Snapdragon is an absolute gem, on Vashon Island. What an incredibly unique and wonderful atmosphere. All the employees were incredible, the baked goods were incredibly unique and the coffee was lights out. My wife usually orders a dirty chai, however, she went with an Americano. As they called her name I approached The barista who I believe was named Andrew. He asked if the Americano was for my wife. I said no, she had a dirty chai. He said he would make her one. Only to find out later she did indeed order an Americano. They were kind enough to give us the chai for free. I wanted to mention the, Cronut which is a croissant donut with a raspberry glaze. It's huge, too huge, and so Incredibly good. What a wonderfully unique texture. The longer I would chew on it the more I wanted to. The frittata was made with love and full of flavor. Stopped in to buy a few pastries and coffee on our way to Point Robinson Park. The pasties choices are AMAZING! Wow, generous portions. We bought a blueberry muffin and a croissant with lemon curd on it. Huge! Delicious! The cashier was friendly and gentleman that prepared our coffees were both very friendly. They have a wonderful home cooked type menu, next time we are dining in. You could see into the kitchen and it definitely looks like a working kitchen, you can see the baking equipment and ingredients. The dining area is eclectic and from the outside as you enter you are taken into what felt like a big cozy living room . Being 100% transparent this place is not great, but it's not terrible. The service was friendly! They gave us time to look at all the options being our first time. The place makes you feel like you're stepping back in time to the 1960's! Very old school vibe. Now, as for the food the most important part of this review. The food cost way too much for what you get. The only reason we visited was from all the people raving about this place, but one look at their reviews and they tell a different story. We were searching for a morning coffee and nibble and Snapdragon sold me on its charm and many recommendations. The building is just impossibly cute- there are so many seats and I love the rustic mismatched collections of furniture and vintage decorations. Don't skip peeking in the back too, as they have lots of outdoor covered and uncovered seating set in a lush green backdrop, with even a playful mini log-cabin spot that both kids and adults would love. They made a good cortado and I loved their egg croissiant sandwich with salsa and side salad. The raspberry oat brick was tough as a brick though, and we all put in plenty of arm grease to cut through it with metal utensils. The eggplant sheet pizza was nice but I would have loved more eggplant to shine. Sometimes the line can be a bit disorganized but folks are well meaning and friendly. I like the vibe, I wish I liked it more though. For some reason there are no menus and nothing is labeled or priced in the vast pastry case so I had to ask what everything was. I got the peach cake, which was good. I also ordered a regular latte and it was perhaps the worst latte I've ever had in memory. Just straight burnt hot milk with zero foam and for some reason super weak coffee taste? I'd wager the barista was the owner, though that is speculation. Snapdragon has long been on my list for restaurants to try in Vashon. On our latest trip there we determined that it was time to try some places we haven't been to before and we prioritized Snapdragon. It was a good plan for this stop to happen as the result was a very positive experience. There are primarily meatless options here. I got the Tofu Scramble while Steve got a bowl of soup. My scramble also had chunks of potato in it so gave it a good filler. They have what looked like to be an amazing bakery and we got the maple walnut roll to take home to have later. It was really fantastic and easily a guilty indulgence that I could easily succumb to often if I was close to this place. But I am like that with pastries. read more

The vibe in snapdragon is very hippie and eclectic. Very homey feeling. The staff were super friendly. The food fell short in my opinion. I had a Mediterranean type bowl. The tomato sauce on the dolmas was too acidic. I wished the feta was crumbled instead of a block. Everything else was okay. They claim to have gluten free options but have very limited options. The flavors balanced so well. The red tomato based sauce balanced out the saltiness of frittata. Then if you added the vinegar based pickled veggies to that you had a well balanced explosion of flavor. The bread was warm, fluffy, and delicious! The focaccia bread pizza had red bell pepper, jalapeño, and onion was so good! It had just a hint of spice that amped up the flavor! I think this is a local must eat! First time at a Snapdragon. There are several locations and this one is on Vashon Island. Not disappointed at all. Two pastries-cinnamon roll and a blueberry danish. Perfect. Along with a pesto eggs. Which was exactly that, eggs served on a focaccia style bread, pesto, eggs and cheese. Accompanied with arugula and a fresh crisp coleslaw. Perfect for sharing. Right when we hopped off the ferry, we checked this place out as we were very hungry. We got a blueberry cherry danish, chocolate donut, and egg croissant sandwich to share with a friend. Prices were high but also portions were large, and overall, the place is more quantity over quality. I enjoyed the blueberry cherry danish the most as it was sweet but also fruity, while the chocolate donut was overbearingly sweet. The donut had a chewy texture which was a little bit unique. The egg croissant sandwich is 50% good - the top croissant was perfectly baked, while the bottom was way too soggy so it was a miss. The sogginess was due to them adding tomato sauce which is interesting to add for an egg sandwich. There was not that much egg in the sandwich to make it worth the $17.50 price tag. Overall, this place has good pastries but their brunch menu items may be hit or miss, but to be fair we only tried 1 item. Don't be intimidated by the lines, especially if you order pastries only as they deliver those to you very quickly. Besides, there is ample seating both indoors and outdoors that you can enjoy the meal - so this is more of a fast casual, self-service type of place. read more

We went back multiple times and our favourites were the cinnamon roll (must try), peach coffee cake as well as the chocolate fudge cake (which is also gluten free). How I heard of this place: Friends of ours introduced us on a recent visit to Vashon. With so many (all?) vegetarian and vegan options, they have something to satisfy most diets. Type of cuisine: Texas sized portions of baked goods and savory meals served with baked goods, all made in house. Cuisines from all over the globe are adapted here and made into meals to serve their customers - East Indian, Mediterranean, American and more. Ambiance: From the outside, a strip mall adjacent to a gas station, the place is unassuming and perhaps less than enticing. Inside, the quaint and cozy space is a perfect hippy haven, with rustic furnishings, mismatched tables and chairs, and dark wooden interiors. Several picnic tables are also available outside for seating - and dog-friendly. Walk up to the order counter just inside and place your orders - making sure to take a look at the baking tray displays of oversized croissants, cinnamon rolls, etc. to the left. Take your seat and return to pick up orders when your name is called (sometimes they bring food out to your table). No frills, yet cozy and welcoming. What I ordered: We had a party of seven, so we ordered several items off of the menu. For me, the Baked Egg Fritatta ($18.50) with roasted potatoes, caramelized onions, ricotta, sage and tomato, served with a side of cabbage slaw and house-made focaccia toast. For my husband, the Bahn Mi ($18.50) with marinated tofu, shredded green and red cabbage, carrots, cilantro and jalapeno on house made bread. For my teenaged cousin, the East Indian Stuffed Pancakes ($18.50) filled with peppers, potatoes, peas, carrots, cilantro and ginger topped with two fried eggs and a side of raita. For the 8-year old, a feta-tomato-olive flatbread pizza. For our local friends, one order of the Mid East Plate ($18.50) with a black bean hummus, stuffed grape leaves, feta, artichoke hearts and tomatoes plus a side of bread; and the Marinated Kale & Feta Sandwich ($18.00) with sundried tomato and olive tapanade, pickled red onion on housemade focaccia. Self-serve water, napkins, and silverware (wooden, too) is available to the right of the register - beyond the volleyball sized chocolate chip cookies piled high onto a baking sheet. What I loved: The friendly, neighborhood, welcoming local service with smiles and sincere gratitude. The only food item/plate that was worth a second bite was the East Indian pancakes which were flavorful and novel. We may have caught them on an off day, perhaps a new cook was working, or a new oven was being tested out, but everything was dry and burnt (except the toast). The cinnamon roll was hard and black, the fritatta's burnt top difficult to cut into, the flatbread crisp and too hard to enjoy the crust, as well as the cookie's burnt edges which crumbled into the bag, opposite the cakey middle which was soft but beyond "golden". Flavors were lacking - as if seasoning was an issue on this visit, and the overabundance of cumin seeds on EVERYTHING made it difficult to enjoy the meals ordered. We would come back for another try, but would definitely be cautious about ordering the baked goods. Why I loved it: We love local spots, especially when recommended by locals who frequent the establishment. Cost: High, overpriced. read more

Then when checking out the baked goods we got to chat with one of the owners. Adam, after we talked about the leftover croissants, suggested we return in an hour for some fresh baked ones. The pickings on Vashon can be slim at times, but Snapdragon delivered us tasty pastries and a warm and cozy (and dog friendly!) environment to enjoy them. Our group of 7 ended up at Snapdragon "accidentally" when the place we intended to go fell through. What a happy accident! The line when we arrived wove across the entryway, and it was a little confusing figuring out which was the head and which was the tail of that serpent. Someone came up front (the owner?) and introduced us to the items in the display case and answered our questions -- a helpful move because nothing was labeled and we would otherwise have been lost -- then left us to make our decisions which we conveyed to the person working the register. In addition to the pastries on display, they also offer a menu of made-to-order breakfast and lunch items. My husband and I shared a Turkish pizzette and an apple & peach galette. Both were delicious. The galette was enormous and could feed several people or two people several times. There's no wrong answer there. I tried a sip of a dirty chai latte but disliked it greatly because 1) it was too clovey (that's on me) and 2) it was too chunky (that's on the barista). There's a full bar in the back section of the cafe so I assume they're open evenings as well. Minus one star because of the confusing line and unlabeled goods. My husband and I stumbled upon this magical cafe on our way for a paddle on the island. We immediately decided we wanted to serve their incredible pastries over our wedding weekend. Tried the West Seattle location first but they had a limited selection due to farmers market day crowds. Wanted to try the original Vashon location so went with anticipation, but was disappointed. Their almond croissant was nothing like a croissant other than vaguely being shaped like one. It was an underbaked doughy brioche texture. The chocolate cake had a texture like cornbread and was incredibly dry. Our iced lattes were so watered down that the drink just looked like a slightly dark milk and the store ran out of cold cup lids so we had to drink them precariously in the car. When I was looking for must do's on Vashon, Snapdragon was on the list of suggested places. When you walk in, they have a huge case of baked items all priced at $6. While it's cool to have it all priced the same, I would say not all baked goods are created equal. Decided to get a scone and a cookie. The scone was good with a nice crunch. Holy big servings, Batman. I'm pretty sure the donuts were the size of the heads of the kids who ate them. A great place for a coffee/pastry/brunch stop when you're on Vashon Island. Might even be worth the ferry ride if you aren't on the island and wake up wanting an amazing croissant and coffee or tea latte. The place is located in a converted service station. Parking is not plentiful, but there is on street parking that doesn't require too much of a walk. We were there on a busy summer day and the line moved quickly and there was not too much of a wait between ordering and pastry yumminess arriving at our table. This is the coziest brunch spot I've ever been in! It felt like we were eating at our own home. The staff was incredibly warm and welcoming. It was our first time visiting Vashon Island and they were so kind giving suggestions on what to order and even gave us a generous free slice of cake to try! On top of that their food was AMAZING! I didn't even realize this was a vegetarian restaurant until after when my friend mentioned it. Aside from the brunch entrees, they have giant pastries you can choose from. If we weren't going to other spots for food I would've ordered some more to try but they're very large portions! Next time I'd like to get the cinnamon roll and one of the danishes. Yum! This is great to share with a group of friends so you can have a taste of everything. The chai latte here was the best I've had during my stay in Seattle. I'm not a coffee person so I order chai lattes at almost every cafe if it's available. They had actual spices in the drink which a lot of places lack so I really enjoyed my drink too. Snapdragon was a 10/10 - I would absolutely recommend stopping here for a bite to eat, or a pastry to go. First of all, the staff was so nice - and they were BUSY. It's just adorable inside and out, with a genuine mom and pop feel. Everything looked delicious, but we got a Maple Cronut and a Cherry and Blueberry Danish. Both were great, but the Cronut was #1.
