I am positive that I have reviewed Snider Plaza before but I am being prompted to write a review, so here we ago again. I have come to really like Snider Plaza. There is a lot of retail and restaurant turnover, but there are also icons that have been there for decades: Kuby's, Banditos, Half Shells, Amore, Bubba's, and Penne Pomodoro come to mind. We also tried Coastal Cuisine several years ago and we should return since we did like it. You could establish a rotation of restaurants to eat at just on the plaza, not to mention the restaurants that are a few minutes walk along Hillcrest. This trip we discovered some new restaurants that look like they might be worth checking out. Parking can be tight but if you can find a spot, it is fun to walk the plaza and window shop or do real shopping. This time we saw some new places that offer outside seating so if you want a break from shopping, you can stop for a snack or drink of some kind and relax when the weather is nice. When you are done eating, drinking, and shopping, you can walk for a bit through the beautiful SMU campus. read more

Just across Hillcrest from SMU there is a shopping haven that has been there since 1927, named Snider Plaza. As University Park, Highland Park, and SMU grew, so did Snider Plaza to what it is today. Over the years I have come here and patronized these businesses many times! Some of my personal favorites in Snider Plaza are Jack's Burger House, Kuby's, Bubba's, and today I tried Jack & Harry's which now tops the list! My only complaint about Snider Plaza would be that sometimes parking is horrible. Parking by where you want to go is usually next to impossible. Snider Plaza is one of the oldest strip shopping centers in the world! This place was the first place to pioneer the shopping plaza type, where they included the parking around a pedestrian friendly center. The shopping center has a big fountain right in the middle of it. It's a nice place to go and sit in one of the park benches on the plaza. There are all kinds of small antique shops, small mom n' pop stores, a Christian bookstore, small hole in the wall restaurants and fancy boutique shops. It's a nice place to go for a walk to do some window shopping, with all the pedestrian friendly areas. Parking can be challenging, it's at a 45 degree angle, so it's slow getting in and out of this center. The center has a lot of Southern Methodist University Mustangs and Highland Park Scots pride. Most of the businesses proudly display the local football schedules in the windows. My favorite thing about Snider is the Kuby's German brat shop. That place is legit. read more

Parking is still a real issue for SP. One example is that they have 2 coffee shops located in close proximity along Hillcrest. At the same time, they have a pilates studio located nearby as well, also on Hillcrest. Trying to find a parking place in the morning just to grab a cup of coffee is impossible. Most all the parking spots which would normally be used for coffee shop patrons are typically occupied by empty cars. Patrons like me are forced to park along the inside of the plaza and walk around to Hillcrest which seems odd and is quite inconvenient. When I inquired with Starbucks personnel as to why there are so many empty cars occupying spaces where patrons like me would normally park, I'm told that most all of those cars are owned by folks that are in pilates classes. Seems to me that property management should instruct the pilates tenant to have their class participants park around the inside of the plaza leaving spaces for others needing to use the parking spaces along Hillcrest for the 2 coffees shops. It's a real problem that needs some attention. read more

Specialty shops...boutiques...bakeries...even a place to get healthified with some yummy smoothies and/or juice! I love making special trips to this shopping center to hit up Nekter Juice Bar or Penne Pomodoro for breakfast pizza and a mimosa. I will admit it is difficult to park here on the weekends but folks are always kind of in and out so just wait around and you should be able to steal a space. Go do some exploring! read more

Snider Plaza is a fantastic shopping/dining area near SMU.  It's a longish street, and parking can be an issue.  But, people are typically coming and going, so if you aren't going at a peak time (say, noon on Saturday when the weather's nice) then you should be able to park on Snider Plaza or someplace nearby.    This area is very pedestrian friendly, it's easy to park at one end and walk the entirety of the Plaza.  There are plenty of places to eat, including the German restaurant Kuby's, which has been a Dallas standout for decades.  There are a lot of shops, and it's not all chains, which is fantastic.  Speaking of chains, there is a CVS, which is a huge national chain.  But, it's needed in Snider Plaza, it's good to have a pharmacy or a place you can stop and hit the ATM or get a bottle of water.  This is a great area to get some lunch and do some shopping.  Highly recommended. read more

Snider Plaza is a good shopping area. It is the antithesis to Suburban sprawl and mega stores. I don't say that is a bad way because I love my mega store but the small mom and pop shops have their place as well. My guess is that Snider Plaza has about 10 restaurants in it and I think they are all independent restaurants. I guess a couple of them like Burger House, Zoes and Banditos have a couple other locations. Then, lots and lots of one off shops. Truthfully, I have never been in most of them. I know they have a christian book store names Logos, a high end florist called lane Florist, and a popular baby boutique called Baby Bliss. They also have a high end hardware store called Pierce Hardware that specializes in door knobs and cabinet pulls, etc. Kuby's the german restaurant is there, as is a small Tom Thumb, and a CVS. There are also lots of little clothing boutiques that I am not really sure of what they sell because I haven't been in most of them. Everyone complains about parking there but I really haven't had much of a problem parking. It is often pretty full but you can still find a spot. read more

Snider Plaza - Shopping Centers Near Me - Dallas, Texas

My favorite store at this great location close to SMU is Logos Book Store. The store is family owned and full of employees who really care. The bookstore always has a current selection of Christian books! The store is full of beautiful gifts and gorgeous seasonal items. This is my favorite store to find special gifts for my friends and family. There is a great children's section for mom and kids to relax, read and enjoy time together. The owners are always on top of providing the newest books available. I highly recommend Logos, your visit will be a treat! read more

I am surprised that they are not any reviews for this great classic, old-school shopping area in University Park. First built in in 1927 but not really filled out until the 40s, Snider Plaza reflects a time when charm and stylish design coexisted with the type of everyday practicality. Parkies, though they are rich still need a normal grocery store, vets, music lessons, urgent care facilities and a million other things most often found in ugly soulless suburban strip centers. What is great about Snider Plaza is that it mixes charming buildings, upscale specialty shopping, food options of all kinds and these needed practical shopping options. Snider largely has the charm and style of say Downtown McKinney but despite it's fancy address is in many ways less "gentrified." along with a large number of boutiques here is a great old school BBQ joint called Peggy Sue's, Kuby's famous sausage house, a health food store, a place that sells nothing but brass bath fixtures (who can live without those) and three banks (insert rich parkie joke here), famous fried chicken joint, a Starbucks and a CVS. This is a great mix of retail types. At the farthest end from Mockingbird there is a pocket sized Tom Thumb and a gas station/garage. Most of buildings look really great and I love the fountain and just overall layout of this area. It is not a cookie cutter perfectly designed shopping area but is not so chaotic as to make one wish for more organization. There is one enormous problem with Snider Plaza one that those more practicality minded and less prone to care about style and history would cause to mark this place down below four stars; the parking situation here can be disastrous. In the Dallas area a place full of parking nightmares on a crowded weekend and at Christmas time Snider Plaza might be the worst of them all. All the parking is old school in front of the shop spots with no real large outlying lots. There was a program underway to build a new pay garage by the outlying bank but I'm not sure how that's going besides who the hell wants to pay 5 bucks to park outside of Downtown. The obnoxious parking shows there is hope for equality in America as rich and poor, black and white all will shake there fists in rage and finding a spot. I am assume there is valet parking available at one eatery or another but I have never seen it. These parking problems are terrible at prime time shopping times but recently for an early lunch on a Monday there were a large number of spots available, so the parking problem is likely confined to weekend, holidays etc. With the exception fo the Tom Thumb Lot and maybe one or two other aresa controled by banks or medical offices all, parking is 2 hours and no businesses have exclusive parking lots, so at least when you find almost any spot anywhere it is okay to park there. Overall, I love Snider Plaza. The place feels alive, looks great and offers a large number of diverse shopping and dining opportunities. Coem during the week or get there earlier or later than most people like to shop and enjoy. read more

Snider Plaza has character, and looks like it is frozen in time. Love the wide variety of shops, and places to eat. Parking isn't that much of a pain, and is a wonderful place to stroll around on a Saturday afternoon. Some stores are closed on Sunday here. read more

The best part about Snider Plaza is when I visited Jackson Armory. They had a lot of cool antiques such as guns and books. And also the reason why I liked it is because I shot a .22 caliber rifle before. read more

Parking is not as bad as people make it out to be as long as you aren't going at noon on a weekend. Traffic flows, and I always find a great spot. The shops are great, the dining 'meh' - burger house is a staple, and for what it is, great. It needs some GMO-free organic food options, and I'd be here more often! read more
