Being a past Frank's customer & friend of the owner for the past 30 years, I was hesitant to dine there because I loved it so much. But it was time to take the plunge! I looked at my wife and said, "Let's do it, we'll try the fish fry!" So off we went. The special on the menu was grouper. My wife had her heart set on that. Unfortunately our very sweet waitress said (at 7:30 pm) that they were out of the grouper and breaded fish fry (my choice, lol). So our start was a little shaky! I forgot to mention that I loved the new opportunity to make a reservation (we called at 5:30 pm & got a 7:30 reservation for 4). Anyway, no worries, my wife ordered the cajun broiled fish fry & I the beer battered fish fry. Outstanding! The batter was perfect, not too much and the fish was flakey and delicious! The sides, cole slaw, mac salad and fries were excellent, not too much mayo, slaw was delicious as well. I was never much of a beer battered guy, always preferred the breaded fish--I can't wait to get the beer battered again. It was that good! My wife loved her dinner as well and so did our guests. My suggestion, maybe order a little more grouper, but honestly, I can't wait to go back and repeat exactly what I had! Great job by our waitress as well. Just reopened under new owners with this being their first full week and they are already off to a great start! It was packed with it getting busier as the night went on so try to make a reservation if you can! The stuffed hot peppers, AMAZING! and they were huge and you get 3 of them served with focaccia which is a nice change from most places! The burgers were smash burgers with tons of flavor and a nice portion of fries to go along with it. We came for Friday fish fry w a big party and had a great table in the large side room that has lots of windows. Our server Jess was super sweet and attentive. Went to Franks on Friday 01/16. New owners and some familiar faces too. We started with stuffed hot peppers, they were cheese stuffed and topped with their homemade red sauce and they were accompanied by their homemade focaccia bread, all was delicious. But the highlight for me was their beer battered fish fry, which was cod. The batter was crisp and golden brown, the fish itself was flaky and moist. The macaroni salad was my favorite of the sides, but the fries and coleslaw were very good as well. We have always loved Franks, it's our go to neighborhood place. We wish the previous owner much happiness in his retirement and we look forward to the good things that we know are coming under the new ownership. Cheers to the future! read more

I've wanted to come here for a while and finally made the drive. Well worth it! Parking lot was nicely paved and I enjoyed walking past the potted flowers and peppers growing outside. We were quickly greeted indoor, which was nice and had an additional dining area indoors and away from the bar, but we chose to sit outside which was also nice. My friend ordered the pork chop and he didn't love it ... felt it was too tough. I never trust anything he says because he doesn't eat cheese... except pizza, chicken wings, or anything with spice or peppers or onions. Can't trust that judgement, amiright?! Lol I however LOVED my meal! I got the beer battered fish fry (served fridays and Saturdays) with macaroni salad and mashed potatoes with gravy. Also comes with coleslaw which I don't like so I asked not to include. There was rye bread too which I didn't eat. Anyway, the fish was cooked to perfection with a crisp and delicious batter. Tarter sauces was good. Macaroni salad wasn't the best ever but was still good. Loved the mashed potatoes and gravy. Service was fast and friendly. Franks is an old-time family restaurant known for their fish fries and roast beef. They also have daily changing specials (which they take the time to change on their letter board out front every day). It is not a huge restaurant but there is a bar area, a small dining area and then additional space in the back. In the summer they also have a small patio. I would say that if you are an old person searching for a good fish fry, it's a decent place to go. My purpose for going was because we just moved to .5 miles down the road and we thought we could go here to have a good time, get drunk and walk home. It is not that kind of place. We felt like we were at a Moose lodge. I will gladly pay for an Uber to go somewhere where the younger crowd might be. As far as the food that we had, it was alright. I got a cup of their shrimp gumbo and it had no actual shrimp in it. It was like they cut a small salad shrimp into 3 pieces and put it into the soup. I was pretty sad about it. My husband got the chicken sandwich which was pretty good but needed more dill sauce. I don't want to knock it because the regulars that go here absolutely love it. And if I ate fish fries, I'm sure I would get one from here. But overall, the place is not for me and I'm unlikely to come back. read more

I've tried several over the years & I always come up meh - bc of the dry, overly-bready, overly-salty Kimmelwick bun, mass-produced, not tender, not rare, overly-salty roast beef. THEIRS IS WORLDS DIFFERENT. Squishy soft bun, tender & juicy *actually made here* roast beef, jus & horseradish on the side. A delicious sammich beyond other worldly different from every other meh one I've had. You choose for your own self, but I will not order Beef on Weck anywhere else but here. Also great: Clams Casino Sausage Bread Prime Rib dinner special Grouper Fish Fry dinner special Wings - came w/the Beef on Weck combo, which our server said is the dish they are best known for Dessert! This place used to be great but lately, it has really gone downhill! We have been there three times as of late, and each time was a major disappointment. We each ordered the fish fry and 45 minutes later the food arrived. The coleslaw was runny and the macaroni salad tasteless. The fries were loaded on the runny coleslaw and limp. Fish was just OK. Fish fry was just okay; batter had a weird "off" taste and my breaded fish fry was over cooked and dry. Waitress said that the salads were homemade but the potatoes in the potato salad had that gritty processed texture like you'd buy from the grocery store. Macaroni salad and Coleslaw were bland. Our server was very very friendly and food came out quickly. I didn't have the heart to tell her we didn't like the food. It was $60 for two fish fry's and three beers, which is ok but it was cod not haddock. I'll come back again but not for fish. EXCELLENT FISH FRY ALERT!! :-D :-D :-D I have not done much in-restaurant dining since the pandemic started. I ended up at Frank's last Friday night for a planned group dinner for six with my old colleagues. Frank's was selected because my work bud did some research, and found they had a heated patio area, and our group preferred outdoor seating. The patio was nice! It was pouring rain when we were there, and it stayed bone-dry and toasty with the heaters and fireplace. Tables were spaced out fairly well to keep patrons distanced. A very comfortable, safe fresh-air space. Almost everyone in our group ordered the fish fry, which is available Fridays only. For $14.99 you get fish, bread, and three sides. I went with macaroni salad, coleslaw, and fries. Regular or German potato salad, macaroni and cheese, or mashed potatoes were also options. When my entrée arrived, whoa baby, what a marlin! A BIG piece of fish, and generous sides. I generally don't like seafood, with the exception of a good fish fry, because, IMHO, a good fish fry essentially tastes like you're eating a meaty french fry, haha. And this fish fry was GREAT. A hot, crispy batter that had a little bit of fried-dough'esque sweetness to it, with a flaky white, fresh skin-less fish inside. (I hate when there is skin left on the fish). The sides were all tasty, as well. The waitress offered up a side of gravy, to which I obliged, which was also yummy for dipping fires and bread. The service was kind and accurate, the food was fantastic, the venue was great! One tip, for weekend nights, a reservation is highly recommended. There was a line out the door, so try to plan ahead to avoid a wait. I am definitely bringing my husband back sometime later in the fall so he can experience this sublime fish fry, too. I really wanted to love this place, and was so disappointed that I didn't. Rating Frank's 2 stars is super low, but I can't justify rating it a 3 and here's why. My boyfriend and I came here early Friday. We were seated right away, and the hostess sanitized our table in front of us before we were seated which I really appreciated. We ordered 2 fish fry and a beer. The fish fry came out super fast. The plate looked amazing. Before digging in, my mouth was watering just by how amazing the fish looked. But, looks can be deceiving. The coleslaw and mac salad had absolutely no flavor at all. The only thing I liked about the dish were the French fries and tartar sauce. The fish was extremely soggy and tasted funny. Under further investigation, I realized it was the batter. It should have stayed in the fryer longer because all I could taste was the raw batter. This was the same case for my boyfriends fish. I didn't have the heart to tell the waitress, but you could tell we didn't care for the fish due to the lack of food we ate. First time he in a very long time. We sat in the new addition with windows on 3 sides, and a door leading to an outdoor patio seating area. Service was friendly and prompt. Hubby had the prime rib special ($23.99) that came with fresh green beans, choice of potato, a roll, au jus, and a salad. The prime rib was ordered medium rare, but arrived rare, especially in the middle. I had a beer battered fish fry, with 2 slices of rye bread, macaroni salad, Cole slaw, and choice of potato. ($13.79) Macaroni salad is generally not my favorite, but I ate all of this as it was just right. The cole slaw was dry and needed more dressing. French fries were plentiful and crispy. We stopped off here to feed a starving teenager who had just played a hard game of hockey nearby (but didn't want a greasy, heavy meal). The dining area was quite cozy in terms of the decor and seating. Specials were clear and well-advertised. One very notable thing is that there was an incredibly strong scent of what I assume was a cleaner of some kind. It reminded me of something used in an older house or a high school cafeteria and it just never dissipated. I'm glad to think that things were very clean, but man - I can't get that smell out of my nose. The menu is typical standard fare for a bar and grill: salads, sandwiches, fish fries and such. I thought the prices were average - not expensive but also not cheaper than similar items anywhere else in the area. I ordered a dill ranch chicken sandwich on a ciabatta roll. Portion size, again, I would say was average - nothing overly notable about mine. The other meals that came to the table looked to be a little bit bigger. I'd say my sandwich was just okay - a processed fried chicken patty with some sparse toppings, but the ciabatta roll with everything together had a fair flavor. Wouldn't order it again for myself, but the house made chips were delicious. The service was the shining star here, honestly. Friendly, helpful wait staff that were so gracious to our hangry group of 3. It may be helpful to note that they use paper straws here. I only mention this because I know many people feel strongly about them one way or another! read more

It had been a number of years since I last stopped in at Frank's. I remember a killer fried bologna sandwich and a regular tavern sort of feel. Wow- they really have stepped up the place. What had been a patio is now an enclosed room doubling the space and really classing up the place. A new patio is there but, as it was breezy, me and dad sat in the bar room. There's always more action near the bar. lol. The menu, while still having all the regular bar standards, had some more interesting and ambitious options. I chose the Cajun cod salad. The piece of cod was huge and perfectly cooked. I asked for some of the garlic roasted cauliflower from another salad and received it no problem. Pops had the pork shank. Not something you see often. It was enormous over mashed potatoes and the gravy was studded with carrots, onions and celery. We watched them flying out of the kitchen. Our waitress (Haley maybe) , was pleasant and attentive. They were also doing a heck of a takeout business and the bar had a steady turnover of regulars. I certainly won't wait so long to return to Frank's! read more

Everything started out Great. Stopped at the Bar for a drink while waiting for our table of 6. After being seated we were greeted by our young and enthusiastic waitress. We all ordered soup along with our Dinners. We ordered French Onion in crocks and some in cups. When the soups arrived they were just warm with bright white cheese tops. We all kind if groaned but things do happen. After 10 minutes the same soups arrived and were just warm again??? We then asked for a Manager who came out with two others from the wait staff and said, take these away and left???? Nothing, no apology, no were really busy, NOTHING!!!. We then told our waitress to make sure there was a hold on out Entree's as it is going to be a few minutes to get new Soups. Now the same soups arrive still with the white cheese but as hot as Molten Lava, 10 Minutes in a Microwave will do that!!!! Not a minute later the Dinners arrive and we ask the server to take them back. One of the older staff helping bring out the order replied "We were told by our Manager to take them out now and you have to take them! Round 2. The Meals were barely warm, two of the meals were Short Ribs and there is nothing worse than Ribs that are Greasy to begin with to be served just luke warm!!! Especially at $39.95. Our Waitress apologized profusely and we did not blame her. She looked like a Deer in Headlights by now!! The Roast Beef on Weck was straight from the Refrigerator. It had to go back. I had a Meatloaf on White Bread with Mashed & Gravy. I ordered a To-Go container.The Roast Beef was taken away, Microwaved and brought back!!! Just Gross!!!! One of the guests plain out refused his dinner and told them to cancel his!! The Meatloaf was pretty good the following day for Lunch I gave them 1 Star as the Bar Service was Good and the Beer at the Bar was Cold!!! I will avoid Frank's untill the Sign in front say's NEW COOK, or NEW MANAGEMENT!!!!! In all reality without a New Owner nothing will probably change! Time to Clean House! read more

Franks doesn't really specialize in Franks (I am so tired of all this false advertising), but what they do is bar food, and they do it very well. What to get: Beef On Weck, Burger, Wings. What else: Frank's my dear, I don't give a damn. The 2 most recent times I came here was for the Beef On Weck. I tried it a few months back for the first time and was taken aback. It wasn't dirt cheap, but it was absolutely delicious, generous, and hefty, as were the gravy-covered homemade mashed potatoes... yummm. They made a real meal of it, in a good way. In fact the only better BOW I can think of is Charlie The Butcher's, which is not nearly as generous portion-wise. Wiechec's is close, too. But this BoW is infinitely better than Schwabl's, Bar Bill, and all those other ones I've been instructed to try over the past few years. It's been awhile since I had the burger and wings here but I remember them being very good. I'll try them again soon and add the info to the review. So while my previous review strongly recommended Frank's Grille based on the fish fry (and I still remember that fish fry so fondly), I'm here with an update after trying a burger and wings. For bar food, this is as good as it gets! The burger here is one of my favorites in the area (the other being Good Tymes South). The burger here is a bit smaller than the one at Good Tymes, but a bit more polished, especially with the option to get it on a Ciabatta roll (which they toast to absolute perfection). The burger I got was a California burger with avocado, bacon, and lettuce tomato and onion was cooked medium rare to perfection. The Ciabatta roll was toasted perfectly and the bacon was crispy and the burger juicy. Great seasoning too, not overdone with salt, but just right. I'd highly recommend their California burger. The fries that came with the burger were so-so. Not the best, I definitely prefer the ones from Good Tymes as they seem hand cut, but here they seem more like the pre-packaged variety. I also tried some wings and had an order of 10. At $10.99 for 10 wings, it's a little pricey and I'd give their wings a 7/10. 8 or 10 on the sauce for the wings and 5 for value. The wings are OK-sized, certainly not jumbo and at $10.99, it's a bit of a value-stretch, but they are certainly good. So if you're hankering for some wings, I can vouch for Frank's; they're just a bit of a price premium. I simply had the medium but they had a lot of different flavors as well. Here's a line from my previous review about the fish fry as well: "You're asked how you want it (broiled, beer battered, etc.) and what side. You can choose a German potato salad, potato salad, fries, etc. I highly recommend the German potato salad! It also comes with cole slaw, macaroni salad and buttered toast, lemon and tartar sauce. It's a seriously huge plate of deliciousness! Huge portion. The fish was great -- very delicate white meat inside. Perfect with the lemon juice and tartar sauce. The beer batter fry was nice, very hardened shell on the outside and nicely flavored. The German potato salad was the absolute best! Potatoes in a pool of sauerkraut juice (or something of the sort) with bacon on top?! So. So. Good." If you're looking for great bar food and cheap drinks (I haven't tried any, but folks I was with had two pitcher's of beer and it came to around $16-18), Frank's is a great place. Be prepared for a wait for lunch and busy evenings! read more

We were looking for a place to have dinner last Saturday and Frank's grille came up. I haven't been here in a while and remembered having good drinks with friends there so we said let's try it out for dinner. I so very pleased we decided on this restaurant. We had five people with us and made reservations to eat. The menu had something for everyone. I ordered the special grilled scallops with linguine and roasted red pepper sauce. It was delicious!! I did get food envy when I saw what other people at my table order. The cheese burger club looked delicious as did the steak sandwich and my fellow diners confirmed it was delicious.
