Very hospitable. My husband and I stopped to get 2 plates to go and showed up a little after closing time and they even opened for us.

First trip to the Cuban Cafe was a cool experience. We're new to the area and wanted to try a new spot. As soon as you enter you're greeted and the music had us dancing. The menu was overwhelming and the staff was very patient with us. My husband liked his breakfast sandwich and I enjoyed my Cuban sandwich. I ordered an iced coffee and it was massive. A bit too sweet for my taste, but still pretty good. I love guava and cheese empanadas, but this one had cream cheese that was a bit overpowering. We definitely will go back and try some other things from the menu. It was nice having a meal in there because the smells and sounds felt like home. read more

Really enjoyed discovering this place during our stay in Baytown. Our vegetarian omelette was quite delicious. The Cuban sandwich in all honesty could have been better but it was decent enough. Ok, so I met the owner and they were telling me how good their Cuban food is. They are not Cuban, but I figured I'd give it a chance. I asked what the most popular menu item is, as I am very partial to ropa vieja. I was told it was either that or the pan con bistec. I went with the sandwich. OMG!!!!! The pressed bread was followed by the crisp crunch of fresh veggies, then the tender beef. Too many times, a sandwich like this uses low quality beef that you have to gnaw through. This required no pressure to get through. I'm glad I didn't order a side, because the sandwich was so filling. The restaurant's tables were full of multiple ethnicities, so you know it good. Yes, we drove from North Houston after seeing this on Chris Shepherd's Eat Like A Local show. Really enjoyed eating here. Service was fast and friendly. I had a breakfast Cubano that had sausage, egg, and cheese. So good. The bread is the standout feature. It was a big sandwich, but I didn't feel stuffed afterwards. One of the breakout sides was the hash brown skillet potatoes. They honestly tasted like my Dad made many years ago, and literally brought a tear to my eyes. Delicious. read more

Food: I ordered the Cuban Sandwich which was good. I also purchased a pineapple drink that haven't seen or tasted in a couple of decades. I'm not a soda drinker but I just had to purchase one and it was just as delicious as I remembered it. Service: I walked in and no one else was there except two employees who were speaking to each other. I had to practically stare at one in order to get some attention. I was addressed in English but of course, as an AfroLatina, I responded in Spanish. Afterwards, I felt completely ignored especially since I was the only customer in the cafe and the employees continued to speak loudly to each other. Finally, a delivery guy showed up and it was an instant celebration amongst them. When my sandwich was ready, it was placed on the counter without a simple acknowledgement. They could've said something like, "ma'am, here's your sandwich, I hope you enjoy it. Atmosphere: The restaurant was clean on the exterior and interior. While the walls are unfinished and it would be nice if the construction materials weren't strewn about, the food makes up for the ambiance. We came for breakfast and the Cuban breakfast sandwich is a winner. I might have asked for it with mustard if I tried it again, but the bread is a winner. This is one of the best Cuban restaurants around! I ordered the Ropa Vieja plate. They have it as a sandwich too and that's also delicious. The actual plate is only a dollar more and comes with much more. I would recommend getting the plate so you can try three side items and get the full experience of a traditional Cuban dinner. They close early and stay kind of busy. I was able to find a table during peak lunch hours though. If you want to try authentic Cuban food this is the place to go. read more

Houston is expecting its snow tomorrow - which, as u know, is something extremely rare , so before the highways closed today we ventured out to the Cuban Cafe. Well, a little gem I should say. Melissa, she owns the Cafe btw, was super sweet and friendly. It was a Cuban cafe so we wanted to have something Cuban, she suggested we go with the Cafe Con Leche, a Cuban latte version. It was hot and very yummy. To accompany the coffee we got the Veggie sandwich- which consisted of roasted veggies in a fresh Cuban bread. Was satisfied and ready to leave when my partner realized they had french toast and promptly ordered one - he enjoyed it. With the snow and Covid combined, we were the only couple seated, everyone else walked in for a to-go. Melissa was very cheerful and helpful, she even walked over to turn the heater on which she had completely forgotten about since nobody was walking in to actually sit and eat. She has an amazing collection of money from all over the world which she displays very proudly like a piece of art- Now... who would not love money art. A good weather is all the place needs. It has a bay close by , its cute, its far away yet so close (about 35 min from Downtown) .... u just have to pretend the huge smoke factories you need to cross to get there do not exist ;). This place slaps. Incredible hole in the wall Cuban place I love it here. Anyone in Baytown has to know about this place. I'm obsessed with the Cuban coffee. That hint of sweetness you just can't get anywhere, and I was wired all day. Definitely packs a punch with the caffeine. Outside of the coffee I get the Cuban sandwich. Such a simple pressed sandwich but it tastes so good and it's so affordable. Their service is so quick too, man they are speedy. It is a tiny space though and there's not much seating, but I haven't had a problem getting it even during busy hours. Probably my favorite lunch spot! read more

Randomly found this spot on yelp as I was searching for somewhere to eat. I placed a to go order for a Cuban and some platanos maduros. The lady told me it would be about 5 minutes. I showed up ten min later and it was ready to go! Upon arrival the spot was cute, very home like, it has a few tables set up so that you can sit and eat inside if you'd like. I was given free samples of the coffee without even asking, just because I was curious. I was asked several times if everything was good and if I needed anything else.
