Writing this review from my super cute cotton-stuffed colorful patchwork chair and ottoman. So comfortable. The couple who runs this is very nice and have great taste, and we will definitely be back to check out more of their stuff once we buy a house. Let me start by saying everything they sell is beautiful. There is so much I want to buy in this store. If it were for product I would give it 5 stars. High quality, well curated selection and unique pieces that won't make your space look like it came straight out of a Crate and Barrel or Room and Board catalogue. Customer service, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. At least on Saturdays (seems to always be the same salesperson). The salesperson never asks if you need help/have questions, even when it is obvious you are seriously considering an item. He seems to be annoyed with any questions. At one point when asking for dimensions on a modular sofa he snipped "you can find it on the website". When checking someone out he answered his phone in the middle of the transaction and was complaining to someone about another employee. To the owners: We came in to make a pretty sizable furniture purchase but were so turned off by this treatment that we went somewhere else for the same product. I first encountered SOBU on Pinterest and went to their website to check it out. I fell in love with the reclaimed teak rocker. I love the fact that the materials are repurposed. The pieces are beautifully designed and environmentally kind. I bought this rocker sight unseen and without sitting on it. I was a leap of faith on my part. I am way past due for this review, me and my wife were shopping around for furnitures around the bay area and it was a very stressful experience, fortunately we found SOBU, they carry a vast variety of indoor and outdoor products that fitted our needs. They provide us with free consultation on interior design ideas, and we are talking directly to the designer, not a salesman. The furnitures are hand made by the designer with great details, they are exceptionally well made and they only produce at a limited number of quantities. The price is very reasonable, much better than other big name brands out there. Upon delivery, the designer even came out to deliver and completed the installation to ensure everything is done 100%! We are very happy with the purchase and we always get compliments when we have guests over. We definitely recommend everyone who have good tastes, values environmental friendly products and the quality of craftsmanship to visit this shop. You won't be disappointed! read more

Lovely furniture, but one star for customer service. I came in last week to purchase some furniture I saw online. When I walked in, the woman working there (identified herself as wife of the furniture maker) did not look up or greet me. After about 15 minutes of looking around, I went and asked her about the chair/ottoman set I came in to purchase. She said it was in the loft (accessible/visible in store). I expressed interest in purchasing it, and she said she would email me in a few days when she could get it down and I could come take a look. Over a week later, and...nada! Blowing off biz like that is well, unprofessional, to say the least, and doesn't bode well for my experience with SOBU. read more

A gem of a neighborhood store! The fiancée discovered this place and brought me here to look at the chairs. And they did not disappoint! I wish had more bar space/living room space so I could buy one of each! We were greeted at the door by Alessandro, the owner and designer (what a nice guy!). We're looking for 2 chairs for our living room and couldn't decide between the wood and metal rocker or its dining room chair equivalent. He suggested that we get one of each and decide which one was better suited for our place. I really appreciated his service and easy-going approach. His chairs are very unique, beautifully made and locally-designed. Sobu is why I buy in Oakland! Plus, Alessandro is so nice and gracious. They've got great stuff at this spot. I was walking by one day and saw a console through the window and was sold. To the utter disappointment of my girlfriend and me, the console didn't fit, but Alessandro both dropped off and came back and picked up with no questions asked. We're definitely going to go back because there are certainly other items that we know will work. Bought a gorgeous console table here and we are thrilled with it. They arranged white glove delivery to set it up for us as first-time customers. Is a stupendous piece that adds an artistic and mod touch to our dining room area. We love it! Was ordered and delivered promptly. Only problem was the shelves were imperfect, slightly wobbly (though perhaps no one other than my husband would have cared!). We had them adjusted for size and the Owner of SOBU (the creator/artist?) assured us he would reimburse us the cost of adjusting them. Was quickly credited to our account. To start with, I am very lazy on writing review, and this is my first proper Yelp review. My husband and I are so in love with Sobu. We feel so lucky to have this privilege to live so close by that we can walk in any weekend on the way to Markethall. We recently bought a Juno desk. It took 3 weeks until the desk is delivered to our house. And the owner + desk designer Alex showed up at our house on a Saturday with two other nice guys.
