Maybe. But Java Owl makes a strong case that Clear Lake has been hiding a little strange magic of its own. It is bright, clean, odd in the best possible way, and alive with the feeling that something interesting might happen before you finish your cup. Now, the important part: the coffee. I judge a place by the black cup. No sugar, no milk, no whipped cream masquerading as personality. Just coffee, exposed and unprotected. Java Owl passes that test. The roast has character. It tastes like someone cared. It does not taste like the sad, scorched sludge you get from places that treat coffee beans like evidence to be burned. And if you want something more elaborate, they have that too. The specialty drinks rotate, mutate, and show up with a kind of reckless creativity that works more often than it has any right to. Every visit seems to bring some new concoction, some fresh little act of caffeinated imagination. Late nights at the Owl are their own species of entertainment. Beer, wine, conversation, and the grand old human circus of people watching. Someone might break into "Sweet Caroline." Someone else might decide the room needs a guitar solo. You do not so much sit there as get folded into the scene. It is noisy, warm, occasionally ridiculous, and never dull. Somehow, the place manages to be both energetic and peaceful, which should be impossible and yet is not. Good coffee, good people, a little music, a little chaos, and staff who seem genuinely happy to be there. The positivity is not the forced kind. It is not laminated corporate cheer. It is real enough that you can walk in tired and walk out a little lighter. So yes, go. Go to see and be seen, sure. But more than that, go because places like this matter. Java Owl is coffee, community, weirdness, and warmth in a town that could use more of all four.

Now to August they have a summer menu, from which we got the lemonade pie, cookie butter latte and tres leches latte. The tres leches latte was okay, it was just milky coffee which considering its tres leches seems about right. I preferred the cookie butter latte as it had a stronger taste of the flavoring. Although I will say we got two cookie butter lattes one with oatmilk one with regular milk and in the oatmilk one the cookie flavor was much more prominent so I would recommend getting oatmilk in it, if you decide to try it. The lemonade pie was really though, I always enjoy the baked goods they have. We went through the drive thru, and were the only ones in line at the time so we were greeted and serviced fairly quickly.

It was briskly busy, went up to the window and ordered some chorizo and egg tacos. The young lady at the window told me it would be around a 12 min wait so no worries there. She also directed me to the free mother's day flower table. I was a little skeptical at first but saw quite a few people getting their bouquets. While I was waiting the owner Maritza came up to me and introduced herself. She said they have been in business for around two years and struck an agreement with the property owners to stay at the park until her brick and mortar plans materialize. She also said the catering they do of coffee bars and their breakfast items are popular for many occasions. The tacos were delicious and stuffed. It was a real treat. I really enjoyed my visit here that day and you should too!

More than other coffee shops in the area. And the last 2 times I went inside, it was quite chaotic. One time there were little children taking up most of the small place with toys scattered all over the floor. I was hoping to just sit and quietly enjoy my coffee, but ended up taking it to go. The owners and employees are very nice, but I probably won't return.
