I love this team. I began jiujitsu at Ufc gym. It was a great gym with awesome instructors but I wanted to try something different and test my skills. I started the 6 week unlimited program at soca. At the end of the 6 weeks, I think professor soca thought I was going back to Ufc gym. He didn't show any resentment or made me feel unwelcome if I made that choice. This team invited me back to train if I wanted. At the end, I told soca I wanted to stay! Soca believes in you. He doesn't push you to compete unless you want to. You don't need to ask him permission. He just wants you to try. He believes in hard work and fun. And respect! Enjoy the sport. It's going to be a long journey. It's a great facility. The price is comparable to any decent jiujitsu school. But if you want greatness, if you want to be a part of something greater than yourself, where people know your name, soca is the team. read more

RIP OFF do not waste your money on this place with their SO called $99 Special. I signed up for the 99$ special and when I was called by one of their staff they proceed to tell me there is a $170 registration fee !!! This is an outrage the fee is NOT listed on the special so basically its a get your money then extort more from you !! I do not care if the owner has won gold medals in some competition he is LAST place with his business practices and ethics , spend your money at a self defense school that CARES about their students !!!! read more

Soca is a place to learn from the best and is very family oriented. Master Soca is kind, humble and a great role model, he is also a legitimate multi time world champion. Professor Chris S. is great with my sons and really cares about their improvement and desire to be there. To start off this is Mark writing this review, not julien. Soca bjj is the best place for bjj. I have been to many places for bjj but soca knows exactly how to teach his students and transfer his amazing techniques into his students arsenal. This is a great place for anyone whether your a man, woman, kid, experienced or inexperienced. The people who go to socas are very friendly and welcoming. I felt right at home the first time I arrived. Whether you want to get in great shape or learn how to defend yourself, Soca BJJ is the place to be. Note: There is also a great Muay Thai program at socas. Very good place to improve on striking. There are both experienced and inexperienced students in striking so it caters to both people who are looking to just get in shape and people who are planning to actually fight and compete. read more

My son (just 5 years old) had a terrible experience during his trial class. The class was very unstructured and chaotic. Within the first 10 minutes of his very first experience he was learning to take down his opponent....without any foundation at all....he left the class hysterical crying after getting knocked over during a game of free for All running close to the end of the class. This is the third jiu jitsu gym that I have trained at and I can definitely say it is the best on Long Island. Soca and his staff do a great job of combining world class teaching with an environment that keeps everyone at the gym motivated to learn and to improve. The instruction from Master Soca, and all the instructors her is top notch. The students are all very friendly and the atmosphere is great. The entire academy feels like one big family and this is especially true at competitions where the entire team really come together to support each other. The classes are challenging but enjoyable, you will definitely learn alot and get a great workout at the same time. This place is like a cult and Soca is the leader. The guy who posted the one star review that Soca has shady business practices is right. It's all about $$$$ with this place. Constantly pushing his BS merchandise ( key rings, sweat shirts, tee shirts, etc) on his students/followers. The school charges between 150 and 175 registration fee even on the $99 special. If you get hurt or move they charge $ 250 to break the contract. This school charges you for EVERYTHING. You get promoted and they charge you for the belt. How's that for a promotion! You spend $185 a month to train here can only wear his overpriced gi and no go uniform than after several years you have to pay for your blue, purple, brown or black belt. I've seen the owner( Soca) turn against his most loyal students over BS. read more

I'm 43 and just started BJJ at Soca Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. At first I was a bit nervous at what to expect, but after my first session, my nervousness went away. Master Soca and the entire team of instructors and participants are great at teaching and rolling with. Egos are non existent and everyone treats everyone with respect. I have been training at Soca BJJ since January 2009, currently holding a purple belt. Professor Soca personally teaches classes, provides excellent instruction, and is a world champion in the art, actively competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments. There are many options for attending class, with classes being held seven days a week and most days having morning and evening classes. I noticed a negative review by a Laura R. recently posted. I personally have never met Laura and during the almost six years of training under Soca have not personally witnessed any of the allegations she made. In all my time I have never been pressured to purchase, nor have I been required to purchase any merchandise. I do not own any key rings or sweat shirts and in all the years I've been training, I own one T-shirt, which I purchased because I wanted to, and still train in the original white gi (which looks like Frankenstein from all the restitching) and blue gi that I started with. With respect to monthly pricing, it is comparable to other BJJ schools in the New York City/Long Island area. They have a free intro that I recommend anyone interested should check out and would recommend Soca BJJ to anyone interested in training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. read more
