Can't say enough good things about SoCal Excavation. I was in a bind with a landscaper trying to gouge me on excavation of a terraced yard. Pretty big job, dropping everything down 36" and leveling so the yard was consolidated and flat. I reached out to many different outfits and got a call from Larry. He was able to quote me over the phone, fully explained all the different variables and was up front on what everything cost. Out of all my estimates, his was the most transparent and reasonable. Larry was able to move his schedule around and fit me in the next week. He and Brock showed up on time every day and immediately started grinding away with an excavator and tracked bobcat as well as large dump truck. They worked in unison and while one person drove dump runs the other would continue moving dirt to the street for the next load. I think in total they took out over 100 tons of dirt in 4 days. Larry gave me regular updates and would call or text me at certain points in the project to ask for my input as to how I wanted things to look. He has valuable input from his experience and was able to help me mitigate a lot of bad ideas and planning on the part of my now former landscaper. Brock was equally helpful and skilled at all aspects and I was able to ask him questions if Larry was on a dump run. This outfit is skilled and adept at their craft and most importantly, honest and professional. I have used Larry three times now and he is top shelf! He is not only amazing at what he does, he's also got the best energy and he is so easy to work with. The first time he came to discuss our job Larry gave us recommendations of what to do first because he, "didn't want to take our money twice." Wow, not many people do that! We got prepared and then he returned and removed a ton of old concrete, an old patio cover and graded it all smooth. Then I had him come back and together with my plumber he dug out my old cast iron (leaking) sewer line and covered it back up, all while I was beach camping at San Elijo! Now we are completing an addition which requires a stem wall in addition to trying to get the elevations right for our lot. We are very open to ideas on how to make the backyard work and on Larry's recommendation we have created three areas of differing elevations; the raised garden is the highest, then the area for the shed behind the garage and a step down to the large patio entertaining area. Larry helped me create a plan for low walls to define the garden area and around the patio with areas for planting. Because my lot had a ton of dirt in the back that sloped toward the front, Larry matched the middle height to our new backdoor so there will be no need for steps as was included in the original design plan. He will return, while I am in Yosemite, and work with my plumber again to trench for water, gas and drains. I am so happy that after this our backyard will be finished and no need to refigure it out. Larry spent time today showing me how to lay things out and gave me a can of marking paint so I can explore and map out where to put the bbq area, the fire pit and seating area. I can't say enough about how helpful he is and what a truly great guy he is. I will be bummed that after this I won't need him anymore but I highly recommend him to anybody who needs excavation work done. read more
