside. Needless to say, I learned my lesson. It's unfortunate because I think the SNAP Project has good intentions and are working for a good cause. But I feel terrible for putting my pet in that environment. Updated Review: I just wanted to thank every body at SNAP for dealing with me and my crazy pup Maui. I recently went back to SNAP to get my new pup Maui neutered and it was a journey but he's finally got his cone off and back to being a happy pup! The staff is so polite and helpful! Scheduling Maui's appointment was quicker than the first one. Since he is a big dog, I had to PayPal a deposit (that goes towards the cost of the surgery) and it gave us a official spot for his surgery. They give you about a week to send in the money to PayPal. There was a lot going on after his surgery but my questions were always answered via phone call and email. The medical hotline response very quick. Everyone, from the people I emailed and talked to on the phone, to the women who checks in dogs, to the doctors were such a great help. Thank you again to everyone at SNAP for being so helpful! Maui and I thank you all for dealing with his crazy self. His fur brothers and sister are happy that he finally has that scary cone off! I just got my pup neutered here and I am very satisfied. Their spots do fill up fast so if you have a big dog it'll probably be a little bit harder for you. My pup is 15 pounds so he was actually able to be on stand by, just in case someone did not show up. The day before he got neutered, they called me and said that someone actually cancelled so he now has an official spot to get "fixed". They also remind you not to fee after midnight. Check in starts at 7 am and they are really quick about it. The instructions are very clear and they are really nice too! They do not seem to rushed or annoyed with anyone. They are very calm and great customer service. When you go to pick up your pet they talk to everyone as a group and give a brief explanation about the aftercare. You also go home with papers to remind you of the aftercare. The prices are amazing too!! They do have difference discounts for dogs if they are pit bulls or chihuahuas. I definitely recommend this place to anyone! The only downside is that spots fill up quickly so you gotta be fast about calling them when new schedules come out. read more

They book everyone for a 7 am appt, so it's good to get there early to get in line. They put a number next to your name as you check in, which determines when you are called to hand over your pet. They don't start talking to you until 7, and they address everyone at the same time, but that doesn't mean you can't get in line early to secure your place. Pickup time is usually around 12:30 or so, and they give all the instructions to everyone at the same time. $50 cash for neutering a male cat is not a bad deal at all. Scheduling was easy and the people seemed nice. I had to ask my boyfriend to take my dog to the appointment since I don't get off work until 8am and they tell you to be there at 7am sharp to drop off your pets. I printed off all the correspondence between me and the representative from SNAP so he knew exactly what to do and how much to pay. I was quoted in an email that it was $17 cash. The website said $70, so I thought maybe it was due to my low income and that they quoted the discounted prices in the emails. My boyfriend called me while I was finishing up at work and he said that he had to pay the $70 and that they would not honor their $17 quote. They chalked it up to it being a typo and that was that. That's a $53 difference!! What?? UGHHH!! Then, when I got my dog at pick up, he was returned to me with a janky huge cone that was tied to his neck with gauze and the cone was dirty with feces on it. So I had to go to the store and buy him a new cone that was clean and actually fit him. More money out of my pocket I don't know how they handled my dog or if the place is clean so I cannot rate on that. My dog seems ok after surgery and is back to his normal self which is the most important. Let's see how he heals the rest of the week. read more

I just had 3 cats spayed/neutered through Neuter Scooter (SNAP) at the Chula Vista location, and I am impressed. I have 3 kittens courtesy of an unclaimed lost pet that was found and given to me and who turned out to be pregnant. I paid a couple of hundred dollars at my vet's office to get the mother spayed, but I did not want to pay SEVERAL hundred dollars to get the 3 remaining kittens spayed/neutered. I heard about this organization from my vet's office but wasn't in any hurry since the cats were only a few months old at the time. They're now five months old, and one of the males has already tried to mate with his little sister. I called SNAP and left a message, and they immediately called me since my situation seemed like an "emergency" which needed quick attention. They found a time to get Lily in when they were going to be in Chula Vista. (This is a mobile spay/neuter organization.) They told me to take the two boys in as well just in case there was a cancellation. They later called me to tell me that they can do the males as well. My sister took the cats there for me, and she was pleased with the service. They also give you the option of getting the cats' nails trimmed which was wonderful! It cost me $60 to get the female spayed and $40 each for the males for a total of $140 CASH. I paid much less for the 3 cats getting it done through them than I paid for one cat at the vet's office. Thus, if you're hesitating doing the responsible thing and getting your pet spayed/neutered because of the cost, this is an inexpensive way to do it. The kitties are doing really well just hours later--except for poor Lily who needs to wear the collar for 10 days since her procedure is more involved. Whew! Dodged a bullet there! Last Saturday I got my 1.5 year old rescue cat spayed here. It was a painless experience. We arrived a little late but called to warn them, so they were understanding. Check in was simple- basically paperwork and then you stick around till they are done with the general exam. Then we returned at 2 to pick our kitty up. They gave us a packet of post-op instructions and had already given her painkillers for the day as well as outfitted her with a cone. That was it. We recently had our two dogs taken care of through this mobile program and can't be more thankful! The employees were very informative, expressed genuine care for the animals, and provided excellent service. I would recommend them to have your fur baby neutered. Call ahead to make sure you can find an opportunity close to your area otherwise you'd have to drive. We made the 30 min drive from north county to the site which isn't a bad commute at all.. Well worth it. We checked in at our appointment time, they will ask you to fill out one paper per pet. Only took 3 mins. Double check to see if they have all the correct info for you on their end. Once you're checked in they will take your fur baby and give you a time for pick up. It was only a 3 hour time span. After the surgery, they give you full home instructions, phone number to call for any questions, all the paperwork of neutering/rabies/license/, and the e-collar. Only one downside was the employee you talk to on the phone that calls you after you registered your pet online. She was quite rude and snippy over the phone. Her customer service almost made me second guess the program. But I'm glad I didn't because the ones I met today were in no way like her. Here's my story (not shortened because it's relevant): My boyfriend and I adopted our puppy from a rescue almost two months ago. We called the place that was recommended for us to get her spayed one month ago and we were gearing up for the big day as it was fast approaching. Just days before, we got a phone call that the place was closing and they had to cancel all appointments. WHAT?! In our desperate attempt to find a new place to get her spayed since we were on a time constraint to get back to work in a couple weeks, we called vets all around us. The quoted prices were so far over our heads and because we needed her spayed within the next week, we were having zero luck with finding a place that fit our needs. Then came SNAP. I can admit that I am one of those crazy dog moms. I research everything until it can't be researched any more and want only the best for my pup. When I read that this was basically a big bus that drives around, parks, and fixes pets all around SD, I was skeptical. I loved their philosophy--but that was a whole different thing from what I wanted my sweet puppy to experience. I called and a very friendly lady talked me through everything. She said we'd be on a wait list for the day we wanted but to come early anyway. I called only a week before, so I was pretty appreciative, although still worried we wouldn't be able to get her in that day. We drove out to the location, parked, and checked in. I was told that they had to check in everyone who had an actual appointment, and if they had room, we'd be able to drop her off. After about 45 minutes, I was told that my puppy would be able to be taken in that day. YES! Everyone who worked there was sincerely kind, and I don't think my nerves could've handled it if it was any other way. They answered every worried questions and made me feel calm and less anxious. We dropped her off at around 7:45 am and picked her up at 1pm. All the pet parents gather around to receive a post-op information packet and a certificate and at exactly 1pm, the door opened, we got in line, and we reunited with our dogs/cats. We had given the nurse a cone we brought for her and they had put it on her already. With smiles, they gave her back to us and told us she did great! Our dog healed beautifully and was never in any pain after the surgery. She was definitely out of it for the first day and a half, but she was back to her self by the end of day 2. Just now (which is what prompted me to write a review), the lady from SNAP called me to ask me how she was doing. It's the little things like that, that make a load of difference. There was the perfect storm of little obstacles that caused my husband and I to need a low cost option for spaying and neutering our dogs. It was a distressing situation, we were nervous since we kept thinking, "you get what you pay for", and that was the last thing we wanted for our two puppies. Being that he's active-duty military, and was the sole income earner, we did qualify as low-income for this program. I still worried about dropping off my little ones. Basically they tell you when the Neuter Scooter (a giant, mobile veterinary clinic in what looks like could be a rock band's tour bus) will be in an area close to your vicinity. On the day of the clinic you bring your dogs, fill out a waiver and information sheet. They go over the pertinent info with you, and then once they're ready they load your dog(s) onto the bus and they give you a time to come pick them up. Typically it's enough time to perform the services, and ensure stablility in recovery, and then you can bring your babies back home. I THINK that they include possible vet' students to get them up to speed on basic services. They did a WONDERFUL job with my dogs and I can not believe how thorough they were, from snout to the tip of their tail. That's why I think students were involved since a full-fledged vet would probably demand greater payment. But anyways- my dogs healed very well, without incident, and today they are happy and healthy... even though I sent them through the torture chamber of spaying and neutering. If you need a service like this, and qualify for it, I will atest to the fact that MY dogs did receive wonderful care through this program. read more

For only $60 I had a female cat fixed, a shot for pain medication that lasted three days, and an e-collar. You need to understand that they are always running on a timer, so if they come off a bit abrupt, it is only because it is all about efficiency and quality care at Neuter Scooter. I took my dog to an event on a military base to get spayed for free (for military families). she was a back up to get spayed if someone no showed. Everyone that was scheduled that day attended so they gave us a paper with a number to call to schedule it for a later time but it would still be at no cost. Everyone was super helpful during the process of scheduling. We got her fixed today and on top of the great care that they provided, they also gave her antibiotics for a skin infection she had that we were unaware of. I took 2 male dogs I had just rescued from a horrible environment to be neutered and both now have infections and in one case, serious complications. 1. Rude would be an understatement 2. One woman was so big as to have difficulty getting on and off the bus/RV, and she was carrying the poor dogs off after their surgeries. She had one stuffed under her arm while she struggled to get down the stairs of the RV. Then she unceremoniously drops him on the gravel, and says, "Oh, he's fine." Oh really? 3. 2 days after the surgery, doggie 1 was getting very red and swollen. this was a more invasive surgery due to the fact one of his testicles had not dropped. I called the recommended emergency vet from the neuter scooter and took him in . antibiotics and 350.00 later was told swelling should subside. The redness did subside however the swelling did not. 4. The next day doggie 2 now woke up in the morning with no appetite and swollen in the area where his testicles use to be . I called my local vet and as soon as they heard where I had taken my doggies they said bring them both in and we wont even charge you to check out doggie #!. 5. Well doggie 1 was misdiagnosed by the emergency hospital the neuter scooter told me to go to . My vet said look if it were just swelling I could not push this huge bulge back into this pocket. Turns out the dog had a hernia and had to undergo surgery immediately . The vet told us the suture were not done correctly there did not seem to be correct knots so it was just a hole and well gravity took over. The vet said she just cannot seem to explain the trauma at the surgery sight among other problems . My vet said they and other vets are receiving more and more problems due to this organization after they have worked on pets infections and suture problems. 6.Doggie 2 is very ill is on several medications and may have to undergo surgery as well we are just beside ourselves. 7. Now, because of the botched job on my poor doggies, "Im up to 1,230.00 so far " I should of read the reviews and taken them to a reputable vet I feel so so so guilty, not to mention these poor doggies had such a terrible like in the beginning and I showed them real love and cleaned them up only to have them go through so much more than they should have had to and I am beside myself because I made such a bad decision based on money shame on me! BE WARNED! Don't take your beloved pets to these butchers. They may have once been good, but they aren't any more. I read someone's yelp saying to give respect to these volunteers. Yes I commend volunteers in every scene of the fashion I gave them a 20.00 tip along with a thank you card . Mary Anne is one of the rudest people I have ever spoken to over the phone!! She had originally told me I could make an appointment at the bus after not being able to be taken on the stand by list. So while at the bus I had told another employee what she told me to do. They let me know that I was misinformed and needed to call Mary Anne back to make the appointment. When doing so, instead of Mary Anne helping me make my apt she yelled at me for telling her other employee what she originally told me, told me I was extremely wrong, and came up with a "new story" of what she told me. (More information I was never told in the first place) the entire time on the phone with her she talked with hate in her voice and in the most condescending tone. I could only imagine how she actually treats animals. Probably the rudest person I have come in contact with in a very long time. Oh and if you're on stand by make sure you refer to it as stand by not wait listed. Mary Anne will act like she doesn't know what you mean and then after awhile rudely say " you must mean stand by." Like you're an idiot or something. I haven't even gotten a chance to get my dog neutered and thanks to Mary Anne I don't want to even come here for him. And by reading the rest of these Yelp comments I shouldn't, seems like a lot of poorly treated animals and infections. I've used the Snap Project twice. First time all went fine with the stray I caught. This past time I brought in my 4 month old cat and I couldn't believe how rude this lady was. Her whole tone was bitter, controlling, and patronizing while in person helping everyone at check in. Over the phone she was resentfully rude. I damn near called her back to yell at her but decided that yelling at her is not worth my energy. Now I don't expect everyone to wait on me hand and foot with smiles for days like most yelpers (you know who you are). I even understand people have bad days too. But this mid-aged blonde woman is going through something personally awful and taking it out on families. She needs therapy or a few good orgasms. I hope she's been spayed herself. I can't imagine the kind of litter she'd pop out and verbally abuse through adolescence. Take a look at the reviews on here. Read the hidden "not recommended" reviews at the bottom too. There are more hidden reviews than displayed reviews. All these people are saying how awful she was. Is it sinking in yet? I don't recommend this service. Based on the amount of complaints that I relate to. There are other low cost spay and neuter programs in San Diego coming up. This is a great program to go through to spay/neuter your pet! They get booked quickly, but it makes sense since they are the cheapest and friendliest option out there! I called in to make my appointment and remember to leave a message the way they request it. The organization has so many volunteers helping out. I appreciated the volunteers knowledge and love for this organization as well, makes me feel more confident about bringing my pet. I brought my puppy for her appointment and it was a smooth process. Fill out paperwork, drop your puppy off and come back at the designated time. The best part about this is that I did not have to do any follow up and no additional medications were required! It's been a week now since my puppy's appointment and she is full of energy and is totally wishing she could take her cone off already. I love SNAP an all their workers! They took such good care of my dog. They took my little Wendell (a pini pooh). He thinks he's a pit bull. He was pretty aggressive, an they were able to take him without stressing him out. They clipped his nails, vaccinated him, licensed him, an even gave him a flea treatment, and a overall well check. All for free! They also did My daughter's 2 kittens. All for free. My son missed the free day but was still able to get his three dogs fixed at a very low price. I don't think he paid over $50 for all 3 dogs!!!! And they took amazing care of all our animals. We love SNAP !!!! We can't say thank you enough read more

We got our puppy neutered 3 weeks ago, and he is doing just fine without a single problem. We dropped him off at 7 in the morning and picked him up around noon. They sutured up so perfectly I did not even see any wound or bleeding right after the surgery. We appreciate affordable, professional, and caring service. This is a great service to the low income community. However, you use this service,plese understand that most workers there are volunteers, stressed, overworked and just trying to do their best. Inotherwords, it VERY likely that you will be dealing with RUDE, OBNOXIOUS, AGGRAVATED volunteers. Please be nice to them anyway.
