Snider's closing time was 6:00pm on the day I chose to go. I showed up at 5:30pm and waited in line to get inside. I was finally next in line at 5:50pm, and a guy came out to say "we're not accepting any more customers at this point. If you want to make an appointment, I can sign you up". I said "all I need is a tube, can I just get a tube really quick?" and he said no. I know I'm not the only person who waited in line that day. I don't care if I'm being petty, I'll never come back here. It's alright though, Walmart has bike tubes all day, for like $5. read more

This review is specifically for the Snider's location on Union Avenue. I've had several decent-to-very good experiences with the Stein Road location and recommend that location regularly. Went in to have the bottom bracket faced on a mountain bike frame and went through four employees before finding someone who knew what I was talking about. Now I know that threaded bottom brackets are slowly being phased out, but this basic design has been around for well over fifty years and is still in current use. Finally, one of their mechanics grudgingly directed me to their shop on Stein Road. I went in to buy derailleur housing by the foot - the sales person handed me the housing in a bag. It wasn't until I got home that I realized that she gave me brake housing. If their employees don't have a basic understanding of bicycle mechanics, they shouldn't be selling parts or service. On my last - and admittedly ill-advised - visit, I went in to order a stem adapter (yes, an unusual part). The sales clerk didn't know what I was talking about, so he pulled out the QBP catalog. One of the mechanics came out and said that the part didn't exist. I pointed to the four adapters in the catalog. The mechanic sniffed "yeah, well those are unreliable and no one uses them". A complete lack of knowledge of physics and mechanical engineering, wrapped in condescending ignorance. I ordered a Thomson (arguably the most reliable stem manufacturer in the industry) adapter from an online bike store. I've never been back to the Union Avenue store and regularly tell friends to avoid them. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. The service guys was rude and considerably hustle. I went in to get my brakes serviced and he told me they had to be replaced. I knew he was just trying to get me to buy new brakes, but mine were old so I figured I'd get a new set. He couldn't get the shimano brakes I wanted and recommended Clark One brakes. Complete regrets all the way around. He was telling me I shouldn't have mismatched parts(SRAM and Shimano) again trying to sell me things I didn't need. He put on the Clark brakes which came with their own rotors. He never put the new rotors on, but keep them for the shop or himself???. He just left my old Shimano rotors on (so much for not mismatching parts). I went back in because the brakes weren't functioning. And again he was rude and hustle. Never resolved the issue just try charging me more. Avoid this place like the plague. Horrible parts and even more horrible service. Go anywhere else. Warning! Do not go here! read more

The staff is knowledgeable and if there's one person that isn't sure about something, they always ask another associate, which, props in my opinion. I've been shopping at Sniders for years and have alway found the service to be first class. They also have a good selection of mid-range mountain and road bike, plus most of the brand name accessories. One excellent recent addition is in the shop area where they have hired a bike mechanic (Derrick) who has attended the Specialized factory mechanic training. I recently brought my new S-Works SL4 in to him for service and was very pleased to see that he was fully aware that proper bolt tightness on a carbon bike requires a torque wrench. While I've never worried about leaving my bike for service at Sniders, it gives me a greater degree of comfort knowing that the mechanic has experience with these types of bikes. read more

Walked in here to ask for some bike info I'm interested in. I was really shocked when the kids and whoever was just mulling around twirling their thumbs had no idea what I was talking about. You're working for a bicycle store and don't know any basic info regarding bikes? Really? Why do you have to act so lost and confused. It's simple info. I'm here at a bike shop in regards to bike related info. All they really cared about was Money. How desperate are they. Very sad depressing place to go to. Please do yourselves a favor and go to any other professional establishment. This place isn't worth it. They don't really care about anyone's wellbeing other than money. I really want to like Sniders as they are a local company. I bought a nice Schwin there a few years ago. They offer lifetime free tune ups. Well I took it for a tune up and they had it for 3 weeks. The gears had always been very hard to switch into 3. When I picked the bike up it was still nearly impossible and the mechanic tried and tried but was not able to get it to work properly but suggested I buy thumb gears. Also the front brakes still rubbed which he wasn't able to adjust. So basically what I got was the new saddle and tubes which I chose to purchase in addition to the free tune up. They are all very nice people but after 3 weeks I thought standard adjustments could be accomplished. I need my bike now for a challenge I'm doing so I can't wait another 3 weeks for them to try again when I saw clearly they could not achieve it. So I guess I'll go to Youtube and attempt it myself. UNION LOCATION ONLY If you enjoy feeling belittled, and completely out of place when it comes to your knowledge of cycling, Snider's is for you. Ironic, their name, being that ALL of my questions were met with SNIDE comments. I went in with the intent of buying a new single speed/fixed gear rear wheel for my 10spd road bike conversion. After asking for specific wheel I was interested in, A male associate said "No one really runs those anymore, you should take your old rim and convert it for what your looking for. Your going to need this Origin8 single speed conversion kit (and a bunch of other useless items and tools)." Me, having confidence that a fairly popular and local bicycle shop had employees that knew what they were talking about, I purchased his recommendations. He had said that this kit will fit ANY road bike with proper tools. To my dismay, he was incorrect. My rim was not compatible. I had already attempted the conversion, so the package was open. In frustration, I returned to the store with rim and kit in hand and asked for the employee who sold it to me. After some chitter chatter and "shhhhh"s coming from the back, someone came out and said he wasn't in today. I explained my situation to THIS employee, and he looked at my rim and chuckled saying " Yeah, that won't work." I asked what, if there was, anything he could do. He replied, "Nope." I asked for the manager, he said " I can get him but he isn't going to do anything." With no intent of going to prison, I left before I lost it. IF YOU PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM SNIDER'S DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THEM AFTER THE PURCHASE. I try to shop local, and figured their would be a bit of care for their customers, unlike any larger retailer. Wrong. If they had any knowledge at all of bicycles, he would have asked me a few, very simple and common questions about WHAT I wanted to do, WHAT ideas I had, WHAT kind of bicycle I had etc. If you are a beginner, new to road bikes, or just plain don't know the BIKE SNOBS that work there, in your personal life, consider ordering online. God forbid that you come in their store not knowing the EXACT part name, or want advice on something that the employees think is "played out", expect to be met with an "I'm better than you" attitude. I bought my first 18 speed bike from Sniders about 6 years ago to ride on the bike trail. I rode about two city blocks and had two flat tire from stickers. Back to Sniders. They replaced the tires with heavy duty tires, tubes and some kinda green goo to prevent leaks. No charge. Stand up Business. Don't hesitate to include them in your shopping, although they are generally higher priced, they will negotiate on a same bike to bike comparison. Larry "O" read more

I spend a good deal of my time trying to get others to use local vendors. Snider's will never get my business or recommendation again! They can't service a bike correctly. Go Somewhere else. I asked them to save a part from my bike which I paid them to replace and they couldn't even do that. Their only response was "sorry we must have thrown it away". The trip computer may not have been important to them but during our 5 minute discussion about it I specifically asked them to save it. The guy tells me I should have made them put it in writing.
