I feel compelled to share our latest alarming experience with Anchorstrong. An employee, Joe Essy,…read morethreatened us via email, stating that he might file false reports against us unless we removed our honest Yelp reviews. He also suggested that he might leave negative reviews for a kind handyman we've worked with and file false reports against him, despite never having used his services. We also asked Joe to provide the permit he claimed to obtain for our project, as required by our contract. Several weeks have passed with no response, leading us to believe he never secured it. Rosie (Office Manager) and Steve (owner) were copied on our email, and we forwarded Joe's threatening email to them as well, but they have not responded. I also have serious concerns that Joe may have created multiple accounts to post fake reviews, including negative ones for others that reflect the threats he made in his email to us, as well as positive ones for his own business and employer. Yelp has removed several reviews based on these issues, and I have documented evidence to support my claims. Believe it or not, Joe has done more shady things, which we've documented. To keep this more concise, I'm highlighting just these examples but there are many more. In my opinion, Joe's behavior is not only beyond unprofessional but also seems unhinged to me. Who engages in such extreme, dishonest tactics against their customers simply because they left honest feedback? Providing feedback is our right as customers and a key purpose of Yelp. Multiple individuals who interacted with Joe raised serious concerns about his questionable honesty, erratic temperament, and disrespectful behavior. The emails I shared from Costco are just a few examples of this (see photos I posted in this review). Instead of simply addressing valid feedback, Joe resorts to intimidation tactics. His actions made me feel unsafe enough to install a security camera, especially since Joe said he lost the key to our front door. It's deeply disturbing that Joe has threatened to unfairly target us and this handyman--who has nothing to do with this situation and doesn't even know Joe--in what seems to be retaliation for our honest reviews. This handyman is genuinely kind, hardworking, and excellent at his job. He does not deserve this treatment at all. Since Joe mentioned he provides handyman services himself, Joe's threats also raise serious concerns about a conflict of interest. Based on our experience, it seems Joe is willing to go to very extreme lengths, including unethical tactics, to silence honest reviews, suggesting serious issues. His intimidating behavior has been completely unjustified and, in my opinion, it's shameful. Anchorstrong has failed to meet their contractual obligations, leaving us with substantial damages and financial losses, and refusing to refund us or work with us toward a fair resolution. After we paid them over $34K, we've faced intimidation, which we have proof of, instead of accountability. As paying customers, it's disheartening to experience such unethical treatment. If you work with them, be prepared for the same treatment. Also, ensure all permits are actually secured. I didn't want to write this update because this company isn't worth anyone's time, but their intimidation has led me to warn others and I hope it helps someone make a more informed decision. We've never encountered such appalling treatment from a vendor before. To Anchorstrong: We have every right to post honest reviews. Stop trying to intimidate us. While we've accepted that you won't provide the fair refund we are owed after taking our money, we simply want to be left alone--and for others to be left alone as well. The photos of Joe's shoddy work and the damages he caused speak for themselves. We face significant expenses to fix these issues, in addition to the $34K+ we already paid you and the other losses we incurred due to your failure to meet your contractual obligations. You have not reimbursed us, and we are left to cover these costs ourselves. Why threaten us? Haven't you done enough to us? We don't want to deal with you any further. Please leave us alone.

The California CRMP agency was also very helpful, answering questions and providing guidance through the project. Julian Construction's team replaced two foundation walls that formed a corner. My problem was the…read moreold corner had cracked from top to bottom in two places, one on each of the adjacent walls, and the detached corner was beginning to sink, causing the house to slide to one side. The lack of a long tube from the gutter downspout leading away from the house was a likely culprit. How did I know? The doors around that corner were not closing. I like treating issues as they arise and I knew this problem could stand no delay. I asked for estimates from a handful of foundation companies that other homeowner friends had recommended. Julian's was the only one that had a well-documented inspection, a thorough scope of work, a fair price, and reasonable contract terms. Mayo was on top of it. She scheduled me within a week after I submitted the signed contract and deposit. The crew showed up at 7AM and the foreman spent an hour talking with me while he guided his team into action.They had to jack up the house. The foreman and I stood in the room being elevated and I could hear the creaking wood and straining nails like an old man stretching his joints to his limit (my house is 115 years old). It was scary but I felt like I was in good hands. The foreman was observing every reaction of the house and giving immediate instructions to his team. He also gave me an education on foundations and how houses slide, pointing out the the accelerating slant of the vertical wood pieces in my cripple wall. I do some much home repair myself so I ate up this education! The team worked fast. I was onsite the first and last day. On the first, they asked me a lot of questions about how much leveling I wanted (I opted to keep a slight slant or else my old doors would be jammed) and I could show them all the resources (power, water, fusebox) to help them do their job. They were really nice and had a good sense of humor even though the work was heavy and hard and the summer temps were nearing 100. Mayo had asked me to clear the space (remove plants, remove gutters, remove siding if I wanted to reuse them, protect the AC unit, so I did before they came. On the last day, I was dazzled by the new foundation walls. The floor in the house even felt better to walk on, much more solid. Julian's team offered to put the gutter and the siding back for me, making a vent hole to match the old one. This saved me so much time. Their work passed inspections. The entire process was very smooth. The crew was orderly and handled all items with care. We spoke in English and in Spanish and it was fine. I'm a native Californian so knowing some Spanish comes with the culture here. Up until this experience, I was nervous about foundation replacement but working with Julian Construction made me feel it is a manageable process, even a pleasant one. When I need further work on my foundation, I know who to call and I won't be stressed out about it anymore!

Speaking to these gentlemen is like speaking to professors who'll tell you clearly if you don't need work; and what you may need 15 years from now. We first had a mold abatement company come and they revealed that the fungus had grown into the framing and had completely rotted out large areas on the side of our house. They told us that the job was too big and recommended Foundation Repair LA. When Matt from Foundation Repair LA came over to give us an estimate, my wife and I were immediately impressed by his thorough knowledge of this particular fungus and his ability to patiently explain the problem to us. The proposal he created was quite extensive and costly, but he explained that in order to prevent this fungus from coming back, they needed to completely remove it at the source and all of the contaminated soil. We got a couple of quotes that were less costly and chose another contractor to do the abatement, but we learned our lesson the hard way when after a month or so the fungus started growing back in the soil and the house framing. That's when we called Matt back and told him that we were hoping he would give it a chance. He immediately came over and looked at the work that had been done, giving us a less expensive quote to complete the job properly. Matt was very thorough and his team was professional. They kept in constant communication to update us on what they were finding and their progress. It's now been over six months since they completed the work and the fungus is gone. This was a scary experience and I am so grateful to Foundation Repair LA for saving our house!

I had another vendor visit the property, and he only spent 3 minutes poking his head around - he did not even enter the crawl space! Therefore, it was an easy choice to go with Sunshine. I felt comfortable enough with Adam to ask him to visit my parents' home for a possible retrofit. Unfortunately, this structure does not have a crawl space / cripple walls and thus is not able to be retrofitted. They completed the job in just two days and repaired two addional piers, and everything went smoothly. I do have a slight squeeze in one area of the floor in my raised home, and I'm currently waiting for them to come back and take a look at it. I know pier repair is not much complicated but their crew was professional and their price was reasonable. I would highly recommend these folks.

But now I'm very happy that Sam decided to take on the job and develop the structural calculations and drawings for removing a load bearing and shear wall at my Condo. The Project started in September 2025 with initial submittal of permit application package to the City. It went into construction about four (4) weeks ago and was successfully completed today (5/8). During the process, we developed trust for each other. I contacted Sam numerous times for questions, problems and consultations and he was always responsive. He and my architect friend worked together to develop the initial design but had to modify it to overcome a major obstacle that came up during the construction. He came over for construction observations and gave instructions to the contractor how to strap the beams together for maintaining structural integrity of loading and shearing. His fees were much lower than another builder whom I also got a bid from, and his approach to things was much simpler and yet conservative to that from the other firm. I told Sam, whether it is good or bad, I don't usually do reviews for others. But for him, I will do one. I'm thankful to have a great team of Sam (the engineer), my architect friend, and excellent construction crew to help me complete this project.

Look and shop no further for your brace and bolt contractor. Don't experience what I had but once you see Avalin Design Construction Company at the EBB directory that's it. Not that too confident I chose Avalin for it carries workers compensation and liability insurance. Fred Cohen, the owner did the preliminary inspection of how is under the house, gave me the proposal-contract with a price that I think is reasonable. He and his employee, Guita are so nice to talk with, very helpful and knowledgeable doing every every steps of the way with the process from securing the permit to uploading the photos and other documents to the approval of the job by the department of building and safety which simply means that the brace and bolt was done correctly by Arturo and Mickey. In short all of them are very professional in their own way. I give them two thumbs up and five stars out of five. I'm now very confident knowing that I didn't made a mistake in choosing Avalin Design Construction Company that I'm thinking of hiring it again to our other property. read more

After we paid them over $34K, we've faced intimidation, which we have proof of, instead of accountability. As paying customers, it's disheartening to experience such unethical treatment. If you work with them, be prepared for the same treatment. Also, ensure all permits are actually secured. I didn't want to write this update because this company isn't worth anyone's time, but their intimidation has led me to warn others and I hope it helps someone make a more informed decision. While we've accepted that you won't provide the fair refund we are owed after taking our money, we simply want to be left alone--and for others to be left alone as well. The photos of Joe's shoddy work and the damages he caused speak for themselves. We face significant expenses to fix these issues, in addition to the $34K+ we already paid you and the other losses we incurred due to your failure to meet your contractual obligations. My problem was the…read moreold corner had cracked from top to bottom in two places, one on each of the adjacent walls, and the detached corner was beginning to sink, causing the house to slide to one side. The lack of a long tube from the gutter downspout leading away from the house was a likely culprit. How did I know? The doors around that corner were not closing. I like treating issues as they arise and I knew this problem could stand no delay. I asked for estimates from a handful of foundation companies that other homeowner friends had recommended. Julian's was the only one that had a well-documented inspection, a thorough scope of work, a fair price, and reasonable contract terms. Mayo was on top of it. She scheduled me within a week after I submitted the signed contract and deposit. The crew showed up at 7AM and the foreman spent an hour talking with me while he guided his team into action.They had to jack up the house. The foreman and I stood in the room being elevated and I could hear the creaking wood and straining nails like an old man stretching his joints to his limit (my house is 115 years old). It was scary but I felt like I was in good hands. The foreman was observing every reaction of the house and giving immediate instructions to his team. He also gave me an education on foundations and how houses slide, pointing out the the accelerating slant of the vertical wood pieces in my cripple wall. I do some much home repair myself so I ate up this education! The team worked fast. I was onsite the first and last day. On the first, they asked me a lot of questions about how much leveling I wanted (I opted to keep a slight slant or else my old doors would be jammed) and I could show them all the resources (power, water, fusebox) to help them do their job. They were really nice and had a good sense of humor even though the work was heavy and hard and the summer temps were nearing 100. Mayo had asked me to clear the space (remove plants, remove gutters, remove siding if I wanted to reuse them, protect the AC unit, so I did before they came. On the last day, I was dazzled by the new foundation walls. The floor in the house even felt better to walk on, much more solid. Julian's team offered to put the gutter and the siding back for me, making a vent hole to match the old one. This saved me so much time. Their work passed inspections. The entire process was very smooth. The crew was orderly and handled all items with care. We spoke in English and in Spanish and it was fine. I'm a native Californian so knowing some Spanish comes with the culture here. Up until this experience, I was nervous about foundation replacement but working with Julian Construction made me feel it is a manageable process, even a pleasant one. When I need further work on my foundation, I know who to call and I won't be stressed out about it anymore!

Later he left me a message that he was tied up, but would send Alvaro in his place. Alvaro was quick, professional and pointed out issues beyond the EBB. Enrique sent me an EBB estimate within a day, but I needed to know what the additional price would be for the other issues, so I made an appointment with him for mid-week, agreeing that if his city inspections held him up, he could call me to schedule for Saturday. I needed to meet him face to face, ask questions and go over the additional estimate that he was supposed to send. Remember, we are talking about thousands of dollars! He didn't call, failed to email the additional estimate, and didn't show. When I called him, he didn't return my call. I emailed to say that if I didn't hear back, I'd move on with another company. I got an email, apologizing, saying that he was tied up with another customer, and he understood if I hired someone else. Since he got back to me, I responded to his email, offering one more chance to meet in person, but he just blew me off. I pointed out that with the additional work, it seems that my job would be beneficial to his company, and that I don't understand how any business today cannot return a call, message or email, considering they carry a phone with them everywhere they go! I ran a mobile business for years and never let down a customer, and back then, we didn't even have cell phones! In the end, I guess I got off easily, because it is better to not have signed a contract and then been let down or lost money, but the truth is this company wasted not only their time, but also mine. Hopefully this review will alert others to think twice about hiring any business that doesn't really want to work for them, misses appointments or doesn't return calls quickly.

They completed the job in just two days and repaired two addional piers, and everything went smoothly. I do have a slight squeeze in one area of the floor in my raised home, and I'm currently waiting for them to come back and take a look at it. I know pier repair is not much complicated but their crew was professional and their price was reasonable. I would highly recommend these folks.

LICENSE SUSPENDED: Avoid This Contractor: Failed to Comply with CSLB Arbitration Award…read more I am updating this review to warn other homeowners to check the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) records before hiring LA Structural. As of March 2026, their license has been officially suspended due to their failure to comply with a legally binding arbitration award. On October 22, 2024, LA Structural requested and collected full payment for the second contract (permit acquisition for all work listed in the first contract) before any permit-related work began. Note: This is a violation. Despite full payment on November 26, 2024, none of the required permit finalizations occurred as promised, and the contractor stopped all permit-related work. Required tasks--such as coordinating inspections, correcting the soil compaction report rejected by LADBS, and managing final permit approvals--were not performed by LA Structural and were left entirely to me. I spent the following five months working directly with LADBS and city inspectors to complete these tasks. During those five months, I identified two defective areas of work. First, the soil compaction report was rejected due to LA Structural's circumvention of requirements. LA Structural hired a deputy instead of a third-party geotechnical engineer, bypassing the grading inspector's requirement and misleading me as the client after charging an additional fee for this engineer and report in November 2024. Consequently, in February 2025, Inspector Bonvouloir officially rejected the report. Later, Clark Inspections--the subcontractor hired by LA Structural--emailed me stating that LA Structural planned to use their in-house engineer to revise the soil compaction report, again attempting to bypass the requirement. I ultimately had to redo the soil compaction report through a licensed geotechnical engineer and resubmit it, after which it passed the city's review. The second defective work involved the drainage pipe and was documented in the CSLB investigation report. After 13 months of CSLB mediation, investigation, and site inspection, a mandatory arbitration hearing took place on January 22, 2026. The arbitrator ruled in my favor and ordered payment within 30 days. LA Structural failed to comply, resulting in their current license suspension. Notably, prior to the issuance of the stipulated arbitration award letter, the contractor repeatedly attempted to have me sign his own private settlement agreement--non-CSLB documents with terms that went beyond what had been agreed upon at the hearing. Don't sign it! I later learned that this is a common tactic contractors use to remove CSLB from the matter. Per CSLB instruction, I filed a claim with their bond company, Jet Insurance, to recover the awarded payment. Despite their written commitment on February 11, 2026, to issue payment if the contractor failed to meet the CSLB deadline, Jet Insurance instead extended the deadline to March 27, 2026, stating that "the contractor intends to make payment by this week." LA Structural failed to meet this extended deadline as well. On March 30, 2026, I received an email from Jet Insurance stating, "Attached is the Final Release and Assignment of Claim agreement, relating to the claim...In order to issue payment for this claim, Jet Insurance Company requires the attached agreement to be reviewed, physically signed and all pages returned." It has taken 16 months to recover my funds for their abandoned and defective work since their collection of full payment. Based on my understanding, when a bond company pays out a claim, the contractor's license remains suspended until specific legal and financial requirements are met for reinstatement.

Two men came out (in different cars), did a perimeter assessment, and used what seemed to be a leveler gun that they used in the sloping area, and quoted me 9K without even stepping a foot under the house. I found that odd since I would think you would need to assess the actual structure/foundation of my home, especially if you're recommending to hijack it up. They asked me about my home inspection and what they found. I forgot- I had used LA Structural for the home inspection when I purchased my home in Aug 2022. So I thanked them for their time, and contacted LA Structural. When I contacted LA Structural and requested a consultation, I mentioned that I had the report and that they wanted to see it. They said, Nope, we'll look at it with fresh eyes (Green flag #1). Brandon came out and asked me a few questions. I showed him the area, and he didn't hesitate and said he was going to look under the house to see what was going on. Brandon put on his suit and mask, then squeezed through the narrow crawl space under the house. When he came out, he gave me the rundown. He explained that there was nothing wrong with the structure/foundation of my home. However, if I wanted to replace the posts and piers under the house with concrete piers, I could do so, but it wasn't necessary. The sloping area of my home was caused by an old furnace that was still there, which was settling slightly. What I could do to fix that would be cosmetic. He gave me a cost range, which was similar to the original assessment LA Structural had quoted me a few years prior for the piers and posts, off the top of his head - so I knew, right then and there, that I was given a fair assessment. And if you're thinking, "Oh, they just looked up the report before they headed to your home," nope. Because they called me shortly before my appointment, asking if they could see the report, as they couldn't find it (I remembered I used a different email when I had the inspection done, sorry guys!). When I was asking a few questions, Brandon explained what was happening and what to look out for in the future. I forgot to mention, Brandon is an ENGINEER. So, his foundational knowledge is rooted in academic learning and practical experience. Without hesitation, I recommend LA Structural. They have been consistently fair in their assessments and didn't try to push or suggest something that I didn't need. Thank you, Brandon and LA Structural, you saved me thousands!

Matthew called nearly every week. However, once I signed on and paid a $1000 deposit, the project manager, Josh, was introduced. Three months after signing a contract with them, I had to fire them. Josh was very hard to communicate with, and I almost had to pester him just to touch base. On two or three occasions, I would send multiple emails, leave messages and call their office, but Josh would not return my calls or emails. On the two occasions we did speak, he was very busy going to LADBS and setting up meetings. It was never very clear what these meetings were for or what results came from them. Finally, he did have a meeting with us two months in, in which he informed us of several road blocks to the project. In a 1 hour internet search and call to LADBS, I found that most of what he was telling us was false information. The building inspector also volunteered to talk to them. I emailed that same day to inform him of my findings and got no response. A month later, I told them I was terminating our contract. Guess what? I was called 5 minutes later (the first time there had been any alacrity in response) with some song and dance about again going in to the building department and setting up a meeting and making and sending me a plan. No plans sent to me yet. I am officially done with them.
