I want to like this place because it clearly is a homey little business by someone that cares, but honestly, the impression of caring is about where it stops because all of the food and drink was incredibly average. I really like a good coffee and I'm in Seattle and yet I can't even get one at a café? Maybe this place was really good at one point but they've just cut corners everywhere. Staff was nice to me until I asked them if it was single origin or anything else about the beans and then they just went flat. Great consistent spot on the Island! That being said, there are a few dishes that are consistently delicious - the Reuben (the mushroom version is great, but the meat one is my favorite sandwich here) and any of the espresso drinks. The staff are personable, the Wi-Fi is good, and the noise level is pretty low. So grab your coffee beverage of choice, sit down, and work away. And if you're still there at lunchtime, get the Reuben. And take half of it home, because it's a big sandwich and you'll want that other half later. read more

Decided to make our first trip to Vashon Island on a Tuesday. Alot of the eateries are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We were hungry and so we decided to try Cafe Luna. They were absolutely jammed with orders, but everyone was extremely nice. I had the turkey Panini and my partner had the grilled tuna. Both plates were absolutely wonderful as they came with a side of chips and a pickle. We just sat here and took our time eating and can't wait to come back! Came here on Saturday, June 8th. My family ordered from another place but I had taken a peek inside while in store next door & saw some yummy treats in the case! I ordered the greek salad ( pre-packaged) and a yummy flat bread type of savory baked with puff pastry crust. I have no idea what was on there but even cold, it was delicious!!! The salad had tangy large chunks of crumbly feta. The vinaigrette was also perfect! I sat outside with my family and ate on a bench- balancing my food on my lap- still a delightful lunch! read more

The coffee here is excellent - far better than any big chain with 'stars' in their eyes. :-) The food is also very good. I had a half a tuna melt and a cookie that was amazing - tons of coconut in and outside. The thing that really impressed me though was the atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be on a first-name basis with everyone else. Even a gentleman who appeared to be down on his luck was known, liked, and looked out for. I've only been in one other place where everyone was so welcoming and pleasant (and I've been in all 50 states and 4 other countries). Definitely worth a visit, or three. read more

Strawberry Festival 2023!!!! I am in one of the bands that played the festival. It's 170deg in the shade. While, that may be a lie, the rest of this review is true. At 3:30pm I roll up to the Homegrown stage, sweating and thirsty. I'm directed to Cafe Luna for an iced latte with only minutes before I perform. I enter the cafe and order/pay from one person while the other starts to prepare it. Pretty routine so far. I start getting anxious about my start time for the show. Sticking my head out the door to see if i'm late or not. Trying not to seem like an impatient fool, I step up to the counter "I'm sorry I have to go play now" and sprint out the door like it was on fire! Now on-stage for 3-4min, I turn around to see what looks like a 4'-11" angel floating towards me with a "20oz-double-iced-latte-2%". . Naw.......must be the heat (175deg by now) Yep!!! The drip coffee burnt my mouth and I informed the barista who said she would talk to her manager. I said, "You are likely brewing the coffee too hot, you may need to recalibrate the water temperature of your brewing device". I was a barista once and worked for a coffee roaster, coffee should be brewed between 195-205 degrees. 212 degrees is boiling point at sea level, and anything beyond that will not only burn a customers mouth but ruin your coffee. The barista approached the manager, who I was sitting next to and said, "A customer said the coffee is brewing too hot and she burnt her mouth", and her response was "Uh it always brews at 220. They should put ice in it." I don't need to explain how many things are wrong with this situation. I will not be coming here again. read more

This cafe feels nice and inviting, with art on the deep red walls and multiple boards with local events and services posted on the walls. They have a friendly staff and solid coffee, with pastries and other food items to choose from. Stable wifi for your laptop if you're needing to get work done. They even have a few seats out front to enjoy your beverage. Their quiche is the best I've had on the island. Nice that they are open 7 days a week; most other coffee spots on Vashon are closed at least a day a week. read more

We decided to check out Cafe Luna on our recent visit to Vashon Island. This was one of the few places open on a Monday so make sure to keep the days in mind when visiting Vashon Island. Half the town is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Due to this, Cafe Luna seemed busy but we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes before we were able to order. They have a selection of the basics you'd expect from a coffee cafe (latte, mocha, espresso, etc). They also had a few smoothie options and a selection of pre-packages gluten free cookies. The location is just off the Main Street near the Thriftway grocery store. We ordered a Mocha and a Latte and a Vegan cookie. The mocha was good. Not too late strong with a more subtle chocolate flavor. The latte needed some additional cream to help it taste more like a latte but overall it was what I would expect from a local coffee shop. After a stop at the Pharmacy (which you should also check out) we were in search of coffee, hot cider, and snacky things. We were referred to Cafe Luna by the nice folks at the Pharmacy and I'm glad we stopped by. The atmosphere is what you want in a coffee shop: laid back and comfortable with friendly people. Arguably the most popular coffeeshop of Vashon Island, located in the heart of its little downtown area. Also one of the few places you can get free WiFi and relax. Ample seating and good music. You'll find all kinds of locals hanging out any day of the week, from kids to retirees. People come to Cafe Luna to do business meetings or catch up with their best friends. The folks behind the counter have been there a good while and have a mellow, pleasant attitude. The drink selection is ample and they are excellent at substituting things like soy milk for those with special dietary needs. They also have some very good treats in the bakery case (my favorite is the pumpkin spice cake). And while I consider it amusing to add this, they have two big, comfortable restrooms covered in posters of every happening going on at the island. Strange as it sounds, I've found many an event to enjoy on Vashon Island simply by making "a pit stop". My only reasons for leaving off a 5th star are the dubious temperature setting in the Winter months, the seeming unavailability of certain food items like quiche by mid-day, and the small, over-priced sandwiches in their refrigerated case, although they do consistently have a soup option. Otherwise, I say with full confidence that this is the place to go when you need to unwind and get some work done, catch up with friends, or look for something fun to do on the island. ; ) read more
