Three stars should be 4 but it's explained below. This is the EXACT kind of place that wifey and I were looking for when we moved to Amherst. A local. A place that isn't divvy and gross or divvy and filled with underaged college kids. Just a nice dive. We have been there twice for quick (well, therein lies the problem...) dinners on week nights. During both visits, at around dinnertime (6-7ish?), the place wasn't busy and looked to be stocked with locals having after-work drinks and food. Yes, they do have the aforementioned shuffleboard table and I think we would have played if it wasn't occupied (and if we had a freaking clue how to play it!). Parking is easy. The place is easy to miss if you don't know where it is - on Kensington in a little strip plaza between Harlem and Main St. The place consists of essentially two rooms - a bar room and a dining room. The dining room has a wall lined with wooden booths, which are perfectly comfy. There are 1-2 tv's in the place and the first time we were there one was tuned to a Red Sox game (bonus!). We had burgers, wings, and beer, and all were made as requested and good. Nothing spectacular, but exactly what you would expect out of a place like this. Here is the problem, and though I hate having a problem with a place, this is why we haven't been back in a couple of months: the wait for our meal, after ordering and before it is served, was extreme both times we were there. For burgers and wings, in a mostly empty restaurant during normal dinner hours, we waited well over a half hour. The food did come out perfectly hot, so I don't understand what the deal is. I'd love to come back and have some more of their great wings and atmosphere, and I'm sure I WILL go back, but I do not enjoy the wait. I'm usually very patient and like to relax and chat before the food comes out, but this was just more than the norm. Oh, and one other nice thing: the place wasn't packed with families with young children! I'm sure it's family friendly and that kids are welcome, they just don't seem to be the focus of the place, which is nice. read more

Went in there one night with friends from Loghrans. Owner bought me a beer, gave me some spectacular Beef Jerky, and the we talked about the Allman Brothers. I asked her if she needed a husband but didn't she already have one! All the things that make corner bars great is wrapped in this package. This is a great local bar to go to if you are in the area. They have a menu and restaurant side, as well as a full bar on the other side. The bar has electronic dart boards, as well as a shuffleboard table. The bar has a few beers on tap, as well as the typical staples in bottles. They also serve liquor. It is slightly dark, but a fun place to go! The parking lot fills up quickly, so street parking is usually your only bet. read more

Came here a few times and the food was always good. I've had the wings, chicken sandwich and a Cheeseburger the few times I have been here. The drinks are poured well here and the bartenders are very nice. They have darts that you can play that are in a bad area unfortunately (Right near the entrance door where there's a lot of foot traffic. There's televisions to watch sports with the local crowds that seem to be the regular frequent crowd in here. The regulars are nice and will chit chat with you while you're watching a game as well. The place isn't that big but it's a nice place to go to relax and have a few drinks and have some decent food at great prices. read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I have been coming here for quite a while now and nothing about this place ever disappoints. I love the atmosphere. It's like a mix between a sports bar, a dive bar and a restaurant. The bartenders are great and the staff is always amazing. I love the fact that you can get drinks and food and have a nice night out without spending hundreds of dollars. I mean, you could spend hundreds of dollars if you wanted too....But you know what I mean. My favourite things about this place, other than the bartenders and drinks, are the chicken wings and the fish fry's. If you haven't had Cajun wings here or their fish fry, you should get on that. This place has a classic dive bar feel, but does food and drinks well. The bartender always pours us doubles that are on the heavy side. Combined with the very fair prices, a couple hours here doesn't break the bank. You won't find fancy cocktails on the menu, but they truly know how to make the classics properly. Draft and bottle beer selection could be a bit better given all the local breweries around, which is what kept me from giving them a 5. The food is classic bar food and hits the spot every time. The wings are crispy, the ratio of breading to chicken on their chicken fingers actually gives you chicken, and the fries are always hot. read more

I waited 20 minutes for wings. Way more than worth it. Such amazing wings. If you want good hot wings or Cajun wings and a juke box or some darts. Come here for sure. Synder Bar and Grill, formerly known as the First Place, is the best kept secret in the greater Buffalo area. This is, hands down, my favorite bar ever. There is nowhere else I'd rather celebrate, mourn, or lackadaisically put away whiskey. It is the perfect corner bar. When I still lived in Amherst (and had far less responsibilities), my friends and I would often come here almost every single day. We loved this bar so much not just because of proximity to our homes but also because the bartenders and owners are incredibly kind people who easily became friends rather just servers. Furthermore, Snyder Bar and Grill also offers the best of the best in terms of bar games: Big Buck Hunter, darts, erotic photo hunt, and most importantly, shuffleboard! Although you won't find a specialty martini list here, the bartenders have a few tricks up their sleeves as well. For instance, be sure to ask Chris for a flaming apple pie shot. It will burn, but only in the best way possible. And, while you're throwing back a few, try a burger or a couple orders of wings as well. I recently splurged on their barbeque wings and an order of fries. So deliciously unhealthy. So Buffalo. So comforting. Yes, I am well aware that I am biased because I've been coming here for over ten years, but I just can't imagine a better neighborhood bar. Great little neighborhood pub. In my opinion, it's my favorite fish fry in the area. The use Cod fish instead of haddock, which I prefer. The service is friendly, and the place is always clean. Been here twice. Once for drinks and ordered take out the second time. It is a good neighborhood bar. When I was waiting for my food at 9pm on a Friday night, the bar was pretty packed and lots of people dinning. One thing I found weird was that the music was unnecessary loud. The music was louder than what they would play at a club. Anyways, we ordered fish fry and chicken wings. The fish fry is ok, and the chicken wings is amazing. When in Buffalo get Buffalo wings. Staying at local hotel checked Yelp for closest restaurant serving wings. One mile away is Snyder. Good location, safe, clean, good neighborhood, very good greeting at front door and inside. Service efficient polite and nice. Food ready when told would be ready as a to go order. Wings-mild- good size meaty flavor very good Wings-medium- same Burger-good. Wrap-good checked good sauce neat tasted good- could have been grilled as wrap another minute for crispy Fries-too soft but good. Missed napkins and ketchup and forks. read more

I've gone here multiple times and have always enjoyed myself. It's a nice little hidden gem, but it's not a scary hole in the wall. Cheektowaga is not know for very many "cheers style" bars. By that, I mean bars where you can just go in and grab a few and chat if up. But this place is definitely one of those places. I've also had the food here, and that's always been great too. When the waitress takes a credit card from someone and doesn't let the table settle who is paying I think that's pretty dam poor. You need to stay out of it and not get involved. and don't charge me for something because I asked for it on the side it was included on the meal, really are you not that smart? Called and spoke to owner but just got I will speak to my waitresses! Wouldn't go back if they paid for my meal !!! read more

I didn't expect to make this post, but I feel like something needs to be said. 12/20 315 P. The bartender asked me what I wanted before I had a chance to take my coat off. This was only my second time here and wasn't sure what they had to offer. I got a Guinness because I love it and there were only 3 other draft choices. He poured it like it was a Pepsi and I didn't take my first sip for 5 minutes so it could settle. Only 3 patrons in the bar and no attempt to communicate by the bartender. Not saying he wasn't nice, but not what I'm use to coming from the service industry. Also, the bartender seemed very dismissive to one of the patrons that was apparently associated with a local brewery and suggested possibly serving their craft beer. They others left the bar while I was typing this post and not even a 'see you later, 'Thanks from the bartender. I'm leaving now too and not sure if I will be returning. read more

This place is a super chill small town bar where it doesn't get too busy. one of my favorite places to go and kick back for a few hours.

Usually grab a beer or two and and some wings when I'm in town. Excellent wings here, good size nice and meaty, great sauces. Beers are entirely reasonable in price, very casual environment, pretty laid back place, kind of local neighborhood watering hole type place. Service is always excellent and quite friendly, plenty of room on both sides of the bar, TVs all around to watch sports, etc. Great place to hang out. read more

For being a, what some might call, dive bar the place was nice. It was the middle of the day when went. The place was dead which kind of made me second guess this place. When we finally decided to sit down the waitress was very nice and helpful. She was never rude and very polite. With that said, I was slightly disappointed in the fact that she didn't come buy the table that often and any time that we needed anything we had to look around for her and even go looking in the kitchen door. I thought this was unacceptable due to the fact that we were the only ones there eating. As for the food, it was very good. They really know how to make wings. They were delicious and worth the wait. I think we might have waited twenty or more minutes. For the food we ordered and us being the only ones there I think that it could have come out to the table a little sooner. So over-all a three star rating but the wings here are great. I hope this helps. read more
