1 Star LADWP has…read morebeen one of the most frustrating and damaging parts of my ADU project. My detached ADU received its Certificate of Occupancy, but LADWP has still not activated power because of confusing, inconsistent, and poorly communicated meter-spot instructions. This is not a minor inconvenience. The ADU is complete, but I cannot use it, rent it, advertise it, host anyone, or operate it because LADWP has not provided a clear path to meter installation and activation. LADWP first provided one meter-spot direction. Later, they issued a revised meter spot relocating the ADU meter panel. My licensed general contractor followed LADWP's revised instruction. Then LADWP issued a correction notice requiring a "2-gang panel," even though the primary house already has an existing meter and service, and the only new service needed is for the detached ADU. This requirement makes no sense to us without a clear written explanation. My licensed contractor has asked LADWP to clarify whether a new two-gang meter assembly is actually required or whether the correction notice was unclear or incorrect. Instead of quickly resolving the issue, LADWP has left me stuck after final approval with no power, no clear written correction, no confirmed reinspection date, and no confirmed activation date. The communication has been extremely poor. Different instructions, vague correction wording, and no urgent supervisor-level resolution have caused unnecessary delay and financial harm. As a homeowner, I relied on LADWP's instructions, my licensed contractor, and the inspection process. I should not be punished because LADWP issued confusing or inconsistent requirements. Every day this continues, I suffer real loss-of-use damages. A completed ADU sitting without power because LADWP cannot clearly explain its own meter requirement is unacceptable. LADWP needs serious improvement in accountability, communication, and customer service. Customers should not have to chase multiple departments, elected offices, customer relations, and supervisors just to get a basic written answer about meter installation after final approval.

Even better, sometimes I can walk here so I don't have to worry about feeding a meter. For a while, it was appointment only at this particular office which was frustrating since I just started coming back here again during this time, and was not aware (I wouldn't have been on any email list regarding this either). This went on for a few months then finally I was told next time in person that they were back open as normal. Now you take a ticket (deli-style) but the wait isn't usually long at all. Plenty of seating, security in the corner, all good. Employees at the window have been nothing but friendly; I almost look forward to coming here since I've never had bad service. Once again, I will say I am just paying a bill, not trying to get service turned on or any other issue. Thanks LADWP Hollywood office!

Each time it's due I go and I never feel stupidly d when I ask questions about it. It's just nice to be around kind humans that can help a customer understand their bill. It's a clean office and security is helpful as we all know it can get cray outside but inside we are safe and sound. Very rarely there is a wait and we are lucky compared to other electric offices in town. Thank you everybody, see you every 2 months! Your Hollywood neighbor - Beau :)
