Cute aprons provided to avoid soup splatters @tiffhuangry

SOON DUBU IS SO DANG GOOD at So Gong Dong in Duluth (ok, I know that was quite a stretch lol)! I've been to the Suwanee location a couple times now and seeing a closer location in Duluth open up caught my attention!! We ventured late one evening (almost 8pm) and ordered some tofu soup with kalbi ribs. They get me with that combo option every time...! I love adding the kalguksu noodles for no additional cost. I love ordering the oyster soondubu, and there always plenty of oysters in the soup! They also offered us the cutest little aprons (re-useable, I do hope they launder them...) to avoid unfortunate tofu soup splatters, which I have been victim to many many times in the past. I love the private booths that each table is divided by, giving it a more intimate vibe. Definitely recommend So Gong Dong when choosing a tofu soup in Duluth! Now we just need another location... on Buford Highway next, please!

    Lunch short ribs

Friend and I came here for lunch on a Monday at noon. Surprisingly very few people were there. Ordered the lunch short ribs. Pretty good deal for all the food you get. You can even grab an Oreo cookie and a cup of coffee at the end. It's obvious they make their own banchan and tastes superior to many other restaurants. Service is excellent and they are very attentive. Only negative is I wish they played their music a tad softer to make it easier to hold a conversation. But, well worth the money for the quality and quantity of food and excellent service.

My friend suggested that we come here for Kimchi Stew and this place did not disappoint. They bring the stew very hot and you can choose how spicy you want it. I ordered the regular spicy level and it was delicious. The restaurant has plenty of seats and very spacious. The service was very efficient and pleasant. They have many different options but I forgot to take pictures of the menu. I really enjoyed it and I know that I will be back.

So Gong Dong is a Korean restaurant that serves tofu stew and barbecue dishes. The inside is very homey and traditional in terms of the vibes and decoration. There was hardly anyone when we got there on Sunday, so service was friendly and quick. We got the Soondubu Ramen, Soondubu Jjigae, and Beef Short Ribs. I added kimchi to the Soondubu Ramen, but it did not taste like kimchi... it tasted more like ramen noodles and I also think it was not as spicy as I wanted it to be, although I did ask for regular spice. My boyfriend added beef to his Soondubu Jjigae and he thought it was fine (he likes the Suwanee location more). I liked the Beef Short Ribs! They were marinated well. I will say that I think that the rice tastes a bit stale and the kimchi was not as fermented as much I wanted it to be. Maybe if I adjust the spice levels, I would like the soondubu more. Overall, this is an okay spot for spicy tofu stew! There are also other Korean dishes on the menu if spicy tofu stew is not what you like, such as grilled meats and Korean pancakes!

Solid soondooboo kalguksu (noodle), good flavor, good amount or meat. Sided were decent, I liked the cucumber kimchi, kimchi, and odeng. All in all, good meal!

Right off the bat, service was very attentive; which everyone loves! Atmosphere here is chill I'd say and would definitely come back. Food 10/10. Hot and fast, what more is there to say??

I frequently dine at the Suwanee locations, but this was my first time at the Duluth location. I initially tried to go to a different restaurant, but for some reason was given terrible service, and we were ignored for 30 minutes so we walked out and came to So Gong Dong instead. Immediately upon entering, we could tell we were going to get much better service here and was happy with our decision to switch restaurants. We were greeted kindly and seated immediately at a large spacious table of our choice for our large party. Orders were taken immediately, and banchan was served immediately and replenished whenever we ran out. Food came out quickly fresh, sizzling, and hot as well. We ordered a couple tofu soups, a ramen soup, 2x hot stone bibimbaps, seafood pancake, and a to go order. Rice was served with the tofu soups and an egg for you to crack into it. We were given extra bowls to scoop our hot soups/rice into. The to go order was delivered towards the end of our meal with no need for a reminder. Everything was absolutely delicious. I love their seafood pancake and the sauce they give along with it. Their soups are generous with the toppings, and they give you plenty of rice to eat along with it. And their hot stone bibimbaps can't be beat. The portion is large enough that you could probably feed 2 people. And I love how hot it comes out that you could get a little bit of crunch in the rice. I was very please with my meal, as was the rest of my family, and I'm glad we came to dine here! I normally have a regular restaurant I go to in Duluth, but after the poor experience I had there prior to coming here, this may be my new spot!

Great service and a nice place to stop for lunch! I was seated in a more private area and I liked it! The staff were efficient and helpful when I had questions about the menu. I ordered the soondubujjigae with seafood and beef, regular spice. It was very flavorful and the rice was awesome! I love the little pot that allows it to get a crispy bottom. The banchan was pretty good as well! The prices are fair and you will probably leave with leftovers!! I recommend this spot!

    Beef sundubu with noodles

I'm always on the quest for the best sundubu and my last visit to so gong dong just cemented this joint as my #1. My partner and I came in late on a Friday night, like 9:00 late when most businesses would be giving you some 'tude or trying to push you out. Nope, we sat down and were instantly greeted by a kind server, who presented an array of delicious banchan. My favorite was the bean sprouts - they were perfectly seasoned and refreshing! I ended up ordering beef sundubu with noodles, extra hot because, and let me be real with you for a sec.., hot is usually not hot enough, but I was humbled quickly. The extra hot was actually QUITE HOT LOL. I'm a spice fiend, but the owner must've seen that we were struggling, bc our sweet server brought us both ice cold soy milk on the house. Bless their hearts bc we would've died otherwise. Overall, the entire meal was great - my subdubu actually tasted like beef as I ordered, and the noodles were so satisfying! The service was incredible as well - the servers checked on us frequently and made sure we never went without banchan. As we were getting ready to leave, it started down-pouring outside (thanks, atlanta). My boyfriend was ready to make his heroic dash to swing the car around for me, but the owner insisted that he take his umbrella for this feat. For the second time this night, he'd saved our lives!! Overall, I will always love this place - for the incredible food, the cozy, friendly vibes, but above all, the genuine kindness from the owner that restored my faith in humanity. 10/10 would recommend you coming here!!

Side dishes at So Gong Dong

We were visiting some of my wife's relatives in the Atlanta area and decided to look around for some Korean food for dinner. We came upon a large strip mall with so many options but we decided on So Gong Dong, a tofu and bbq joint. We were greeted nicely and seated right away. The restaurant looked about 60% full. The server brought out the sides and water and then took our order. Sorry I forgot to take pictures. The food is mostly spicy although you can control the levels of spices that you want. We got the pork bulgogi with a tofu stew called Jiggae. Looks like soup a bit with tofu but you crack an egg into it and stir and it turns into a wonderful dish. The flavors stood out and the heat from the dishes were definitely strong. Our severs were attentive and quick. The restaurant is clean and modern. The hosts were very nice as well. Try it out. You should like it.

Good was so flavorful and so good. Service was fast. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a hostess and sat right away. The ban chan was absolutely flavorful and delicious. I ordered the kimchi soon tofu with the ramen and a heineken. It was so good. The ambiance was nice and chill. Very cool restaurant. I'll definitely be back with my girl friend and some friends.

This place is amazing! Came in on a Friday night and was surprised that it wasn't more filled! We were seated immediately in one of their cozy little alcoves and the servers brought us some delicious and refreshing iced barley tea. The bonchon came soon after and those were also delicious! I loved the spicy pickled cucumbers. We ordered the soondubu ramen with beef and soondubu noodle with beef. The portions were a lot bigger than we expected but it was still packed with flavor. The tofu was very silky and the noodles were bouncy. Service was OUTSTANDING! They came back with refills on our bonchon when they noticed we were plowing through them. They constantly checked on us. When the owner noticed we were sweating from the spice, he brought us soy milk on the house. He even lent us his umbrella to walk to our car since it started to downpour! Overall great experience and we'll definitely be back!

Everything my friend and I ordered were sooo good! We found this spot & now we can't wait to go back! The staff & the place were nice. It was just an overall an amazing experience with delicious food

Just a heads up so others don't get confused like I did. The place was pretty busy, which made it feel like a popular spot. The atmosphere was nice and everything looked clean and well kept. Even though it was crowded, our server was very friendly and attentive. They cooked the meat right at the table, which made the experience better. The fried rice (볶음밤) they made on the grill at the end, especially with the pork belly, was honestly the best part. Overall, really enjoyed it and would definitely come back.

Shortly after we were seated, (literally 1-2 minutes) about 3 employees came to our table letting us know we needed to order within the next few minutes. It was like 10:05. I tried asking one of the employee what the meat options were and was just interrupted by him being persistent in us ordering and did not really answer our questions, mainly because I noticed some of the meat options were pork and I do not consume pork for personal reasons. My partner and I felt overwhelmed and just ordered something we thought would not include pork. After submitting our order another employee came by with the check already without us asking insisting for us to pay before our food even came out. Mind you the restaurant closed within 20 minutes at this point. When our food did come out, it did contain PORK!!! We just left shortly afterwards and left the food on the table.

This time, I brought my friend who has never had Korean bbq before for her to try. We went right when it opened so it was quiet. I told the server it was her first time and he was eager to explain everything to her. I don't think she was prepared at all what was about to grace our table He brought out a cart full of side dishes and start to explain what each one is along with the flavor profile. When he got to the scallion salad, she was just not loving it, but he told her to at least try and see what she thinks (don't knock it til you try it!) Then he said they're still getting the charcoal ready so it'll be a few more minutes and my friend's eyes just (like what?) So we start with trying a bite of all the sides. She enjoyed everything except the sliced onion salad. Surprisingly, she loved everything else, including the scallion salad! She's a texture eater, so I was weary of her trying the tofu, but she really enjoyed that too! So... the charcoal comes out, and she's just Then the server brings the grill with the cheesy corn, spicy bean sprout, and he poured in the eggs. Followed by the meats! Since she didn't really know what she likes, I made a few suggestions and the server suggests letting him bring us the most popular items first and we can work our way through the menu. What a great idea!! Started with brisket and ribeye and wow ... meats were fresh, paired with the sides, and the dipping sauces, it's just chef's kiss!! We then had bulgogi and pork belly and those were just bursting with flavor! The cheesy corn was good but burned too fast on the grill, the spicy bean sprouts are amazing, and the steam egg is my favorite . The only downside is that if you don't eat those sides that are cooking on the grill right away they'll turn dry and burned and it won't be as good. The cheesy corn also caused some splattering to our hands when we were cooking the meats. The server apologized for the oil splattering since he heard the squeal immediately soak up the oil from the cheesy corn so the splattering would stop. Overall, my friend gave it 10/10!!!
