Bulk/plastic-free stores can be really intimidating, but Soap Refill Station makes it easy and fun to be sustainable! Step 0: Find parking in Waldo. This is the hardest part. Try to pick a low traffic time when there's space in the lot out front or on the street. Or maybe go park at Aldi and pop across the street. Step 1: Bring your empty, clean reusable containers that you already have in your home! If you forget or don't have the right size container, they have tons of donations right inside the door. You can donate bottles sometimes, but if they have a lot, they will stop accepting donations. Step 2: Go to the counter to get your empty container weighted! They will write the empty weight on the container so that they can subtract it when you fill the container and go to pay later. You only pay for the product you're buying. Step 3: Browse! They have beauty, cleaning, and toiletry items. Cut-your-own-bar soap. Liquid hand soap, detergent, shampoo, conditioner, and dish soap. Plastic-free skin care. Bath bombs. Towels and brushes. They have cheap and expensive options for most products. Pay attention to the unit prices! For a lot of products, they will have signs that help you estimate how much your container will cost when full (ex. one gallon of this dish soap will cost approx $X). There's instructions for how to dispense the product if the mechanism looks complicated, so never fear. If you go with the fun-scented, luxury products, you will end up paying a ton of money. But if you go with the more affordable options, you'll pay about as much as a plastic option, maybe even less! Pay a little bit more and relish in your sustainability. Step 4: Head to the counter, and they will weigh your filled container, subtract the empty weight, and calculate the cost of the product. Make sure to remember or write down the product you selected so you can tell them when you get to the counter! And be honest! It's as easy as that! I love coming here for essentials and for fun! This store is wonderful! The staff gives me a warm welcome each time I come in and is so helpful in directing me toward what I'm looking for. They have almost every household and beauty product imaginable to refill your own container, or you can grab one of their free/donated containers. They'll even put a neat label on your container if you desire. The price point is just as it should be for refilling clean products. It incentivizes you to use their products, saving plastic for the earth and money for your pocket. I look forward to trying many more of their products. read more

I am obsessed with this store!! I love being able buy in bulk and not contribute to plastic waste. Right now my go to products are the citrus hand soap, lavender laundry detergent, and bubble bath. I use shampoo bars right now but I'm always tempted to try their liquid shampoos and conditioners! My best friend has tried the toothpaste tabs and wasn't a huge fan but liked the cut-your-own bar soap. Next on my list to dip into is cleaning products. Be sure to bring your own containers to fill! The cashier will weigh them before you fill anything. If you have a ton of extra jars, etc you can bring them in to donate! Call beforehand and make sure they're accepting donations - I've brought a box in before and then had to carry them around! They have nice mason jars and dispensers for purchase as well as a free bucket of donated containers. I'm honestly not sure how price/oz of product stacks up vs a normal store but it always feels reasonable to me. Would love a franchise closer to downtown. This store is unique and well thought-out with high quality products. I've been wanting to replace single-use plastic containers in my house for awhile now, but didn't know where to start. My answer was right here! You can bring in your own reusable containers or grab free ones from their "donation" bin at the front of the store. If you have extra containers at home that would work well for soaps/cleaning supplies, you can donate them for other customers to use. Phenomenal concept! I now purchase all my hand soap (their foaming soap is the bomb!), dish soap, laundry soap, body wash, glass cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner, and dish washer pods from this spot. My dishes, windows and mirrors literally sparkle, my clothes come out spotless every time, and the body wash is so smooth. I used to use their bar body soap which was great, but it was a little pricy so I decided to switch to the liquid soap. I also purchased a dryer ball and it's been going strong since August - no more single use dryer sheets! I've tried their lavender, eucalyptus mint, and citrus scents and citrus is my favorite. All their scents are natural smelling and not too strong. I have dry skin so I use their gentle (?) dish soap and it doesn't irritate or dry out my skin. I hope that the SOAP Refill Station is a trend setter in Kansas City - I would love to see more stores so focused on natural products and sustainable sourcing + packaging. I love this store! I just happened to see it while looking for Jovito's new location. Such an excellent concept! Refill your own plastic bottles or they have them available. Bring in your CLEAN empty bottles to leave for other people to use. I absolutely love the Molly's Super Powder laundry soap! It cleans, whitens, and brightens! The Vermont Veggie wash works really well, too. They have so many products from the companies that use natural ingredients. I saw Dr. Bronner's, Better Life, and many others. From make-up to toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair care, laundry, dog shampoo to floor cleaning...you'll find what you need there. Other than the great products, reasonable prices, reduction in plastics going into the landfills, I will go back because of the great service! The woman that helped me (I wish I had gotten her name) was not somebody that stood at the counter and hoped I'd stumble up with something I wanted to purchase! She knew details about every product, wasn't pushy, but a true consultant. I figured she owned the store but she said she didn't. Wow! Rarely do I encounter great service like that in a retail store.
