We were debating spending $20+ dollars on a haircut for our 11 month old - after all, couldn't any hair salon do it for less? He didn't even have THAT much hair, for Pete's sake! Then I attempted to cut it at home in an effort to save some dough. He wiggled, he waggled, he arched his back and thrust his arms into the sky like some sort of 27 lb demon. So in order to avoid chopping off part of my child's ear ala Vincent Van Gogh, I decided to leave it to the professionals. My mom kindly offered to pay for the first visit since I kept waffling about the price - reason #7241 she's the best grandma ever! All I can is say, money well spent! Rosa is amazing, she was so great with my Nathaniel, he didn't cry at all! She was gentle, patient and great about helping keep him occupied the entire time so there was minimal head turning and twisting about. They have awesome seats for the little ones to sit in, including a taxi, police car, a train and a spaceship. Each station has a TV with a kid friendly movie showing (this time it was Coco) and there's also the option to play a video game for bigger kids. The location is great too - it's right below the Yorktown Mall food court so when they told us we'd have a small wait (15 minutes), we went upstairs and grabbed a quick snack before heading back downstairs for the trim. For those that may be concerned about the price like this budget-wise mama was, Tuesday's are reduced price for toddlers ages 1-3! Highly recommend Snippet's and especially Rosa. read more

It was a tuesday during spring break. We arrived around 2:30 and waited 1.5 hours for my niece to get a haircut. They said they would call when it was our turn so we got to walk around and shop while we waited. Once we got there, the haircut took about 10-15 minutes and she did a great job of keeping my niece comfortable. The haircut turned out just fine, my sister and my mom had specific requests she was able to follow and was very nice about it. If your child has any type of texture to their hair, I would suggest trying a different place. Not only was the quality of work done by Karla less than desirable, the response from the Manager (I believe the name was Julie), was disappointing. The most bothering issue was the fact that the price I was quoted over the phone changed drastically when my husband brought my daughter in. And because my husband didn't know any better, he fell for it. Long story short, I called in the morning and spoke with a young lady on the phone. She was very nice and helpful. (As was the young lady that answered the phone in the evening. Their names were Liz and Francis. I would give both of their customer service a 5) When speaking to her I asked if they had anyone that did "mixed hair." I explained my daughter is 1/4 black and has curly, puerto rican-like, hair. I'm 50% black, 50% white. We had a very thorough conversation about hair texture. She stated Karla was black and Mexican. I told her I wanted a wash, cut, blow out and flat iron for my 6 yr old daughter. She explained it would be $22 for the cut, $22 for the blow out but could be more depending on the "kinkiness" of my daughter's hair. And $10 for the flat iron. I said ok. I said I'm sure my daughter's hair is on the low end of "kinkiness." Like I said, I'm mixed, I have "mixed" hair and I'm 41....I've been dealing with this for a while. I've gotten my hair done at all types of salons, in the city and suburbs, I know how this works. So I said completely understand the process. I'm thinking this situation is pretty cut-and-dry so I send my husband (bald white guy that knows nothing about this stuff....huge mistake on my part) to take my daughter cuz I had something else I had to do. Well he brings home my daughter who has a puffy head of hair that is wavy in some places and still has split ends. I'm looking at her hair thinking "what is this," but didn't want to act like anything because I didn't want to upset her. So I'm just asking him questions trying to understand....he said they did not flat iron it and the total was $54. THAT'S when I had a problem. He said that the blowout was $35 and he said that the woman said her hair didn't need to be flat ironed. He said she was acting like she didn't want to flat iron it. He said she kept asking him about the length it was being cut and just kept saying "are all the split ends gone?" My husband then paid and tipped generously because he had no idea what was going on and he knows I get on him about tipping properly. I called the salon within 10mins of them getting home to discuss the issue the manager. The young lady on the phone listens and said the manager will call me. She calls me back the next day. She just kept stating that they told my husband the price before they did it and if he didn't want to pay that he could have just said no. I said I understand that. What I don't understand is how the blowout went from $22 to $35 when I KNOW my daughter's hair is definitely on the bottom end of the spectrum if we're talking about "kinky." She just kept saying the stylist makes the determination and he could have said no. I state that what was told to me over the phone was very misleading. It's like getting quoted something just to get me there and then jacking up the price. She says that they don't give quotes over the phone. I explained to her exactly what the conversation was that I had with the girl but she just kept saying my husband could have said no. She didn't have an explanation for why it wasn't flat-ironed but said that if that's what my husband would have told them to do, they would have done it. He said he told her that his wife said to flat iron it but she said that it didn't need to be flat ironed so he just said ok. (Which he won't make that mistake again...) I don't know how a professional hair stylist would have let a client, no matter the age, walk out of their chair with the way my daughter's hair was. How she could have even suggested it didn't need to be flat ironed is beyond me. So besides the poor quality of work, my bigger issue was the mishandling of the situation that I brought to the manager. If it weren't for the issue with the pricing I would have never even called the salon. I would have just chalked it up to another place that doesn't know how to do hair like that and kept it moving....but to send my daughter home with her hair like that and then over charge...that's messed up. So I call to speak with a manager, that makes it all worse....NOPE, NEVER AGAIN! The only reason they even got 2 stars is because of the pleasant attitudes of the 2 young ladies I spoke to. read more

I take my 2 year old son here for his trims. On Tuesdays they have a toddler discount. They have the train and police cars for the kids to sit in, and a tv to distract them. I think we've seen 3 different ladies there and each one did a great job. VERY fast (which is necessary with a toddler) yet also very calm. Just last year, my child acted like instead of getting her haircut that she was getting her head cut off. It was very tramatic and horrible for both her and me. This year, we decided to take her to Snippet's. She needed a haircut, and barely lets me touch her hair as is, so I figured I give this place a shot. The place is decorated like a huge aquarium and Finding Nemo was on the tv. My daughter instantly loved it. This is the third time for our 16 month old. It's a great place for a young child's haircut. The seats are like cars from s merry go round. Disney movies play on tv but the barbers are the stars with patience, talent & tenderness. Our barber can cut easily, keep a toddler calm and give him a line like a grown man. We've been here several times now...and yes, it is a bit on the high end for a kids' haircut BUT we found out the hard way that it's worth it to pay a little more to cut our son's hair. We brought our son here for his first haircut thinking the 'kid friendly' atmosphere would help...it didn't. He just didn't like the idea of someone cutting his hair. However, we have a video now of this traumatic experience for all of us to watch for years to come. In the end, his first haircut turned out wonderful though, he looked adorable. We then went to one of those 'cheap chains' for the next hair cut...big mistake. It was a terrible haircut and it wasn't that much cheaper than Snippet's, not to mention we were back at Snippet's within a month to get his haircut AGAIN to fix the other place's mistake. My son has now had his 3rd haircut from Snippet's and I couldn't be happier. This most recent visit, his hair was a bit crooked but I didn't notice it until the next day. I called the next day and they gladly made room for us and corrected the issue (basically gave him a whole new haircut) free of charge. Sunny is wonderful, kind and patient. My son has processing delays and may be on the autism spectrum. Whenever we get a cut it is pure hell for me. The stylists are always so patient with him. Never expressed signs of being exasperated. Always reassuring me. Its been tough on me taking him to get his hair cut. His lack of regulation is a source of anxiety but each time I walked out very pleased and comforted. These stylist do not discriminate children with delays. Id ask to just give a clean cut and if needed go ahead and rush. They dont, I believed it was Anna who said she enjoyed the challenge. She refused to give up and got through the hair cut despite him trying to jump out his seat. I took my 1 year old son here for his first haircut. I booked a First Cut Package, which includes a video of your child's first haircut. When I got there, they told me their camera was down and couldn't record the haircut for me. I wish they would've told me this earlier, so I could've gone to another location. Luckily, I had my phone and was able to record it myself. My son had fun sitting in a little car, while he got his hair cut but the hairstylist cut my son's bangs unevenly. First let's start off with what a joke this place is, not the decor but because of the type of child hating person that works there. I can deal with the girl (front desk) talking to a couple of her friends because she still handled us with a business like manor. When it comes to my daughters haircut the Stylist wouldn't even acknowledge us or talk to us, she looked straight thru us. When the movie Finding Dory came on she turned my daughter's head straight instead of turning the chair/car so that the movie would distract her and she didn't even try to engage my daughter (3yrs old). Bottom line, I believe her name was Jasmine, how could you possibly hate life so much that you couldn't even acknowledge a parent or their child that you're supposed to professionally service? Keep in mind the the haircut(didn't even spray my daughters hair with water while cutting it) was $20 waste of money ,tip was $5 because I felt bad for the fact that she hates whats she does for a living and prob lives an unfulfilled life. Pleasantly surprised! Out shopping with the wife and kid and we come upon this salon for kids. I have had a couple bad experiences with "places for kids" in the past and I was really hesitant on coming in, but I am sure glad I did. The girl at the receptionist desk greeted us when we came in and as she was explaining to my wife the prices I was scoping out the stylists to see which one we should pick. My wife and I were both satisfied with this one stylists who just finished on another little boy and we didn't even have to ask for her, because she was the next available one. She introduced her self as Carla to us and to our son and proceeded to guide him to the real cute race car you had. She (Carla) asked us exactly how we wanted our sons hair cut and as she began to cut,she started talking to not only us, but included our son in the conversation. My son who is very shy seemed to warm up to her which made it easier on all of us I guess you can say. To make a long story short, she did probably the best hair cut my son has had in a long time and she made my son feel really comfortable. As I said, I was doubtful towards the beginning, but my wife and I both agreed we would be back the next time we are at Yorktown Mall. read more

I've been taking my children to various Chicagoland establishments for haircuts for over 5 years. No complaints what-so-ever, all have been great, until we went to Snippets. The actual haircut was fine, although unbelievably slow. The stylist was in slow motion, which is not a good thing for a kid's haircut. My complaint stems from the attitude of the manager behind the desk on the afternoon of March 29th. If I owned this Snippets, I would fire her. Lazy, horrid customer service, and she was on personal phone calls the entire 65 minutes we waited for our appointment. We were a walk in, and were given an estimated wait time of 15 minutes. If we had been told an hour, we would have shopped and come back! The worst part was, she did not care at all. Complete indifference, and in fact, smug. The receptionist/manager position should be replaced with a sign in board, and another stylist. Much better use of payroll. read more

Unfortunately, my son does this while getting his hair cut. He screams, cries, chest thumps (Celine) and has the diva attitude (Mariah). Meghan, the hair stylist, is a miracle worker and must be both a yogi and an alligator wrestler on the side since she can calmly cut hair while wrangling my toddler. Now that's beyond kid-friendly. My toddlers historically despise getting their hair cut, and so are really scared and crying when they do. The stylist here are so good with them, though! Even when my boys are having a hard time and I'm having to hold them in my lap, they come out with a great hair cut. Be sure to make an appointment so that you don't have to wait in line. We also like to have lunch afterwards, and it's helpful because I can sometimes see an imperfection (I don't blame them AT ALL! How challenging it must be to cut a wiggly/crying boy's hair!) and then the stylists just clean it up when we are on our way out after lunch. Over time my boys have come to enjoy going and picking out which car they want to sit in, watching paw patrol, and having their sticker at the end! read more

We took my 2 year old daughter there to give some shape to her curly mullet. I was nervous to get her first cut thinking that it would just make it worse or that I would regret doing it. I am pleased to say that they did a great job. Meghan cut her hair and was great with her. I am not sure my daughter knew she was getting her hair cut because she was occupied driving the taxi she was in while watching Nemo. They did exactly what I asked and her hair looks great. We still have a mullet, but that will take some time to grow out. The best part was that I recorded the entire thing and she was done cutting her hair in less than 2 minutes. Love this place I live far from them but I rather make the drive all the way from Logan square to Lombard, cause the 2 snippet close to me that's on Clybourn and southport aren't as flexible with their time as this place. The times I've gone to clybourn they always give buts and excuses. One time at the one in Clybourn i had gotten there a couple to just about an hour to closing time, and was told that they were only gonna be able to take 2 outta my 3 boys because it was almost gonna be closing time, although at the end they ended up taking them all 3, and finish way before closing time.
