I went in with my daughter for her yearly review and the young male worker was extremely nice and helpful. I believe his name was Mr. Bowen but I could be mistaken as we missed the appointment she had scheduled the day before due to medical reasons and received a call from Mr. Bowen to reschedule. We went in the following day and were seen within 30 minutes. The lady worker who at the window was also pleasant. In regards to the security guards they deal with a lot of people who are confused and combative. I have been in at least 4 times in 2018 and have been greeted by security and they have checked my purse which makes me feel safe. read more

I went in the afternoon and had a long-ish wait (about an hour and 15 minutes) from check-in. The staff member who assisted me was great though - I had a super complicated issue that took a bit of explaining, but she listened and was able to assist me with it. To get the most out of your visit, do as much research ahead of time on your issue as you can - a lot of things can be done online or by calling the national SSA number (which does have an option to call you back so you don't have to actually wait on hold). Pretty much all forms you need are available online, so coming with those filled out and ready to go is helpful too. Always bring identification and don't bring anything that you wouldn't take to the airport. I didn't catch the actual parking rates, but my parking fee was $6 for ~1.5 hours. read more

Absolutely awful. I spoke to the office on the phone and they told me all I had to bring in was my baby's birth record and my ID to get her a replacement SS card. I waited for an hour WITH an appointment and she said my birth record wasn't enough and she needed more proof. I told her about the conversation I had on the phone and couldn't have been more jaded and cold. This was hell with a tiny baby. Bring in every single piece of ID and proof for anything there!!! read more

I have been here twice. Each time I had a positive experience. Parking is easy, but there is a fee. The office has a dedicated elevator to it. Although it was crowded, I was told this was nothing compared to the previous day. I was about 30 mins after they opened. I was there to change my last name and after checking in and getting my number, I was called about 10 minutes later. Other tasks may have had a longer wait, but I was in and out of there within 15-20 minutes. Overall a good experience considering I expected to have to wait a long time. read more

This place sucks the employees that work there are useless. After receiving my marriage license I went in to change my last name. The employee that assisted me told me the system could not hyphen my last name even though that's how my marriage license had it. He didn't bother to even try he made it seem as if it was impossible. This visit resulted in me missing two days of work because of this unprofessional and lack of knowledge. I went to the Long Beach location and had no issues. DO NOT come to this office without an appointment. Wait times can be 3 hours plus. It's a typical government office filled with screaming kids, people that don't speak English and people who are medically in bad shape. I tried to take care of my business online and on phone, but the people who work there smile and stab you in the back at the same time. Beware. Just for the uninitiated, you should come down to the office just to see what single payer healthcare from the govt. would look like. read more

Rude...rude...rude...! I was told different things by two different employees there on different occasions within 3 weeks. I will be going to another office now ladies are bitter don't remember names but the one of them had her arms with tattoos which I think should be covered up more and the other older heavy set lady with short boy haircut glasses it depends who helps you apparently I've been here before and the last 2 people were great! not as painful as the dmv... but that doesn't say much about the social security admin. the staff here sits on a high horse thinking they're doing you a favor taking care of your social security questions and needs. and the bulldog of a security guard they hired to stand there barking at people is really just unacceptable. there was a young man accompanying his grandma to the social security office. arriving prior to the stated 9 am open time he approached the security guard and asked if his grandma can enter early just to sit because she has bad knees. the security guard thought he had an attitude and denied him to enter the office with his grandma. his poor grandma ended up having to leave the office because she didn't know how to get things done. looks like everyone at the office had power trip for breakfast. read more

Negatives: Pay for parking. I already pay taxes as a US Citizen and also have to pay for parking to get my SS card updated with my married name. Long wait, crying loud kids, it smells and the seats are dirty. if your kid cries, take it outside. I checked in at 1:06 pm on a Monday and was done by 1:59. Not too bad. Positives: Surprisingly, not as crowded as I thought. Easy check in - enter the doors, go to the left and there are two kiosks to check in. You'll get a number and wait to be called. Today, there were five windows opened (total of 9). The security guard, blondish brown hair, was fine. I saw next to her and observed her interactions with everyone and she was friendly and helpful. I did not witness one negative response from her so I'm not sure why the negative comments. read more

I was nervous about going because I assumed it would be a long line and difficult parking...but I was wrong! It only took about 20 minutes from the moment I signed in to the moment I left. The gentleman that helped me was very nice and helpful. The parking lot is right next to the building and it's a nice building which makes up for the fact that they don't validate. read more

I came to get a replacement Social Security card. It was such a long line. Tip: get here at least half an hour early (8:15-8:30AM). They open at 9AM. I have to say the staff is awesome! There is great communication to the people inside the office and even outside while waiting in line. Once, inside, they walk you through the computerized kiosk system. Practically doing it for you and finally giving you your assigned number. I was attended within 15 minutes after receiving my number. The person attending me was professional and courteous. read more

The Mexican worker working there at the window is horrible. We were called at the window after waiting for 2 hours, and he says he does not have time to process anything. He photocopied everything and said he will review it and call the next day (Wednesday) at 2:00 pm sharp. The SSI office is closes at 12 on Wednesday. Of course he did not call the next day or any other day. Its been 10 days and we haven't heard from him. Zero credibility. This worker should be fired. read more

I was very sick with nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy. But, they sent me a letter to come in at 9am. I brought the letter and a friend took me. The social service employee spoke little or no English. She was nasty and rude. Said I did not have an appointment and to come back in Feb. 2019 with my tax returns. She had dirty nails and could not read or understand the letter. So I called social security. The nice man explained everything and so nothing this woman said made any sense. Nasty, rude employees with no idea how to read. Avoid this place and just call instead. It works much better. read more

Unfortunately I had to return because I needed additional documents. My second visit was even better! Awful experience. This office has SUCH a long wait. I came in on a Monday afternoon, every chair was taken in the waiting area and two lines were formed outside of the door. I asked the security guard (C. Daws) if there was a better time to come back. She was totally rude and looked truly bothered that I dared to speak to her while she was "working" aka standing around doing nothing. She (C. Daws) told me there was no better time and that I just needed to wait. I asked her if I should come back the next morning and what time they opened. She said 8:45 but that it wouldn't be any better. I came back the next day (early) and waited for two hours. There was no line out the door and about 3/4ths of the seats were taken. By the time I left, there were another two lines formed outside the door. Do yourself a favor and go to any other office! (I'd say make an appointment but there was an hour and a half wait to call in and make one, when I called the week before). Terrible, just terrible. Also, the same security guard (C.Daws) threatened to take away everyone's cellphone in the waiting area because someone's phone rang ( except the children's phones. She said she would never dream of taking a cellphone away from a child. Guess she thought she was being cute). As if one hundred plus people in this day and age are going to sit and wait for two hours without their cellphones. C. Daws stood around the entire time with a poor attitude and did not help one person with anything. read more

The traditional "American Lady" blonde hair, blue eyes and pail skin has demonstrated to me that due to your race or ethnicity you will be treated differently regardless if you are a citizen or not. This security guard (C. Daws) clearly shows the hatred she has for her job with your unwelcoming approach. In my observation she's denied help to those who are new to the system with language barriers and or physical disabilities, yet she becomes attentive to next pair of blonde hair with blue eyes who walks in the door. I have been coming to this location for a few years now assisting my aunt with translation and it's no surprise to see the same security guard (C. Daws) degrading any foreigner. I may be one of the few bringing this concerning situation in birds eye view. I have seen the worst things happen in this office. It feels like I have been thrown in a time capsule with both Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King in there times of fear and injustice. This lady is in the wrong era!! ...I'm glad more people are coming forward with this horrible harassment. read more

Mr. Franco is the rudest person ever!!! You would think he want's to help people. It seems to me he hates his job and people. He feels he knows what he's talking about without even listening to the reason you called. When you try to explain he hangs up on you. So i called back and he hung up on me again. I really want to make a complaint to the office itself. I can't seem to get past Mr. Franco. Someone like that shouldn't be working with people. Especially people with disabilities. This is a terrible place. It's like a scary alternate universe where you disappear for hours and all you want to do is get back to the world you know. It is crowded and the wait is long. Stuff happens here that isn't normal. There was someone here who sounded like he had tb. Someone else was very upset about this and wanted to get moved up in line bc she just had a transplant and thot she would catch it. There was a crazy-apparent lady who for some reason left her giant bag of meds in the hall, was reprimanded, and then started to do it again but was stopped by the security guard lady, who was not happy about it. The weirdest people come together here in this room. All the ppl you never wanna hang out with? Well they all converged and they're here waiting for you. The security guard lady seems bitter and gave an angry stare (the withering hate kind that ppl might give to someone who cut them off on the freeway) to some guy who obviously spoke not-great English and called her lady.
