Denied legally 22 year old and 21 Year old at the bar. After getting into the bar and insisting to call the cops saying that we were of age plus my military ID for serving our country would legally do allow me to be there; I was DENIED again and again and the bouncer came up to me to apologize, which I did not want to cause a scene, however, they did not care for my LEGAL ID to be there nor my partners legal right to be there. It was very frustrating and so we left giving them no business so I have no reason but to write this review because of how poorly I was treated. And discredited against. read more

Came here for drinks and it's a cool vibe. The service is quick and friendly. It definitely is your typical dive bar with a billiard table and it's full of locals. They have some classic beers on tap and it's a cash only bar. A pitcher of beer costs $13 and on Thursdays they do $2 mystery pitchers. read more

THEY DO NOT ACCEPT OUT OF STATE ID!! My girlfriend & I were celebrating her 21st and decided to stop here. Her ID expired that day so she brought other forms of ID to be sure she'd get in. She explained to the bouncer, he understood and took her other forms of ID with no issue. Didn't go so well for me. I'm 22 and have a New Hampshire ID. The bouncer looked at my ID, said "that's not gonna work." and threw my real ID on the ground. I was taken aback but after a moment, I picked it up off the ground and said "No problem at all, I have multiple other forms of ID on me." And he was not even willing to look at them. I came prepared with other forms of ID because I figured I might get questioned for being out of state and I didn't want any issues, especially on my girlfriend's 21st birthday. Unfortunately that didn't matter. The bouncer knew my other forms of ID were real but he just couldn't handle being wrong. We ended up going to P&G's, where police officers checked our ID's, and we both got in with no issue. The crowd was much more lively there too! read more

Snugs is an excellent dive bar located in New Paltz. I came here with some friends for a night out and ended up having an excellent first time here. The crowd here is mostly college kids/people in their 20's-30's with the occasional "hippies" making their way through the crowd. I went on a pseudo reggae live night, which sounded great. I was situated towards the back of the bar next to the pool table and was there for quite some time. I didn't feel an ounce of rudeness from everyone and the bartenders there seemed like very cool people. Overall I definitely recommend coming here for a more welcoming environment than most bars in the Hudson Valley. read more

This place is over crowded at night, and I don't know why. The staff is rude, the bathrooms are gross, and the drinks aren't good. It's almost impossible to get comfortable here unless your outside which is my favorite thing about this place. My boyfriend always drags me here when we're in town and it's honestly not my vibe. If he goes to the bathroom or goes to order another drink gross men come out of nowhere and hit on you. People have no respect here. Not the customers, and not the employees. Trash, not in a good way. Dirty taps, constantly. Higher end beer selections sits around, gets skunked. Rogue should not be so mistreated. This is my kind of bar. Good drinks and people all around. This isn't your average run of the mill bar but that's why I love this place. It's a very unique bar that will bring you coming back for more. You could go here at any point of the day and meet a new friend and that happens all the time. Hey, I think this bar is fun! I also think it's unbelievably hilarious that most of the locals consider this bar to be "rowdy". My first experience here was to see a TOOL cover band (which was great) play. They played on the "stage" in front near the windows, and if you ever don't want to pay to see a band, you can hear 'em loud and clear just outside the window haha. That was near Valentine's Day, and they had some college students set up a stand selling homemade cards and such. It was really cute, I love it when local businesses get involved with the local college students (or vice versa). There's a pool table, and near the corner they always have a few free cd's of local bands to check out. Fun atmosphere. This is a dive bar. There is a pool table in the back and an OK selection of beers up-front. I had a Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin which tasted fine, despite what others have said about their taplines. There was some live music up-front and the kids looked hipster as all hell. One my friends kicked the drummer out and started playing for the band instead. The band was happy. College crowd mostly so if you're not in the mood for that, don't come here. If you don't mind, it, there are worse places to hoist a pint. read more

Great little dive bar in a very happening college town. Went here to see a band and loved it! Try the Snug Special if you are ordering beer. They can't tell you what it is but it's usually something high end they are selling dirt cheap. They also have huge pitchers and the prices are extremely cheap! Great Dive Bar. Great Prices, Cool Bartenders, Diverse Crowd. Stopped by this joint a few times during my last trip to New Paltz, had a great time talking to locals, playing darts, and shooting pool. Seems like a real "local" bar, and even if you are are tourist, you are treated well...which sometimes doesn't happen when you go to a "locals" bar in a tourist/college town. Came to this divey bar last night and sat in on a jam band that was highly enjoyable... the crowd was a mix between hipsters and hippies, mostly because of the band, and they were young- as in their early 20s. The music is also quieter and there's pool, darts, and an outside area so this is less of a party atmosphere, more so kick back vibe. Snugs is THE dive bar in New Paltz. It's almost always a swell time and the prices can't be beat. The only criticism I have is very specific... A) one or more of the bartenders doesn't know how to make a proper gin gimlet. B) they say they can't make a Tom Collins. Get with it guys! We're talking about two classic drinks here!! They had Yuengling on tap!!!!!! That automatically gives it 5 stars in my book. This was New Paltz's version of a dive bar....not quite the Double Down Saloon here in Vegas but I had fun. The bartenders were cool and unbelievably grateful for a 20% tip (its a town full of college kids...what do you expect?). Let's just say I was well taken care of that night. The only reason its getting 4 stars was because of some little punk (and I mean little...he was like 5'3) being a butthead and telling me I had to move so they could play pool. Lucky for him i'm a lover and not a fighter so my friends and I ignored him due to his rudeness...and the guys in our group were well over 6 feet tall and strong. I love this place! As safe and friendly as it gets! Cheap drinks, live music, darts, pool, smoking patio, this place has everything. Great for a day drink, great for night life, great for watching the game and they have the best jukebox in town! Seems to me a lot of the reviews are from people who have only been once or only go at certain times so, as a regular, let me fill in some detail. On weekend nights (Thursday, Friday and Saturday after 9 pm) it can get pretty crowded. The type of crowd depends on the band, sometimes it is more college students, sometimes its hippies, sometimes it's bikers, sometimes it's punks/metal heads, some times its classier adults. Check the band ahead of time and you'll have a good idea of what you are in for. During the day (before 9 pm) and weekday nights (including Sunday) it is generally a bit different. You can enjoy smaller crowds, sometimes quieter or more eclectic music and fewer college students (keep in mind this is a college town and whether they fit your stereotype of 'college student' or not they are amongst you anywhere you go). As for beers, there are some taps you can always count on being there, some that change depending on season (oktober fest, winter lager, etc.) and there are generally some local beers in the mix. I have never had a skunked beer there. They have all the basics when it comes to cocktails including flavored vodka, top to bottom shelf of whatever liquor you desire and a really good selection of whiskey, bourbon and scotch but don't expect a fancy drink menu. read more

$3.50 bud drafts is nice but not much else. Yes, I get it, it's a dive bar but the stench is nearly unbearable. Arrived Saturday 7:30 for one beer, and couldn't wait to leave. Bartender was a little aloof had really no interest in serving anyone it seemed. Music was a disaster, same song played 3 times in a row, no one noticed? One of the greatest bars at which I have ever had the privilege to frequent. Every one is welcome and any one can just groove to one's drinks when it is not crowded or groove to the live music which is there almost every night when it is crowded, All drinks are priced on the low end, even those which would be considered "top shelf" elsewhere.
