The customer service is the worst I've encountered, first they hung up on me and then i called back, asked to speak to a manger, said ok at first until i explained what happend then he said there wasnt one... was not helpfull at all, was very rude, yelling at me, talking over me and was making no sense in what he was saying. Never going to deal with them again, they said my account is rent to rent, not rent to own, and i stated this account over 3 years ago and i know picked rent to own, and they didnt even ask me that question because we originally returned it then went back to rent it again, and the second time they didnt even ask me and they are saying i cant use my $1660 dollars towards purchasing a cello, when they keep sayin i can use that money towards a new cello..... they dont know what they are talking about and they keep hiding behind eachother its disgusting. Instead of ordering online with another big box music store or directly from Fender, thought I'd do my business here to help local employment, as Fender's online store listed them as an authorized Fender dealer, before that never knew about this chain but glad I found them. Not only did they have the getting hard to find Fender Mustang Micro guitar headphone amp, but discounted from list $119 to $99. Sales person Francisco was great, sale had just ended but display case still had the sale price so he honored it like all stores should. I brought a trumpet in with a stuck mouthpiece. The salesman crushed in the bell bow of the trumoet while he worked to remove the moithpiece. While they offered to have their inhouse repair tech fix the damage, the refused conversation for me to send my instrument to my regular repair tech. I contend that if the face of their company is so inept as to damage an instrument while removing a mouthpiece, how can they be trusted any further. read more

My wife went to the Lacey, WA store on April 09,2021 to inquire about purchasing a flute. The manager told her she can get several flutes to try before buying but would need to conduct a credit check. The manager was told by my wife and by me, her husband, that we do not want to apply for a credit card because we did not want to damage our credit. The manager assured us that it is just a credit check and not a credit card application. With the assurance, we agreed to the credit check and ordered 3 flutes to try. About a week later, we received a Music and Arts credit card. I called the store and asked the manager what had happened, and she stated she did not know and would get back to me. I did not receive any status until I called the manager again and she stated that there was a policy change she did not know about, and you must apply for credit a credit card for the credit check. Because of this, my wife's credit took a 21-point hit. The manager stated she will try to get this resolved, but the only wat to get any information is for me to go to the store or for me to call. We have been getting the run around and the manger does a poor job of getting us any information or status about these issues. I gave them an option of letting us purchase a flute with a discount for all the trouble, but now we are being told the flutes cannot be shipped until September. I have sent emails to the District Manager, and she does not reply to any of my emails. I did not want to pursue litigation, but this may be the only way for my wife's credit to be repaired or get anything done with this company. read more

Went to this little shop last summer to get a viola for my daughter who was starting orchestra. When I got there the woman who helped me was super friendly and got my daughter sized perfectly for an instrument (wish I could remember her name). She was obviously super knowledgeable on orchestra instruments and even gave my daughter a mini lesson on how to hold the viola. I went back later to exchange for a bigger size and unfortunately the same woman was no longer there but the other employees were just as helpful and got it exchanged in no time. If I could give them ZERO I would. I have had a pretty good experience with the local store in Lacey, WA overall but dealing with the corporate office is a nightmare! Called, can't even get through to speak with someone, emailed NOPE they don't respond to that either. When I called the number listed on my credit card statement, I spoke with a person who was quite unhelpful. His advice to me was be able to pay my credit card or return their instrument. Well Sir, thanks for nothing, he was not willing to do anything but talk over me and be condescending the entire time. I called the local store and was informed again, that they will try to work with corporate to get my account in order (because instead of the old trumpet that I have almost paid off - they have an expensive violin listed) hopefully this time, the manager at this location can figure it out, otherwise, I have to cancel my credit cards because this company will just keep charging me for an instrument that I don't even have. I've been coming here for years for guitar lessons in the back. There's two rooms for lessons toward the back of the store and its a great place for guitar lessons. Mike Esparza is an awesome teacher and great guitarist (though he's not an employee of South Sound Music). The store is rather small. The staff and owner are friendly. The store does have a good selection of well made, but less common brands of instruments, including several quality instruments made locally. The store does not carry lots of mainstream instruments (no American made Fender Strat), but other than that this is a good place to stop in. The store also rents band instruments for school-aged kids. This is not a service I've used, but they seem to bring in lots of customers for this. read more

Called them to inquire about a new trumpet case for my son. Spoke to a very nice gentleman named Don. Went there in the evening to purchase the case with my son, as they are conveniently open late(till 9pm I think). They were very nice to my son as he was the customer, I just pay for it. Don was nice enough to take a look at his trumpet and recommend that he get it professionally cleaned as the slide would not move. It is a very old trumpet. Good for a beginner. Nice folks and we will go back. read more

I had an excellent experience at this shop. I didn't catch the name of the person who I spoke to, but they were incredibly helpful and personable. When the product I was searching for wasn't available in the store, they offered to have it shipped to my house at a discounted price. Customer service was incredible and I left feeling better taken care of than at most other music stores I frequent. read more

I am very upset about the quality of service I have experienced at the Lacey store. Back track a little bit; I had set up a rental with the West Olympia locate 4 years ago on a flute. Had no issues. Service was great. Music & Arts has since closed that location and the only one here now is the Lacey store. In August 2017 I went in to get an Oboe rental for my daughter. I know nothing about musical instruments and my daughter was new to this one. At the at time I purchased 3 reeds for her as per the teachers request. My daughter's reeds continued to break easily so I had to go back in to purchase more of them. They at that time did not have anymore in stock and had to place an order. They referred me to their competitor Music 6000, literally around the corner from them. A month later I needed to get more reeds and they still did not have any in stock. Again referring me to their competitor. I then learned from the teacher that her reeds are breaking so easily because her Oboe needs repair. I went back to the store to turn it in to the shop for repairs. They did not have a loaner Oboe for her to use for the week it was in the shop. When I went back to get it there were 12 things wrong with the instrument that were caused by wear and tear over years not 2 months. I asked why these repairs were not done before renting it out again. They said that "sometimes things get overlooked." During this same time I began a rental with the violin for my 5th grader and I provided them with the size needed per the teacher's measurements. As I said before I know nothing about instruments. I then learned from the teacher that the size I got was incorrect. It was much larger and could put strain on my daughters arm, wrist and hand. I went back to the store and they had the tags for the size I needed placed on the wrong instrument. Again they said, "sometimes things get overlooked". They gave me a different violin and the next day I was informed by the teacher that the bow that was provided in the case with the violin was for a Cello not a violin. In fact that bow could get cause damage to a violin if used on it. GREAT! Back to the store I go. Same response, "sometimes things get overlooked". At this point I am tired of dealing with them. TO TOP IT ALL OFF: I wanted to file a complaint so that Corporate knows how their business is being run. I called customer service on Monday morning. I was on hold for 10 minutes then decided to leave a message. With no call back I called again on Tuesday afternoon. Again, on hold for over 10 minutes before the call was disconnected. Frustrated by now I waiting until today, Wednesday to call again. I waited for over 12 minutes and then Brandon answered the phone. I told him I had a complaint on one of his stores. Who should I speak to about this. He told me to tell him. I began to explain all of this I have just typed out for you and he made no sounds, no comments on the other end of the phone. When I was finished I asked him. Do you just type this up or do you need me to speak to someone else. He said, I am listening to what you are saying." I said, ok so what do we do from here? I got no response. No noise on the other end at all. I then said, should I speak to a supervisor who might be able to help me? He said "help you with what?" I said my complaints...I want to be reassured that these issues will be resolved and not happen to someone else. I told him can you imagine if I have 3 issues on 2 instruments and I am only 1 customer. How many others are having some problems also? Maybe not calling to tell you and just going somewhere else? Again, Silence. I then said through the silence, "Are you going to type this out? Are you going to share this with your supervisor? Where does this go from here? Hello? Are you new here? Hello?" He came back on and said, "No I am not new here. I did type this out and this will go to my supervisor." My last question was if this call was recorded and he said yes. I ended it with "GOOD"! I have had enough! Final straw! Save yourself the time and stress and go somewhere else! read more
