I saw him about 10 years ago, and last Friday we went to Desafinado, sitting at table #17. The view wasn't great at first because the party in front of us were tall fellas, but a small miracle happened: a couple in the front row traded tables with us, not wanting to be so close! So, the first "obstacle" was solved. The concert took a while to start; we arrived around 10:30 pm, and by midnight, there was still no sign of Amaury. But once it began, it was magical. His music sounded amazing, and the sound quality at Desafinado was impressive. Plus, there were some great surprise guests, like the amazing Luis Enrique and five others (I can't remember all their names, but they were all fantastic). The only downside was that no one ever came by to take our order. Since we'd just come from Fleming's Steakhouse and were super full, it wasn't a huge issue, not enough to cost them a star. The next day, we spent the whole day playing Amaury Gutierrez's music at home! Desafinado is a great place to experience a close, personal, and intimate concert with Latin romantic artists. Good atmosphere, great sound, easy parking, but questionable service.

I strolled in here the other day after a meeting in the area in need of picking up a bottle of wine before a dinner. I'm so happy I did! This little shop surprised me in so many ways. I went in thinking the selection would be pricey, and I was pleasantly surprised. They had some really nice wines at various price points - I'm talking under $10 to of course, some fancy ones for $$$. I picked up a really nice bottle of Vermentino for $12. I also found out you can save 10% when you pick up 6 or more bottles. They've also got wine tastings on Friday evenings from 5- 7 pm. That is my kind of happy hour! Will definitely be back to pick up some wine when I'm in the area.

This particular store is on NW 7th St. not far from Marlin's Park. We stopped here as we wanted to try and get some quality ginger beer for making Moscow Mules, and a 6 pack of beer. While I've never been to any of the other Jensen's Liquors locations, this one is relatively small and tightly packed inside (but interestingly decorated with acoustic and electric guitars and surfboards mounted to the ceiling trusses). The bottles of wine and champagne in this store cost a dollar or two more than you can buy them for in grocery stores, and their liquors are also not the cheapest I've seen. As far as the two items we were looking for - We were hoping to find bottles of Fever Tree ginger beer which can be found at Total Wine or even Milam's IGA. Here at Jensen's they had the same relatively poor quality ginger beer in cans that one can find at Publix, and you needed to buy a 6 pack of it..So you risked getting it home only to find it was crap and you'd be stuck with 5 more cans of the stuff. As far as beer, we were looking for something like Modelo or Corona bottles. They had both, but rather than traditional 6 packs, they had cut down 12 pack boxes -They'd cut the boxes in 1/2 with a knife, put 6 bottles of beer inside each of the cut box sections and closed the open end with tape. Not only is Hannah's selection of wine incredible, but she is the best host, and I will, without a doubt, be organizing events in her space again in the future. The shop is located right on East Flagler Street, and her selection is so eclectic and thoughtfully curated that I doubt most of these bottles can be found in your local grocery store. I can genuinely see Backbone Wine Co. substituting the big-box wine buying experience for me entirely. There's something really special about walking into a space where every bottle feels intentionally chosen and where the owner is excited to help you discover something new. Whether you're a serious wine lover or someone who simply wants a great bottle and a warm experience, Backbone Wine Co. is an absolute gem for Miami.
