Definitely one of my top spots in Kelowna. The food is always so tasty. I had the carpaccio, risotto balls and hot wings and nothing disappointed. They should definitely change their motto to: "If you're not white, you're not right." When my friends and I entered the restaurant we were told that the wait time would be around an hour and 45 minutes. One of the staff members went inside to get the wait list so we could put a name down, which I'm pretty sure was done as a formality and nothing more. Upon returning, he not only had the audacity to ignore us, but had a table miraculously open up for a new group of Caucasian girls right behind us (whom did not even have a reservation booked.) All in all, if there's anything this place is good at, it might as well be their sheer neglect and inherent racism. If you have any respect for yourself and for your non-Caucasian friends I would think twice before stepping into an establishment like this. Diversity should be appreciated and not shat on like this. Nobody should be forced to change themselves physically and mentally to fit the demographic that they're targeting. It's just not worth it. read more

Overall I was extremely disappointed with the food. I do appreciate the service because after complaining about the micro portion of fish that was served to me with my fish tacos they brought me a couple more pieces, however they were also extremely small which was disappointing. I find it very strange that the pieces of fish they serve are so small and they do not even put multiple pieces to fill the taco which alerted me to the size in the first place. Very poor presentation. In addition to the horrible fish tacos they had extremely dry chicken wings and ribs and over dressed Caesar salad. If you want a tasty meal, just avoid a headache and go somewhere else. read more

A pretty delightful find not far from the waterfront where we have been parasailing. Upscale pubfood that takes some risks which seem to work out just lovely. Sundays seems to be a great day for deals. 2 for 1 appetizers and all the drink specials from the week are 2 for 1. 2 for 1 appetizers allowed us to try the brushetta which we wouldn't have gotten but it was probably my favorite dish. I guess that's why famous was right in the name. Now, I'm not sure I would have called it brushetta myself as it's a bit deconstructed (and them reconstructed?) and there is a dance of tangy and sweet sauces with a balsamic reduction - so really an escape from the strong tomato/garlic profile I would expect from the word bruschetta. Still great whatever the name though. We also tried whipped goat cheese and then the bacon wrapped prawns. All VERY good. Although appetizers left me a little full, I still made it through my stuffed pepper which was great. Not everyone can do quinoa dish well they do. Flavors were strong and delicious and came with a bit of variety from the sauces on the side, the bed of rice and the filling in the pepper so there was a bit of an adventure eating around the plate which was a bit interesting. Overall it was a great meal, I'm sure it gets loud and is a bit more happening some nights but it was very quiet at about 6 on a Sunday. read more

Great Place ! had fun every time I visited, great music and people plus Bar tenders bloody amazing

We met with friends in Kelowna for a nice get away and visit. Social 242 had received good write ups on a website so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant/lounge is dimly lit and there were booths arranged around a large bar. The music was very loud and our waitress - a lovely girl named Emily, tried her best to keep the level to a reasonable level. She said that she was unable to get the sound level down because she was met with a great deal of resistance to the idea. She then said that she would move us to the back room where it was quieter. It wasn't. We asked if the speakers could be turned off in the back room. They couldn't. It was so loud. It was like being in the car and having a young teenager drive up beside you with their speakers going full blast and their whole car shaking. Music should generally be background noise. It should not be so loud that you cannot talk to the person across the table from you without shouting. We are the wrong demographic for this restaurant/lounge. I think the owner/manager is only interested in young students. 2 of us left with very bad headaches because of the incessant noise. The ambiance and noise factor is so off putting and it is unfortunate. The service we received from Emily was some of the best that I've received. She went out of her way to try to make things bearable for us. The food was pretty decent. We all ordered off the pre-set winter menu. 2 of us ordered off the $30.00 menu and 2 of us ordered off the $40.00 menu. The food was generally very good but I have to agree with many others that the prime rib was not good quality. Even with a steak knife it was difficult cutting through some of the gristle. The service out of the kitchen was very slow. It was 2 1/2 hours from start to finish for our meal. 2 1/2 hours of having extremely loud music pounding in your ear. Not my idea of an enjoyable evening. I will never set foot in this restaurant again. If you are not a young student with very good eardrums this is not the restaurant for you. We asked at least 4 times for the music to be turned down and we were ignored. read more

I have been to this establishment before and it was great, girlfriends and I decided to go late night and the bouncer was an absolute a**hole and gaslit me and my friends. Wouldn't let us in, but let a group behind us in first. This guy was far too high on his horse and turning away business. The food was pretty decent and the service was attentive and friendly. However, the prices were high and I was disappointed with their Groupon. I paid $55 for 2 Three Course meals. What we didn't find out until we arrived is that you can only use it towards the limited menu, which is typically $30 pp. A savings of $5 did not feel outstanding and we found better selection on the regular menu. With all of the great restaurants in Kelowna, I'd wish we had left our options open. read more

Where do I start, this place is a hot mess. My boyfriend and I were in town from Vancouver visiting some friends, went for dinner (at another place) and we ended up here for drinks afterward at around 9pm. We joined some of their friends who were already at a table, and I sat down and my boyfriend went up to the bar to get us drinks. The DJ played some very dated late 90's/early 2000's house, which was hilarious to us since we haven't heard anything like that in a while. It was St. Patrick's Day, so the place was pretty busy, but he found a spot at the bar to stand and order. There were three bartenders, and they completely ignored him. My female friend and her friend went up shortly after, and were served. My boyfriend was beside her, and still no service. After at least 5 min of being totally ignored, I went up to try to get us drinks. Finally one of them took my order (still ignoring boyfriend), and I ordered a boulevardier cocktail and a whiskey sour from their drink menu. The bartender looked at me, and I quote, said "I hate people". And then he walked away to other side of the bar to very lazily make our drinks. He then rubbed my orange peel all over the rim with his dirty fingers, after handling the customer before me's cash. Then I asked him "did you say you hate people?". Then he say's "ya, I just want to make vodka sodas". LOL seriously? Maybe you should get a new job. I then informed him that my cocktail had 3 ingredients total, I mean it's 1 more ingredient than a vodka soda. Um ok. So we go back to our table, finally. The whiskey sour blows, big time. My drink is fine, but again, 3 ingredients, shake shake shake pour. We ordered our next round from the waitress, and stuck to rye and coke from there since you know, vodka soda. Went here for a corporate party. Service dealt with the high volume all right. Decor mildly interesting but I wasn't able to grasp their vibe...almost as if the concept is either trying too hard or just not quite complete. By that same token, the menu suffered from a similar problem I'll call Goat Cheese Syndrome. So, essentially that means a good number of their items involved shopworn cliches like goat cheese added to everything, lots of seafood dishes, and sucking you in to a good standby appetizer like, say, spring rolls and adding something stupid to it in an attempt to appear high brow. On a superficial level I kind of get it, but the skill in the kitchen and the overall vibe don't support the image they're going for. You can't just toss goat cheese and peach chutney at otherwise good dishes without a certain finesse...the foods they did this to didn't need messing with and simply cooking them properly would be a great achievement for any restaurant. That all sounds harsh but I'd definitely go again to check it out further. I've always been annoyed by the name and had written it off as more pretentious nightclub bs. But that's not what I found, and given the competition in the area, it's pretty chill and not trashy. My friends and I have come to Social 242 a few times already for dinner and drinks, and it has been rather consistent at every visit! The service is good, friendly, and attentive. For what comes off as a supper club, the food is great! I've particularly enjoyed the prime rib (make sure you've got a big appetite for this one!), gnocchi, and fettuccini carbonara. My partner and I were at a wine tasting in the Okanagan and were told that this place is a well kept dining secret in Kelowna. We decided to try it for dinner tonight. On the exterior it looks more like a nightclub than an upscale restaurant but upon entering it has a great feel. The wine displays are gorgeous and the ambiance is a nice mix between casual and classy. There is a lounge on one side and dining room on the other. We sat in a comfy booth in the lounge. The server was very attentive and helped guide us around their new menu. In fact all of the staff were very friendly. One of the owners even came by our table to check on our meal. We tried the tandoori calamari and spring rolls for our appetizers. Both were delicious. The calamari was cooked perfectly. Loved the Indian spices - not overwhelming but well balanced. The spring rolls were like none I have had before. They are made fresh in house apparently -- and they taste like it. They had a Mexican style twist to them unlike the typical Asian style ones you see everywhere else (the pre bought frozen kinds). I highly recommend the spring rolls appetizer. For the main course I had the Cajun flat iron steak with a chimichurri sauce and my partner had the Okanagan Chicken (dijon and goat cheese cream sauce). We ate at Local in Summerland the night before and can honestly say that this food was on par, if not marginally better. I have never had a flat iron steak that tender. I asked to speak with the chef, and the young man Jordan Fraser came by the table. He told me he used a special marinade that he learned about while cooking in South America. You have to try this steak. The chicken was exceptional as well and was more of a French inspired dish. This food is not overly complicated but it's locally sourced and the recipes are well thought out. Rich in flavour but still light. And the creme brulee for dessert was to die for. Perfect texture. Best I have had in years. I wish Vancouver had more restaurants like this one. If you are in Kelowna, try this place that seems to fly under the culinary radar. Visited during the Kelowna Wine and Dine event and ate from the $25 fixed menu. The food was fantastic, but we waited close to an hour between courses and received almost no attention from the servers. Forty-five minutes in, the host came by to ask how the meal was, but we hadn't been served anything yet! Finally, we waited 20 minutes for the dessert course, which was a cup of coffee with Bailey's in it and a cold crème brûlée that had obviously been made hours prior. Absolute horrid meal. Both my wife and I had the prime rib special. Meat was tough, the demi-glacé was super salty, the mash potatoes tasted like they had no milk or butter added. Neither of us ate a quarter of the meal. The manager came over and asked us about it which we were polite but honest and said he was going to talk to the chef but never made any adjustment to our bill. In fairness both the prawns and the mushroom appetizers were good and the desserts were good. Overall this was by far the worst meal we had on our Canadian trip in either Kelowna or Vancouver including the airports and the plane. Came here with a large party as earls and cactus club were already booked up. We were not very impressed with our drinks and were quite surprised by the high prices. I ordered the chicken strips as I had not been feeling very well and assumed they'd be easy to eat. The chicken strips didn't actually come with fries which was surprising to me and those costed extra. The chicken tenders came with about 5 pieces which was more then what I could eat so I then understood why it was higher in price but also wished there was a smaller size for cheaper as not everyone can eat so much and not everyone can take them to go as I was off to the club for a friends birthday. The chicken strips themselves were fine as I feel like it's hard to go wrong with them. On top of this the waiter forgot to mention that our tips were already made automatically so I ended up tipping 10 dollars in total making it a 46 dollar meal for chicken tenders with fries and one drink that was on happy hour. Came here on the weekend for a birthday dinner. I ordered my son a chicken nuggets on kids meal. It is a big portion for kids, however the chicken are so dry/fried that my son didn't even finish one piece. Fries was very dry as well for some reason. Had a large booking for ~60 people here as part of a conference on a Saturday night. The service and communication from the management in the lead-up was excellent and the pricing extremely fair. On the night of the event, all the staff were great and everyone enjoyed the food. Would not hesitate to recommend this place for a similar type event! Ate here on two different locations and the food has been excellent on both occasions. I've always ordered off of the pick an appetizer, main course and dessert for $40. I've had the tuna on both occasions and it has been spectacular each time. Last night I had the bacon wrapped prawns and they were also very good. The service on both nights has been great as well. Stopped in for a glass of wine while in town for a food show. Decent priced cocktails - the stingray was fruity but the lime toned it down to make a very refreshing drink. We weren't going to do food but once we left my other half kept thinking about the lamb and sirloin combo. So we went back. Terence, the friendly tattooed bartender, tended to us in a very roomy orange coloured booth. I had scallops and Italian ham with a white wine sauce - almost perfect. I would have toned down the salt a touch. My partner had an unusual combination of sirloin on bottom with lamb shank off the bone. Delicious au jus. Perfectly cooked veggies. Creamy mashed potatoes. No bread offered but I am off carbs. Understand this place is a night spot and the kitchen is open late. I would check it out again. read more

Purchased a Groupon certificate thinking we were getting a deal and once we got there were told that "oh no, this is offered on our menus all the time, all you did was prepay for your meal!" They said value of the meal for 2 was $90+ and frankly I would be VERY ticked had we paid that for the average food served (the $54 Groupon was even a stretch) The vegetables were raw, so much so that when poking a carrot with my fork it shot across the floor! Then plate of food was barely warm however the potatoes were very hot so obviously most of me meal was sitting for a long time before the spuds got there. They could have used that extra time to at least cook the veggies lol. Husbands "seafood" fettuccini consisted of cheap Smoked salmon 2 muscles and 2 small prawns lol. The music was horrible and LOUD but perhaps that is "the thing" in a social house. The service was annoying and waited and waited for the bill and finally got up to leave before anyone offered to get us our bill. We will NEVER return and the Groupon thing... Complete scam. Yikes! SOOOOOO BAD! The food was meh and the manager, Dan was the worst manager I have ever met. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 12 years and have never witnessed such poor management. Dan was sent to our table because there were 12 empty mussel shells in my mussels.He was defensive to begin with. When i explained to him that the perception is, I am not getting a full order of what I ordered. He didn't seem to see the problem and asked me what I expected him to do when he came to the table.. I did not ask for him to come to the table and i didn't expect anything to be done. We asked for the bill at which point he came back to the table to fight with me again and wouldn't leave when we asked him too. When we were leaving he walked us out (polite way of saying he fought with us as we walked out) and told us he was the owner. If you do go there do not complain about the food... think the movie "Waiting" and do not comment on his managing skills. He didn't like that. I should mention our server was really nice. We went here on a Saturday evening based on a groupon offer, and the good ratings we saw here on yelp. We were very impressed with the ambiance. We sat at a table near the bar area. DJ playing EDM music at a reasonable level. Had the $5 stingray drink special, very good. I ordered the tandoori calamari based on the suggestions on here, and I would also recommend. Probably the best calamari I've had, not rubbery, and just enough flavor. My wife had the Caesar to start, it came with bacon... so I had to try it as well, again, very good. Main coarse? Lobster tail dinner for her and curried chicken rice bowl for myself. Unfortunately due to a miscommunication they came out a little on the cold side. It happens. As far as flavor goes, wow. Awesome! The chef definitely knows what he is doing back there. We split the cheesecake for desert that had just the right hint of cinnamon... Soo good. One of the owners was aware of our cold meals and comped a couple of our drinks as well. This place is going to be a reg for us. Had a lovely dinner with family at Social 242. The ribs are outstanding and the fresh vegetables were perfectly cooked - al dente. Everyone had something different from the menu and no one was disappointed. Our service was 10 out of 10 and our meal was very reasonably priced (even with wine). The only sad thing about Social 242 is that it is in Kelowna and we live in Calgary -- but we're here for a week which will give us another meal there and we will definitely visit this restaurant again on our next trip. My wife and I have been to the restaurant a number of times and although it wasn't as consistent as we'd like we had some good meals. We saw a Groupon deal that looked good so we decided to try it again. We were given a special Groupon menu upon presenting our coupon and discovered we were virtually paying full price. It certainly wasn't what we had experienced there in the past and we pointed this out to a person who said he was the owner. He was condescending and unprofessional. He guaranteed to us that we would get our money back from Groupon, which we now know is easier said than done. In some respects the experience was surreal. We went here because of a Groupon. We had the wings to start. My husband has hot and I had the hot teriyaki. The wings were amazing! The service however was extremely slow! Eventually we got our first course which was a Caesar salad and bruschetta. Another great round! After that, it took 45 minutes for our food to come. My husband ordered the Cajun BBQ steak and I ordered the okanagan chicken. His steak was served as "pellets" and had no flavour. My chicken was covered in some sort of sauce that originated from powder. The texture was grainy. It was horrible. We then got desert as our third course. We got the chocolate mouse which again was grainy. Our waitress was kind but was so busy tending to other tables that we ended up waiting wayyy too long for each course. Won't be going back. read more
