Our experience was pleasant and memorable after some changes. Long story short, we moved our spot twice and my son moved his once.. We ended up next to each other in the redwood loop. Was it perfect? No, but we made it work quite nicely;) The bigger your rig the fewer spots. Also some nice spots only have 15 amp service. There are a few loops that were way too far up and away. Collette and Matt were friendly and happy to help us get spots next to each other which wasn't easy. Beautiful campground in the Tahoe National Forest. The clubhouse was great with all the things! Pool table, foosball, ping pong, games for all ages! There was pickleball, shuffleboard, tetherball, and horseshoe pits. There was a heated pool and a playground that badly needs an upgrade. Live music and smores/campfire on Saturday night! There are no fires in campgrounds (propane ok). Atv trails everywhere. Kayak and paddle boat rentals. There are also cabins and yurts. I can see how this review could have been less had it not been for Collette and Matt working with us. We can't wait to be back and have now chosen our preferred spots;) read more

We loved this place when we came a few years ago, so I was excited to get back. But we were greeted with, "The power has been out since yesterday. We don't know when it will be back on." And you didn't call your incoming campers??! We could have brought a generator and/or coolers if we had known. But instead, hundreds of dollars in food went bad and we had to throw it out. We worked so hard to get up here and spent so much time and effort preparing. I hate to just leave. But I don't know how much longer we can stick this out. There are also way more people here this time, and the bathroom and dump station are closed. I'm so frustrated. Also, any "premium" sites that aren't right next to the water aren't worth the effort. All you can see is campers and trees, not a single speck of the lake. They should remove all of those trees. read more

Lots of atv riding, noisy. Many dogs off leash and aggressive. As a dog owner who follows the rules it's quite annoying having other peoples dogs make it uncomfortable for others. Beautiful site. Water calm and great for kayaking or paddle board or tubing. Power outage middle of day. lots of shade. Several areas of beach hoarded by single family so made it difficult to find an area to hang out. Overall the place was nice but would think twice about coming back due to off leash dogs read more

UPDATE: Now I understand all the negative reviews! I didn't even know the Tahoe and Sierra campground loops existed, but they changed my review substantially! Campsite loops Fawn, Middle Fawn and Lower Fawn still get 5 stars from me. Redwood is very nice as well. But, for the first time in a half dozen visits to Snowflower, we were directed to the Sierra or Tahoe loops. And although the sites are probably "ok," these two loops are VERY FAR from the lake!!! And for me, the lake and proximity to the lake are what make Snowflower. Note: Snowflower's resort map is not even close to scale and is highly misleading! Had we been camping with our dirt bikes the distant upper edge campsites might have been acceptable. But we came to kayak, let the dog swim and chill by the lake. So being forced to camp in the dusty middle of nowhere/BFE*, Sierra or Tahoe loops, we decided we were just going to leave instead. And, yeah, there's no refunds, but we saw no redeeming features to the BFE loops. We would have excepted the dollar loss and gone somewhere else. I guess that's the downside of the double edged sword of "first come, first served." So as we're headed out to leave, anticipating an argument trying to get a refund and debating whether it was even worth trying, we drove through the "booked solid" Fawn loops and found PLENTY of open sites! So although we couldn't get our favorite sites, at least we weren't out in the middle of nowhere! We salvaged our stay at Snowflower -- this time. It's my contention that Snowflower should entirely "uncouple" the Tahoe and Sierra loops -- and everything else they have so far from the actual resort. Make them an entirely separate entity. Book them apart from Snowflower because they're SO FAR REMOVED from lake, the pool or ANY of Snowflower's positive attributes. Or implement a reservation system, like they do for the cabins, and reserve specific campsites as well. I suspect the reason you can't book a specific site is because few would book the sites way up the hill. I'll only return to Snowflower -- formerly my favorite RV camping experience -- if I can get a guarantee we won't be relegated to BFE. But I'm afraid that guarantee will never come... *BFE: Slang. Great, why did you put me here. After hours so now I wait until morning and see if maybe there's another spot I can move to. Update: came out in the morning and worked on the power. I have been a Thousand Trails member for over 5 years, and I've never experienced something this bad. The customer service was absolutely horrible. One of the staff members was nothing but rude. no friendliness, just pure attitude. And do they seriously not have a heater for the pool? The water was freezing cold, and even after asking, they never bothered to turn the temperature up. For a place that's supposed to provide a relaxing getaway, this was a complete disappointment. Between the rude staff, lack of basic amenities, and zero care for the comfort of their guests, I can honestly say this was the worst Thousand Trails experience I've ever had. Let me make a list of what is wrong with Snowflower resort... The new assigned site process, we made our reservation 2 months ago and ended up on the top of the mountain and were told hope you have 4WD, we have never had a site that high up and to find our site the signs are either faded or non existent. There were campers that made reservations 2 weeks ago that got prime sites while all the "newer" members or those with membership under a year got the crappy sites. The campsites in general are horrendous, they need to be graded, leveled, and graveled, the roads need to be graded as well. Half the sites you couldn't even use because they still had large logs across them. We saw one employee drive through the campground and didn't even stop to check on those of us in the "high" country. All he did was drop off a picnic table that wasn't destroyed while the table at our site looks like it was crushed by a tree and was left for other campers to get injured by it. read more

If I can give it 0 stars I would. I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at this RV resort was disappointing enough that I felt it needed to be shared. As a paying member, I expected at least a basic level of customer service but instead, I was met with rude and unprofessional behavior. One of the staff members made me feel genuinely uncomfortable and harassed, which is completely unacceptable anywhere, let alone at a place where guests are supposed to relax and feel safe. The management seemed indifferent to the issue, which only made things worse. To top it off, the pool was freezing cold no heater, no notice, just an unpleasant surprise. When you're staying at a resort, you'd at least expect advertised amenities to be functional. Overall, this was a terrible experience, and I won't be returning. Thousand Trails Snowflower was disappointing. The pool was freezing, the staff was rude and unhelpful, and the assigned RV spots were frustrating with little to no flexibility. Not a campground I'd recommend to anyone. Many of the workers came across as rude and unhelpful. They weren't kind, welcoming, or accommodating, which really sets the tone for a negative stay.The campground itself has potential, but several issues really stood out. Camping is supposed to be relaxing and fun instead it felt stressful and uncomfortable. The campground is located in a beautiful setting with several lakes in the area. Close to I80 and a stocked lake on site. The downside is that there is little to no maintenance. Sites lack sewer hookups, roads are dirt and gravel and not well maintained, bathrooms dirty, tables at the campsites were old and rickety. For what they charge, they need to spend some money on keeping it up. Looks like Thousand Trails is just a money grab. Too bad. This place could be great. read more

This is our first visit here. Some of our camping friends came up and asked us to join them. This is part of the 1000 trails membership. We have been with 1000 trails for 2 years. We booked a site with Snowflower via Thousand Trails but they are a first come, first served site even if you book a reservation which can be hectic now that camping season is upon us. We arrived and checked in, the front gate lady was a bit short and unfriendly but no big deal. The site map she gave us was a little confusing but we eventually were able to navigate it. The playground is just swings and the pool is closed for what seems indefinitely. Bathrooms were decent. Since about 90% of the people here are RV/trailer campers and they have their own bathrooms and showers in their rig the bathrooms were always empty. Showers are free and have decent lasting hot water which was nice to defrost from the freezing nighttime temps. They warned bears were an issue and to make sure all trash and food was secured. While there we did have 1 sighting of a bear but it was up by the entrance so not roaming through our site but I guess it does happen often. Lots of other reviews complained of dust and bugs...well duh you're outside in the woods. I will say the dust wasn't that bad. People driving by kicked up some dust but as long as they abided by the 5 mph speed limit it settled quickly. We didn't have an issue with mosquitos at all, but large ants...yes! The camp sites are small so it can be a pain if you have a larger camper and you are pretty close to your neighbors. This site was super quiet! They have a no loud sound rule after 10pm but it was dead silent by 8pm and everyone was in their campers already, it was odd as most places we've been have been lively with music and laughter with people around campfires. Overall it was a decent site and appeared well kept up. We would return once we get our camper, no more tent camping as it was just wayyyy too cold at night. read more

UNRELIABLE ELECTRICITY: PET DANGER We stayed here in our travel trailer for a week around July 4th and it was hot that week. The first site we found was tricky to back into but we figured it out and got set up. Then the breaker kept flipping like every 5 minutes even though we were being very moderate with our electricity usage. We'd flip it, it would stay on for a few minutes, we'd change nothing as far as appliances being used, and it would turn off again. Not sustainable, so we drove around and found another site. Our new neighbors at this site informed us that their electricity and ours was out and had been going out every day for hours. So here's what you need to know: 1. Do not leave your pets unattended while you hike or kayak on a hot day while staying here. Your electricity could go out, taking the A/C with it, and your pet(s) could die baking in your hot RV. We travel with 3 pets and felt like we couldn't leave our site for long because of this. 2. These are not glitches. Their infrastructure cannot support all the sites they are booking. For example, three 30 amp sites should be on a circuit with at least 90 amps, right? Well the circuit of three "30 amp" campsites we were on had 70 amps (I learned this from two employees as they explained why our power kept going out). This means that no matter how conservative you are with your usage, the combo of 3 rigs is going to blow that breaker especially on hot days when you need A/C to keep your rig at a safe temp inside. One of the rangers was giving out false info that it was happening because "the people in the big rigs are using both air conditioners." This doesn't make sense, is false info, and leads people to believe that if they are not being ridiculous with their usage, they can help keep the power on. Not true! 3. Bring a generator, any adapters you may need, and plenty of gas. We used our generator most days of our stay. 4. The RANGER NUMBER on the sheet you receive at check in should be called immediately when the power goes out. Maintenance will flip the breaker usually within an hour. 5. Ask to speak with the manager or maintenance and learn about the breaker you are on. I did this and learned which 3 sites shared a breaker and then we worked together to be conservative so everyone could have the power they needed and in hopes of keeping the power on. It worked some days. 6. Be nice to the rangers, maintenance folks, and manager. They are all doing their best to manage a park that has an outdated and underpowered electrical system for today's rigs. In my experience, they did everything they could to help and were really nice people. 7. Their infrastructure will be overhauled in 2024, we were told. 8. This may be the case with all Thousand Trails properties but we found it to be ridiculous (!!!!) that sites are not assigned in advance. You have to drive your whole rig through all the site areas which are sometimes totally packed and crowded with vehicles, ATVs, etc. Really adds stress to the experience. Every other place we've been assigns your site and you go right to it. I can't imagine how this chaotic system is beneficial to anyone. The lake was pretty and our neighbors were so nice as we all worked together to manage the power situation. Probably will not return. read more

Okay, let's start with the bad. When you check in they give you a map to find your area. The map is absolutely no help at all and signage throughout the camp grounds is almost non existent. We drove all over the camp grounds up and down the mountain to find the oak area, which is tent camping. There is a sign about 4 inches wide as you go into the oak section that says 4wheel drive suggested. One of my kids drove their own car which got stuck in the rock and gravel many times. It should say on website that you need to bring a 4wheel drive vehicle. It took 70 min from check in to make it to our site. The area we camp in was far from others which ment a whole bathroom area to ourselves. The bathroom was awesome and super clean with toilet sink and huge shower. To get to any activities from our camp site was a 8-12 min drive. The lake was warm and great for swimming. The pool is nice and clean and up kept well. beautiful location near Truckee. make sure to make bug spray for sure, as the lake attracts lots of insects. the reason for the deduction in stars is because the campground could use a bit of TLC. for example: general maintenance in the bathrooms, some sites electricity doesn't work, power surges, etc. ive camped at many different Thousand Trails all over CA, and various west coast states, and you can tell campgrounds that keep up maintenance versus those who don't. it's not updated to keep up with these larger rigs that take more power. read more

1. Check in was good, but when we bought souvenir hats the lady never gave us a receipt. I think the cash went into her pocket. Not giving a receipt is a warning sign of employee theft. I ought to know, I've had 5 businesses and over 3000 employees in 37 years. Management watch out! 2. I asked about paying for our fishing and the same lady (as above) said there is no charge. Well, there shouldn't be. I caught zero trout in 5 days of fishing. And, when I asked other fishermen, they had the same sad tail. The ad for Snowflower mentions a lake filled with trout! 3. On a good note, the public bathrooms were immaculate! They were always clean; they had no odor, and there was always soap and paper towels available. 4. On another good note, the trailer spots were large and beautifully located. If there were only trout available, we'd go back. read more

Second time we have been here in the past month (Thousand Trails membership). The first time we had a power outage that lasted several hours, along with the water shut off. Took it in stride. This time, we are on day 3 with no power. July 7,2021. It is ridiculous - they have lied a few times about when the power will come back on... that is if you are lucky enough to get through on the phones. Some BS about having to get a certain part in Modesto. Zero updates posted... zero staff going around updating the guests... phones are not answered. It is a wasted week. The people in the neighboring sites are having their batteries go to waste. This place, and Thousand Trails in general... is a dump. Update.. after two and a half days (it is late July 7, we got here July 5) they finally got the power on. So after about an hour of finally having AC, this guy suddenly comes banging on my door in a Thousand Trails shirt to say they are asking everyone to NOT run their AC, so maybe they can keep the power on. That is right - after three days of not picking up the phone or acknowledging that they have people in their resort baking and frying their batteries, suddenly mister Friendly shows up as if they have done me some giant favor by finally turning on the power, but please no AC. Now for him... I guarantee you he is going back to his air conditioned staff quarters - but the guests can do without. The very nerve - they only communicate with the guests if it's to ASK THE GUEST TO HELP THEM, not ever to see if they can help the guest. This place is a beauty, just a real beauty. eff Thousand Trails. Guess you get what you pay for. Thursday. Day 4. the campground reeks of exhaust from necessary generators. But at least when we finally leave, we won't be able to dump because we are in a third world wreck of a campground and the dump station has been surrounded by crime scene yellow tape since Tuesday. read more

We were so thrilled to find this clean, family-friendly resort with its own (warm!) little lake in the high sierras. To top it off, everyone here appears to be very friendly and generous (loaning our group their inflatables). But our group's collective joy was short lived after we were beseeched with mosquitos. We spent the weekend trying to figure out why this camp is more bug-ridden than others and concluded that it is likely due to limited air currents through this secluded part of the forest. To be fair, other camp groups appear to have a perfectly good time despite being eaten alive. This is the most amazing campground we have ever been to. I've never seen a more beautiful and vast amount of sites, some on the lake and some in the mountains. This spot we found #23 was near a bathroom and it was immaculate, the shower had better pressure than our shower at home. Can't wait to go back, great staff and location. Why camp anywhere else? I couldn't believe that the spaces even way up on the mountain had hook ups! Even with the smoke, the stars at night were amazing. The lake is beautiful, next time we will be on it in our kayaks. I cannot stress enough, this is the best campground in California that I have seen. read more

What a fun place this is!! Camp host Vanessa and her son were phenomenal. They were extremely helpful throughout our stay not only in the store but they also hosted excellent children's activities in the lodge and the funnest camp fire sing alongs. We enjoyed the warm little lake, the pool was always shinning and so clean. Pool toilets always clean as well. Friends stayed in a cabin and they loved it also. We saw the cutest bear Cubs. The only negative thing I have to say is they definitely need to fix the plumbing and have more signage. Showers were closed and lodge bathrooms were closed so it's a far walk to take the little to potty from the lodge. read more

This was by far our best 1000 trails experience yet. The camp host was amazing from the start. So fun and witty with her Australian accent. Yes some spaces are on top of each other especially right at the lake but our spot in the Redwoods section was fantastic. Very remote compared to a lot we've stayed in before. The lake was not crowded. Lots of hiking around the vast wilderness surrounding this campground. The baby bears were a fun addition too. So cute. Would definitely recommend this campground. Beautiful campground in the Sierras on a small private lake. We enjoyed our five nights at Snowflower. Nice little scenic hike around the lake. Rented a kayak for an hour to enjoy the calm water of the lake and take in some of the wildlife. Witnessed an eagle swooping down to catch a fish. This is rv camping in the woods so expect dust. There is parking lot camping in the cliff area for those who don't. I prefer being in the trees. There are different sections to choose from some providing lake views others with views of distance mountains and canyons. The sites up on the ridge are more isolated and the road is steep and rough. If you like more privacy and expansive views this is for you. I'd take your tow vehicle first to see if you are comfortable taking your rig up there first. We stayed in Lower fawn that had some sites with lake views. Staff was very friendly and checking took place in the small store. read more

The positive comments to make are all due to mother nature, not Thousand Trails. The scenery, lakes, peace of the setting and the wildlife ( ants, misquitos, wasps, butterflys, birds, bears) are very relaxing and give those of us who are handicapped an idea of what being in the outdoors could be like. The negative comments are all attributable to Thousand Trails management. The bathrooms and showers are dirty. The soap dispenser empty. The odor suggests significant time lapse between cleanings with bleach or other disinfectant. The bathroom entry door is hard to shove closed if you are handicapped, so animals could get in. The walkway to the bathroom building from the Cluffs camping ( parking) section is deeply rutted and cumbersome to navigate with a walker or chair. Parking lot style campground of The Cliffs section is cramped, but you can put out awnings and you are not sitting upon each other. There is a small patch of woods behind one section and everyobe has a picnic table. parking is pretty level, but there are still dips and humps. The hookups are poor. It is 30 amp and water only. The 30 amp is not reliable, and many units are out of order. It appears as though these are not repaired but are instead designated as tent sites. Our neighnor tried calling for help with the electricity to no avail. There are no individual camp site area bear proof garbage cans. Instead you have to drive over to the large dumpster section and unless you are strong you wont be able to luft up the heavy lud once you unhook the chain holding the lid down. Since there are no FULL hookups, and only ONE working dump station outside the gate, dont expext a quick checkout process. Therevis honeybucket service twice a week for $40. zif you do not call for the service prior to 10 or 11, you wont get it. Also, some folks have said they did call but the person was a no show. The pool had reopened just July 14, and looked clean. There is another campground site near the lake but we did not go there due to dust and very close crowded sites. Roads in the grounds are in some areas poorly maintained. They are also poorly marked snd its easy to get lost or stuck in gravel. Its a nice park if you don't need the ammenities, otherwise it can be a miserablw experience. read more

I made a reservation for 5/24/23 - 6/7/23 to spend the Memorial Day holiday with family. The park opening was listed on the Thousand trails web site as 5/20/23 (and still is). I made this reservation on in March. The opening of the park was delayed due to snow (understandable) I have been a member of Thousand trails for 11 years. I was not notified of the change until I contacted thousand trails and I was told that the park cancelled my reservation, and they could not help me. So, I called the park, and they informed me that Thousand trails were supposed to send an email notification to all of the members with reservations and that didn't happen so there were many irate calls coming in over this. now we are 5 days from leaving and we have no place to go. being a holiday weekend, everything is booked. long story short vacation ruined and no call back from management. read more

I like calling Snowflower Resort a hidden treasure. We came across it this summer when we became TT members and it quickly became one of our go to spots. Tucked in the hills not too far from the freeway you enter this beautiful Tahoe like resort without climbing over the hill. You are surrounded by tall trees, mountains, a small lake, and wildlife. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They really love what they do. What sets Snowflower apart from other TT parks was all the fun activities (socially distanced of course) they have for the kids. Candy Bar Bingo, movie under the stars, camp fire s'more nights, crafts, scavenger hunts just to name a few. Tina the activities directed just loves her job and the kids just loved to see what she has planned next. I agree what others have said that the lower spots are hard to get. If you are not there at check in then you might have to go up the hill to Tahoe or Sierra. They are further away from the pool or lake and not fun coming down the hill but the view up there at Vista Point is incredible. We can't wait to go back! read more

First time staying here in our travel trailer and we had a great time! The staff was great! We like the rustic feel, yet having all of the amenities. We stayed here in mid Sept so Sun-Thur was a ghost town. Had the loop almost to ourselves. We are not members and paid about $40 a night, which is not bad for water/electric hook ups in California. It's a huge resort with many RV parking options from black top, to lake lake view and even hill top views! I would suggest scouting the entire place if possible to see all of your options because driving around with or in your rig could be tough. Also most of the roads are gravel so it can get dusty. We stayed in site 42. If you hike, you're surrounded by lots of great trails! The only thing I would change is to allow for reserving spots versus first come first serve. We got lucky because it was empty but had it been full, it would have taken a while to find a spot. And some of the hill top site roads and turns would have been tough with a longer rig. Over all it was a great stay and we will definitely come back here again and again! read more

This is one of my top favorite places. This year we camped twice and loved all the family activities. During these times it's no e when a campsite seems to go thw extra mile. Tina the activities coordinates is amazing to King movie nights, family bingo and scavenger hunts all while keeping everyone safe. This is truly a wonderful peaceful place. Thousand Trails Snowflower - Vista point @Snowflower - Campgrounds Near Me - Emigrant Gap, California

I have been camping at Snowflower, first as a kid and now with my own kids, for over 20 years. The location is gorgeous and has lots of fun activities for the whole family (fishing, swimming, kayaking, etc). There's been a lot of turnover with management over the past decade, and a lot of changes at the facilities, but I want to recommend the current management. I had an unpleasant incident with a very sour park ranger during my most recent stay, and the front desk supervisor (Kara) and the park manager both followed up with me about the incident and were very apologetic and accomodating. I can see that the management is anxious to provide a welcoming atmosphere for campers, and they are working hard to bring back fun activities and recreation options. read more

Snowflower is beautiful we are Thousand Trails members. We enjoy the forest feel of glamping and this place is just the spot. There is a beautiful vista point within the campground that is absolutely beautiful during the day and at night you can see the galaxy of stars just amazing. read more

Edit: I'm updating my review because we found the management at snowflower deplorable. 1000 trails is first come first serve but not at this property. They tried to insist my 28 foot rv belonged in one of their designated "small" spaces, none of which are near the lake. Those lake spaces are only for what they consider "large" rvs. We watched in shock as the park manager forced a family in a tent trailer to move and then he sat in that sight for 2 hours until a very large fifth wheel came in, escorted by another employee, to take that spot. 1000 trails member ship states that reservation that are site specific are not allowed but not here. I guess if you have the money or connections you can reserve a lake side spot. The fifth wheel was gone the next morning having stayed for only 12 hours. They also forced and elderly couple in a new camper van (it was literally their first time out) to leave a lake side spot, again stating it was for large vs only, and that spot stayed empty 3 days until we left. 1000 trails does not care about this. They have no customer service line or email address to address complaints. My advise is to avoid this park. Meh. Lake is lovely. Swimming and kayaks and paddle boards were all evident and fun in the lake. But this place is very rundown. The bathrooms are gross and I never saw them cleaned in my 5 day stay. So many sites marked "tent" because electric hook ups are broken. We arrived at noon on a Sunday and looked for a site for over an hour. Thousand trails needs to get its shit together on this property. read more
