I received a terminal diagnosis from another mechanic for my 1992 Chevy stake bed truck. The other mechanic diagnosed the problem to be the carburetor throttle body, however the part was no longer available and the truck would run. I was about to send the truck to the scrap yard, however I thought it might be possible to rebuild the carburetor so I searched the internet and found Socal. I spoke to Shawn and he recommended that he run his own diagnostic test and I said go for it. Afterwards, he told me that everything points to the fuel pump, although the fuel pump had already been replaced by the former mechanic. Shawn said that he had run across defective fuel pumps. I took one more chance and told him to go for it. He replaced the fuel pump and I finally had a good running truck again. I think I like this guy and he will be seeing more of me. this guy was recommended to me by my girls (now ex) saying that he was a friend of the family and that he's a really great guy, dude is a complete rip off, i took this guy my truck and all the parts he need to replace my ac and get it working he had all the parts in my truck about a week but said my ac wasn't working still. so, after a diagnosis hey came back and said that my computer was the reason that my AC wasn't working and that he could send it off to get it fix. after 2 months of him telling me that he sent the company my computer to get it fixed and there not getting back to him and that there not responding to him, something inside of me told me to check his reviews and when i seen that ppl are having the same problems out of this dude i called him and told him that i wanted the number to the company and he told me that they're not going to talk to you and that i don't have to explain myself to you, i told him have my truck ready by Friday and i will pick it up, he then told me ill have them over night your computer and have you truck ready to pick up Tuesday and if you don't pick it up I'm charging you storage.. so, after the fact i spent 1433.35 with this asshole and my ac still wasn't working took my truck to ford and guess what it wasn't even my damn computer and now my E brake and ABS light are on in my truck and that wasn't the case before. i recommend just take your car to the dealer cause its guys like this dude that will do anything for a dollar instead of having a creditable business. read more

So I've known Shawn for many years and have brought him a lot of business. So recently I had taken my vehicle in to get the timing chain replaced spent 2000 or more on parts and labor. Its been about 90 days since the work was done and now my timing chain cover is spewing oil lost all my oil. I took it back to him after getting a diagnosis he said well its been 90 days so there is no warranty told me he doesn't know if its the cover and basically I would have to pay for repairs. That being said everything I've heard bad about him is finally true. This guy will rip you off charges way to much and doesn't do a good job probably because he has to many of his own projects going to truly take care of his customers. I've been going to mechanics for over 25 years, and this place gouged me more than any mechanic in my life. I went there with electrical issues with the headlights. He charged me 250 dollars to look at the car. Then he charged me an additional 250 for putting the car back together. Who chargers people money to put a car back together? Thats 500 dollars, and he didn't even fix anything. Then he wasn't sure what was wrong, but he wanted to charge me 1800 dollars to replace the car's computer, and he wasn't sure if this was the problem. I took the car to the dealer and paid 1500 dollars less than this guy wanted to charge me. This is the first time in my life that the dealer gave me a way better deal. Avoid this place. Needed catalyst it was mis-firing. Found Shawn's shop. From the moment I started talking with him I new he was honest, he has a passion for cars and helping people out. By far the best experience I have had in dealing with a repair shop. Sean really knows his trade. I went to tire express and they told me I needed to change my tension pulley because that was causing the noise and that something was wrong with my transmission. Nothing of the fort Sean recognized right away that it was the alternator. That's all that was wrong. I came back to him a few days later to have him change my transmission fluid and spark plugs as they were due. Everything running like a champ. His pricing is great and timing was awesome! Shop advertises on Craigslist as a shop doing Mechinic business on Sunday's, when in REALITY they are only (towing)securing work for the following week and not doing any Mechinic work on Sunday's. I called the ad at 7:43 am Sunday morning. I describe my situation to Sean the owners told him I was calling around and what was his cost to do repairs today. After several calls I called Sean back. Secured the job and tow. Sean towed my car at 11am on Sunday morning to his shop put it on a lift and did not work on vehicle till MONDAY MORNING.....per his text to me 6 hrs wasted. Here's my story: It's the Sunday morning after Thanksgiving and I find a Craigslist Ad for Mechinic that works on Sunday's. I think perfect as my clutch had gone out the night before, called CL ads spoke to Sean the Owner, of SoCal Auto Repair Center. He told me the shop was closed but he was the owner and could get my truck in on Sunday as he understood my situation with my son, who was suppose to leave Sunday, but he could wait if truck was going to be ready by Monday Night at the latest.I explained this to Sean when he came to tow my Vehicle ....Instead he charges me for a tow! Which his web site clearly states is incl in ANY Major Repairs. ( Sean stated not incl if he is doing it off CL. That's not real HONEST Business practice) Again owner does not tell me that his business offers Free towing and offer is on his web sites... I'll own it but again this is the owner not an employee, back to my situation, Sean assured me that even worst case Scenario the vehicle would be ready 5:30 p.m. As he did on the phone when I explain to him what I was needing on Sunday, I delayed buying a ticket to put my son on a plane that day on Sean the experts advise. Don't get me wrong I understand things can happen in the repairs of a vehicle. I was an Auto Damage Adjuster for over 15 years, so I know the order of repairs when you do it honestly, and you are looking out for the CUSTOMER....Sean the owner claims he cares for the customer alot too...like when he was to busy trying to up sale me on fluid and air cleaner rather than starting the clutch service) ..But if Sean had started work on the Vehicle Sunday like his CL ads stated he was a Mechinic that works on Sunday's I would not be putting the shop owner on blast for being a DISHONEST El Cajon Businessman. I'm not bad mouthing the work but any repair shop could do the clutch job ask around. Sean misrepresented his CL AD as a Mechinic that works on Sunday's DISHONEST. Sean claims his techs don't work on Sunday's so why are you being dishonest and misrepresenting your business to the public.. Liar read more

Be CAREFUL! I took my vehicle here for a diagnosis. We agreed on a price, which I agreed to, just for diagnosis and then we would proceed accordingly. I get a call back from the owner and he tells me the laundry list of problems that the vehicle has. I did not agree as some of the parts had already been recently replaced or rebuilt. Not an issue that we did not see eye-to-eye, so I told him I would be down to get the vehicle. He then told me the vehicle no longer would start and that he blew up my muffler. WHAT? The car would start no problem before, and my muffler was 100% intact and fine when I took it there. He made no effort to apologize for killing my battery or ruining my muffler. He then tried to charge me full price for his "diagnostic" work. What a joke this place is, and I would keep my distance from this place. The owner takes no responsibility for his actions and did not even want to help fix the problems he created. I just took my vehicle and got out of there ASAP. read more
