I use to come here and they would always do such a great job. However, since I've changed my insurance, I cannot come here anymore. Phillip has always helped me in the past with contacts, glasses, and orders. When he ordered me contacts and had them delivered to me (which was awesome) he asked that I send back the old contacts (which I did), but when I called they have not received the contacts. I have offered to pay for the difference, but unfortunately, he has been VERY unpleasant to talk to. I hope his attitude changes. read more

My first time coming here today I just moved from LA county to Upland and I always drive by this place and I finally said to myself, "I need to see and optometrist!" I was having difficulty seeing at night, I was squinting and I was having a hard time concentrating on signs and others things. That is what made me come into this office . It was fast, friendly, and they very attentive to what I needed. I ended up getting a small prescription, I've never had to get glasses so I didn't even know where to start with picking frames or what not, but one of the girls was sweet enough to show me what my insurance covered and if I wanted to get a little fancier she showed me the other side, in the end i ended up getting black framed Dolce &Gabbana frames. I was done with the entire process in less than an hour, and that included an optional test I opted for due to my family history. These people are so accommodating! The exam was thorough and my new Rx seems just right. Most glasses are too big for me so they really made the effort to find the right size and style to fit my needs. I've gotten both regular near/far glasses and Rx sunglasses. Both work very well. Been coming to Dr. So optometrist in Upland for about 10-15 yrs and I've never had a complaint. Dr. So is truly a professional and takes the time to give you the right diagnosis for your eyes. I was just recently able to purchase a new pair of RAYBAN prescription lenses,(astigmatism) for $100. $100!!!!! IM A STUDENT and that is a steal! They found me the best deals through my insurance and still waived me some! They even go as far as to help you with rebates on contact lenses! They give you trials before your actual contacts arrive and are very speedy and efficient! ( you can also work out some type of payment plans with them) Yes, the location is kind of hard to get in to, so I park at Walgreens and walk over. For the most part, the staff is consistent and very very nice. Inside is very well lit( clean and spacious) and you almost forget what the outside looks like for just a moment (construction down the main road, Route 66) Don't forget to score some DumDums on your way out! We have been coming to see Dr. So for our family's optical needs since back in the day when he had an office at the Montclair Plaza and our sons were quite young! Two of us wear glasses and 2 of us do not wear glasses at all. Our sons are now in their 20's. My husband and I are in our 50's and we all still visit this Optometrist's office yearly for our check-ups. Dr. So is very friendly and treats us as family because we've known him for many years. We are never treated like a number there. Dr. So continually encourages us to take care of our precious sight by periodically sending out an informative newsletters in regards to eye health. He sends out a reminder to schedule our yearly visit which usually includes a discount of some type which is always appreciated. His staff which includes his brother Phillip treat us like family. I have been to Dr. So since I was 5 years old. I am now 30 and he has been seeing my daughter since she was 5! My husband and best friend have also converted to Dr. So and absolutely LOVE him and the entire staff there. Phillip and Jen are like family! They know us all by name and are so great to work with. As a mother I am always looking for the best possible care for my daughter. Lately her vision has been a little off and Dr. So has been seeing her every 6 months to monitor her. I appreciate that he does that rather than just throwing glasses on her. After about a year and a half of monitoring we (Dr. So and I) decided that we were going to go ahead with the glasses for academic use. My family and I have been going to Dr. So for many many years and all because the service he and his wonderful staff provide. In this day and age it is so great to see a business who truly believes in customer service and the personal touch. You come across so many doctors that will just treat you like a number and want you in and out... That is not the case here AT ALL!!! From the moment you walk through the door you are greeted by the staff... There is minimal paperwork just straight and to the point. You are then immediately taken back for your pretest after that is complete the DR has never taken more than 5 minutes to come into the office. Dr. So takes the time to get to know you as a person and a patient asking for medical background, family history and just about you. He is very open to questions and breaks down your results and his recommendations. After your office visit a member of his staff assist you in finding the correct pair of glasses or fitting correct contacts. The selection of glasses is large... something for every price range. The staff member will go over your coverage (if it applies) and let you know exactly can and will meet your expectations. I visited Dr. So's office on 7/12/11 and one day later I got the call my glasses were ready for pickup. Doesn't get any quicker than that!!! Dr. So currently advertises in the PennySaver so if you don't have insurance take a look he has some great deals!!! Background: Previously, I had what I felt was just bad customer service from another doctor. Later to find out that the bad customer service doctor had actually also practiced careless eye care on me. The so called "optometrist" had actually given me the wrong contacts prescription which did damage to my eyes. I am SO THANKFUL I was referred to Dr. Jimmy So by a coworker (before irreparable damage was done). He has been my optometrist for about 4-5 years now. I highly recommend Dr. So with full confidence to anyone & everyone without a moments hesitation. Dr. So is AWESOME. You get the sense immediately that he is extremely knowledgeable in his field of work the minute he starts speaking to you. He puts you to ease right away by giving you the peace of mind that your precious vision is in the best hands. Not only is Dr. So thorough and professional; he is generous, patient, kind, and humble. He AND his team provide excellent customer service. They are all extremely helpful and friendly and will not pressure you or offer you things you do not need. If you have MES Vision plan they are covered; they even make requesting flex reimbursements easy by giving you all the paperwork you'll need: 1) copy for your own records, 2) for your insurance, and even 3) an extra copy if a rebate is available on a particular brand you happen to get. For your convenience they offer having you contacts mailed directly to your home. They make helpful appointment reminder calls. Offer brand name designer frames if that's something that interests you. They have helpful in-house services; one time Dr. So's brother, Phillip (who also works there), made a point of getting my glasses thinned out (otherwise would have bottle cap glasses) the same day, even though I was already the evening's last appointment he stayed past store hours to get the job done so I wouldn't have to make a second trip out. I felt really compelled to write this review because Dr. So and his staff are really deserving of it. I have never asked Dr. So for a discount as I would willingly pay full price for the quality of services & products received. It really seems like Dr. So is very mindful of his clients and the costs of health care as there have been a couple of times he's automatically given courtesy discounts even when he knowingly could get away with charging more. Dr So is a good eye doctor, but his female staff are rude (at least they were in Feb 2011) and the glasses are overpriced. It's a good quality place to go if you have a ton of money to spend, I guess. I wound up spending $400 for some sunglasses, and I was told by the staff that using my old frames wouldn't save me any money. Very strange. Oh, and they don't make your glasses in an hour - it takes 1-3 weeks. Their penny saver ads make it sound like they make glasses in an hour. read more

So long story short, my eyes suck. Or, used to suck, rather. I had seen an Optometrist at Kaiser Permanente and he took 45 minutes to test my eyes and gave me glasses for well over 300 dollars. The glasses were super frail, too. A couple years later when I came to Dr. So I was done with the tests and exam in less than 20 minutes. The staff is really friendly and answered all of my questions, so just that alone is worth almost 5 stars. The prices here? EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE! Even though I have insurance which covers like $60 the cost for the nice glasses I want range from $40-$70 (even I as a poor college student can manage that). The place has a really relaxed atmosphere too. I really enjoy sitting in a well air conditioned business where it's quiet and there is plenty to look at or things to read. 5/5 stars. This place is the best. I will continue to go to this location or the location in Santa Ana when I move out to the O.C.! read more

Perhaps you're a little skeptical visiting an optometrist's office that is wedged between a Pizza Hut and a Yoshinoya; however, I assure you that the location is not what matters. In fact, the location might serve to its benefit. I'll go into further detail regarding that a bit further down. Dr. So has been my optometrist for a little over seven years now and every time I visit for a routine check-up, the process is nothing short of pleasant. The selection of frames is expansive - ranging from popular brands such as Fendi, Versace, Burberry, Ray-Ban, Oakley to much more reasonably priced frames that do not cost nearly as much. This establishment caters to everyone. Customer care is great here. There is minimal paperwork to fill out and walk-ins are encouraged. If you do not feel like waiting fifteen minutes to see the doctor, they are more than accommodating for impromptu appointments made by phone the day of. I had an appointment scheduled for 12PM after calling at 11AM. Their service really does go above and beyond. My interactions with the staff are always pleasant. Philip (Dr. So's brother) speaks Cantonese as well as English and I believe that one other receptionist speaks Spanish too. Dr. So himself is extremely patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. He takes the time to explain his diagnosis to you. Curious about what astigmatism is and how it might affect your eyesight like I did? No problem, he'll take the time to draw a diagram and explain it to you. He's also invested in your personal life. I did not visit him for two years because of course load and travel distance and he still managed to remember my change in majors, life goals, and any other topics we covered during my check-ups. Dr. So is in his Upland office Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and in the Santa Ana office on Mondays and Wednesdays. To top off the great service provided by Dr. So and his staff, after your eye exam and a careful selection of your frame of choice, lenses are made on the spot. Turnaround time for glasses is one hour. I don't know of anyone that has a quicker turnaround time. And if you think that you cannot sit in an office for an hour, you can walk outside for a variety of food places. There's a Chipotle down the street, less than a 3 minute walk away, if the food establishments next to the office are not to your liking. Albertson's is also right across the way. If you decide to order contacts, they'll issue you a trial pair and you can either have your contacts picked up the next day or mailed to you. The turnaround time is nearly the same with either option. I cannot write a more glowing review for Dr. So and his staff. If you want professional, friendly, and quick service, I highly recommend that you visit him for your eye-care needs. read more

Excellent service! This was my first time coming here and I was thoroughly impressed at the timeliness of service and the level of personal attention that I received. I arrived early for my appointment, but it wasn't a problem! I was immediately given the battery of pre-exam tests and saw the optometrist immediately after.
