David was nothing but the best. I had to replace my water pump, change the belt and thermostat and refill my coolant. Unfortunately it is a common issue with Volkswagen GTIs that the water pump breaks because of how it is made. Not only that it usually costs an arm and a leg just to replace them. So I called different shops to get quotes and they offered me way higher than what David quoted me. He did everything for such a great price I highly recommend anyone who has issues with their cars to go to him. He also does smog checks, oil change or anything you can think of. Bright Tech Auto is THE BEST auto repair I have ever been to. I've taken both my car & my husband's truck to David. He always charges me much less than I expect, he explains everything that needs to be done, and he never makes me feel like an idiot for not being an engine expert. I would trust David to diagnose & take care of any repairs that my car or truck needed. David is incredibly fast with a Smog check & very quick to order any parts & get the job done fast. So far he's replaced the catalytic converters on our Toyota Matrix (car) & our Toyota Tundra (truck). He has repaired the brakes on both vehicles & repaired the AC on the Matrix. There's one other engine repair I can't even remember now but when the check engine light came on & crazy noises came out of the engine I just stopped the car, called David, & had the tow truck deliver my car to Bright Tech Auto!! We live in Clairemont but I still drive all the way back to Santee for David's expertise & his incredible prices! My partner turned me onto this place. Said it was listed as one of the recommended GO TO places for smog checks according to the DMV. Also said it was a small "dive" kind of auto repair shop, but that the guy got some good reviews, his prices reasonable and that he seemed to be honest and knew what he was doing... I had no idea at the time that he only had 3 reviews! In need of hoses for my air conditioner, a leak check and new fluids I opted to take my SUV here. I also needed a gasket replaced having found an oil leak in my car. I've already priced both these issues out at 2 other reputable places... 1 more couldn't hurt.. Besides if this guy tries to sell me something more, I'll know he wasn't honest with his estimate and yelp would hear of it. I was hoping he'd come in lower... And he did. After a good 20 minutes looking at my car.. He came back with an estimate for my air conditioning issue... Said exactly the same as the other shops I tend to go to. He even looked at my oil leak and made the same recommendation... nothing more. This was promising. 5 minutes later, "David" calls out to an auto parts place, prices out my air conditioner issue and then my oil leak gasket. Each he'd written on a sheet of paper for me. Wow... his price was lower than the other places... considerably. I opted for him to do my air conditioning first.... I wanted to see what kind of work he did. 8am -12noon on a Saturday.. done. I drove home with that familiar cold blast from my air conditioner (a blast I hadn't felt for over a year).... I hesitated to hire him to do my transmission gasket... Its a big job... He'd have to take apart part of the engine just to get to the gasket... And then put it all back together again. After reading the few reviews on him on Yelp.. I hesitated since only 2 of them were positive... I was ready to blast him for a bad job... But his reasonable prices were so good for my wallet at the moment. What's the worse that could happen? He could fuck it up and I'd have him redo it or I'd bring it to my usual.... which is miles away now that we moved. 8am - almost 4pm.. the following Saturday and its done. 2 weeks later and still no oil leak. Or any sign of mishap... And my car is running great! All the electrical gauges not screaming any kind of foul. David deserves this positive review.... He saved me about $200 and he did the job well. I doubted him thinking I'd find something wrong.. but nothing. Thanks Bright Tech... (if you weren't such a messy auto repair shop, I might have given you a 5 stars). Hell, its a greasy dive... Rustic old school shop, but thinking that's why prices and labor are reasonable. Owner, David, is humble and personable. Great price on STAR certified smog check. Discloses pass and/or fail pricing up front. Opted to wait across the street in the sunshine, but didn't mind standing while waiting about 20 minutes. The front office opens to the work bays, and didn't want to breathe the car exhaust. All good, and not a big deal to stand for me. Result was a PASS! Great numbers on my 30yr old car. David reminded me his shop can han handle other standard car servicing. Will be back for an oil change during the week. He needs to order the oil filter. My first experience was a coupon in the Penny Saver and a repair under an extended warranty. David pointed out a couple minor things that needed done while he was 'under the hood'. *This review is for a smog check only* Okay, so everyone driving by has seen the smog check place across the street near sonic that has the big sign. Well they quoted me almost twice as much for a smog check as David charged. I looked around on the Internet and found this place (it's easier to find online than in person). After driving past it twice I saw the garage hidden in with a body shop. David was knees deep in a car, but he turned around and said hi and asked if he could help me. Literally 20 minutes and $35 later the bi-yearly hassle known as a California smog check was done. I was so impressed with his service and prices that it totally overcame the dirty looks of his shop. And he is a very nice guy on top of it all. I know where I will take all of my family's vehicles for smog checks from now on... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

I called and needed to leave a message to David the owner he called me back within 5 mins. So glad he did his charge was below the other prices, he was very fast it took him maybe less then 15 mins. to complete the test. Though the service was fast, friendly and informative, I have recently realized how ridiculously overpriced it was. I paid exactly $60 dollars for the job, way more than most. Even though I really needed an oil change immediately, I feel like the guy in charge took advantage of my emergency. My entire family and extended family use David, he is fair and knowledgeable. He has a thick accent but is still able to communicate effectively. Keep in mind this is a Mom and Pops business...... with no Mom helping him, so David has to do it ALL. He might not always answer his phone probably because he is busy under the hood of a car, just leave a message (or it might take a few) but, he will call you back and get you in and get your car fixed without hassle with quality parts at a great price. Bright Tech Auto Service Santee , a bad service for my car, The mechanic , told me for $495 he will fix my car for drips from coolant and my air conditioning but the mechanic was not able to fix my car air conditioning and he told me to pay the whole $495, He said that he bought the items for the coolant drips and the air conditioning but he cannot present the receipt of the items he bought. I wish I could say we still felt the same way. But after sinking $3500 into two cars this past year and both cars having more problems than they started with, I'd be lying if I said we did. Our rack & pinion broke and after having it supposedly fixed here our steering hasn't been the same. Now we have additional problems which didn't previously exist and he refused to fix what he broke on our steering column saying it was already that way, which it wasn't. The other car we had the entire AC system redone (amongst other repairs), which cost a small fortune, because we had to have that car's AC working for my disabled father in law. We wound up having to take it back in 3 times to get the AC to work even slightly. And it still didn't work right, not like an AC system that had been just redone should. And then all these other electrical problems began popping up, the car began stalling out all the time and having these intermittent problems with starting. It was clear that if we ran the AC the car had these problems. We took it back in 4 more times and got no real resolution to any of the problems. We finally got sick of the excuses and took it to another mechanic only to find out that the problems all stemmed from mistakes made when we had 2 different repairs on this car, which we had done at Bright Tech. This was particularly frustrating since we talked my father in law in to taking his car there because we trusted David. The fact that he refused to fix any of the issues that he knew damn well were not problems before he touched the cars (yes, it problems happened on BOTH cars) and only wanted more money was irritating, yes, but mostly truly disappointing. My experience at Bright wasn't so good, took my truck there for smog check , rolled in with a normally running vehicle, no check engine light/codes etc:.. 5 mins later I've got a check engine light plus 5 codes being thrown, he turned off truck while still connected to the states computer, then tries to tell me that it was already on.. NO WAY was it on until he did that, so I fail smog, get the customary "I'm sorry"...& no free re test ?? Paid $31.00 for his mistake , needless to say won't be going back & can't recommend him read more

I agree David the owner is a nice enough guy. However, after taking a classic 91 caddy in from April 2016 to November 2016 for a continuous issue with a high voltage battery reading (where the car literally had shut down on me), he was not able to determine the problem and I ended up putting in 3 alternators and finally having him inform me the only solution was to bypass the computer and use an external regulator. Three alternators $729.00, scan for problem initially $100 (did a manual scan from the DIC) and external regulator $65 so almost $1,000 on this issue alone. I spent other money approximately $1,300 here on distributor, MAP sensor, Fuel regulator (not his fault--leak found), ignition switch etc. Also after the 3rd alternator when I got a 16.2 reading and another shut down took the car to Bob Bowan's and paid $121 for opinion of what the cause of high voltage could be, got a misdiagnosis (in their written estimate) to replace the PCM and bought that part too, replaced it and had to replace the BCM computer and pay 190 for the part and 175 for installation. It's just been a car nightmare. As I started this, David is a nice guy but once I got in so deep money wise I couldn't start over with someone new and the overall result is a car that sounds like it's ready to take off (in the interim somehow, a humming noise was obvious as I picked the car up, David said it's probably a wheel bearing and to just drive it), the battery light on due to bypassing computer and a lot money spent to get nowhere. read more

David is a good and honest repair man. He's quick and doesn't charge a lot for his repairs. Brought my car in to have the air conditioning fixed. A previous auto shop said I needed to replace the hose because it was leaking. David looked and said he wasn't sure of a leak and wanted to check for leaks by recharging and adding dye to it. He said if it leaks you pay for part and I won't charge you for refill on Freon. After he fixed it he also discovered where my oil leaks were coming from. I was expecting that the charge to fix this would be extreme. But I was shocked to say that to replace my oil pan and the seal to the engine came to under $300 dollars. Took my boyfriends car to get his brakes replaced and he did a fantastic job as well as give us a great price since it was a BMW. Highly recommend David. For a one man show he does excellent work.
