It is a beautiful outdoor plaza conveniently located on Belt Line Rd, right off the Dallas North Tollway. Always seems clean, well-manicured landscaping - great photo spots! Wide variety of restaurants and bars to cater to different palates - Sushi, Seafood, Mexican, American, Indian, Italian - and that's not even all! Trust me, you will find something there to enjoy! No shortage of entertainment either between the movie theaters, sports bars, and pubs - Boutiques for shopping, a few day spas to choose from, well you get the gist of it! On this particular visit, I went for their second Annual Pairings in the Parkway event. For $25 (in advance, $30 on day of event) we got to sample a food and drink pairing from seven restaurants in the Parkway - The offerings are listed below. It was a good value to be able to sample some choices from so many restaurants. Event itself was not overly packed so we were able to get through most of the restaurants very quickly (individual reviews of those to follow). I was a little disappointed though, that when we went to turn in our completed food passport at the end of the event to enter into the drawing for a gift certificate, the event tents were already packed up and gone by 4:30 pm although the center stated the event ran until 5 pm. Oh well, I will consider attending again next year if they highlight different restaurants from the center. The Food/Drink we received from each participating restaurant! Snider Plaza is one of those places that I can think back over time long ago, sometime ago and yesterday. Each time period holds pleasant memories sometimes dramatic. Back before 10 speed bikes were a thing,not many people had them. The Sears catalog is where I spotted my first one and wanted one for months. Somehow I found out about the Schwinn shop in Snider Plaza. So,I saved and eventually my grandmother took me there where I purchased a bright green mens 10 speed with drop handlebars wrapped in neon green tape. I can't drive down Hillcrest and into Snider Plaza without looking over and thinking about it. These days my old stand by fried chicken institution,Bubbas Cooks Country is the reason I show up most. However, there are many other great restaurants and antique stores I visit time to time in Snider Plaza.

There is a lot of retail and restaurant turnover, but there are also icons that have been there for decades: Kuby's, Banditos, Half Shells, Amore, Bubba's, and Penne Pomodoro come to mind. We also tried Coastal Cuisine several years ago and we should return since we did like it. You could establish a rotation of restaurants to eat at just on the plaza, not to mention the restaurants that are a few minutes walk along Hillcrest. This trip we discovered some new restaurants that look like they might be worth checking out. Parking can be tight but if you can find a spot, it is fun to walk the plaza and window shop or do real shopping. This time we saw some new places that offer outside seating so if you want a break from shopping, you can stop for a snack or drink of some kind and relax when the weather is nice. When you are done eating, drinking, and shopping, you can walk for a bit through the beautiful SMU campus.

What a great addition to the neighborhood Hillcrest Village has been. The developer took a dying…read morestrip mall and turned it into a thriving community center. Essentially, they built a park, Hillcrest Village Green, and then built businesses all around it. The park serves as a gathering place before or after a meal at one of the many restaurants in the center. There is a Starbucks, Don Pepe's, Starwood Cafe, Ka Thai, Cane Russo's, Andy's Frozen Custard, Haystack Burgers, and lots more! I have been many times and my finally ALWAYS enjoys going!

The reason I am giving it a one star, is because there is not much to do, it needs a lot of updates and it's just so dead. The vive is not good at all and it's just a bunch of old memories that were left in this location! If you do not know what happened to this former Mall, here you go: Bloomingdale's, closed in 1990. The space remained empty until JCPenney came in 1996, but it later closed in 2013. By that time, two out of three of Valley View's other department stores (Macy's and Dillard's) had closed. The last remaining anchor, Sears, closed with several other stores in July 2017. The building's parking garage was demolished soon after, and now, only an AMC theater, a few art galleries and pizza joints, and a smoothie shop remains. However, there is talk that within the next 10 years, if Amazon do not accept the bid on building here, most operating stores will close too. I am very excited to see how this all unfolds, there are a few renderings and propositions on creating a MID TOWN high end with state of the art galore for us to enjoy! That would be very nice! It is an "anything-goes" art gallery featuring the work(s) of local artists, Texan artists and the work of "guests" who are national and international. But mostly up and coming Dallas artists. From $150 to $1200, you may be able to find your faux-Pollack or Basquiat (if you will) to hang on your wall (if you are so inclined.) Or just come here to look at the work of some VERY talented artists local to you. Not high art, not low art, I feel that 500X simply defies any category or labeling. It's just cool and pretty social. It is located in an oddball part of downtown that is either Deep Ellum or Fair Park or the unnamed crevice in between the two. There is no cost for parking around the building or in the vicinity, just be wary and pay attention to any no parking or tow signs. Otherwise, park where you can (no difficulties that I encountered.) Bring cash. This gallery has a 'limited' selection of beer and wine (mostly wine) and they tend to run out later in the evening as it is not a "bar." I would describe it as bohemian at it's most debonair, but built upon the most solid foundation that has apparently been here in Dallas for 30 years to date (the building it is located in has been around since 1916.) If you want to go out on the weekend and do something VERY different and meet VERY different people, go here, you'll probably end up enjoying yourself. And if you like art, or you're a patron of art, buy a painting and support the local art scene. There's some good stuff in there. Enjoy.
