HORRIBLE DIAGNOSTICS...WILL KEEP YOU PAYING FRIDGE STILL BROKEN AND DOWN $1500 OVER 3 VISITS FROM THESE GUYS Here's how this went down. I have a Samsung side by side refrigerator with a built in ice maker. It stopped freezing after about a year. I had 2 repair men look at it. Both said, "Your freon is low. $350.00". I found Sasha and Dmitry off of yelp and called them. Sasha was almost an hour late. Getting in touch with him and overall contacting this company at all is tedious to say the least. Sasha eventually came and told me that the problem with my fridge was that there was a leak in the lines and somewhere the freon was leaking out. So, for $250.00 he installed a device that would tell him where the leak was after he replaced the freon, and I was to call him when the freezer/fridge stopped working again and he could fix the leak. Keep in mind, I never found anything leaking from the fridge. ( And the second fix was at an unknown price TBD) He said it would take anywhere from 3 months to a year depending on the leak. I agreed to this. 4 or 5 months went by and lo and behold, the freezer and fridge stopped working. I called Sasha and he said he would come by and check it out. The diagnosis quickly changed about what was wrong with my fridge. Now, the evaporator needed to be completely replaced. That piece had to be ordered and that was going to be over $500.00. (What happened to the freon problem?) It took two weeks for Sasha to get the part and schedule a time to come to the house. He and Dmitry showed up and installed it. I paid. All was well. Less than a year later, the same problem occurred. I called Sasha who then sent Dmitry over to look at the fridge. Dmitry said, " I do not hear the fan so this is a super easy fix" which then became, "Oh man your compressor needs to be replaced. This is super expensive. I can discount you to $550.00" Dmitry assured me that this happens all the time with Japanese appliances and if I wanted, I could just go buy some crap refrigerator from Sears that had "a better motor" instead. He also said that the weather affects the freezer and fridge and that the heat was working against the fridge. I know plenty of people with outdoor fridges...what is he talking about? He had to order the piece which magically showed up the same day, and told me that he could install it the next day. I agreed and paid him in cash. I had to leave the house while he was working. When I returned there was a receipt that said "Compressor. 550" with no break down of labor or parts. Its been 3 months and my fridge and freezer are not cold anymore. The freezer was never working well after Dmitry's last fix. Needless to say, these guys did not diagnose the problem with my fridge at all and I am down close to $1500.00. The fact that this process became a snowball effect of separate problems does not bode well. Even if other problems arise, it could have been better to acknowledge those problems and say, "Hey, I made a mistake and found out that _________". I am not aware of there even being any other parts to the fridge that can be replaced. Except, of course for the fourth round of groceries that have soured! read more

Dmitry and SoCal Repair will be our go to folks for appliance repair from here on out. Quick, friendly and at a fair price. We have a modest Kenmore fridge, repaired it once and didn't get the best feeling about what we got for the money. So, a year later when it the fridge section no longer cooled, we guessed it was about done for. Looking into the price of new ones, we were stuck in the dilemma of bite the bullet or give a repair another try and risk regretting it. We agreed on what it would be worth to repair, $200 max., and decided to give SoCal a try based on the type of reviews they'd gotten. Long story short, Dmitry came out identified the problem (ice buildup behind the panel blocking the blower), explained what he was doing and fixed the next problem we didn't know we were building toward (a clogging heat vent on the floor). Fridge now works as good as ever, and we weren't pushed into new parts even when we asked if we should replace the stripping (A: It's fine, keep door shut or use a little vaseline on seal if you want to). He confirmed that it was a generally good and reliable mechanical fridge and showed us how to maintain those two things ourselves going forward because they could cause an expensive repair. He also advised on what to look for in the future if we do buy a new fridge to avoid things that are likely to break down. Dmitry was the one who answered the phone when I first called and we were able to talk specifics about the model of fridge and confirm a very modest price for the cost of the visit if it proved too expensive to repair. I had a leaking dishwasher in a rental house I own. I originally called E Appliance Repair (a supposedly 5 start outfit) to work on it. Their tech played around with the dishwasher a bit, asked who will pay for this, and said he will be back in two days to work on it. The dishwasher was now left leaking worse than before he touched it. Did he expect me to wait two days with a leaking dishwasher? Instead, I called SoCal Appliance repair. A tech came out, examined the problem, and came back again shortly afterwards to replace a leaking valve. The part did not quite fit, so he was going to come back a couple of days later with the proper part. Instead of leaving the dishwasher to leak all over the floor, he turned off the hot water until he came back. That was ok because the tenants were away at the time. The tech came back and replaced the valve. He also noticed another leak from the water pipe. As he also had plumbing experience, for a minimal fee he just went ahead and repaired that too. Throughout I was in contact with Sasha. He apprised me of the progress and issues that came up. This is how you give excellent customer service, fair pricing, and prompt attention. These are the best of the best. technicians. I had a expensive kitchen aid refrigerator that was warming my food. I went thru 4 other repair companies each one saying a different story and all charging me a lot of money for their service calls. I finally went on craigs list f to look for a used refrigerator and saw their ad. I figured at least I would give one last try to see if someone could repair this very expensive 3 yr old refrigerator. i called So Cal Appliance and Dimitry answered saying he could come out within 2 hrs. wow I couldnt believe someone would come out the same day! He showed up promptly. He tried very hard to fix the machine and I thought it was fixed but the next day it was back to heating up. Dimitry and Alex came the next day to try and find another solution but in the end this refrigerator was just a lemon and I had to buy another refrigerator. Dimitry came out 3 times to try different ways of adjusting and fixing the refrigerator. spending a few hours each time trying to fix the refrigerator and in the end he only charged me a service call.! After getting an $1800 dollar quote to fix my 590 Sub-Zero refrigerator, I decided to shop around. I found SoCal Appliance on yelp and after a detailed conversation with Dmitriy we came to a conclusion that the most likely culprit for the poor cooling and ice build up is a faulty evaporator. Dmitriy was able to guide me through some basic troubleshoots to double check and after confirming the problem said he'd research the part and give me a call back with the hour. He called me half an hour later with part number price and the date he can have it here. The price was less the half of original estimate and part would take 2-5 days. The part came early and Alex showed up at my house at the beginning of the the 3 hour window. My Sub-Zero was cooling the same week. Sasha gave me a refrigeration lesson and explained each and every step of the job process. He even threw in a free condenser maintenance and put me on their list of reminders for yearly maintenance service. This is a young company with old school service. Was attentive and communicative while we tried to schedule an appointment. They arrived on time. They resolved the issue quickly - 75 minutes. However, this was a labor-only job, no parts, and they never provided labor rates until after they were finished. For 75 minutes of work they charged me $180 - again, only after the job was done and without prior notice. These rates arent consistent with what we have paid to other appliance repair companies, and I didn't appreciate not being notified in advance of their "labor minimum". 11/10 Edit - They reached out, said that they made a mistake in not explaining their pricing up front and reimbursed me 15% of the overall fee. Appliance repair? Stop looking! This is the only number you need. I have a Viking oven, AKA, "THE TANK", that was beginning to show signs of needing new ignitors. I made a few calls around town and most of the repair services have no one standing by who understands the problem. Enter Dmitriy. So, I started looking for someone else. I actually know Dimitri from a long time ago when he was working in the real estate field. I ran into him at the boxing gym recently. He was very apologetic and sincere in asking how he can make things right with me. There was really nothing for him to do since I already got my microwave fixed. However, he insisted to give me back my money that I had paid for him to come out the first time. Again, sincerely apologetic and owned up to the fact that they had dropped the ball and there was no excuse.
