After moving 3 years ago up to Port Jervis, I was completely out of the loop on where to host my husband's party in the Bronx while still making it convenient for family and friends to attend. I wanted to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday on Saturday, May 16th, and after searching a few places, I settled on Sobro Garden especially after finding out it was one of Jimmy's spots. We celebrated with 30 of our closest family and friends, and it truly became a night he said he'll never forget. Where do I start? Let me begin by saying Sobro Garden, you guys did NOT disappoint!! First and foremost, thank you Jimmy, because when I tell you this man went above and beyond to make everyone feel like family at his establishment, I truly mean it. Jimmy personally checked in with everyone going table to table making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, asking if everything was good from the drinks, atmosphere, music and food was to satisfaction because he genuinely wanted everyone to enjoy and especially told my husband it's a blessing to hit a milestone, celebrating with family and friendsand hope his place made it a memorable one. Jimmy is truly a perfectionist at heart. A host beyond host!! Even taking pictures with everyone. He took several pictures with my husband and even accidentally walked away with his iPhone for a moment & my husband allow his too he didn't realize it was his phone until I told him. Our maître d', Suhaily, was such a beautiful soul inside and out. She made the entire booking process for my husband's event feel effortless. She guided me step by step, helped choice a menu plan, stayed in communication the whole time and was so patient, kind and welcoming the moment I arrived. Her smile and warm hearted present made the experience even better. She greeted me as if we knew each other for years and our waitress and waiter? Absolutely AMAZING. My husband, our guests and I were attended to with such PRISTINE EXCELLENCE all night long. Now let's talk about the FOOD... because BABY!!! Everything was DELICIOUS. I can't even single out one item because every dish hit the spot. Everyone at our tables ordered something different, so we all got to taste a little bit of everything from the pernil, steak & onions, grilled salmon, chicken, arroz con gandules, fried fish, steak skewers and BABY... those famous Crack Wings Rub had everybody wanting to eat their fingers To top it all off, the highlight of the night was seeing Melle Mel celebrating his birthday from the day before and actor Darrin Henson, so handsome in person was also in the building. Both were so down-to-earth and when Melle Mel grabbed the mic, he absolutely brought the house down!! This restaurant is beautifully decorated. There's so many photo ops. I recommend having a reservation or ordering food ahead of time to go or get delivered. The food here is always good. Doesn't matter what i order from here, it's always delicious. I especially like their salmon with veggies and mash & shrimp scampi with veggies and mash. I also love their flan and cheesecake. The ambiance was really nice and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I made reservations for a party of 16 at 3pm to celebrate my niece HS graduation. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The menu was prefixed with different items to choose from from steak, chicken, salmon pernil and honestly everyone at the table enjoy their dishes.. The food was flavorful, though a few things could've been seasoned or cooked a bit better for my taste(the salmon and pernil) The crack wings & Drinks were definitely on point though. I have come here twice once for a bridal shower and then recently for dinner. The bridal shower was really nice, they had a pre fix and the staff was very friendly. When I came for dinner we sat at the bar and it was a great time. I can not remember her name but she was really nice and attentive. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and fried pork chunks. My food was really good and the portion was generous. I had two drinks which were really strong they were on happy hour. I would definitely come back and I recommend this place. Sobro Garden is a fairly new Puerto Rican spot in the South Bronx alongside other restaurants. One of my girlfriends and I met up for dinner here on Saturday and it was a decent experience from start to finish. The general manager, Kwame met us at the door and brought us to our seat. He was so sweet and inviting to us as new customers and he made sure that we were comfortable. The place is super cute inside and the music was decent too. Only thing is that it was a bit too loud so talking was sometimes a challenge. I ordered the churrasco skirt steak with arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) and it was good (not amazing). The steak could've used a little more salt and chimichurri. It could've been more tender also, but the rice was cooked well. The chocolate lava cake that I ordered for dessert wasn't a true chocolate lava cake as there was just a pool of warm chocolate on top of the cake instead of it oozing out. We were also given samples of the frozen sangria, which was really good!! Our waiter was patient and attentive and the GM was great. They get 5 stars for service in my book. Man, some real highs and lows with this spot! Talking through the highs first- I really have to shout out my waitress and the service overall! She was attentive and gave so many helpful suggestions on food and drinks. A truly bubbly personality which made me excited to check out the food. Another highlight was the restaurant in general. I'm always hype to try out a new neighborhood spot and it was encouraging to see this place fairly full on a random weeknight. And lastly, the drinks! I caught the tail end of happy hour and tried the frozen sangria margarita. So delicious and a unique take on two classics! And now for the lows- unfortunately I found my meal to be a bit disappointing. For the table we ordered beef skewers which came with a side of mash potatos. For mains I ordered the oxtail meal while my friend ordered steak and eggs which also came with fries and plantains. Unfortunately I found all three parts of our meal to be lacking flavor. Our steak skewers came out sitting in a pool of bloody juices and the rice that came alongside my oxtails were undercooked. I'm hoping we just happened to catch this place on an off night! It is hard to get a five star rating out of me, but man this place worked hard and went above and beyond to get it. I wanted to celebrate my best-friend's 40th birthday here and I called this place a couple of times asking for information and ways we could make it special. The staff assured me everything would be fine and they delivered . Our reservations were for 5:30p they were ok with us bringing a cake and some small decorations like flowers and balloons for the birthday earlier than out reservations. We were greeted by Ms Ariel and she helped us set it up for us while we left to pick up my best friend. Ariel understood the assignment and made it amazing thank you so much. My best friend is a hard working single mom of 3 who would give you the shirt off her back if it meant helping you. So this was important to me to make her feel loved and special since she always goes above and beyond for everyone else. We got there they she was surprised we weren't rushed it was amazing and the staff was lovely and friendly the place is beautiful nice and clean. The most important thing you're here to read, how was the food? Well each dish was quite delicious very delightful & full of flavor and it was also very decadent. The food was well made with love tenderness and you could taste it in every bite. Came here on a random night. I as greeted by the host and was told we could sit anywhere. My first impression was that the place gave off a neighborly vibe. The waitress who served us was soo friendly and engaging. I regret not getting her name but she was slim and had a French bob hairstyle. If only for the service I would visit this place again. The food unfortunately did not match up to the wonderful front of house service. The food lacked butter, salt, and a bit of other spices. The food was cooked well but lacked overall flavor. Extremely nondescript from the outside but when you open those doors and pull away the curtains you will be transported into a beautiful garden like restaurant. Eye candy abounds. It is dark so you need your eye to adjust but that just sets the tone. Went with my wife and brother. Had reservations but it wasn't crowded around 2pm on a Sunday. The menu is a little iPad so finding what you want was not an issue. The drinks were good. My only complaint was the appetizer arriving the same time as entrees. However our server took the 'L' on that one and apologized for not being on top of things. Appreciate the honesty. Always a vibe. I'm a frequent diner at this establishment and have been a longtime supporter of Jimmy Rodriguez and his food stays consistent, along with the energy in the establishment. The drinks are solid, the ambience is relaxed and comfortable, the entertainment of music and sports game on the huge TV is always top notch. The go-to spot whenever I have visitors in the city and just want good food from my boro. I often start with the Fried Frisch tenders appetizer and the tostones, which are always fresh and come out hot like food should at any restaurant. The drinks are always done well and the draft beers are served covered cold. Visited this establishment for my birthday on a Thursday and it wasn't packed as expected for a Thursday. Manager was very friendly, very accomimodating and came by to check on us frequently. Decor 9/10 (very pretty, but the throne seats always throws me off due to it only having one arm rest lol but every else is just lovely) Very spacious restaurant with a long bar) Service 10/10 Very attentive, professional, & pleasant. Food 9/10 (at least what I've eaten & enjoyed) I always get the same thing: Grilled Pork Chops & Shrimp Fried Rice...with requested soy sauce on the side...sooooo good. Pork is wellll seasoned. The catfish strips are good too. The veggies are very bland. I didn't care for the skirt steak. So 9/10 for the food I ate and enjoyed. Drinks: 8/10 Hit or miss. I have been here several times with my best friend. The first time I dined here, it was awesome, my server, Jonathan, was amazing, and the food was great, not one complaint!! Now the last few times we have gone it's usually on a Sunday afternoon, the server has been the same guy, still don't know his name because he never has introduced himeself he just walks up to the table and takes our order. He takes our order, and we never see him again. He drops off our food, and he is never seen again. This Sunday was by far the worst. My food was not hot, it was warm, which means it was sitting under the lamp until he picked it up. My side, the shrimp and rice were lukewarm. I ate it because I was hungry, but he never came back to our table to check on our meals. We had to flag him down just to get water and wound up flagging down another server after 15 minutes to actually get water. I think because the tip is automatically included, some servers don't attend to their tables. He did have a few tables, but you are supposed to treat your section like one big table; if you touch one table, you touch all of them. The food is really good here, but the service is truly lacking; we could have done takeout with the lack of attention we received. Also, I was told that the gentlemen that sat us was a part owner. He sat at the bar the whole time we were there, talking to a young lady; he not once got up and checked on any tables or his staff. As an owner, I would think you would want to check on your guest. I knew he worked there, but I was surprised to learn that he is actually an owner.
