Beware! Extremely disappointed with the work done here for a crown…read more Initially when I had the temporarily crown put on, the bite was off and Dr. Desai shaved a significant portion off which caused my tooth to become extremely sensitive to a point where I cannot eat from one side of my mouth. Once the actual crown came, I should've known something was off when he spent a good amount of time shaving and adjusting the crown and opposing teeth. After the crown was put on, now both my crown and opposing teeth is extremely sensitive to temperature and I am experiencing pain from chewing. When I brought my concerns to Dr. Desai he stated everything looks fine and the pain should go away over time. I decided to go to another Dentist for a second opinion and his diagnosis was that the crown was oversized and it needs a replacement. He performed a series of bite test and he showed me which spots were higher than the others. Also you can visibly see that the crown was entirely flat on top due to all the shaving he performed on an oversized crown. Dr. Desai should have known that the measurements were wrong when the temporary cap did not fit. But instead of remeasuring the tooth and reordering the right sized crown, he decided that flatting the entire top side of the crown will do the trick. Initially his front desk staff was extremely responsive but after asking for a copy of the receipt and pictures of the x-rays, their response was are "extremely busy" and will try to email me the next morning. Next morning came, still no email.

This is my 2nd time getting braces (lost my retainers in high school and teeth shifted) and my son's 1st and last time . From the very first visit, Edina made us feel welcomed and taken care of. She answered all of my questions and prepared a detailed treatment plan including estimated monthly payments.  Abari Orthodontics staff are always friendly, professional, and incredibly organized. Checking in for appointments and scheduling future appointments has been completely stress-free. My son and I mostly followed up with Dr. B., who is very knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely someone who cares about his patients. He takes the time to explain the treatment process clearly and always makes his patients feel comfortable and confident during appointments. It's rare to find someone so patient, attentive, and dedicated to excellent customer service. Thank you all for making every visit such a positive experience!

Before we could even be seen by the oral surgeon, I was told that she needed an orthodontic consultation first. As expected, because my daughter is only 8 years old and still has many primary teeth, we were told she was not a candidate for orthodontic treatment at this time. We then had to schedule yet another appointment to finally see the oral surgeon--the very reason we were referred to the office in the first place. During the oral surgery consultation, the doctor agreed that the tooth needed to be extracted but recommended a bone graft that was not covered by insurance. When I asked whether the extraction could be performed without the bone graft, I was told by the treatment coordinator that the doctor would not perform the extraction unless the bone graft was also completed. As a parent, I wanted to understand the specific clinical reason for that decision. I requested written documentation explaining why the bone graft was necessary in my daughter's case and why treatment would be denied without it. Instead, I was provided with paperwork recommending a second opinion, which did not answer the questions I had asked. My concern is not that a bone graft was recommended. My concern is that I was unable to obtain a clear explanation of the clinical findings supporting the recommendation or the reason extraction alone was not considered an option. When parents are being asked to approve a procedure that is not covered by insurance and comes with a significant out-of-pocket cost, they deserve a clear and detailed explanation. Having worked in the dental field myself, I understand how insurance reimbursement and contracted fee schedules work. In some cases, additional procedures that are not covered by insurance can create significant out-of-pocket expenses for families, particularly when patients have state-provided insurance or plans that reimburse at contracted rates (HMO). While I cannot speak to the intentions of this office, the situation raised concerns for me because the recommended treatment involved an additional non-covered expense, yet I was unable to obtain a clear explanation of why it was required before the extraction could be performed. Parents should be aware of this and feel comfortable asking detailed questions whenever additional out-of-pocket procedures are recommended. I encourage other parents to ask questions, request copies of radiographs, seek second opinions when appropriate, and make sure they fully understand the rationale behind any recommended treatment before proceeding.

We worked with Kylene and Dr. Bottala for his initial consult and once again we had a positive experience. Unfortunately due to his wheelchair not fitting in the X-ray machine, we were unable to get that done, but we were still able to move forward with getting his Invisalign. Yvonne was the person who helped him with getting his Invisalign set up in his teeth and went over all the do's and don'ts of caring for them. She also told him about the patient rewards hub app where he can get points for various things and redeeming his points for gift cards. Great incentive to get the patients motivated to take better care of their teeth! I don't think they had this program when my first son was here a few years ago, but when he was a patient, they didn't offer any incentives, so this is a nice new perk! I really like this office for ortho procedures. I did also get a consult from my regular dental office for his braces, but I just really liked the facilities available here and the fact that they had more appointments that could work with our schedule, so we came back. Plus, in addition to prizes, they have all these fun things for kids like video games while they wait. It's a no brainer, if you need orthodontic service, just come here.

Here are some key aspects that really caught my eye- organization, final alignment result and staff Organization: The office is clean, tidy, and organized. The staff is great with booking appointments and keeping to their schedules without rushing their patients. They must've found a sweet spot for amount of staff because most of my visits I was seen as soon as I signed in. The longest I waited was 10 minutes. I think that's great considering how many patients they see and factoring in cancelations or procedures that require a little more time to be thorough. I did appreciate the amount of text reminders for my appointments. It was enough without being bombarding. Adjustments/alignments/final result: My adjustments were painless, quick and thorough. There were times where my teeth were sensitive during some procedures, but very doable. It helped to know that Dr. Y and her assistants gave full attention to body reactions or signals to stop what they are doing. I am pleased with the final result of my teeth alignment and will now be wearing my retainer as directed. Staff- Professional, warm, and knowledgable. Dolores and Sylvia were the two main ladies that would help book my appointments and chatted with me which started my dental visits of on a happy note. When I sat in my seat I was greeted by either Angie, Alan, or Allie who assisted the doctor. Aside from having fun conversations with them, they are great at what they do and are ready to adjust anything that doesn't feel right. Then there is my orthodontist Dr. Y. Her eye for detail, the chemistry she has with her staff, and warm personality made me feel at ease with her directing my second round with braces. Overall- I highly recommend the Orthodontics of West Covina. They are professional, organized, and work hard to get the results for their patients.

I was a patient at this practice for several years before relocating out of California in 2021…read more After recently moving back, I returned because I had previously had positive experiences here, particularly with Dr. Zak, who was always professional. Unfortunately, my recent experience was very different and led me to find another dentist. I returned with a specific concern about an area on my gum that I wanted evaluated. I called ahead, explained why I was coming in, and arrived prepared for treatment. Once brought back, the visit immediately moved into their standard diagnostic process, including regular X-rays, 3D imaging and photographs, before I had really discussed the concern that brought me in. I asked why the X-rays were being done. This was not a refusal. I was simply asking what we were doing and why. The question seemed to catch the staff member off guard. When the doctor (Dr Abu) came over, much of his explanation centered on the fact that I had not been to their office since 2021. This convo was also in an open space. I completely understand that. I completed the entire diagnostic process, including the X-rays, 3D imaging and photographs. I was never questioning the clinical need. My concern was the approach. There is a difference between explaining how updated imaging will help evaluate a patient's oral health and repeatedly emphasizing how long it has been since that patient was last there. I had relocated out of state and only recently returned to California. More importantly, providers do not always know why someone has experienced a gap in care. People relocate, lose insurance, experience financial hardship, or go through circumstances a provider knows nothing about. Repeatedly focusing on that gap can come across as judgment/presumption rather than clinical explanation. I tried to explain this distinction directly to the doctor at the end. I made clear that I understood why the workup was necessary and was not questioning his clinical competency. I was giving feedback about the communication and patient experience. Even then, he continued returning to the fact that I had not been there since 2021 defensively. That point was not being heard. By the end, I was presented with more than $600 in recommended services after insurance. I had the money and had gone there prepared to begin treatment that day. I declined because I was no longer comfortable continuing care with that doctor. This was not about being unwilling or unable to pay. It was about the experience. I later sent the practice written feedback and received no response. I have since established care with another dentist. My takeaway is that this practice operates through a highly standardized process. That may work well for patients who prefer a polished, modern, corporate-style dental office. The office is "friendly" in a performative sense, but my experience did not feel warm or individualized. If you have one immediate concern and want it evaluated first, with a conversation about what is necessary before moving into a larger workup or treatment plan, I would ask very specific questions when scheduling. Based on my experience, their standard comprehensive process appears to take priority over tailoring the initial visit around the concern that brought the patient in. There is nothing inherently wrong with a standardized process. The issue is when it leaves little room for curiosity about the person moving through it. Patients can understand that their teeth need work and why imaging is necessary while still deserving clear explanations, sensitivity, privacy and participation in their care without feeling judged. I returned because I had previously trusted this practice. I arrived prepared to spend more than $600 on treatment and ultimately chose to spend that money elsewhere. For me, that decision came down to the patient experience, not the treatment recommendation. I also did not appreciate discussing my concern with Dr Abu in an open X-ray area near the hallway and front desk. It felt unnecessarily impersonal too.
