Will and Alex are super friendly when they are trying to get your business, but they are not transparent about how they price their jobs and you should expect there to be cost overruns on your initial quote. You should also make sure they are doing the job as quoted, because they and their crew will cut corners if you aren't watching. For a plumbing re-pipe job, we requested that they do copper plumbing and it was included on the estimate. Mid-job, we saw that they were bringing Pex tubes and ask them why they were changing their materials while not reducing the cost of the job. We had to correct them to update the estimate and quote. A year later, we asked them to help with a free standing tub drain issue that we had and we were quoted $800, then $1405 for the job. Mid-day through the job, they updated their estimate to over $2,000 because their crew member had to go find a part and they were charging us by the hour despite the estimate saying it would take 1 working day to complete. It's really easy to pressure someone to pay more for a job once you have the guts of their bathroom open and this experience was not good. When we complained about their cost overruns and lack of transparency, their email response and demeanor on the phone was riddled with rude and aggressive language. For these reasons, I cannot recommend this company to anyone. read more

Highly satisfied with the work! I've been helping my parents address several household maintenance issues including a non functioning garbage disposal and rusted out kitchen drain line. I was able to swap out the disposal on my own, but as I started to reconnect the drain line I knew I needed professional help. The house is over 50 years old and the drainage pipes were literally disintegrating to touch. The job required a firm that could handle expanded requirements should they emerge. I used Yelp to solicit bids from a number of firms servicing my area and after reading through reviews, confirming status of contractor license and bond, I selected SoCal Sewer & Water for the job. Response time to an RFQ on Yelp was fast as was scheduling for an in person review and estimate. Their field supervisor Sigi arrived within the agreed upon time frame and was efficient and professional with the work. He went above and beyond expectations, including relaying out the drain design, swapping out a rusted basin catch, snaking of lines, adjusting my work on the disposal and installing a plug on the unused line. Clean up was a snap. Debated the need to go into wall and replace some of the old cast iron connectors, but time and budget dictated that as sometime for the future. My parents are happy and that's absolutely golden. A note for other homeowners soliciting contractor services. Engaging SoCal Sewer & Water, like other professional and licensed partners, is not going to be cheap. Their estimate came in higher than some of their peers, but within what I considered acceptable for the duration that I expected the work to require. If you want bottom dollar work, engage a handyman. However, if you want work that follows industry best practices, is up to code, consider giving SoCal Sewer & Water an opportunity. read more

Had the pleasure of working with Sigi & Luis on a mystery leak that tripled my water bill. They narrowed down the leak location to between the water heater closet and the laundry room. From there they very neatly cut small section of the wall out and installed shut off valves to the 4 cold water pipes that go into the ground, this detective work isolated one of the pipes as the leaker stopping the meter spin in its tracks! Short version: unclogged a line quicky on a sunday, found a big issue, sent a crew monday, all done! Long version: I still know nothing. I thought my pipes were new-ish. I thought the work done a few years ago was competent. Wrong on all accounts. When everything was backed up into the bathtub. I was hoping to find anyone on a sunday. After at least attempts with a dozen other plumbers, so cal responded with a complete description with price. Great! When the technician came we looked at the main sewer line first, the block was on a different line, but he showed me the video of all the tree roots that invaded my main sewer line. Something im learning, decades old city trees have very extensive root systems, and can get into any joint. We priced out several options, and agreed to come back monday. Next day a small crew came and quickly dug up a large section of front yard, and showed even more evidence of the extensive city tree root system. We had a long talk about all the options, and in the end i chose the permanent option. In the after noon, a second crew came t help with the stall since it is next the the city line, and a third crew came to line the pipe with a substance where the tree roots cannot invade the sewer line in the future. They completed all work and had everything back to normal by 6pm. A few other things noted: only half the pipes were updated from the previos owner, the other half is very old piping. The work done a few years ago was not secured, insulated, or protected, so the pipes will weaken and will need to be re done. Every step of the way everything was explained in great detail with photo and video evidence. I am calling them back to work on the pipes and in a few years to redo the work was wasnt done well. What a terrible, terrible experience with this company. Let me save you time, expense and trouble -- HIRE SOMEONE ELSE. Hire ANYONE else. We had a leak in our kitchen roof on a Sunday evening (of course!) and I called Will at SoCal Sewer Construction. Very pleasant guy. Showed up two hours later, right when he said he would. He was unable to locate the cause of the leak and proceeded to spend the next three hours putting six holes in the drywall in my ceiling trying to source the problem without luck. It wasn't until my wife clued him in to the bathtub handset that the problem was solved with a fifty-cent washer. Obviously a bummer, and perhaps a more thoughtful and considered plumbing approach would've kept us from having to spend many hundreds more dollars to repair Will's "work" -- which cost us a handsome $390, in case anyone was curious how much you need to pay someone to cut holes in your ceiling and then leave. We invited Will back to replace two kitchen faucets we have that were past their use. He cancelled our first appointment at the last minute. Then tried to send someone else in his stead. And when he finally arrived to do the work, after it was complete he DOUBLED the quoted price, claiming that the $175 labor price was PER faucet -- which is not what he said to me on the day I asked him about it. He kindly offered to knock $50 off of the total price. Which I accepted begrudgingly. But wait! There's more! And this is where the experience goes even further south than I thought possible. Will leaves and less than an hour later one of the faucets he installed starts making a hideous high-pitched whining sound whenever it's turned on. I take a video, send it to Will and then call him. He gives me a few troubleshooting tips -- none work. Then he says he's happy to come back and maybe turn down the water pressure for the entire house in attempt to fix the issue, but it'll cost me an ADDITIONAL $125 for a "service call". I'm not kidding. He installed the faucet and clearly didn't check it properly, then left and told me it would cost me $125 MORE for him to return. This is on top of everything else! I guess it's partly my fault for trusting someone who told me off the bat that his company doesn't use/trust Yelp because you have to "pay them for reviews" -- and then hiring to come back AFTER he damaged our kitchen ceiling without finding the source of the trouble (until my wife did). When I expressed my frustration to Will, he wrote me back: I'm sorry you feel that way. And it was only after I informed him that I was planning to share this experience on Yelp and Google that he offered to refund half the faucet installation fee. Of course, for me, it wasn't about the money anymore. I just wanted to make sure to share this experience with other folks out there with limited plumbing knowledge so they don't put their trust in Will or his company, So Cal Sewer Construction. A Very Happy Story: One of the toilets got stopped up and the plumbing guy couldn't fix it even with long snake. So he brings out the video equipment and scopes it. Under driveway is a bad break. Estimate? 10K - 12K for the whole job. So I get a second opinion. He just goes off the scope from first guy and quotes 8K- 10K. Then we were referred to SoCal Sewage Construction. Will and another guy come out, scope it and show me the exact spot where two foot break is and roots coming through badly. They also found another break first guy didn't. Showed me exactly where and how deep on driveway. Showed me the section they would dig up, how long, and gave me an exact quote - $5,500. And folks, that's exactly what it was. It took only two days. The work is PERFECT. Completely professional, clean, fast, with photos of everything they did and all the breaks. All toilets now have twice the pull due to their work. I absolutely could not give them a higher rating and I can promise you, they will be our plumbers from this day forth.
