I've been to the Suwanee location a couple times now and seeing a closer location in Duluth open up caught my attention!! We ventured late one evening (almost 8pm) and ordered some tofu soup with kalbi ribs. They get me with that combo option every time...! I love adding the kalguksu noodles for no additional cost. I love ordering the oyster soondubu, and there always plenty of oysters in the soup! They also offered us the cutest little aprons (re-useable, I do hope they launder them...) to avoid unfortunate tofu soup splatters, which I have been victim to many many times in the past. Friend and I came here for lunch on a Monday at noon. Surprisingly very few people were there. Ordered the lunch short ribs. Pretty good deal for all the food you get. You can even grab an Oreo cookie and a cup of coffee at the end. It's obvious they make their own banchan and tastes superior to many other restaurants. So Gong Dong is a Korean restaurant that serves tofu stew and barbecue dishes. The inside is very homey and traditional in terms of the vibes and decoration. There was hardly anyone when we got there on Sunday, so service was friendly and quick. We got the Soondubu Ramen, Soondubu Jjigae, and Beef Short Ribs. I added kimchi to the Soondubu Ramen, but it did not taste like kimchi... it tasted more like ramen noodles and I also think it was not as spicy as I wanted it to be, although I did ask for regular spice. My boyfriend added beef to his Soondubu Jjigae and he thought it was fine (he likes the Suwanee location more). I liked the Beef Short Ribs! They were marinated well. I will say that I think that the rice tastes a bit stale and the kimchi was not as fermented as much I wanted it to be. Maybe if I adjust the spice levels, I would like the soondubu more. I went here with my friend one weeknight after work. My friend doesn't eat beef or pork. I asked the waitress if there was and beef or pork in the broth for the Tofu stew and she said they could sub it out for plain water. She didn't say yes or no or give any specifics, just that the broth would be subbed out for water. I got the mushroom tofu stew with water instead of whatever their usual broth would be and I have to say it was pretty tasteless. I am not sure what I was expecting,, but it wasn't that. I asked for super spicy and it wasn't even normal spicy - not even mild spicy. The Tofu Stone Bowl Mixed Rice (Dol Sot Bibim Bap) was a bit of a disappointment, they just put plain, unseasoned soft tofu in the middle of the dish. Not even the Gochujang was enough to give the dish the extra flavor it needed. The Last thing we got was the seafood pancake. I feel it could have used more seafood and the soy sauce it came with could have used a bit more love, but it was the best out of the 3. Nothing special about the decor. They do have the call buttons at every table, so that's super convenient. The waitress was neither friendly nor mean. She was just there to do a job. I will say that their cold water is actually cold tea. I love cold Boricha so that's a plus. On the day we went everything was just mediocre. Wouldn't drive there to eat on purpose. I frequently dine at the Suwanee locations, but this was my first time at the Duluth location. I initially tried to go to a different restaurant, but for some reason was given terrible service, and we were ignored for 30 minutes so we walked out and came to So Gong Dong instead. Immediately upon entering, we could tell we were going to get much better service here and was happy with our decision to switch restaurants. We were greeted kindly and seated immediately at a large spacious table of our choice for our large party. Orders were taken immediately, and banchan was served immediately and replenished whenever we ran out. Food came out quickly fresh, sizzling, and hot as well. We ordered a couple tofu soups, a ramen soup, 2x hot stone bibimbaps, seafood pancake, and a to go order. Rice was served with the tofu soups and an egg for you to crack into it. We were given extra bowls to scoop our hot soups/rice into. The to go order was delivered towards the end of our meal with no need for a reminder. Everything was absolutely delicious. I love their seafood pancake and the sauce they give along with it. Their soups are generous with the toppings, and they give you plenty of rice to eat along with it. And their hot stone bibimbaps can't be beat. The portion is large enough that you could probably feed 2 people. And I love how hot it comes out that you could get a little bit of crunch in the rice. I was very please with my meal, as was the rest of my family, and I'm glad we came to dine here! My partner and I came in late on a Friday night, like 9:00 late when most businesses would be giving you some 'tude or trying to push you out. I ended up ordering beef sundubu with noodles, extra hot because, and let me be real with you for a sec.., hot is usually not hot enough, but I was humbled quickly. The extra hot was actually QUITE HOT LOL. I'm a spice fiend, but the owner must've seen that we were struggling, bc our sweet server brought us both ice cold soy milk on the house. Bless their hearts bc we would've died otherwise. Overall, the entire meal was great - my subdubu actually tasted like beef as I ordered, and the noodles were so satisfying! The service was incredible as well - the servers checked on us frequently and made sure we never went without banchan. As we were getting ready to leave, it started down-pouring outside (thanks, atlanta). My boyfriend was ready to make his heroic dash to swing the car around for me, but the owner insisted that he take his umbrella for this feat. For the second time this night, he'd saved our lives!! The server brought out the sides and water and then took our order. Sorry I forgot to take pictures. The food is mostly spicy although you can control the levels of spices that you want. We got the pork bulgogi with a tofu stew called Jiggae. Looks like soup a bit with tofu but you crack an egg into it and stir and it turns into a wonderful dish. The flavors stood out and the heat from the dishes were definitely strong. Our severs were attentive and quick. The restaurant is clean and modern. The hosts were very nice as well. Try it out. This place is amazing! Came in on a Friday night and was surprised that it wasn't more filled! We were seated immediately in one of their cozy little alcoves and the servers brought us some delicious and refreshing iced barley tea. The bonchon came soon after and those were also delicious! So gong dong is one of my favorite tofu spots! I got the beef noodle tofu soup extra spicy. It was actually spicy and I really enjoyed the flavor. They really pack the bowl with noodles! I do suggest ordering the seafood tofu soup over the beef though. There was not too much meat in my bowl and some of the pieces were more fatty than I'd like. They serve the regular banchans here and regularly ask if you'd like a refill. My favorite dish here however is the grilled mackerel! Please get this !!! The fish is grilled to perfection and tastes amazing with the lime! They also give you a dipping sauce that tastes kind of like wasabi, it is the perfect pair for the fish! Wellbean used to be my favorite Korean tofu house in the world, so I had very high expectations coming into So Gong Dong, which recently took its place. And what do you know, this is some of the best soondubu I have ever had! We came for lunch around 1pm on a Wednesday, and there was plenty of seating. The service was warm and efficient, and we ordered two clam tofu soups and a seafood pancake to share. The tofu soup is just outstanding: the broth is super flavorful, the tofu is silky smooth, and the rice comes in a proper stone pot. After you scoop the rice out of the stone pot, the staff pours barley tea over the remaining charred rice to make tea soup. Wellbean was one of the only tofu houses I'd been to that did this, and I loved it so much, so I'm thrilled to see that So Gong Dong is keeping up the tea soup service. The seafood pancake was also good: large, filling, crispy at the edges. It was a big expensive (~$18) compared to the tofu soup (~$13), but overall, the food here was phenomenal. If you're familiar with So Gong Dong already, then you know this is one of the best places to go for tofu soup. This new location in Duluth, means you don't have to drive all the way to Suwanee. There's a variety of styles for tofu soup, including ramen and knife cut noodles. The tofu soup with noodles has got to be my favorite, especially paired with the grilled mackerel (so good) combination special. Other favorites would include the bibimbap stone plate, which in my opinion is superior to the stone bowl because there's far more surface area to get all the crispy bits. This place is a small chain of restaurants with locations in other places such as LA and even Busan. It's reliably good and consistent. It's also reliably consistent in the things I don't particularly like such as the very limited banchan. It's still one of my favorite places to eat Korean food though. read more

My friends and I came to try SGD after a visit to Spaland. For some reason after going to the Korean spa, I only want to eat Korean food! SGD has a comprehensive menu for a tofu house, and you can get their tofu soup with various types of noodles, too. They also have varieties of SDB that you might not see at every tofu house, such as soup with fish roe (not big popping roe, it's the sacs of small roe) or intestines. The banchan are pretty good and seemingly unlimited here, with a good variety. It isn't the *best* kimchi I've ever had but is solid. The tofu soup is delicious, and if you get it with the noodles it is solidly a two-meal size portion. Definitely take some home for snack later or lunch the next day, it keeps well. read more

Come across this restaurant when we went to lunch with mother in law next door and the name remind us of the one in Suwannee. We did a little digging and it is another location of the same one in Suwanee with the exception that this location is way closer to there house than the other one. We ordered the normal stuff that we always do. Instead of the dumplings like normal we did the seafood and beef since we haven't got it in a while, a full size LA galbi, beef dolsot bibimbap, and the mackerel. We were happy they still have the stone pot rice due to so many Korean restaurant nowadays changing to only give you a regular bowl. We love to eat the scorched rice with the tea or even the soup is so satisfying. Our server was an older gentleman and he was so nice and always checking on us to see if we need anything else. I really hate to do this review because I take no enjoyment in doing so, but I am so taking back by the service. About a week ago I had dinner there with my family (yes i took a moment before I wrote this) and the food was fine. However when the bill came I found out I was charged a extra $5.00 for using my credit card and not cash?? OK so fine I understand that some restaurants charge a small fee like 2% of the final bill or something like that when using a cc and even tho I still disagree with that, this $5.00 is over 5% of my bill!! Really why am I being punished for doing business with you. I am spending my money at your restaurant while driving pass numerous other tofu restaurants to eat at your place. That Just did not settle in with me that well. On top of that the establishment still expected 18% in tip...... ah no I don't think so. I will not be coming back and if I can help it nobody i know will either. Our daughter suggested this restaurant, even though none of us had ever tried it before. Boy are we all glad that we did! The food was fantastic! The banchan was delicious! They had the best pickled cucumbers we'd ever had. I don't know how they fixed the bean spouts and soup broth, but they were wonderful! Our daughter had tofu jjigae with mild spice level (you can choose the spice level you prefer, which is a nice option) and my husband and I had dolsot beef bibimbap.
